My husband and I always made a point of stopping at Apple Granny's whenever we are in the Lewiston area and have always been satisfied. We made a reservation for 4 PM during the recent Peach Festival. I ordered the chalkboard special "Crab & Cheddar Stuffed Halibut", which sounded good. When the entree came the halibut was on top of the "stuffing" and was a bit dry in spots. The stuffing did not taste too much like crab and upon closer inspection it appeared to be the fake crabmeat available in most grocery stores. I asked the middle aged hostess if it was real crab meat or the fake stuff & she replied she would have to ask the chef. When she did not return after 10 minutes we had to leave. So I am dubbing this entree "Crab or No Crab?" and would not ever order it again. Truthfulness is always in order if you expect a customer to return. read more

Decent food, slow service. I have been to Apple Grannys many times as it is a favorite wing spot for my parents. Along with wings, this place has an extensive menu of classic American diner fare. My father loves the French onion soup also. The service is painfully slow at times, once waiting over 35 minutes for wings at lunchtime with only 2 other tables occupied. My co-workers and I have enjoyed a quick lunch here sooo many times and Apple Granny's is quite consistent with food and service. The "Granny Melt" is pretty much the best thing on the menu. I would suggest rye bread with turkey and a side salad. It is a grilled cheese with meat, bacon, tomato and your choice of bread. So delicious. I loved this cozy little spot right in the middle of Center Street in Lewiston. Stopped here on a Sunday for lunch with my family and I'm glad I decided to ignore the negative yelp reviews because we loved it! Our server was great, and when she had her hands tied the hostess jumped right in to help her out. Our drinks were always full and service was quick. They have a cute little bar to the left when you walk in and they also have a dining area to the right. It was a warm afternoon so I was glad they had the ac on at a comfortable setting. I had the french onion soup which was very flavorful and overflowing with cheese just the way I like it! Lol For my meal I ordered Granny's mac & cheese which was really thick and creamy with a unique taste. It was really good! It came with fries and was very filling so I couldn't finish of course. You must ask for bread and butter otherwise they will not bring it. With that being said, I absolutely love this place- it has some quirks, but it is great for a night out for dinner and drinks. I ordered the Reuben with coleslaw and the sandwich was perfect! The coleslaw tasted like it was stored in the wrong container in the refrigerator because it carried a fridge odor and taste in its creamy dressing. I did not eat it. Mom had the turkey club which was very tasty. Waitress said turkey was roasted and sliced in house- not imported cold cuts- Mom was happy with that. I had a taste and man, I love real pan-fried bacon- there's no better way to prepare it! I ordered the chicken caesar salad and we got a side of fries with gravy. The salad was pretty standard, but tasty. The fries with gravy were the hit of the show. Nothing fancy at all, but the fries were crispy, and the gravy was dark, thick, and beefy... Hmm I was visiting Lewiston with my mom for a few days and this seemed like the place to be. My mom was even told by a friend that they love Apple Granny and travel across the border just for this place. We came for dinner and were seated right away. The server was lovely and friendly and the service was speedy. The food on the other hand? Umm, honestly just not really all that good. The wings are supposed to be the "best in western New York" or something so that's what we got. 10 mild and 10 honey garlic. They both had little to no taste. Like, not even salt. It was weird. There was hardly any sauce on the mild and we certain didn't taste it. The honey garlic was the same, it was there, I could see it, but lacking any and all flavour and taste. They were done nice and crispy, that's about all I can say. We also got the potato skins; meh, baked potatoes with melted cheese and sour cream. Our experience here was great!!!! We went on Friday for Granny's Famous Fish Fry. Being from Colorado, there are not many places for good fresh haddock. The huge piece of fish was crispy and tender. Didn't think I would eat the whole thing, but once you start you just can't stop. They have a number of sides you can choose from and I got the mac & cheese. It was quite good. I did order a side salad, and it was very good. So my husband ordered a chocolate butterfinger pie. I had a bite and it was so good that I ordered one. My brother-in-law offered me a taste of his carrot cake while I was waiting for my pie. WOW!!!! it was soooo good. If I would have tired that 1st before the pie, I would have ordered it. The pie was good but the cake was "money." Our waitress actually makes the cake. She said she has been making it for years. Service was great. read more

We stopped by for a late lunch after visiting Fort Niagara because they offered gluten free bread. I ordered a roast beef sandwich on gluten free bread. I guess I was expecting some-sort of deli style roast beef, it wasn't what I got at all. It was bland, grey, sliced pot roast served cold on gluten free bread. I took one bite and spit it out. I forced myself to eat some of the meat after putting a lot of pepper on it because I was grumpy and hungry and had to eat something. The burgers are some of the best in the area and the sirloin filet is the best 12.95 steak you will ever have. Keep in mind, the cooks will make you steak exactly how you order it. If you order rare expect it to be still mooing. They're not like Applebee's where rare is medium and well is charcoal. My wife and I went to apple Granny's because we had a gift certificate and decided to just sit at the bar and grab something. We didn't know what to expect. We were both so happy with the place. First of all, it was a cold, snowy night but the place was so nice and cozy inside. We love French Onion soup and Shannon, the bartender, recommended it so we tried it. Great call Shannon! It was some of the best I've had. I then had the crab and cheddar stuffed haddock and my wife had a tuna melt. I can say the Haddock was awesome and my wife liked the tuna melt, as far as tuna melts go. Best part, the value for what you get. The portions were generous and cost very reasonable. We have more left on the gift card (which we didn't expect) so we'll be back. But either way, Apple Granny's is going to become a regular stop when I'm in Lewiston. I highly recommend it. read more

We found this spot while walking and decided to try it because it looked relatively busy. The first and biggest mistake was that I didn't look on yelp to see the reviews. This is something I do before I go to any restaurant that I eat at unless it's highly recommended by a friend of family member. To start we ordered a couple waters and a Cosmopolitan, which is my mother's favorite. She said that the drink was great and ended up ordering a second! The best thing about cocktails here is the price. VERY cheap yummy drinks! We ordered the shrimp cocktail which came out with small shrimp NOT jumbo and in a to go container for the dipping sauce with the lid on it. Mind you we were dining in. VERY strange to see "to go" containers while dining in. I ordered a cup of the French onion soup and it was good but nothing that I would order again. My mother ordered the crab salad which came with artificial crab and very few pieces with large chunks of iceberg lettuce that were not left in bite-size pieces. She had to ask for a knife so she could cut her salad up herself. Her dressing again came in "TO GO" container with the lids on! Am I missing something??? We are dining in! For my entrée I ordered the shrimp and scallop scampi over angel hair pasta. It came in garlic butter sauce which was completely tasteless. The only thing in this dish that had any flavor at all was the shrimp, which tasted like cooked shrimp. The scallops were flavorless. I couldn't believe how poorly this dish was put together so I asked my mom to try it as well and she said the same thing. Poor mom!!! Haha!!! Long story short we will not be back nor will we recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to eat in this area. Was in the Western New York area for the weekend, wanted a fish fry and this place was recommended. It was a Friday evening so I expected a fresh hot cod filet cooked to perfection. What we received was oily lukewarm filets and mostly cold fries. Very disappointed but we ate it anyways, did not complain then. When I went to pay the check, the credit card system was not working. So our server asked if we wanted to pay with cash. I did and just as we were leaving I received notice on my phone that the charge went through. I spoke to the co-owner Mike B. and he said that if the charge did not back out by Monday, to give him a call. It didn't and I called him the next week and the saga continues. He said he would take care of it that week. Another week went by and still no reverse. I called again and this time he said he would send me a check, gave him my address and after 2+ weeks no check. I am now disputing the credit charge and providing this review. All Mike had to do was honor his commitment to the credit refund. As usual because I am not a local they would not complain, he is wrong, it is not the money, but, his lack of honesty. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Nice, comfortable atmosphere that is dated but fits the theme of what comes to mind when you think of a home style diner atmosphere. Our waitress approached with menus and was very friendly and attentive the whole time. I ordered the fish fry and garden salad and my wife ordered the baked haddock with fries and salad. The salads were decent with a vinaigrette dressing (a bit too creamy for my taste). The fish fry was tasty but not amazing. It was beer battered and crispy but just lacked the seasoning and flavor that I've had from other beer battered recipes. The fries were not homemade which surprised me. But the fish tasted fresh and did not taste or smell "fishy". My wife's baked fish was simple and baked with butter and garlic. We were satisfied with the service and food and the price was fair a restaurant in the middle of Lewiston. We would return here as they have many other items I'd like to try - stuffed mushrooms and prime rib sounded really good. Known for its fresh haddock Friday fish frys. It has an excellent fish fry! The baked fish is usually good, although I've gotten it on occasion and it was watery. I'm not a real fan of this place otherwise, but it's ALWAYS busy around dinner. Not trying to be insulting, but the older folks love this place, and flock to it by dinnertime! It couldn't have been a better spot for a mom with her three kids. The kids menu has a great variety with just right portions. My 12yo and I split soup and a Granny Melt. It was pretty crowded for a Wednesday afternoon. My aunt took my brother and I to Apple Granny when we were younger, and when my friend's parents were looking for a spot to celebrate his graduation, I suggested we go here. They like American food (family outings include Denny's and Cracker Barrel) so to pull them out of their comfort zone, I offered up the only place in the area I know that was not-chain, but chain-like. I hope that description helps Yelpers understand what Apply Granny is about. It's definitely a place for picky eaters or people with simple taste, and I'm pretty sure nothing is exactly fresh or high-quality, but it serves it's purpose. When I go to places like this, I like to re-live my childhood and order plain chicken fingers and fries. You really can't go wrong with chicken fingers. My friend ordered a steak and they undercooked it a little bit. I've had their taco salad before and the Rachel, which is a Rueben with turkey, and they both filled my stomach without complaint. The atmosphere is very casual. It's usually pretty packed with a lot of local people and the wait staff is friendly without being overly down-your-throat. Located in historic Lewiston, NY this place has a charm to it. We went for lunch on a Saturday. Not very busy at all though the bar had more guests than the dining room. (Women's soccer championship was playing.) Quaint homey feel from the outside and small town vibes on the inside. Upon first walking in you can instantly smell the seafood. Our server was very nice and friendly and our order came out hot and fresh! Mom got the patty melt with onion rings witch she loved. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with fries and it was a very large chicken breast on a nice roll with all the dressings. Chicken could use some more flavor though, it seemed very plain. My son had the kids hot dog and fries, the bun was over toasted he couldn't eat it so just ate the hotdog. Fries are generic but still good.
