Although I do own a Mac Book Pro and love it, I cant fully agree with the review below.. Best Buys are everywhere, and you don't need an appointment. The Mac Guys know about their stuff because that's all they sell, is one thing, every day.. day after day, as supposed to a billion things at Best Buy from dif Companies.. I think both, Best Buy and the Geniuses at Apple, can use a few Computer Courses because they all seem to only know the same phrase, we need to reinstall, or we need to send it in for factory servicing. I am truly amazed when someone is the real McCoy (no pun). When you really come across those, get their number and hold on tight, because they are definitely hard to come by. I basically had no luck with my MacBook a few months ago when I brought it over to them. When your Laptop goes down in a City like this, it can cost someone a great deal of money to say the least. I'm all set now, thanks to the help of another Company. I'd say less employees who act Chipper/Confident, and more that can dig their hands into the root of problem and fix it right on the spot. I think there will always be a need for PCs, because that's what I turned to when my cute Mac went down and had to make an appointment with a Specialist. My DELL is always there for me. OMG iCrisis!!! For some inexplicable reason, all the super-addicting game applications I uploaded to my new iPhone stop working yesterday afternoon. This is a SERIOUS problem, requiring immediate attention. I leave the gym at 8:30 and head straight to the Apple Store, forgetting that in general, you're supposed to have an appointment to meet with someone at the Genius Bar. As I go to check in, I hear the check-in guy tell the person ahead of me that it might be up to an hour wait. What??? 9 pm on Friday night and there's an hour wait at the Genius Bar? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? Oh wait. After telling check-in guy what my problem is, I ask him in my best disappointed hot-girl voice whether it will really be an hour for me. He told me that I'd get priority because I had just bought my iPhone that week, but what I think he meant was that I'd get priority because I am a Stone Fox. Anyway, after about 10 min I get to meet with Cory, to whom I sheepishly explain that I'm there at 9 pm on a Friday night because I can't play any games on my iPhone. He actually seems a bit stumped for a moment, but then resets my settings, and everything works fine again. MAJOR RELIEF. Thank you, Genius Bar, for saving my life. read more

With two visits to the genius bar in a week, i think it's time for a review. Both of my experiences were pretty stellar. I walked away with two gripes that landed apple 4 stars in my book. My first appointment was for my ipad 2 when my speakers magically decided to stop working only after having it for a month. I discovered this on an airplane back from DR and was on the verge of a heart attack that my time period for a check-up on my device was past due until my boyfriend told me Mac guarantees their products for a year. Upon landing and gaining internet access I made my first Genius Bar appointment. I made this one during the week which apparently didn't matter because I still had to wait. They did, however, replace my ipad 2 immediately and for free. Heart attack averted. Later in the week, I made an appointment for my sister and I to get her iphone checked out while I had them look at my macbook, ipod and iphone (i obviously have an apple addiction). Anyway, gripe two, you have to make an appointment for each device so they can track service to each which in retrospect makes sense but is annoying if you haven't make an appointment for each upon arrival. Anyway, they replaced the shell of my white MacBook for free. With my self installed upgrade of a 500GB HD and 4 gigs of ram, my macbook looks brand new and I am very pleased. Overall I got all my devices fixed and had a nice experience. read more

Apple experiences can range from incredible and easy to frustrating and strange. This particular store gets a whole lot of foot traffic so the trick is to go at the right times. Typically first thing in the morning is a sure thing...anytime after 3pm is hopeless. Now, I personally love how they station at least one person at the entrance so you can walk right in and ask someone where you can find what you need. While they may differ in helpfulness (I've gotten the, "um...you should make an appointment" schpiel one time too many) it's an excellent strategy. When I walked in this past Saturday and asked for an iPhone, they asked me a few questions and led me to an open laptop on display where they keyed everything in. No register, no counter and no queue...just an open Mac sitting nearby. My blue-shirted boy grabbed a little mobile checkout machine with which he managed to do the fancy stuff needed to make such a transfer but I still was just standing at the Mac display while he brought me different things and smoothly moved through the process. Everything was wireless and mobile so I didn't have to wait in line or go near one...incredible. I have yet to go to one of the classes that they hold upstairs every day but the people who've gone always say good things about them. It would be interesting if more stores adopted their individualized consumer-oriented design. It's really incredible that people still go to places like Best Buy to purchase computers from people who aren't specialized at all and have only the most rudimentary understanding of the different brands when Apple Stores are out there. It's no wonder they can still charge those prices in this economy. read more

I love Apple stores and the Soho store is fantastic. Came in with my 4S on 1% and they not only steered me nicely to a station to charge but gave me tips on ways to charge faster. The store is ultra-modern and inviting as most are but this one has the added juice of being in Soho. Located on Prince Street and right near the subway the convenience can't be beat. No one tried to sell me anything and they were just super helpful and nice. A superior product with a team focused on excellent customer service, Apple kills it. Other retailers should take notice because so many others do it so poorly. There is a reason every phone in my house are I-phones and all computers are Macs. read more

I got in a fight with my "genius." Eventually I said, "I feel like you're not listening to me." He said right back, "I feel like YOU'RE not listening to ME." Well, that's fantastic customer service. Although I'm sure after a day of disgruntled users anyone could snap. Definitely make your genius appointment at home from your computer. It'll give you an arrival time... show up 20 mins before that, check in and then you'll be seen 20 mins after your time. It's not a perfect system but at least it gives you an approximation. read more

DO NOT RELY ON WARRANTY SUPPORT through the genius bar, or any form of reputable service if you use a WINDOWS PC with your iPhone. If the iPhone is a lemon, it seems there's a propensity for Apple employees to blame the issue on your PC rather than take responsibility for their faulty product. I purchased an iPhone approximately 1.5 years ago. Out of the box, it would erase all of my data during standard updates. I brought it in to the genius bar, saying there must have been an issue with the connection, and they blamed it on my PC. That's it. No other solution offered. Unfortunately, due to the tech's insistence that Apple products couldn't malfunction in such a way, I actually gave him the benefit of the doubt. Fast forward some more time, and- after I bought a new PC- the same issue occurs. Updating via. wire still does not work and you have to choose between not updating and corrupting your data. Lihtbulb: it's not my PC. At this point, the associate tells me I can update wirelessly (still IMPLYING the issue is PC-based) and, begrudgingly as I do not want to lose my contact or medias, I accept that solution as I'm in a bind otherwise. Soon thereafter, not only does a wired connection not work for updating my iPhone, but even a standard wall plug no longer charges my iphone. Now, obviously, BOTH of these issues are due to a faulty iphone connector port (though I'm sure if the techs would have blamed it on electricity if they thought they could get away with it). I bring it in, explain the issue, and they inform me that NOW the iPhone is out of warranty. This despite that it has been a persistent issue that I've had since purchasing the device. I explain to them that I've brought it in multiple times with the same problem and have always been told it was the fault of my PC. Their solution: they offered me another older model iPhone (for $150). This I had to accept as my current phone contract does not expire for another several months. So, in the end, due to Apple's (1) lack of accountability for their products, (2) propensity to hire unskilled techs who are willing to blame a PC on issues that are obviously due to the iPhone, and (3) poor record keeping of genius bar visits and product issues, I was forced to live with a lemon iPhone for two years (I could not even update music) and then purchase a new older model iPhone for $150 even though it was obvious to both me (and begrudgingly the tech, who said 'his hands were tied') that Apple was strictly at fault. When you purchase a product that retails for upwards of $700, you deserve better support than this. Personally, I think it's appalling that they rely on third-party contractual obligations and confusion among PC-Apple compatability to hawk old model iPhones on people for money. But I learned a lesson that day: Apple will not help you or care that they've sold you a bad product unless you buy more apple products. Otherwise, the issue will always be that non-Apple product. Wonderful. Well, thanks Apple, I'm switching to another phone brand once my contract expires. P.S., another fun update: When I switched to a new brand phone (android), my old contacts could not deliver me messages because they were subscribed to the imessage service. Yet another way Apple has tried ot tether me to their service. Never again. read more

Okay, I hate the crowds here - otherwise, I love this store. The staff has always been super helpful to me, answering all my dumb questions & helping me find things because I'm too obtuse to find them myself. They even sympathize with how high the prices are on the accessories. I've visited the Genius Bar several times - it seems to be run quite efficiently and the "Geniuses" have always been super friendly and helpful. I stood in line for a few hours to see a free concert by Talib Kweli here - it was worth the effort because I love him and it was great to see him perform on such a small, intimate stage. They have many other great events here, which I plan to attend in the summer because I can't brave the cold to stand in line that long! I love how you can purchase your items straight from a staff member instead of waiting in line and how you can have your receipt emailed to you - I know that's not unique to the Soho store, but I wanted to comment on that because it's f*cking awesome & one of the few things that are convenient in this city! Yeah, I was here till after 9PM (closing time) last night; I had to update the operating system on my iPhone but had too much data on the phone, so I wanted help with it rather than running the risk of screwing up. The techs were very patient and walked me through the upgrade; the downside was that they were very busy and I spent a lot of time waiting. I brought my dog, because I've learned you get better service if you bring a dog to the Apple store. (I've been told by a tech here that they get a lot of customers coming in from Brooklyn because of the location.) My roommate has remarked the techs at the Apple store all seem to have gone to the Trader Joe's school of customer service. Yeah, but you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, I always say. read more

Came in and the place was packed. Met with the nice greeters up front and they asked us what we were in for. After telling them we were looking for a phone upgrade and they told us where the phones were and someone would be with us in 10 minutes. Great news it took maybe 5 minutes and we met up with Clinton. He was outstanding. Took time to go over features of the new phone as my wife had a lot of camera questions. She was sold after hearing the differences. Then my daughter wanted to look at the watches and Clinton helped us find her the perfect watch. He was so friendly in the middle of sea of humanity that was in the store and made us feel like we were the only ones in the store. When you come into this Apple location ask for Clinton. During a crazy dance routine at some club..I accidentally stepped on my ear piece to my IPOD and subsequently shredded one ear piece to a few pieces. IPOD-Headset= No music on the go :-( This sucked even more because I was traveling! While I was shopping in Soho I stumbled upon the Apple store...It was probably the biggest Apple store I've visited. On a Saturday afternoon, the place was packed with people. Nevertheless, I was greeted right away by two charming lads asking if they could assist me. I showed them the carcass of what was left of my ear piece, the one emo-cute guy told me to stay put. Two mins later..he returned with a set of new earphones--free of charge. (full disclosure..I did NOT have to perform any favors) He did take my old ones tho...perhaps he is planning on selling them on Ebay once I am famous.... I HEART great customer service!! read more

The employees at this location are NOT friendly or even civil-They don't care that you are there and really could care less to help you. They always pass the buck to the next person...and if you want to know if they have something instead of checking stock for you they tell you to go upstairs and look for yourself...they are LAZY. Any other store I have been to outside NYC have always been pretty friendly and genuinely interested. This location could care less and they do not want to help you. And when I went in today they were empty so it wasn't due to their business...it's due to their laziness and lack of interest. The location on 5th is so much better and friendlier...go to that location and skip this sorry excuse for an Apple store. read more

Nothing short of an amazing experience - every single time. Even in the more frustrating situations, I've never not received personable and outstanding treatment at this location. I've never had bad customer service experience at any Apple location, but this one takes the medal for best treatment by a landslide. Apple needs to update their Genius Bar protocol . New to the city, I was 10 min late to my appointment (mind you I was waiting downstairs for 5 of those minutes thinking I could check in with the Apple dude there, but only handed me off upstairs to check in with another dude). And because I was late, they told me there would be an hour waiting time. An hour? Really? I ended up canceling my appointment after taking the 50 min commute. I've been to the Genius Bar before at other stores and it's the same thing. Even if I'm 10 minutes early for my appointment I would still have to wait 20-40 minutes for someone to help me out. We're human, I get it. At the same time, if something is not working you wanna try to make it more efficient. Apple only works if you don't have to deal with the Genius Bar's waiting game. Try to avoid. You don't wanna be my friend who dealt with Apple Support for 8 hours, suffered through the same troubleshooting protocols with each Apple support representative, got sent to the Apple Store anyways for a third replacement of her phone, and wait 2 hours for everything to be settled. read more

I bought an Apple Pro with apple care last year. When it stopped working, I took it in to receive the already bought care. They told me there was water damage when the computer was never near any liquids. They also said they would fix it at a flat cost of $700 some odd dollars. I told them to throw the (expletive) computer away and refund the money I spent for apple care. They said they could not do that. I then invited them to simply throw the (expletive) computer away and (expletive) themselves. It's bad enough they are selling a flawed product. But to charge a fee for help if it should be needed, and then say. "Oh, we're so sorry. We do not fix that problem, but will charge you up the wazoo if you choose to have it addressed," is quite beyond reason. read more

From the rude staffs, the unhelpful geniuses to the NASTILY ILL-MANNERED security guard, this is not the Apple Store you want to visit in New York. I had two genius bar appointments here and both times they were extremely unhelpful. I had to speak to a manager on the second appointment and the manager apologized but only refunded half of what I spent to fix my computer and it is still not fixed. This Apple store is the closets location to where we live, so my boyfriend had no choice but to bring our 27inch iMac to see another genius last Friday. They were again unhelpful and openly admitted that they do not know how to fix it. Yet these were not the worst incidents... When I went to the Apple Store to meet up with my boyfriend that night to help him move the iMac, my iphone had already died and I had no way to reaching him. So I rushed there before he had to move iMac by himself. When I arrived, I opened the front door of the temporary store (current location is at 27 Greent st) and was immediately ordered to "GET OUT!" by a large bald white man. At first glance, I had no idea who he was as he was not wearing the blue t-shirt the rest of the staff wore. Two seconds later, I figured that it's quite late and so this security guard is trying to say that "we're closed", so I explained to him that my boyfriend was downstairs of your store waiting for me and could I please go get him as my phone died already. However, before I utter another word, he cut me off with another bark of "GET OUT! WE'RE CLOSED!" A staff with blue t-shirt was just a few feet away from the front door, and I said if I could ask him to get my boyfriend, but then he started to approach me as though he was going to tackle me. He then said "that's not my problem" and he looked like he was ready to shove me out of the door. Furious but unable to do anything, I waited outside of the glass door for anyone to come by and to ask for their cell phone to call my boyfriend. And this abomination of a security guard just stood there and stared at me on the other side of the door! It was already late and I waited for quite a while before a guy to came out of the store. I explained the situation to him and he looked at me rather skeptically but let me use his phone to call my boyfriend. Finally, my boyfriend carried the iMac all the way up the stairs. Obviously he was not going to be able to open the door by himself. The security guy saw my boyfriend but clearly believed that opening door was beneath him, so I opened the door and that's when I got another rude cry of "YOU CAN'T COME IN HERE!! GET OUT!" read more

I'm giving the Apple store 2 stars now because I have been an Apple customer over the years and I've noticed a considerable downturn to the service I have received there. It could be two isolated and totally random situations, but the last two times I brought in my device because there was a glitch, the Genius bar could not help after waiting about 2 hours. My wife also just purchased an Apple 5 product and there was something wrong with it. Again, we were simply sent home with no solution to the problem. Pretty neat; it included a Q&A afterwards. Of course I couldn't help but get sucked in to looking at those damn cute iPod nano 3Gs they had. They're so small! And I totally want one! I don't have brand loyalty toward Apple, and I seldom visit Apple Store. I have been using PC for more than 15 years. For some reasons, I had to purchase a Macbook Pro, so I ordered one. And I had a bad experience picking up my order at Apple Store. On Sep 29, 8pm, I arrived Soho Apple Store to pick up my 1st Macbook Pro in my life. This was my 1st time visiting Soho Apple Store. According to the "notice of picking up" email, I could ask any Apple employee at the front of the store for assistance. I looked around, and saw one guy holding an Ipad was available. The guy put my name on the list by using an Ipad and told me there were about 10 people before me, so I had to come back in half hour. After half hour, I went back to the store and found the same guy to check if I could finally pick up my item. Unbelievably, I looked through the list and didn't see my name. I was really mad when I didn't see my name on the list. 30 minutes ago, I witnessed him typing my name on Ipad because I had to spell out my name to him ( as my name isn't a common western name), so I was 100% sure my name was on the list. I told the guy that I was here half hour ago and my name was on the list, he then quickly said "sorry about that" and then added my name on the list and told me that I would be the next customer to be served. I didn't know how the "serving" worked. He just told me I would be the next. But how did I know when I could obtain service? He didn't ask for my cellphone number; he didn't give me a "waiting number" either. Huh...it seemed like I had to check in with that guy every 10 minute to see if I could finally pick up my item...omg, I couldn't believe this was how Apple treat customers. Could it be possible that he would remember my name and my face, and once I became the 1st person on the waiting list, he would come to find me? Maybe, I didn't know. I idled in the store for couple minutes and went back to ask the guy again. I asked him how long should I wait, he asked me name again ( oh now I knew he didn't remember my name, so what I was wondering wasn't not possible), and said you would be served really soon. I got really unpleasant...I went to sit on a chair near by where the guy stood and then waited. When I was about to write a review on Yelp for this bad experience, he came to me to ask for some information and then finally I got my order. He apologized about the wait and sticked handles on the box for me to carry the box. He didn't ask me if I needed assistance to set up the system or needed any accessories. I guessed Apple employees were not told to do so. This was a really bad experience. If I've ever needed to get another Apple product, I would just order online and let it be shipped to my place, or just go to other stores like Bestbuy, Target etc to buy it. read more

Went to store to see a "genius" because I couldn't turn my iPhone on. To wait TWO HOURS (yes, 120 minutes) for a technician while many of them where behind the counter ('Genius Bar') schmoozing among themselves? Not nice. For most things you can make a convenient appointment online, with slots always available - but a phone is kinda an emergency, and I would expect Apple to be reasonably available, or at least all the paid people to be working. Apple now charges for every single service - clearly they're trying to salvage whatever they can now that the company is no longer led by the same visionary. What a terrible experience - Go to a different genius bar if you can. Or maybe call ahead and specify you need to be seen exactly at the time you book. The service was terrible. Of course you are greeted very nicely when you check in, but the fact that I had to wait for an hour even though I booked an appointment is ridiculous. The associates take forever to do anything and it is always a long wait (I was there twice this week). Even if you are picking up a product (which most of us would budget 10-15 minutes for) you will be around for almost 30. The actual fixing of my computer was great, they kept it overnight and it was done the next day, but overall do not expect to get anything resolved on your lunch break. read more

SoHo is one of the smaller Apple stores in the city but probably my favorite. It's a bit off of the beaten path therefore it is less crowded than other locations. One of my favorite things about this location is the auditorium where they hold their tutorials and training sessions. So if you partake, or want to partake in, and the free lessons that you have, you should do it at this location. All things else pretty much the same; the staff is super friendly, the products are the same, etc... read more

My first time writing a non-restaurant review! But I have to because this place was da bomb! I cracked my iPhone screen a couple of weeks ago while walking down the train station stairs (#mtaproblems) and had to get it replaced. I was really worried about having to come here since I had no idea what the screen replacement procedure would be like (where to go, how long it would take, how much it would cost). But!! Every staff member that I encountered here went above and beyond in helping me out! I didn't have an appointment but the staff member who helped me was really helpful in guiding me through the process of making an appointment. I had no problem checking in and had a really good idea of when to expect my phone to be fixed. The girl who returned my phone to me after it was fixed was SUPER nice! She didn't have a name tag though...otherwise I would've given her a shoutout in this review! My phone looks brand new now and I even picked up a new case for it before I left :)! A very spacious, well-designed Apple Store located in trendy SoHo. This is far more relaxed than the store on 5th Avenue and has a large auditorium upstairs where they frequently host training sessions, small concerts and guest speakers. The SoHo store used to be a post office and the restoration work carried out is simply beautiful. I am amazed at the effort and care that Apple takes when restoring these charming old buildings. If you are in New York and want to pick something up from Apple or have a Genius Bar appointment, come here instead of 5th Avenue or West 14th Street - it's a far more relaxing and inviting place to be. read more

I'd skip on the other 3 locations especially the 5th avenue groupie version. This one comes equipped with a theater center and I find the genius's way more insightful and patient then at the other stores. I usually have to charge my phone here after a long day of shopping and a rep always takes care of it for me while I browse the store. I love this Apple Store! The store is conveniently located on the off-street in Soho. It is usually not too busy on the weekdays. Every time I come here I receive the best customer service. Very chill vibes here. The person who helped me out was named Sam, I believe, and he was wonderful to talk with. I came here for an Apple Watch band, but they ended up not having it in stock. Sam did recommend other locations that had them in stock though. So overall, I would say great customer service, but the store should have better inventory control. read more

This store is too busy for its own good; the zoo-like atmosphere indoors makes this one of the worst Apple stores I've ever endured, and I wasn't even in on a weekend! I shudder to imagine what a weekend would be like here. I found the Genius who helped me with a new iPhone purchase brusque and not very knowledgable (he didn't know how to activate the SIM for my unlocked iPhone). read more

I cracked the screen of my iPhone 6 and was happy to see that Apple would fix for a reasonable amount. Cool. I wondered in and made an appointment at the Genius Bar and had about a 20 minute wait, which wasn't terrible. But then you have to wait when you get to the actual Genius Bar which seems redundant. Fine, I was given a pick up time and off I went. I returned at the appointed time and made my way through the Kafkaesque chain of employees directing me to the next employee only to have the pick up guy check his iPad and have no record of my existence. "Was I sure I had the right time/day?" Literally, you said 1:15 it's 1:15. More waiting. It's calibrating. I have to keep checking back to see if it's in the system. Finally it arrives like an hour later. The employee apologizes but then says " but Someone should have explained to you that the phone had to calibrate." Yes they did, but I foolishly though "your phone will be ready at 1:15" meant "ready at 1:15" not "1:15 plus an hour and change calibrating". read more
