The store itself is absolutely beautiful. The service can use some improvement. We came in to have a laptop checked out and fixed. We were told that we would get a text approximately 2 hours later to inform us that they are done, and we get 15 minutes to respond. An hour later came the text, accept we didn't check until 30 minutes after. We tried texting and calling to no avail. Came back in the store and had to re-check in then were informed we missed our appointment. So we had to wait another hour to get the laptop. For the price of the products, I would hope that the quality of support and service would follow suit. Nope. The products are nice, thus the 3 stars instead of 1. read more

Pretend to be the friendliest. They have "great" customer's service. But It is not real. If it was real they would help me get answers to why my new IPhone, purchased 3 months ago, making strange annoying noises whenever I am using it. The problem it does not happen all the time, once every 3-4 calls. So I couldn't "prove" it to them. But I am wondering. A grown up person has nothing to do other to come to Apple store and complain about issues with a new IPhone? Good end, one of the technicians was able to locate the issue and repair it. But if I wouldn't insist, I could leave with no solution to a real problem. The sales associates at this location are great, but the manager/supervisor is rude, arrogant, and disrespectful to both customers and staff. My wife was told by the supervisor that she could buy her new iPhone at AT&T and still trade in her old phone for the trade-in value, when her Apple Store purchase would not go through, only to be told when she returned several days later that she would only receive an Apple Store gift card. When we told the supervisor this, he could not care less, told us there was nothing he could do, and treated us like we were a nuisance. Thank you Apple Store for allowing us to teach a valuable lesson to our children about how not to treat customers and people in general. read more

Help didn't happen. They left me there for over an hour "downloading" an update. When I had a problem with it, I was treated by one of their "geniuses" as if I was anything but a customer. He was rude and had a real attitude. It was disgraceful. It seemed more important to him to chat and gossip with a co-worker than help me. read more

I have had the worst action referred to as help at this store. I was scammed, my hard drive was badly affected. I turned to the genius bar at Apple. The incapable "genius" said he would find the areas that needed to be cleared, remove them and leave the material that was not affected. But it would take days. I arrived days later to find that he had just removed my hard drive and replaced it with a new one. Didn't bother asking if there was information that was irreplaceable. And didn't bother to tell me that I would not get the original hard drive. What this stupid ass did was take the following from me. Twenty eight hours of lecture that I give at school. At least 2000 musical clips that I use in my class. All of my scheduling and financial records. I am now being audited for a year that I have no information for. On top of that, why is Apple so inept with "firefox" which I use. It seems that they specialize in Safari and know little to nothing about firefox. So I am now having to switch back and forth at the will of this idiot in order to get to my email. My computer is so messed up that I have to find a quiet space with loads of time to accomplish the slightest thing. If I could give the store no stars that would be my preference. I am a senior, and don't have the facility that those of you who have been born with a computer in your hands have. I am seriously furious. I needed help and who to turn to but the apple people. Someone off of the street would probably been a better choice. I am now trying to replace my lectures but I will never be able to replace the recordings some of which I paid for. This place is always packed. Even with an appointment, you have to wait quite a while after you get checked in. There's no labeled spot where you should wait, they just send you to a general corner of the store to stand around. There are no seats. I came here because my iphone 6, barely 3 years old, was dying within the hour from battery drain. This is a well documented defect on line but apple insists that it's only a small number of iphone 6s that are affected. This is simply not true. Of course, the apple store employee that helped me was not going to admit that their product was at fault. He simply told me that it was normal for batteries on iphones to last no longer than 2 years and that it was expected that it would need to be replaced. A $700 phone that lasts 2 years? What else do you buy in life that costs $700 and only lasts 2 years. Is this even acceptable? The Apple tax is real and because it has essentially infiltrated every aspect of life of people middle class and up, it's impossible to escape their ecosystem. They have us by the balls and they know it. I ended up having to pay $84 to change my battery when the phone itself is only reselling for $110. Thanks Apple. I will say that the guy that took care of me was very professional and nice. However, I still hate that I am trapped with Apple. read more

Outstanding customer service on a recent visit to the store in July. The store manager, Edwin, went above and beyond to resolve a hardware issue near the store closing time. Edwin ensured that the original hardware issue was resolved, along with a secondary hardware issue that he noticed and resolved. I would definitely come back to this location again. I scheduled an appointment at the Genius Bar in this store and they kept me waiting for FIFTY minutes! I talked with several people and the answer was only that they couldn't control how long it takes to help people. At one point the store manager came to ask what was happening because he'd seen me standing there waiting for a long time. That was when someone came to help. I thought it was just me. I'm happy I saw a similar review talking about how unprofessional and rude the staff is here. I've come to this store for a variety of reasons about 5 times over the last year. The staff acts like you're wasting their time. I feel crappy every time I leave. This is not a criticism of Apple stores in general. The staff in Grand Central is great. The staff in Soho is great. I used to frequent the store in Palo Alto and they were kind and patient. Unfortunately my review is not regarding a product or positive. I have been an apple "junkie" for lack of better terms since the i-phone 2 (literally) and I haven't not had such an awful experience until today. I went in to replace another AirPod (6th pair) which is a clear indication I enjoy Apple products and honestly up until this point I have enjoyed the customer service even durning the pandemic. However, I was extremely upset and bothered after my experience today. Normally when I am partnered up with a team member they state their name, say hello and ask me what bring me in today. However, I think the young man who they partnered up with me may have been having a bad day. He NEVER stated his name or said hello for that matter just what can I help you with. Not a big deal not everyone Is a greeter. As he's doing what he's doing I asked him where I can find the iPhone 12 he starts walking and points to a table. I then ask him are these all 12 he goes yes, not offering any kind of support not trying to upsale or anything. If he even attempted to properly assist he would have seen that not only is my phone broke I clearly was interested in upgrading. After being turned off I decided I rather not upgrade here. He hands me back my air pod mumbles they will need to be synced for 30min if they don't work and walked away (which at the moment I had no clue what he was saying, due to the face mask). Clearly I work at apple and know what the heck that may mean. DISGUSTING SERVICE TO SAY THE LEAST. I then started messing around with them and was under the impression maybe it's two different generations pods and that's the reason they are more working because that has happened to me in the past. I stopped PICO who was free at the moment and requested assistance. PiCO tried to assist but wanted to get the young man I worked with previous. He came back over and stated "remember I told you if it don't work you have to plug them in for a half hour". I wanted to know in what training apple gave its OK to be Condescending to customers? I was turned off and told him I don't wish to work with him send someone else. Picco then tried assisting and in my 6min of interacting with her she not only explained the issue with the air pods properly she also glanced at my phone and encouraged me to look at the 12 and 12plus I told her I honestly wanted to upgrade but at this point I'm really disgusted with the service and rather leave. Picco worked over time not only apologizing but she encouraged me to stay fix my air pod issue so I don't have to return she also tried to get me a new phone and if it wasn't for her I may have left and never looked apples way again. Employees have to realize one awful experience can really turn someone off to the entire brand. Anyway, the young man I never received his name until later was Lavar, please address him because I'm sure if you view your cameras none of the humans I saw him work with seem to enjoy the experience which says a lot. OH MY GOD! For all the money it costs to have ANY Apple product, you'd think they would figure customer service out!! I would rate then ZERO if I could! Their people are so disorganized and impolite!! Went in to have my phone looked at, wouldn't turn on thanks to one of the billion software updates they make, was told my appt had been cancelled, but they'd "squeeze me in". I'm like... oookay..... Someone comes over and sits me down, after 15 min wait, plugs my phone in and says someone will come over. Long story short, 30 min later, I'm just sitting there and no one has come over. Only Apple store on the upper eastside in manhattan, I come here once in a blue moon, only for personal preferences because of the location and staff. Although there are other stores located around the city, this store is unique because it used to be a bank, space is limited so it may feel crowded on certain days. If you complain, as I did, about waiting in a sparsely populated store while the working reps talked with Anthony, the "manager," he comes over to deliver a lengthy pompous lecture on respect. Right. How about some respect for prospective buyers of a newer iPhone? Anthony is a fool. He needs a management course in respecting the customer. Turning a customer off and thereby affecting the bottom line of the company that pays his salary is not a good idea. There are still some good people at the Genius Bar, but it's rather disappointing to see how far Apple has fallen. Employees in red shirts hanging out in groups around the store while there are one or two people running around like chickens without heads trying to pick up the slack. The "specialists" have very little product knowledge. It's almost as if they're figuring it out as they go and they act as if they are doing you a favor. No enthusiasm whatsoever. Beautiful store, makes waiting time not seem so bad. You have a very good, knowledgeable team who handles customers very well from what I observed while I was there today. You truly have an outstanding employee who I would like to recognize, Hector. Hector greeted me with such a warm smile and genuine concern for helping me. I have had an issue with my phone for a week and between talking on the phone with my service provider and Apple care multiple times, to say that I was fed up is a complete understatement. Hector took the time to go through every possible option to see what was wrong with my phone, and explained everything every step of the way. His tone & persona kept me calm while most of the solutions didn't work. He stayed with me and ensured the issue got fixed before I left the store today. I made an appointment with Apple for 11am cause i was told that the wait time would be less, when i got there i was told my appointment was for 12:20pm so my wait time would be 1 hour that is unbelievable I would not recommend this store to anyone. Don't bother coming here because this is the WORST APPLE STORE IN NYC! I moved from Midtown E to UES and, every time I've been here (which has been 5x straight), the staff are neither helpful nor friendly & I end up going back to Grand Central shop where they do resolve the issue. UES shop should take a page out of the handbook in customer service & know-how from the team at Grand Central! It's TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE that after waiting & waiting & waiting for 30+ min, the "genius" spends 5 min w/ you to tell you he/she can't help & that you should just try wiping out & trouble-shooting your IPhone at home yourself or that your Apple Watch is not totally syncing but if you do the prior to your iPhone, that should also resolve syncing issue. AGAIN & AGAIN, I'm left to my own devices (literally). I come here, they don't bother to fully investigate & help, and then I head over to the GC shop, which ends up resolving the same issue(s) the UES ship could not. This happens every time!!! One of the reps didn't even make eye contact w/ me when I asked about some of the products I was interested in purchasing. It was like playing 20 questions in order to get his attention & some information out of him. In the end, M & I left out of frustration & didn't buy anything. In addition, the shop is poorly laid out. Since the shop is infinitely smaller than most other Apple stores, the Genius Bar is also sized down in proportion & minimal seating is offered with 3x the number of people standing around waiting on the main floor blocking the product display cases. If that's the case, why not double the number of chairs on the top floor?! Better yet..since the shop is smaller, why not make a distinction between the 2 floors? Have people check in at a counter on the main floor & designate them a seat (like the Grand Central shop) & , more importantly, move the majority of the waiting section of the Genius Bar to the bottom floor, since there are already seats on that floor. The bathrooms are also downstairs. Currently, the bottom floor seems like an over-glamorized area to display cases & Apple paraphernalia which, I'm sure if laid out properly, can be moved to the main floor. The only impressive thing about this shop is that there is a VIP Vault room (also on the bottom floor) for customers purchasing the 14k gold Apple Watch & other high-end products, which you can check out when it's not in use. But why have this shop offer these higher-end products when the comfort, decor & customer service levels aren't up to par with the other Apple stores in the City? Never coming back again...I live 3 blocks away & am disgusted by this shop & the fact that I have to make an appointment & travel further to another shop in order to get better service! read more

I visited this store for an impromptu visit for my phone. Unfortunately it dropped so the screen and phone was ruined. I was very pressed for time that day and wanted to go to a store on the Upper East Side. I'm used to going to the locations at grand central, 14th street and 5th avenue. All of which are VERY busy most of the time. However, I've gotten so used to it being so busy and crowded that I assumed that every New York store was like that. After going to this store location, I was immediately taken back by how laid back the place was compared to the hectic hustle and bustle of the other location. I'm not sure if this was because of the time I went or if it is always like this. I went at around 11:30AM on a weekday. I'm assuming that everyone was at work during this time. The employees were very helpful and resolved the problem with no difficulties. I had made an appointment with a Genius prior and then following that, they were able to take my phone. Luckily, I was able to get lunch around the area since the wait was about an hour and a half. When I came back, I was in a rush since I had work soon thereafter. I told one of the Genuises who was SUPER friendly and made sure that I had gotten my phone in a timely fashion. I received my phone and it was as good as brand new! If I am near the area I will definitely go back again. I'm curious as to whether or not this is a busy location at another time. The other location are near tourist areas as well so that may also have an effect. I will definitely visit again as all the employees are very nice and helpful. read more

Reps and managers alike, the staff is not helpful. I walked in with shorted out headphones and was told I needed to wait until Sunday (if I booked an appt) to find out if I was eligible for a replacement under warranty. I wanted to know if I was covered under said warranty or if I should just buy new ones. The manager said they were closing in half an hour (meaning she was apparently done working for the day) so I would need to make an appt to find out if I was eligible. All l wanted to know was if I was covered under warranty which should have been simple enough to answer with a yes or no. Making me wait 3 days to answer a simple question is complete BS. I would have been happy to make the appt if I knew that I was still under warranty. Otherwise, I would just bite the bullet, spend the money on new headphones and save myself the 3 days of waiting. Apple, just a suggestion: maybe you should only pay her until 730 since that is when she mentally clocks out. read more

I visited the Apple store (Upper East Side) yesterday regarding a technical issue I was having with my phone. I wanted to start by saying I was dreading going to the store with the anticipation I would spend half my day there. However, I made an appointment and hoped for the best. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and checked in. Within 1 minute I was greeted by an employee by the name of Brad. Brad turned what I thought would be a dreadful experience into the quickest, most pleasant experience ever! He listed to my issue, quickly diagnosed the problem, replaced my phone and transferred my service in under 30 minutes. I would say I spent more time in the store waiting for my icloud restoration vs resolving the problem. Thank you Brad!!! read more

This is a live, in-store review: Had a 2:05pm appointment for the "Genius" bar for a cracked iPhone screen. Got to the store at 1:55pm to check in (without any expectation to be seen immediately). The girl at the door gets my name and dismissively tells me to "check in with the girl with the iPad over there". iPad girl dismissively says "you're early, can you come back in 5-10 minutes?" I say ok, hang around for a few minutes and go back to iPad girl as instructed, who (a bit less dismissively this time) says "go to that guy with the hat over there". Hat guy is actually polite, checks me in, and tells me to wait by the wall. I wait for about 25 minutes before someone tells me to grab another seat. 10 more minutes go by before another nice guy comes to actually help me. So let me get this straight: these guys won't check me in 5-10 minutes prior to my appointment but will make me wait over a half hour to get any kind of real help? Where's the glitch here? Something in their process is clearly not working. Anyway, everything from here goes on smoothly and I am told to return in an hour. One hour later, I get my phone back, ready to go. Overall an okay experience, marred mainly by the attitude of a couple of employees, and the general inefficiency of the store. read more

Not a fan. Too many Apple sales people all over you. And they don't even try to fix your iPhone or Mac any more. The first thing they do is try to upsell you. And the best thing is they must get a lot of complaints because they now have a sign that reads, "if you have a complaint, you can say so here..." I came to buy Beats headphones for my daughter and it was $100+ more than Amazon! So overpriced. And they have a basement vault with a 90 inch tv in it that is locked. I asked is it an Apple TV? No, but it is connected to one of those small Apple TV boxes said the Genius Bar sales rep. Duh?! And we are supposed to bow down to this locked non-Apple TV?!!! Still done with Apple. read more

Wow. Tech-agida. That is the new word that came to mind as I left the store after almost 3 hours of being there. I have 8-10 Apple products currently in our household, 3 purchased in the past 6-12 months, and do not want agida. Peak agida when after issues still unresolved - I was locked out of my son's computer as we were resetting various passwords to help do so -one that wouldn't take - and the "head genius" / manager said "There's nothing we can do: you're locked out." Said my only option was to go to a third party vendor. (whaaaat?) Me, way aggravated at the almost 3rd hour there : "That is an unacceptable response. You are the head genius - and I need you to tell me what you CAN do not what you CAN'T do. I now am here w none of my issues fully resolved and am not accepting I cannot even get into my sons computer. I need this to be figured out now before I leave, and I am not going to a third party." His subordinate - the impressively ambitious employee helping me- DID eventually figure out how to do this on her own using an alternate method which clearly a head genius should know how to do. The location needs more experienced / knowledgable supervisory staff to help the ambitious and very friendly, helpful genius desk workers who seem great at running diagnostic programs and IDENTIFYING problems from their iPads and have SOME trouble shooting ability; but they need some more experience, knowledge, training or supervisors who can help them trouble shoot further and FULLY RESOLVE iPhone and MacBook issues. Now stating the positive. The gal working with me would get 5 stars for her friendliness. attention, ambition and trying to enlist others' support in areas outside her expertise... Her basic diagnostic running / basic problem identification, super. I gather with a little bit of more senior input she would have run with and probably been able to fully resolve at least a couple more issues and in less time. For the first hour I was Impressed: appointment on time, very friendly employees, personable and attentive service, skilled to "run diagnostics" programs from their iPads to check for issues (These seem magical how it showed all the non issues as it ran... but honestly I don't know if these diagnostics are completely comprehensive or totally accurate as they did not identify any issues on my phone or the 2 MacBooks despite the problems I have experienced and that the employee found ... ) Again, I started impressed for the first hour during the problem identification stage - 2 employees initially ran diagnostics from their iPads on my 2 computers and my iphone -- simultaneously ... Another employee looking into a previously purchased membership which needed to be activated. (However this wasn't resolved by the other employee fully as I never received the activation letter I was guaranteed I would receive... ) The main employee also went to talk to someone else about parental control questions I had- another person she enlisted in areas outside her expertise - and said I could go talk to her after ... Her progress / efforts: - She found adware on my sons' computer running one diagnostic software and removed that . - She also despite "healthy diagnostics" from her iPad program stating otherwise could see that his mousepad was not working... Said his computer will need to be sent for repair. - Found a way to get into my computer when I was locked out and the head genius said I was out of luck... - Showed me how to save all our computer data to a hard drive which I need to do before his computer is sent out and mine is further investigated for reasons why my iPhone photos won't save to my MacBook ... - She was fantastic providing input where she could and knew when to ask other employees for direction or to help me and did so efficiently - 3 other people in my visit. So there was a lot of attention and friendly service - some problem IDENTIFICATION and some trouble shooting efforts made by the main employee working w me - that I initially thought, wow this is incredible ... And is going to be a great productive visit ... But she needed someone - a more knowledgable manager - to effectively resolve a couple issues. Unresolved: - membership activation email guaranteed but not sent - my computer needs to be investigated why photos not syncing/ saving to iPhoto. - son's computer needs to be sent out for repair - phone: diagnostics said all is ok so my phone quirks lately are a mystery - parental control questions: ran out of time after almost 3 hours so need to return to ask I have another appointment Monday to continue this and hopefully the other issues are resolved, questions are answered and my sons computer is repaired satisfactorily; otherwise this will be my last visit here and I will continue going back to the Fifth Avenue store where I have always been thrilled with their products and services read more

Frankly, I've never had anything other than exceptional experiences at Apple Stores. Everybody at the Madison Avenue store is incredible, from the managers to supreme sales associate Mike. There's a reason why Apple does well, but the core is their store and customer service experience. Additionally, this is a magnificent, historical store. Love love love. I used to go to 5th Avenue because it's close to me. I'm in the lower 60s East. But I decided to try this since Apple moved into the FAO location. NAOMI: God bless her. She did a lot of stuff. Reconnected me to the Cloud. A lot of stuff was logged out. 6 months not connected to the Cloud. Also I needed to export a text message thread three years old to my MacBook. SMS Export needed access to contacts. Also my texts not syncing to my Macbook. A host of issues all related to my 5S about 1.5 years old. Bonus: I got my computer cleaned (externally) with those little wipes. So not a petrie dish. Also: This location is gorgeous. Historic landmark. UES folks , the Madison set, were outraged by Apple's occupation of the old bank. But it's beautiful. No tourists up that far, or at least not the mob of 5th Ave. Hours are limited of course. But it is beautiful and the people were all terrific. I walked 15 minutes and it was a glorious day in which my problems were resolved. Bought new storage for 3 bucks/month and my devices are all in working order now. I will never go to 5th Ave store unless in a pinch in the middle of the night. This is a beautiful store. My only complaint: GARISH and utterly hideous large posters on the wall. The Tokyo is so tacky. Otherwise I'm in absolute love. NAOMI ROCKS! read more

I purchased my apple phone case and my new phone here. The case chipped on the endge well within the warranty and I was not allowed to exchange for another. You're better off buying accessories at a 3rd party retailer, at least they'll stand by the company warranty. read more

I arrived at the store at 5 pm for a 5:40 pm appointment. I was told I could not be checked in until then. Unfortunately it took me till 6:17 to be serviced. However I stood in my little corner of the room and saw quite a number of other folks receiving services and they appeared to be coming in way after me!!!!! I was also told since I only had a phone appointment they couldn't look at my I pad which was not working either. You have to make a separate appointment. Stupid rule!!!!!!!! I imagined Apple would have a better grip on customer service!!!! It was horrible!!!! They need to survey and improve immediately!!!! To buy a 1000 dollar phone then be treated like a piece of $2.00 meat makes me think I should have bought an android !! It also seemed as though the people coming in to shop were given the red carpet treatment!!!!! They also should get seating for their. Customers!!!! I had surgery and standing long periods of time is out of the question... not to mention seniors!!!! In this location Apple needs to get it together!!!! read more

What was once the U.S. Mortgage & Trust bank is now Apple's latest retail location. Part of a Beaux Arts building constructed in the 1920s, the store has been remodeled by the multinational tech corporation, yet the essence of its history is maintained. The building's exterior preserves its original look, a modest black flag with a white Apple logo indicating the company's presence. Inside, chandeliers, marble floors, and a grand staircase paint a picture of the establishment's rich history. A modern touch of note, the walls are adorned with portraits of the surrounding area. Speaking of portraits, I had the opportunity to visit on opening day (June 13th), and upon entering the store, was handed a small white book titled "Portraits of the Upper East Side." Flipping through it, the hardcover publication is essentially a series of small photographs depicting Apple's new neighborhood. It was an unexpected detail that contributed a distinct character and class to the whole experience, and I appreciate that someone thought of the idea. Attention to detail, as most are aware, is one of Apple's strong suits. It shouldn't be a surprise, then, that the lower level contains not just a workshop area for classes, but the Mortgage & Trust bank's vault, repurposed as a VIP room for its Apple Watch Edition try-on appointments. This VIP space includes a couple couches and a large television display. According to reports, the bank vault retains its substantial steel door and bars. Of course, let's not forget that this historical masterpiece is, at the end of the day, an Apple Store. If you're like me and you love their products, the new 940 Madison Avenue location will blow you away with its manifestation of modernized elegance. read more
