We came in to Applebees again since we haven't been in a looong time! Our trio app was yummy! Love the pretzels and chicken tacos! The boneless wings were delicious! The dips were good too! Our server was super sweet, Maya!! The restaurant itself needs a major overhaul! The ceiling was literally falling down and the ceiling tiles were moldy, by the bar. Applebee's does nothing to escape its reputation as the bargain basement of sit-down restaurants, and my recent visit to this location was no exception. At great risk to my waistline and general well-being, I came here to partake in their unlimited chicken tender and fries deal. I figured the chicken strips weren't going to blow me away with quality but I was surprised to find they managed to actually make chicken taste bad. It was really low quality breading, with the strips falling apart even during the short trip from the plate to my mouth. The fries were barely seasoned too, so there wasn't a whole lot to look forward to on that plate. Service was present but robotic at best, and clearly very enamored of their regulars and disinterested in everyone else. I am actually impressed that anyone would make this place their regular haunt, I always figured masochists like that didn't exist outside of certain alternative circles. If you're looking for value, you have to aim a little higher than this, since Applebee's will always deliver on price and underdeliver on quality. I used to love this place. My visit was for my birthday dinner with my family, I didn't mention it to the server though. The waitress was extremely rude to my adult brother and told him to "speak up". He ordered the name of an alcoholic drink however she didn't check his ID and gave him a regular lemonade. When he was trying to clarify later on that is when she said "speak up" very unprofessional. She only tended to our table once so my Mom didn't get a refill. Crazy thing is she explained to the table behind us that she was having a hectic day and APOLOGIZED. We went here today and got the 2 For $25.00 we started with the spinach artichokes dip and chips was very good. we both ordered the sizzle steak one no garlic have to ask for XX garlic if you want it because it was very little. Steaks came out way over cooked, so they remade them the remake time was a bit long but that's ok no big deal 1 of the remake steaks came out overcooked again, but i did not want to waste another remake just in case, What the Manager did for use was get us enough shrimp to offset the price. Very happy about that. there was some food that was cold but again they fixed this. What I did not expect was not only did they remake the steak they gave us the whole entree. My husband and I are relatively new to Richmond Virginia. As we are budget conscious we checked out the two for twenty five menu. The first time we ordered the onion rings as an appetizer and I tried the cheeseburger with a Caesar salad instead of fries. I have a little heart condition and I need to avoid fried food and was splurging with onion rings. The store mentioned onion rings were tender and bursting with flavor. The burger was pink in the middle exactly the way I ordered it the Swiss cheese combined with the meat is delicious. This entree comes with tomato soup I took one spoonful and set it aside it tastes like prego spaghetti sauce. My husband Steve was happy with his choice chicken Parm over fettuccine. On Friday December 19, we went back and ordered from 2 for 25. This time my husband and I sampled the boneless wings. He tried the Swiss burger this time and we shared his fries. Because of my afore mentioned little heart condition I don't often eat fried food but it had been more than one year since I had a meal that was fried so I went with the chicken tenders platter. The servers were polite and friendly both times we were there. These days you have to tell wait staff if you don't want your bread toasted or your fries plain and unseasoned. We told our server Mike who also tends bar that we can't seasoned fries. He took them back and brought a huge order of plain fries that my Steve and I could both share. He stopped by our table to talk and just made us feel welcomed and special. The manager himself stopped by to say hello and we shared a wonderful conversation. One server walked by and at least said hello but gave no indication that she cared that we were just standing there or was going to attempt to get someone. One of the two bartenders standing around behind the bar also noticed us standing there and it did appear that he might go get someone but still no one came so we gave up and left. I had to get my tires repaired across the street at Costco and came here to have lunch and wait. I got the blackened salmon with two veggies as sides. I substituted the mash potatoes and got green beans instead. Food was great. I always worry Service was fantastic from the second I was greeted at the front to my server who came to check on me multiple times. I am simply rating the customer service for the purpose of this review and NOT the food I ordered. My issue is how poorly I was greeted by the host. I made an online order today and was advised my food will be ready at 4:12 . I arrived at around 4:16pm and as I walked in I was not greeted. I had to literally look around and stare at the host in his face for about 2min before he asked if I had a mobile order. I responded yes and then he pointed to a sign that said restrooms and said I would pick my order up near there. I walked through the restaurant and waited some more as nobody was at their station to ask about the order I placed. One girl asked if someone helped me I said no and she walked away assuming she went to get someone. Another 5 mins passed only for the next person to tell me my order is t ready yet. The visit went well as far as casual dining goes. The crowd was pretty light for a Saturday evening near 5pm, so we were seated almost immediately upon entering. We happened to be seated by our waiter who took our drink our as soon as we were seated. This (ordering the drinks as soon as we were seated) was nice because he gave us time to look over the menu and by the time he returned with our drinks we knew what we wanted to order. This evening we weren't starving or anything so we both ordered from the appetizer menu. This was also a good idea because our orders came out faster than ordering a regular entree (and we didn't want to be in there all night). Our apps came out just as we ordered them; the food temperature was also perfect. A little disappointed in my whole experience. I went in Monday 1/8/18 around 3:15 pm to get my favorite Applebees menu item, the French Onion soup. They were not busy, at all. I stood at the hostess desk for about 5 minutes without any recognition. Then i just decided I'd go to the bathroom and seat myself. I sat at the bar for another 5 minutes without any recognition, again. Then a gentleman waiter/manager on the opposite side of the bar asked if I'd been helped. I shook my head no. He then told the bartender i needed help. I ordered my soup. As i was waiting i noticed a dust ball by/in the napkins...gross. My soup came about 25 minutes later and there was less than the expected amount of cheese, which is a huge part of French Onion soup. That being said, I've had way better experiences. read more

This visit to Applebee's was okay. It was a Friday night and they were pretty busy. The table behind me ended up getting their meal for free because of the long wait. Everything was decent. The nachos came out cold, cheese wasn't even melted. I made the waitress aware and she took $2 off since I decided to keep them (didn't want to wait again for the appetizer). I tried the bourbon street chicken and shrimp and it was just ok. Didn't have enough flavor for me. Next time I visit I'll stick to a burger and fries. It's no wonder the bartender took his sweet time even showing up! We walked in at 5:00pm (Happy Hour time) and sat there for almost 10 minutes before the guy even returned from whatever it was he was doing. While we sat there drinking our beers I noticed the staff all huddled in a corner performing some creative "team building" exercises. Neck massages, playful head locks, mild gossip, and then finished off with what appeared to be a "Scrum meeting" (you can Google that) We were only here to kill time before the Yelp Elite event. Thankfully we got out of there in 30 minutes. To be fair the hostess was on point, and it appeared the waitresses' (those who were actually working) seemed to be doing a good job. Stopped by here with a friend after an evening of tennis, and I have to say I was not impressed. One doesn't go to Applebee's for a 5 star experience, but there were some serious problems with the food. --Food: We ordered a plate of hot wings as it was 1/2 price apps and I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The wings were fine; saucy and tasted good. The rest of the meal only went downhill from there. Immediately upon receiving my fries, I noticed they weren't that hot. I'm not even sure that one would consider them warm. Whatever, I told myself, I was partially filled from the wings and had a burger (which was what I was most looking forward to), so I figured I wouldn't be eating many of these anyway. Sadly, the burger, despite being requested to be medium-well, was incredibly dry and quite lacking in flavor. I don't normally use much ketchup on my burgers since I like the taste of the burger itself, but I had to use some with this, else I'm not sure I'd be able to swallow it. The bacon was slightly overcooked too. If there is a saving grace to this it was that while a bit dry, it was still edible, and I was pretty hungry from 3 hours of tennis, so it mostly all got eaten. --Cost: For a dry and bland burger and tepid fries, $11 is way too much. The wings were half off and were definitely worth the price. Also, my friend was tapping around the touch screen device on our table and somehow managed to purchase a game of Memory that lasted about 20 seconds and cost him a dollar, which I found hilarious. I think he probably tapped too fast, but those games really shouldn't cost that much, haha. --Service: Our waitress was nice, but service as a whole was pretty slow. (Order taking, food delivery, and handling of the check). I wasn't in a rush, which is good. --Atmosphere: It's an Applebees. Was reasonably clean. --Overall: Maybe my expectations are a little high, but I would be extremely hesitant on coming here again. Our server was nice and the wings were reasonably tasty for being half priced, but that's about it in the way of positives. Instead of spending $20 (with tip), I would take $5 fries and burgers from any fast food place in a heartbeat. It's possible we had an off night, but it was off enough to not really encourage me to come back with all of the other options in the area. Update I went back and ordered the same thing at the same location, wow what a big difference two weeks made. The curbside order never came to my car after waiting 15 minutes I called and they told me they are coming right now. While I was waiting two Applebee employees came out the curbside to go door and was dancing and made a video of each other booties. When I finally got my food and started eating it was horrible, the ribs you could look at them and taste them and see they weren't even slow cooked. The burger was good but the bun was sopping with butter. The steak was ordered medium but came well done. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were ok. The sodas were $2.50 a piece.... wow. All of this would have been ok if the waitress had been more aware. We sat next to the front and heard all the people that were angry about not being sat in a timely fashion. I walked in and no one was at the host section. I only waited a minute or so before somebody came when they got there they simply looked at me. This went on for about a minute until they asked in the quietest voice possible "how many" I said one they picked up some menus and put them on a table and walked away to go clean another table. The waitress came after about five minutes, asked if I wanted to start with a drink then immediately if I was ready to order, I told her no I needed a minute. She came back with my drink about five minutes later then asked if I was ready to order again. I got an appetizer. she did not check on me until after the appetizer was brought out which was about 10 minutes then asked me again if I was ready to order. I ordered my food and I got a cocktail. Cocktail never came. Thankfully they didn't try and charge me for it or it would've been a movie in there. The food sat in my stomach, like a rock almost immediately. On top of that when trying to pay, I wasn't given a book to put my card in so I went to the hostess section after waiting about five minutes for her to come to my table again. When I went there, I was still in view of my table, just in case she came to get my card. She came to my table, shook her head, like I didn't pay then I called for her attention and asked her if I paid it up at the front she said "no you can pay with me". I paid it and left no tip. obviously. I know small parties are not the most exciting bc smaller tips. But I always tip when the service is solid. Ehhhh not going to Applebee's again. This experience was so lackluster. It should be a shame on me though because what do you expect to come of a 2 for $25 meal? Despite my thoughts on the whole experience, the place was packed. Definitely can't fault them for that. But, everything from the food to the staff was tired. Our waiter was so monotone and seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else but at work. Our food took forever to come out. The appetizer, boneless buffalo wings, were good. I decided the other day to have lunch in Applebee's as it has been a while. I was hungry for a good burger. After looking at the Menu, the Bourbon Black & Bleu Burger got my attention as it had Caramelized Onions, Bacon, Red Bell Pepper, Jack Cheese & Chipotle Mayo. I ordered it Med Rare with French Fries. I did ask for additional Bleu Cheese. My Server was Britney, and she came by twice to let me know it would be ready soon, as it took about 20 min. for the burger to come out... The strange thing, I do not think there were 8 people in the place and most were already eating... When the Burger came out, I could tell the fries were already OVER cooked and I was correct. They just left them in the Fryer a little too long and I felt like when I ate a Fry, I had to chew on it for a while or wash it down with water... I was disappointed in how the fries were cooked. Upon biting into the burger, it was Well Done with NO seasoning. Remember, I asked for Med. Rare. The Burger was dry as though they had cooked it for 15 min. I debated on whether to send the whole plate back or not, however I was in a rush as I had the dog in the car and I did not want to wait another 20 min for another dish. Britney came over to ask me, how was everything. So, I was honest with her and told her I would NOT order this again as they must have a NEW Cook in the Kitchen who does not know how to Cook.... She said, the regular cook had been sent home so they could give this NEW cook some time on the grill. Now, I can understand as to why it took 20 min, and most of all... why everything was OVER Cooked.... I paid for his Cooking lesson. This is the worst location, I always have issues and have even posted a review on here but some how they are getting deleted!!!!!!! Everytime I go I have to stand around for about 6min before getting greeted and then another 6min before a server even comes once at the table. I just went on Feb 9, 2012 and the service was just as bad. What really got me mad about this visit was the fact that I ordered the 2 for $20 with an app of Spinach and Artichoke Dip, my gf got the Chicken Fettuccine Carbonara, and I got the Bruschetta Chicken. Well the manager brought out the app. Guess what there was only 10 full chips and the rest were crushed (no more than inch in size). He is the manager, how does he see that as acceptable!!!. Next came the entree's. The guy who brought it out saw we were done with our app, and left it there (it takes almost the entire table) and instead goes and takes some girls plate a few tables down. My Bruschetta Chicken didn't even come close to what it is supposed to look like! It looks like it was all put in a deep fryer and given to me. I have posted a picture of it. My gf's Chicken Fettuccine Carbonara was decent but missing the grape tomato's!. Lastly their healty selections contain transfat and are also about $3 more than a regular entree of the same thing.
