A wise friend of mine once said "Applebee's is aggressively mediocre" and I couldn't agree with him more. Tonight me and my friend went to Applebee's, for me it was the first time in years. To start off with, our server was great! She was very attentive and helpful. I can't remember her name, but if I did I'd definitely recommend her. Then we get to the food, my friend and I ordered off of the 2 of $27, which isn't a bad price. We had the honey bbq wings, and those were alright, the sauce wasn't amazing, but okay. Then I got the lime chicken with shrimp, and it was a tad burnt, but otherwise pretty decent. Then my friend got the 4 cheeses Mac and cheese, and I tasted some and the macaroni, and the cheese was pretty creamy, but not too awful. Honestly for what you're getting, the 2 for $22 or the 2 for $27 aren't bad prices at all! Then we get to how dirty the place was. It looked like it hadn't been swept all day and there was literally a pile of trash under our table! I would've rated this a 2/5 stars, but the great service knocked it up a notch. Whiskey burger, SAWDUST! ton of pickles (YUCK) no sauce on either sandwich...shrimp skewer, so tough we couldn't bite into it....called and got a simple 'Sorry, call Grubhub for a refund.' It's not Grubhubs fault! They did their part. My first and last attempt at Applebees. Manager was placating. He was nice, but really not much he can do. Stopped to pregame with the $1 Margs they had, it was my 5 or 6 time going, we ubered there and seat at the bar, AB the bartender was pretty quick with the first round, after that we asked if we could do doubles and he said sure, we continued to order a total of 2 doubles and one single, when asked for another round AB said we were going to fast and had to wait, so I looked on my Facebook as I checked in with the first margarita we had and it was posted a hour ago, I mean I understand it was 5 drinks but it had been a hour and he ordered a app. After receiving this news that we needed to wait longer, we decided to close our tabs and go home. My wife and I came in for a dinner date. Couple things I want to say is that the service was poor. I ordered the half rack ribs and it literally didn't have any meat on there and my wife ordered the steak. Wasn't cut or trimmed properly. Had a lot of fat on it. At the end of our meal we wanted to stay and drink a couple more but the server printed out our checks when we didn't even ask for a check. Since I'm a chef I think the kitchen manager needs to evaluate all of the food that is coming out of tHe window. I don't think we will come back again. read more

After driving around the west end, my husband I settled on Applebee's for dinner. I wasn't thrilled, because I look forward to going to non-chain restaurants on date night. I was hungry, so I said ok. The place was packed, and we were told 15 to 20 minutes for two. I saw four open tables of varying sizes so I wondered why so many people were waiting. My husband asked the host if we could sit at the open two top behind him and he said sure. I am not sure if any other parties of two were ahead of us, but we sat. Our waitress, Rachel, was very nice, but that is all it had going for them. I was seated directly next to an open bucket of water they were using to clean tables, not so appetizing. Drinks came slowly, she forgot to put in our appetizer (she says she put it in) and I was starving, so I was not happy when it never showed up. My dinner was ok, fried shrimp, that was definitely frozen, but this is Applebee's. the cole slaw had cilantro in it, which was weird. The fries were cold. Will not be coming back. read more

My mom, dad, and I went here for my parent's anniversary dinner. The atmosphere is nice. I ordered their ribs with a side of fries and redskin mashed potatoes. The fries tasted great and were seasoned very nicely. The mashed potatoes were a little lumpy, however I do not mind lumpy mashed potatoes. I also loved that they still had the red skin from the potatoes in the mash. The only problem I had was with my ribs. I think they may have been a bit too overdone because they were definitely not fall off the bone and I prefer my ribs to be fall off the bone. I definitely had to do some work to get the meat off. Will I return, more than likely yes, but I will stick to Dickey's when it comes to ribs. I will try Applebee's chicken tenders or a sampler/platter instead the next time I go. read more

It's been a while since I have been to Applebee's for dining in. I was looking for an inexpensive but good meal and landed here. I wasn't in the mood for appetizers, trying to sta fit where I can) I ordered a Malibu red tropical margarita... It was delicious but unlike its name.. It's not red.. It's a yellows color. Weird right? Needless to say it was good.. Just super sweet though. My entree was Bourbon Street chicken and shrimp. It wasn't as visually pretty as I like my food to be, but taste wise it was great. It has the spicy kick I like, and it was served piping hot ..and my all time favorite.. And I ordered a loaded baked potato.. Score! No room for desert.. I work nearby and this is the 2nd time I've ordered takeout. It will be my last visit to this terrible place. How in the name of all that's holy do you mess up a simple cheeseburger??? We picked it up today @ 4:30. When I opened the box for my cheese burger I was a little disappointed. I saw a gross cheesey mess, no lettuce or tomato and I had requested to NOT put their "Signature sauce" on it because I didn't know what it was. Yep, I assume that's what was on there, as it had a strange flavor and was brownish in color. Their was grease everywhere! I scraped off as much goop as I could, threw the bread away and thought, what the heck, presentation isnt everything. Proceeded to share it w/ my hubby. W/ in 30 mins mine and my husband were sick to our stomach. The last time I went there, a couple of months ago, I showed the manager the hot mess they had served and she gave a lame excuse and refunded me in full. Any business can have a bad day. I gave them another chance and they blew it. This time the food made us sick. Wow! There's no excuse for that. Short Pump is full of Wonderful places to eat. This isn't one of them. read more

We went to this Applebee's on a Saturday evening. It was moderately crowded, no wait. We were seated immediately and our waitress came and took our orders. She was fairly helpful. There was nothing above and beyond about the service but it was average. The food was good. We ordered appetizers and when she brought out the silverware for it all of it was dirty with stuck on food. They did seem to have a lot of staff on hand maybe more than what was necessary because a lot of them stood around. A couple of them were even fussing about a tip from a table nearby. Once it was time to leave a few employees were blocking the door talking even though they saw us standing there waiting to leave. All in all the experience was okay but don't expect bells and whistles. read more

Went to the Broad St location on Tues for dinner. Was glad to see all the employees were wearing masks and they were being diligent cleaning and disinfecting. But then I noticed they were seating customers who walked in without masks, including a family of 7 who seem to be celebrating a birthday. Only one person in the group was wearing a mask. We felt uncomfortable because it seems it's normal practice to allow customers without masks into the restaurant. We will not be returning. read more

Food was good but never received an appetizer that was ordered .When the meal came we cancelled the appetizer. When it came time to check out, we had two gift cards for $50.00 and gave a CC for the rest of the amount. After 10 minutes with my CC, I asked the hostess to check on it. Five minutes later the waiter came out with the CC to sign and there was the charge for the appetizer. Now another 10 minutes go by with my CC AGAIN!!! This Applebee's is my absolute favorite place to go. The food, atmosphere, and drinks were all immaculate. We were kindly greeted by a friendly waiter named Sean who became our friend for many years to come. Applebees by itself is amazing, but Sean made it perfect. I came in with high expectations, but saying that this Applebees exceeded those would be an understatement. As far as sleevers go...forget it. Actually even for non sleevers...forget it! I tried to order just a piece of salmon no sides no beverage except water and they were going to charge $11-$12 dollars!! O' Charleys charges me $6. Plus Applebee's salmon is greasy and fatty. I usually come to Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar for the appetizer special. On Sundays to Thursday night, Applebee's has half off appetizers. I usually try different appetizers. I ordered spinach & artichoke dip, sweet & spicy wings, and grilled chicken wonton tacos. The spinach & artichoke dip was good. The sweet & spicy wings were average. The grilled chicken wonton tacos were tasty. Applebee's also has some drink specials during this time. The Bahama Mama, margaritas, and Long Island iced tea are reasonably priced.This deal is good bang for your buck. The service is usually good unless it's busy. This location has some really cool decor. The decor is a collage of high school and college sports teams from the Richmond area. This Applebee's has a lively atmosphere. There's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. If you like appetizers, Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar is a good choice. read more

I got there at like 5:58 PM and happy hour ended at 6 PM and the server was super helpful trying to take all my happy hour orders. The manager even went to override it to make sure it went through. The manager was extremely friendly and even brought me my food. Very kind, great service. I have found that Applebees has really stepped their game up. We went on a double date and ate here 3/1/2014. It's Applebee's so you pretty much know what to expect. Service was good...not great. No real complaints in that aspect. We had the 2 for $20 deal, the Citrus Lime Sirloin, Chicken Tenders with Fries and the Mozzarella Sticks as our App. The other couple with us got the same thing. I was not impressed with my Citrus Lime Sirloin, not in the way it was cooked or presented, I just didn't like the taste. Not the restaurant's problem, mine. Just had lunch at Applebee's and I had the new Grilled Lemon Chicken. It was delicious !! Perfectly cooked chicken breast strips on a bed of rice with apples, cranberries, pecans and a sprinkle of quinoa. It was topped with the best lemon vinegarett, so it was a little sweet, a little tart. Perfect. Our server was tied up with a computer problem so another server was nice enough to take our order. 3 strikes and you are out. First time we went we were seated in the bar area not by our choice but we sat where they sat us, service was awful I guess because we weren't drinking mixed drinks, our waitress was more interested in serving those that were drinking mixed drinks, boyfriend got a burger and asked them to make sure the fries were hot when they brought them out, they were not hot they were warm at best and he said they tasted like they had been sitting for a while. We sat with empty drinks until we would say something to the waitress as she went by. 2nd visit was the worst, we were seated for about 10 minutes and no one had come by our table, I finally went back the hostess stand and asked if they could 1 get us something to drink and 2 let our waiter or waitress that we were ready to order, hostess brings us our drinks and tells us our waiter will be with us shortly, he shows up, we order, he is not paying attention and we could tell, he was looking over at another table, both of us said we bet our order is wrong, and it was, he got our order backwards all the toppings that I didn't want were on my burger and my boyfriend got a plan burger with no toppings that he had requested. He had again told them to make sure the fries were hot, they weren't. When the waiter brought us our food our drinks were empty, he didn't offer to fill them up, I again had to go to the hostess stand and ask them for more drinks. I get back to the table boyfriend says turn around and look at our waiter, he was sitting at a table with 5 girls sitting at it he was just flirting away. He did not check on us or bring us drinks until he brought us the check. And yes his tip did reflect his service to us, I think it was $.52 with a note that he needed to be more attentive to all of his customers and we only left he .52 because my boyfriend insisted on it. I didn't want to leave him anything. So this past Friday we go back again, I ordered a steak it was just okay, boyfriend ordered a burger and asked that the fries be hot they were not hot they were warm. When we ordered our drinks I asked for light ice, when we received them they were so packed with ice that we could barely get a straw in them. Next time around I asked for drinks with no ice, came the same way packed with ice. After we were served our food we didn't see our waiter again except for him to be walking by he didn't stop and say how is everything can I get you anything. I finally stop him and asked for more drinks we wait and wait I stop him again he says I can't get them right now because we don't have anymore clean glasses. What has happened to Applebee's?! To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. I ordered a margarita with sugar no salt, and it came out super salty...as if they may have even put salt in the bottom of the glass. Ordered the double crunch wings and they were under cooked to the point where the waitress took one look and took them back. The second batch came out better, but at the same time as our food which was nothing exciting. Ordered the steak stir fry, and considering it was part of their lighter flare it tasted "ok".
