I found Appliance Service Pro based on reviews on Yelp. Bill, the Appliance Pro, called me within a few minutes of my request for service. He was polite, friendly, and was able to come to fix my dryer within 2 hours. My Maytag front-loading dryer was making a loud screeching noise when I started it. At first it only happened occasionally, but recently it's happened every time I ran it. The dryer is 9 years old. (Dryers used to last 20 years, but that hasn't been true for a long time now.) Bill came on time, took apart my dryer and showed me exactly what the problem was--a failing bearing. He told me he could replace the part, but that the dryer is 9 years old, and he thought it would be better to replace the dryer. Note that Bill does not sell dryers--he could have replaced one or more parts and left me with a machine that still would be on borrowed time. He's an honest man. He also cleaned out a large amount of lint that had collected inside the machine, which is a fire hazard. I had hired another company to clean out lint twice before, but they only cleaned the line that leads to the outside of the house, not the inside of the dryer, something I hadn't understood. He recommended that we put a battery-operated smoke alarm in the laundry room in case we ever do get a fire from lint. He also recommended we buy inexpensive water leak detectors from Amazon to put on the floor near the washer in case we have a leak, so we would get a warning before our floors get damaged. Total cost: $99. Bill was at our house for almost an hour. Left my laundry room floor cleaner than he found it. I would definitely call him again. read more

I actually never got a chance to meet Bill in person or use Appliance Service Pro for repair, however, Bill called me directly after I scheduled an appt for repair of my washing machine. After giving him the details of my current washer, he told me that he would likely be unable to repair the unit because its parts were no longer sold or made. He said he would feel bad about coming out and looking at my washing machine and charging me a service fee, knowing full well he would be unable to fix it. He said that my best course of action would be to purchase a new washer. I greatly appreciated his honesty---he said that his purpose is to help people, not just make money. I told him that I understood that philosophy, as I am a veterinarian and do exactly the same thing---my goal as a vet is to help people and their animals, not make money. Ethical practice in appliance repair is alive and well with Appliance Service Pro---and while I didn't need them this time, I will undoubtedly call them again when I need help. Home depot wasn't able to install my new dishwasher because of some weird things the prior owner did that we couldn't really foresee ahead of time. I called Bill and he was able to come out the same day. It ended up being a much weirder/more complicated situation than we anticipated and he had to leave to take care of a couple other scheduled jobs, but he came back the same day, at the very end of his day, probably much later than he would have normally worked, to finish the job. I had already tested the outlet and the outlet still had power. He was able to assist me with locating the correct part as the original part was no longer made by LG. I called Bill at Appliance Service Pro last week because my 23 year old GE top load washer finally stopped working. He was very responsive and called me back and asked me tons of questions about the problem. He told me it was either a cheap and easy fix that I could do myself in ten minutes (I am not very handy), or...it was a broken timer part that is no longer available from any suppliers, meaning that my washer was a throw away! I said I would try it first, and Bill sent me a link to a couple of Youtube videos and then walked me through the short process to disassemble the knob and clip parts. As I described the condition of the parts, we determined that it was not repairable. I told Bill I wanted another top loader and he gave me some brand recommendations, based on his decades experience with servicing them.
