Let's start with... this cake was delicious, marble cake with banana filling. But they can't follow directions. I asked for purple, pink and blue frosting and dots but they gave me rainbow colored frosting and sprinkles. I needed a very special cake to celebrate my daughter's wedding. It had to have a plaid pattern using bright colors (she married a scot and it was Mexican fiesta theme party). I had a design so I went to several bakeries in my area to have it priced (including a very popular bakery located in my city). By far April's Pastries quoted the lowest and had a greater variety of flavors than the others. In addition, they didn't frost their cakes with that nasty buttercream that generally gets scraped off after being served. I went to pick up my cake 1/2 hour before the scheduled pick-up time - no problem. Within 10 minutes of my arrival the cake was ready and it was beautiful. Unlike anything I had see. Great craftsmanship, high attention to detail and well defined vivid colors. But the proof is in the pudding, as they say. In this case, the cake. And boy what a cake... Usually one gets one or two courteous "good cake", but not this time, I had many guests complimenting the cake and asking where I got it. You get what you pay for. If you value cost over quality, go to some supermarket and get one of their cakes. But if you want quality and a memorable cake go to April's. Just recently had my 1 year olds Sesame St. Themed bday party. Went to Aprils than to 2 other bakeries that would only do design in the cake book. I want extraordinary not something out of a book. Not something anyone else could order. Back to Aprils I went... I ordered the mocha and the orange. OMG! It was a hit...bam! Outta the park. According to this yelp they're only open for 6 hours anyway. Why do you open so late 11 am? Most people wiant to pick up their cake earlier when they have a party. I had to pick up the night before. I walked in not too long ago and bought a pineapple, coconut cake. It was so bland , no pineapple nor coconut flavor and the yellow cake was awful. I don't think it was fresh at all, had to toss it, money down the drain, $35. I immediately went to Northgate Market in Norwalk, they had Blueberry tres leches cake, Mango tres leches cake and pineapple. coconut tres leches and bought their pineapple, coconut tres leches, now that had flavor!!!! We are so pleased with this business. My mom first ordered a cake for my quinceañera there many years ago. The cake was not only elegant but delicious as well. Four years ago, I decided to get my own daughter's quinceañera cake there. It was gorgeous and more delicious than I remembered. All of our guests were very pleased. Their prices are slightly higher then your average bakery, but their taste is slightly better then your average bakery too. We sampled a chocolate cake, Guayaba cake (the BEST), and some cream filled vanilla type one. In the end we ended up going with a different vendor who did a cupcake tower for us, but we had a great tasting experience with April and we will definitely use them for a family party or something in the future. read more

Ordered a simple design knowing April's Cakes doesn't cover their cakes in fondant, which is exactly why I went with them. I was told they occasionally use fondant for small decor and the small symbol on top of my cake would be fondant. It wasn't. The color left MUCH to be desired and that was my main gripe. The image I provided was orange and what I received was a patchy, pale peach (at best). Would have been nice if I had been forewarned that the color was not achievable. Came in last week and I needed a simple white cake with pink and blue lettering saying "what will baby be" for my sister in laws gender reveal. When I picked up the cake the lady that help me with the pretty green eyes asked if she can add pink and blue polka dots to the cake.
