This restaurant used to be the best soul food restaurant on this side of town with impeccable customer service to match. You were either warmly greeted by the husband or his lovely wife. Something has changed dramatically in the quality of the food. The food does not taste the same and the freshness of the food has dissipated. My sister used to drive from Dunwoody to April's Place, just to order the baked chicken. She now states that the chicken is no longer tasty and has completely given up on this establishment. I have noticed that there are quite a bit of younger people working at this location now and I don't know if this has attributed to the decline of this business. I had given up on this place but, I had a craving for hot wings yesterday. April's Place wings were always on point. That is no longer the case, the wings were dry and not even the least bit hot. You could not taste any hot sauce on the wings. I really hope this restaurant gets back on track because it was such a gem on this side of town. Ok I saw someone post about the customer service and the cashier and you were right. She needs training on how to interact with others and not spend 20 minutes talking to everyone or choosing who you give special treatment to. This place and food is ok. Not to mention the cashier told me they were closed after being in the door waiting 30 minutes, took my order and told me she will ring me up later, to me waiting another 20 minutes waiting while my food was ready. My best friend recommended this place because I recently moved near by. After weeks of driving by before work I finally decided to go in on a Sunday. First off, walking in just felt so homey, I love how it's set up and it smelt amazing in there. Secondly, the first person I saw was the cutest little girl, she points at the menu and says "this is the front, that's the back. Just let me know when you're ready". Of course you can almost throw a rock in Georgia and hit a soul food place. This is probably true in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and the rest of the South. It's just an undeniable fact that makes it hard for one soul food restaurant to stand out from another. Especially with self-proclaimed purists like myself walking around. But this one I like. So far (as entrees) I've had the smothered pork chops, the smothered chicken and... the one tiny bite of BBQ turkey rib that my wife was willing to part with. :-) All were very good. Very well cooked and bursting with flavor like soul food is supposed to. As far as the sides were concerned, I had the mac & cheese and collard greens both times. Both were good, but I know that they would be even better if they weren't sitting in buffet-style chafing dishes all day. I understand though that this is for the purpose of speedy service. I went to the Thornton Rd location and was verrrrry disappointed. They are priced very well and the staff was SUPER NICE however the food was awful i had lemon pepper baked chicken collard greens and mac and cheese it was soooooooo salty EVERYTHING my mom and I couldn't finish our food we had to toss it and i hate wasting food. My overall experience: The staff (including the owner) are friendly, but appear to be quite unorganized or maybe the better word is "unprepared." They seem to be out of stock of many things including, but possibly not limited to (food items listed on the menu, forks, condiments, condiment containers, condiment lids etc). The "cook" said I was the 3rd customer they had yesterday and I went in around 5:30pm (they open @ 11am). Everything about this place is a disappointment, aside from the kindness of the staff. When I visited, they were out of all the desserts I wanted to order. We ordered the macaroni and cheese, which tasted like absolutely nothing. The staff had no qualms about giving us another side as compensation, which was nice and the sole reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one. I had chicken and waffles, and the waffles, topped with syrup and powdered sugar, strangely tasted of cumin. Definitely not a combination of flavors you want in your mouth. The chicken was mediocre, but not terrible. It did take awhile to cool off, because initially it was too hot to eat. In the end, everything was just painfully mediocre. I can't even say it was awful. I'm more upset about how utterly disappointed I was than anything. I saw mixed reviews for this place before I came here and said "well maybe it isn't that bad." I was wrong. Don't be like me. I've been a fan of April's Place for some time and I'm just remembering to review this hidden gem. I'm not sure how long the business has been tucked away in this strip but I'm so glad I found it. I was craving some oxtails and instead of cooking them I knew where I could get craving fix, April's Place. I can't say that I've had a bad meal here and everything has always been hot and freshly prepared. I've tried almost every dinner item on their menu and they've all been very pleasing dishes. I generally order my Sunday dinners from here when I absolutely do not feel like cooking. The only negative I have is that the food is a bit salty for my liking. I don't cook with salt, only to taste, and after some time it becomes a bit much for me. If you want a really great Southern style meal, do yourself a favor and checkout April's Place. Where do I start? I was in town visiting family for the holidays. My sister and I were tired of eating leftovers but didn't want fast food either. Decided to use Uber Eats for the first time and this place came up. The menu for April's Place looked good so decided to give it a try. Ordering process seemed easy enough. However, once the order was complete (and now they have my money), I received a call immediately to inform me that they were out of several things. After working our way through substitutions, the order was on its way. The driver arrived and handed me a decent size bag and was on his way (quickly). I ordered 2 rice delights with a side salad. I didn't receive the salad for either order. I also ordered the blacken fish with shrimp sauce and did not receive this item at all. After calling April's Place and speaking to what I assume was a teenage girl, I was giving the following options...call Uber to get my money back, come up there to get the order (what's the point of delivery if you have to go get your food), or wait until the 30th until she got HER check and she would reimburse me herself. No, no, no! Eventually I was hung up on. I didn't yell or use profanity. I was just demanding a more logical solution on how to either get the food I paid for or be reimbursed for the items I didn't receive. 2 stars only because the rice delight was a decent size and was actually pretty good.
