They have chilaquiles! One of my breakfast favorites. First time I've had it and it didn't come with eggs. I think it needs eggs to give that runny yolk in the sauce. Otherwise, it came with a lot of tender shredded beef and a deep red sauce. It could be a touch spicer, but that's my preference and why salsa is good. We also got rolled tacos that tasted like my mom's. It gave me nostalgia feelings. Came with all the toppings where other places you have to add with an extra cost. Their pricing is pretty on par with other places, maybe a touch more. But they're not a massive chain so I'm happy to pay extra to support. I'd order from them again. read more

Several people have told us that this place has the best Sonoran hot dogs on the eastside, so when we had out of town guests, we stopped by to give them a try. They were ok, but I didn't think they were spectacular. And for $5, I wasn't overly impressed. It did come with a bacon-wrapped roasted pepper which was good. One of our party got chicken nachos instead and they were very flavorful and had a generous portion. The price tag for those was around $16 though, which feels steep for nachos. I'm not sure we'll go back very often, but I'm glad the place has a loyal following. read more

We've driven by Jason's Mexican Food hundreds of times, since we have to pass it on our way anywhere. Since I had a busy day planned and didn't want to squeeze in making dinner, I decided to pick up burritos on my way home. Knowing my husband as I do, I ordered the Arizona burrito which is carne asado, potato, pico de gallo, and guacamole. I chose the Texano: shredded chicken, potato, pico de gallo, and sour cream. I added cheese for an extra $.75. I rolled up to the window and the cashier announced the total of $29. Wow! Fast food burritos are usually in the $5 to $6 range. I exchanged money for the burro bag, which was quite heavy. My dismay lessened and my expectations rose and I took my bounty home. We sat down to eat. First note was the lovely flour tortilla - thin and soft and tasty. The next note was the huge size of the burros, which was a clear signal to cut them in half to save for tomorrow's lunch. Carne asado poured out of the cut Arizona burro. So much meat! But there was little evidence of the other ingredients: a smear of guac, a few shreds of cheese, and a couple chunks of potato. The components were not distributed well, and although the meat was plentiful and flavorful, it was decidedly chewy. Definitely not the way to impress the hub. When I cut the Texano, the amount of shredded chicken was almost overwhelming. However, the chicken was tender but not particularly flavorful. Potato and sour cream were present, but the cheese was nowhere in sight, and more pico would have added flavor and broken the monotony. So, giant portions, huge prices, below average food. We are not likely to return. read more

I haven't had a hotdog in decades, but during the last 2 weeks I kept hearing others talk about eating Sonoran hotdog from this business...so... I stopped in and bought one. It is loaded with all that was advertised... see photo of wall menu. It was good and tasty. I just wished the hotdog was hot, temperature-wise. I can understand the joy of eating this food. Updated review! Still love this place. Every once in a blue moon there will be an inconsistency but for the most part it's always spot on and delicious! I highly recommend the bean and cheese burrito. The asada meat here is huh quality. I always order toritos which are bacon wrapped peppers with cheese inside. (they always give you one of those peppers with a Sonoran dog order). Their Raspados are great too. This is my favorite drive-through Mexican place. read more

Looks like a typical Mexican drive through but there are little benches and chairs outside as well as an indoor area. Drive through is also an option. They have solid burritos, would recommend the fish and the carne asada. Also got a Mangoyada and Horchata. My car died immediately after my order but it was worth it. The Mangoyada has mangoes chamoy tamarind and chili and is one of the best summer drinks out there. Would prefer if there were more fresh mangoes in it though for the price. A medium is about 6 dollars. Also, all card purchases have a 50 cent charge. read more

This was such an unexpected delicious dinner! I've been in Tucson for a while now but just had the pleasure Of trying Jason's Mexican food. The ordering process was smooth and simple..we used the drive thru. This looks like it used to be an old Sonic. I will say from the passenger Side of the car it's kind of hard to see the menu.. But we figured it out and ordered a Sonoran style dog, and a chipilon omg delicious. It came with a bacon wrapped, cheese stuffed pepper?! Wow. I also had the corn cocktail (corn n a cup) which was PERFECT. Wife's choice of 3 hard tacos sealed the deal. Beans and rice were good. Tortilla was even good but the meat was dry and nasty. The carne asada tasted like it had been out for a week and reheated multiple times. Blech. Last night my husband picked up burritos from Jason's. This is our go to drive thru for fast Mexican food and it never disappoints! I always get the shredded beef and its always so flavorful and tender, but last night it was exceptionally so. There was no fatty pieces (there's another popular drive thru on the east side that I would never ever order meat from again Nico's) In addition Jason's gives really nice portions and the pico was nice and fresh. Their hot salsa usually burns the s**t out of my mouth (which doesn't stop me from eating it) but last night the guy making it must not have been angry or sad. read more

I've just moved here from California and I was happy to see many Mexican food options. The drive thru is easy to maneuver and the food was made quickly. This rating is mainly for pricing. While the food has remained good, the unbelievable price increases are comical even in this economy. As of today. 5 rolled tacos (tiny taquitos) and 1 large Coke cost $16.83. Unfortunately I have to tap out for Jason's. There are just too many other taco stands and other Mexican restaurants that dont have the ludicrous prices that are charged here. Very sad because I know these prices will be their downfall. Wow $14 for a carne asada burrito!!! Not worth the price at all. I expected much less gristle in the meat considering the price. Plus they charge you a fee for using a card, get with the times. I gave this a second chance. First time the food was awful in both taste and price, but I figured I would give another try. The prices are far too high for the low quality food they serve. It'll easily cost you $45 for a family of four to eat one burrito a piece and a drink. No rice or beans! The food is still trash. Old tortillas that would crumble at the edges, watery beans, and super chewy and tough steak. When the best tasting item they have is the salsa, that's not good. If you love Sonoran Hot Dogs and you live on the east side, this is the place for you. They're as good as El Guero Canelo, I think. Steamed buns, bacon-wrapped dogs, pinto beans, pico de gallo, mayo, mustard, and then a salsa bar to top it with other stuff. I think their dogs are a little bigger than Canelo's, and you get a bacon-wrapped roasted pepper too - all that for $3.75. Their little patio is great for nice weather, too. read more

The care asada burritos are on point! The food is fresh, hot and juicy. Our burro's were filled full of juicy freshly marinated meat. No fatty pieces or other "fillers" in this burrito. The customer service is good & the orders are accurate. We just ate here for the first time and we can't wait to come back to try everything else on the menu. My experience here has been disappointing for a choice of Mexican fast food. However the Sonoran dogs are amazing. They match the El Guero dogs, so if you're in the area these are a good bite. The rest of the food is VERY bland and disappointing. The tacos are small and very shallow with toppings. The worst is the chicken used on the tostadas and tacos. It is clearly chicken from a pouch and reeks of that gross pouch juice. The chicken almost has a tuna quality to it. The only value here for me are the dogs; which I'll return for. If I am correct, this place is affiliated with the food cart you will find parked on 22nd St. Maybe so, but the prices seem higher than I remember paying at the mobile venue. I guess the whole overhead thing makes that necessary. I did not try the snacks that Rich speaks of. Had I read his review before I went I would have likely tried either one (maybe both) of the unpronouncables he mentioned. What I did try: Sonoran Dog - what I remembered that set their Sonoran dog apart (assuming they are affiliated with the food cart) was the yellow pepper they serve with it. Wrapped in bacon, stuffed with cheese and deep fried. I had talked it up to my buddy but when he got his dog, it was MIA. He asked me with a sad look on his face, "Where's the chile?" When I got my dog; same thing, no pepper. So I asked. The guy headed over to the fryer basket that had just come from the oil and pulled out two. My first notion was not to tell my buddy and keep them both for myself. Nah.. you never come between a man and his freshly fried pepper wrapped in pork product! Caramelo - Mexican cheese and carne asada stuffed between two flour tortillas and tossed on the grill. The Sonoran dog was fine. My buddy commented that it's better than EGC. But, again, the star was that pepper. Too bad we had to beg for them. I wonder how many people missed out because they didn't know they were supposed to get them. The caramelo was kind of bland, as were the salsas. I also got a couple of pieces of gristle. That's a little irritating to me. The fact that is was small, there wasn't much meat in it anyway and it was four bucks didn't help either. I'll probably go back and try the drive through, which was pretty busy on our lunch visit, but I doubt I will order carne asada again and definitely make sure I get that pepper! read more

Well. The ratings made me visit and the experience makes me wonder what in the world the others saw in this place that I didn't. Filthy is the top description followed by dirty, jerry-rigged and over priced. The poster restaurant for "If you can't do it right, don't do it at all." The Carne Asada burrito was good but not worth the risk of how dirty this place was. They didn't offer a crispy taco plate but offered a soft taco plate. Crispy tacos don't come with rice and beans. That's extra. Salsa bar was empty and the tray holding the only two remains portion cups had Droid food in it. This place is the Halloween store of restaurants. 'Look, there's an I'll equipped building at the right price. Let's open there!" The room divider separating the almost-dining area and a tore room was falling off the track and broken, one trash can with an opening that wouldn't accommodate the Styrofoam containers you are given. I almost took my trash with me out of guilt. I commend anyone trying to start a business but make an attempt to do it right. Keep it clean and safe and do all you can to make a happy customer. If you cant, maybe you should try something else. read more

Jason's Mexican Food doesn't look like much, being located in the shell of a former Sonic (and Kenny D's). Their only seating is outdoors and it looks like standard Mexican street food. That's what I get for judging a book by its cover. The menu is pretty straight-forward and while everything looked really good, I settled on a Sonoran hot dog and a carne asada taco. The food came up quickly, and it looked pretty awesome. I'll admit that sitting outside is never my first choice, but the weather is nice this time of year and it worked out pretty well. I think if it were summer, I would take the food to-go. I ate the Sonoran hot dog first, and it was one of the best I've had. The bun wasn't as chewy as some others, and the mustard and mayonnaise were in such abundance that they dripped from the bun. But the hot dog was cooked perfectly, and the bacon was just right. And the wax pepper on the side was also wrapped in bacon, like a special savory/spicy treat. The carne asada taco was good, too. I should probably have grabbed some salsa for it from the salsa bar, but I didn't think of it. The rice and beans on the side were ok, if not anything special. All in all, I thought Jason's was a pleasant surprise and it's nice to have good Mexican street food in this part of town. I would definitely go back for another Sonoran hot dog, and perhaps to try more of their menu. read more

After years of terrible customer service, extremely long wait times, and more orders wrong than right, I'm over Jason's. We would put up with it for the food, but not anymore. Today we went and waited in the drive-thru for 45 minutes. 25 minutes in, when we got to the window, we asked if the food was done (because we didn't want to wait any longer), and they told us yeah, it was ready to go. They then proceeded to have us pay for the food and then wait an ADDITIONAL 25 minutes in the parking lot waiting - EVEN THOUGH WE ASKED IF IT WAS READY. When called out about it, the dude at the front got a major attitude denying how long we'd been waiting. Terrible customer service and just awful all around. Will never, ever return. Should've never came back in the first place when we'd see how unkempt the place always is. Lesson learned. read more
