I have been searching for a hair salon in the South Bay since because I was tired of having to drive to the westside. Read so many reviews about AR Salon and finally booked an appointment online. I wanted warmer colors in my long, dark hair but I also wanted a more natural look. Heather took the time to look at my hair and sit dow to chat with me. She did an AMAZING job and Arnil went out of his way to pitch in which made my first experience at AR Salon even more WONDERFUL because they really make you feel SPECIAL. The color and cut that Heather gave me turned out beautiful and I have been given so many compliments. I ended up giving the AR Salon's number out at least seven times in the last 1 1/2 days because my friends were asking if I had done anything differently. Needless to say, I don't need to look any further for a great salon in the South Bay. I know there are to many options but I also know that they will always do a FANTASTIC job. I have been going here for about two years for haircuts. Ashley and Summer are both great - they know what they're doing and offer great tips on how to keep you hair looking great and healthy. My hair always looks great after I leave there! Plus, they are fun to talk to. My only negative is that the receptionist isn't friendly. I had my boyfriend call for an appointment - both Ashley and Summer were booked so she offered another stylist, but failed to mention that this person was a master stylist and had a higher fee. He was incredibly upset when he found out how much he had to pay. I think they should be required to tell you if you're not getting a stylist at the same price point that you request. It's street parking so bring quarters for the meters! read more

I'm always happy with my haircuts from AR Salon. You can easily book online from a desktop computer, or call if you need an appointment last minute. If I let them know I'm in a hurry, they can get me in and out in 45 minutes (even though I have long hair). read more

This is an overarching review as I've been coming hear for over 17 years. I wont single out any stylist as there is a rotation, but Arnold, who owns the place sure knows how to pick them. He's a photographer and hairdresser by training, so he has a keen eye for talent and style. I really haven't had a bad haircut here. Parking can be tough, but you're right on the beach so who cares. Love love this salon! I needed a quick trim before my flight later that night. Luckily, they squeezed me in and had the pleasure of sitting in Kate's chair. I was a nervous wreck, for many reasons. 1) my flight was that night 2) leaving town for a wedding and I was the maid of honor 3) my hair was bleached damaged and have been maintaining before it would completely fall off. I've gone to AR salon three times and never been disappointed. Most recently, I went to Jenny for a cut and she did such a good a job that I booked an appointment for blonde highlights/balayage just two weeks later. She did an incredible job! The highlights are so soft and natural. I've seen JD for color and Madison for highlights as well, both did a great job! The whole place has a chill but professional vibe. Usually the owner's sweet dog is around and they're quick to offer you a drink or check you in. read more

Lexi is the most amazing stylist I've had. She's been doing my hair for about 5 years now and she never ceases to amaze me. Her customer service skills are great she's incredibly friendly and always listens to and delivers exactly what I request and exceeds my expectations!! This locations is also great - just a block from the beach and you have great views while getting your hair done. My husband and my sons are regularly getting haircuts at the AR Salon and they always look great. Madison is so very sweet with my 6 yr old, he enjoys the haircut and barely even moves. She always makes sure he loves his new style. She also styled my husband a couple of times and I loved the result. He even went in there one time to a get blue permanent color out of his normally blond hair. I forgot the name of the guy who rescued him, but he was able to get him to a neutral, darker blonder color in one appointment! Everyone is very friendly and really listen to what the customer wants! I don´t go to the hairdresser very often, but I had one appointment with Suzy. She did a great job in trimming my super long hair, cutting only what needed to be cut and she gave my beautiful soft layers and a hairstyle that was very easy to style and maintain at home. Exactly what I needed! The salon just got an update and it looks even cooler now. We love the convenient location on the Hermosa Ave. Walking distance from our home and basically on the beach. Everytime I am there to keep my boys company, or to get myself a haircut, AR, the owner is there too. He always makes sure everything is running smoothly and is very nice and attentive. I also really, really love their very convenient online reservation tool. Unlike many other locations, it works every single time. I don´t have time to waste and this is just great! My most memorable experience at the salon was when my mom got breast cancer and she had started her treatment. It was time to shave her head. As you can imagine, very emotional, heavy moment. As visitors to Hermosa Beach in December 2019 my daughters and I stumbled upon this magnificent salon! It was a not so great day weather wise on a quick trip from PA to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday. Walking past she said, "I should go there and get my hair colored" to which I said "let's see if they can take you".... they were able to and it ended up being one of our favorite moments of the trip! Everyone there was kind and extremely knowledgeable. My daughter went from a worn out blonde back to her natural dark color and looked gorgeous. My younger daughter, who was not getting anything done has very curly hair that Arnil graciously offered us great tips for her hair, gave her a sample of homemade oil and spontaneously trimmed it for her. Both girls left with huge smiles on their faces and continue to talk about their fantastic experience at this salon. To top it off Arnil took a great photo of us! I can't say enough good about the experience we had and the price $ was very reasonable. I'd have paid more and would not have thought twice!! In the time we were there we also met other customers that were so friendly! They all walked out with great cuts and color. It was fun watching these talented stylists at work! Let me start off by saying that after I read the previous reviews, I was in shock. I've been coming to AR Salon for a year now and have never seen or been treated like that. The main reason I started seeing Arnil was because I loved the way my old co-workers hair looked. It was always perfect! I asked her where she went and with whom and she told me about Arnil and AR salon. I've been hooked ever since. I'm not kidding when I say this, but every time I leave there, I feel like I just went on that old show "Extreme Makeover." I come in after letting my hair grow out too long between cut and color and leave looking like a VS model. Haha. Seriously best hair salon and stylist ever! Arnil is hard to get a booking for, but I've been told that he personally trains all of the other stylists before he hires them on, so any of them would be great too! read more

Arnil went beyond my expectations of a hairstylist. Last Saturday I had a wedding to attend and called earlier during the week for an appointment. Arnil was completely booked, but made time to not only do my hair but also my mother's hair. He covered my gray roots and made my frizzy curly hair look smooth and healthy. Tasha, one of his stylists made sure my big bouncy beach curls would last all night. He also cut and styled my mom's curly dry hair. We usually never walk out of a salon completely happy because our hair is difficult to style, we were thrilled with the results. Arnil made it seem easy and we got so many compliments! Warning! If you'd like a head full of burns, this is the place for you! After reading that AR Salon got Best of the Beach, I decided to give it a try. I had been going to Manhattan Beach but wanted to find a new place. I dye my hair lighter blonde and this stylist was doing it by dying the hair not actually bleaching it. After the dye was on and I was sitting under the heat, it started to burn a bit. I went and told the stylist who looked at it and said it was fine. I asked if it could burn my scalp and she assured me that it could not. I should have trusted my instincts and not the "professional". As I waited in the chair counting down the seconds, someone comes in and begins trying to sell my stylist coupons to a dry cleaning place down the street. She proceeded to continue to talk to him while I sat 5 feet away "ehem-ing" after my timer went off and with my head feeling really irritated. We wash out the dye, she says my scalp is absolutely fine and I head out. Later that night, I leaned my hand against my head and realize I have disgusting burns oozing on my scalp! The next morning I call the salon to let her know/complain/ask for a refund. The stylist instead tells me to put conditioner on the burns on my head. Thanks honey but since you can't even dye hair correctly, I'll get my medical advice elsewhere! I asked flat out for a refund and she laughed about it. I called her out on laughing and pointed out that she specifically told me it couldn't burn me, and that she had kept me waiting while she talked to that guy and bought her own personal coupons. She nervously laughed and told me she'd talk to the manager and call me back. Shockingly that call never came. Save yourself the hassle and pain and go anywhere else! read more

It was a cold and rainy monday morning. All that I could really think about was staying in my warm bed and cuddling with my baby boy, but I was advised earlier by my significant other to keep this specific day open and available because he had a special surprise for me. Boy, was I in for a treat! We live in orange county so, we had a little bit of a commute to get to the salon. The moment we arrived, i was pleasantly captivated by the breathtaking view of the ocean. Wow! Talk about prime location! As we entered the salon, we were cordially greeted by the one and only, Mr. Arnil. I immediately scoped out the decor. It was clean, modern, open, airy, classy, and tasteful. I was scheduled for a 9am appointment, and he promptly started to work on my hair AT NINE AM. Talk about punctuality! I thought that was pretty awesome. =) I had very long, drabby, dark, and "blah" hair. I was at a point where i just wanted to either always tie my hair up in a bun or have it all down-- plain jane. I was missing something. I needed that umph! So, as i was venting to Arnil my hair woes, he recommended that I do balayage. It was a very long process, but I immediately knew as I watched him work on my hair that he was creating one of his many masterful pieces. He was very focused and detailed and knowledgeable about his craft. I asked questions about hairstyling and his background and work experiences, and much to my surprise, it turned into an inspirational conversation. I began to feel privelaged just to be sitting in his chair. Anxiety built up as he was finishing up with the styling and blowdrying of my hair. The moment he turned my chair to face the mirror, I was in awe. I never imagined myself to pull off such an extravagant hairstyle, but Arnil reassured me from the beginning, and he definitely delivered. My boyfriend gave me a look that I haven't seen in a while. I felt like I had a total makeover. I felt like a different person. I felt like I wanted to change my name. My name is Janice, but for now... you can call me Candace. =) Haha! I've visited many different salons. I've met many GOOD stylists, but there are very few GREAT stylists out there. Arnil is one of the few. Thank you for your time, your effort, your creativity, your passion, and your words. This wasn't just another haircut visit to a salon; It was a transformation and an experience. I used to be a regular at AR Salon, so I won't give them a hugely negative review. I left after many years because 1) price was too high, and 2) I kept asking for changes in color and style, and ran into resistance from the stylist. The stylist seemed attached to the board-straight, blown dry style that was popular at the time. It is a good place to go for a competent hair style, especially if you go to Arnell, the owner. The rest of the stylists seemed to consist of a constantly rotating cast of young women, and there was always some kind of drama going on; the client was always the trapped audience. read more

I had the absolute best experience getting my hair cut by JD. He was very careful when cutting my hair to ensure that he didn't cut off too much. He added the perfect layers to my hair which gave it tons of volume and texture. I have had so many bad experiences at "high end" salons and for once I left completely happy with my hair! Shannon does an excellent job.... She is very thorough and professional and really takes pride in her work. Always tries to accomodate her clients but also has made some good suggestions for different styles.
