Extremely disappointing first experience. I came to this restaurant for the first time, sat down, and waited 15-20 minutes for someone to take my order. During that entire time, the employee never brought me a menu, offered me a drink, or made any effort to serve me. The restaurant was nearly empty--there were only four other customers, and they were already eating--so being busy was clearly not the issue. Instead of welcoming and assisting a new customer, the employee chose to focus on selling wallets near the display case while I sat there completely ignored. I came in ready to eat and spend money, but after being treated like I was invisible, I simply left. No matter how good the food may be, it does not matter when a customer cannot even get a menu. If the staff is this uninterested in serving customers, then it is hard to understand why the restaurant is even open. A terrible first impression and definitely my last visit. LONG over due review. I have featured this restaurant in my Food Reviewing Dungeon Meshi panel that I hold at anime conventions for their hearty traditional Mongolian stews! Unique, traditional Mongolian dishes with wonderful service. It's so cool that you can see that the restaurant is a hub of culture and community as well. SoCal Mongolian community loves Arag. They have karaoke nights and other events that support the community (I think an attorney who works with the Mongolian community does events here too), so that's always a plus in my book. Love all of the traditional decor and knick knacks here as well as the M-pop and music videos that they play on TV too. We managed to find free parking nearby, so it is possible. For our later lunch, we got the: 1) Mongolian Hot Tea: -This was a salted milk tea when I had it. Very unique and the slight saltiness with the sweet milky taste is refreshingly different from other places. Definitely a bit of an acquired taste but I like it whenever I have it. 2) Deep Fried Flat Dumplings (Khuushuur): -Comes with 3 pieces, it's deep fried dumplings with your choice of protein in a crispy dough shell. We got the lamb offal since it's the most unique one that they had. I don't usually eat organ meat but this wasn't too iron-y or ammonia tasting like other times I've had organ meats and was seasoned to perfection. No weird texture either. -Every culture has some form of dumpling/hot pocket-esque food that is delicious and super easy to eat. This is a popular street food in Mongolia and you can easily see why. Moist delicious seasoned meat in a crispy dough shell? Say no more. -Comes with a small side of their slaw salad. 3) Smoked Stir-Fried Noodles with Beef Brisket: -This was our "main" entree with carbs and protein. -It's smoked Tsuvian (actual name of the dish) with traditionally prepared hand pulled and pan fried noodles, made with beef brisket and julienne carrots, zucchini, and homemade salted chives. -It's a simple dish you can find in many other cultures but the seasoning, the way the noodles are prepared, makes it delicious in it's own way. Perfect for those who want to try something new, but don't want to dive off of the deep end so quick. 4) Steamed Soup/Bituu Shul: -This is a traditional sealed soup with tender mutton, slow cooked in a sealed pot with wild herbs, garlic, and ginger. -Super unique dish and very eye catching. Seeing this on the menu I had to get it. You can drum the top of the dough with your spoon like a drum. Pretty fun! -It's a very flavorful broth soup that has a strong flavor of lamb and herbs. Perfect for a cold day or if you're feeling a bit under the weather. The dough pieces make for nice "pasta like noodles" for the soup. Lots of lamb meat pieces in it too. Definitely recommend, but next time I want to get borscht too since it's one of my favorite soups. A must for unique and delicious food! read more

Very interesting and unique menu! This was my second time ordering; the first time I tried the dumpling soup, and this time I went for the jumbo meatballs. Placing an order for pickup (even when dining in) during lunch hours saves a lot of time. There's also plenty of seating available. Parking is tricky. Dont know where to start but i know i have to leave review here so they can improve their service/business as an only Mongolian restaurant in LA. I ve been to many mongolian restaurants in US and Korea before So i cant help but express my disappointment here. Starting off with service, every time i bring my foreign friends here, they leave surprised with how the server looks so down and moody. It makes the whole restaurant look boring and depressed. Noted, no one wants to come back for a bad customer service. Food wise, they have nice presentation, but please improve your quality and taste. The gulyash we ordered was unchewable and had bland flavor. Add some salt or something that can bring the heartwarming, authentic "goulyash" flavor and cook it slow because that is what i literally came for. The rice was cold and dried on top, i wonder if it was freshly cooked. The food was still as bad as last year. Never change. The salad was also very bland lacking salt or pepper honestly nothing special. The most boring salad I ever had. This place needs to improve to show people how delicious Mongolian meal is. I went right after getting a Pedicure at Pink Nail [by Sarah] in Ktown as the technician was Mongolian [and Korean?], called "Helen" I forgot what the name of the dishes (pictures attached tho) I tried but both were delicious. I figured Mongolian food had lamb more so tried those. The tea was ordered as our server told us there was a Mongolian tea...honestly it just tasted like warm milk... no tea flavor at all...though it was supposed to be with tea. The deep fried dish was super good. So much juice inside. Be careful you don't squirt it out. The meatballs were good as well. Very juicy n full of flavor. The sauce was great. I'd recommend both these dishes..the deep fried one more than the other. It seems if u check in u get a % discount. I was going to use it but totally forgot. Either way it was affordable n not too high. They were a lil slow in service even if there were a total of 3-4 tables. Maybe it's because only 1 lady in front n 1 lady in back cooking? I've never called a restaurant after I started eating to tell them how much I was enjoying their food. Every bite of every dish made me gasp So delicious! The ambiance of the restaurant is very cozy and welcoming as well. The people working there are extremely kind and polite as well. It's a homely atmosphere. I see tons of regulars enjoying meals here again and again. Of course, I'm about to become one of those regulars too... The portions are also generous for the price. They keep very well too. This is the only real Mongolian cuisine in the area that reliably has the delicacies such as hushuurs and buudz. Make no mistake these are traditional dishes like I and my family are used to having. The portions are big and the taste is exceptional. The service is friendly too and being Mongolian very easy to get along with . Admittedly we came late but it is still very good. Also do not expect some high end ambiance it is very functional and while more of "hole in the wall" it is very comfortable and friendly. If you ever want to try genuine Mongolian cuisine this place cannot be passed up. Try it and you will love it! If you're looking to try authentic Mongolian cuisine, this is a hidden gem! It was my first time here so I asked the waitress for her recs and chose two of her recs and they were both good. The Tefteli (meatball) dish is a must try in my opinion. It tastes home made and fresh and healthy, but also has a lot of flavor. The beef soup with glass noodles was very hearty with a lot of filling and was perfect for the cold weather. I enjoyed every bite here! Had my Mongolian friend introduce me to this place before when it was known as Golden Mongolian. Happy that with new leadership, the restaurant reopened and is in this community. Food tastes really good, hearty, and homemade. I highly recommend the deep-fried dumplings khuushuur! Also, do not forget the mongolian hot tea. The milk tea is not what you would think it is, but it's savory and warm. I've got to come back and try the rest of their menu! Ordered the Bento Box and it was really good! I got the beef one. Good amount of food for the price. The beef and rice were good. The salad was fresh and the avocado was nice and fresh. Dressing was really good too. Good veggie roll as well! I love that they included 2 yellow peppers! Service was great too. The server was very helpful and recommended the meatball dish and the lamb dumpling soup. My friend and I split both, and even had leftovers -- it was so much food and very reasonably priced! The lamb soup was my favorite. The broth was so rich and flavorful, and both dumplings and lamb meat were generous helpings. It was the perfect hearty, warming soup for a chilly day. The meatballs came with plenty of sauce, really good potato salad, cucumbers, tomatoes and rice. The potato salad and sauce paired so well with the meatballs! Also, the meatballs themselves were enormous! The place is small and casual, with a cozy and welcoming vibe. There were Mongolian music videos playing, which was pretty cool to see! I have been binge watching ARTGER youtube channel for awhile now so I found this lone authentic Mongolian place in Greater LA area. So we made the drive from OC to this place and came away impressed. The food here far exceeded our expectations. The khuushuur has a very nice crispy outside layer with a flavorful and juicy beefy filling. The buuz is excellent with a thick wrapper and flavorful and also juicy filling. Tsuivan did not disappoint as it tastes as good as it looks. My very first intro to authentic Mongolian food and it did not disappoint. I've had Russian cuisine before and definitely noticed the influences with borscht soup and goulash being on the menu. Many people associate Mongolian food with the likes of Genghis Khan's customizable stir-fries mixed with vegetables and sauces cooked on massive oily grills. However here, only traditional dishes are served. My party each ordered something different in order to try a variety of meals. I enjoyed each and every single one. My friends found the food to be less salty than what they were accustomed to. After reading up more about this cuisine, I found out that the use of spices are limited. I personally found it to my taste but I don't utilize much salt in my cooking and no sugar at all. I will unquestionably be back and suggest others to come as well. Maybe next time I'll muster up the courage to try the khorkhog. read more
