Definitely a hidden gem in Los Angeles. Not your fancy restaurant, but a hole-in-the-wall that I'm so thankful that I found. It's also a mom-and-pop shop which I am more than happy to bring my business here. This place is considered a Korean-Chinese style restaurant where their dishes are known for their jja-jjang-myun (black bean noodles) or the jjamppong (hot and spicy noodle soup). My husband and I usually go to a Ktown chain to get this dish but my heart is set on coming back here for my fix. It's definitely a small restaurant in a plaza that has a good amount of parking. I was able to find a spot easily and so did my friend. I also noticed there was ample street parking as well so parking shouldn't be a problem. As you walk in, it's a very old school, run restaurant where they have wooden menu's and an A/C box running, with an old school tv. Two elderly gentlemen came out with a tea for our drink and then we ordered the black bean noodles (plain) and a stir fried version of it as well as the hot, spicy soupy noodle dish (my favorite). Oh and a happy family seafood dish to share with a friend, my husband, and me. Mind you the portions are pretty decent for what it's worth and had a good amount still by the time we were all done eating. I liked everyone one of the dishes especially the stir fried version of the black bean noodles and the spicy soup. I ate it growing up as a child and it brought back those memories. The soup isn't too spicy anyone who is concerned of spice levels. And I really liked the happy family seafood dish. I never ordered something like that before but my husband had mentioned it's a premium dish that you normally eat with the jja-jjang-myun (black bean noodles) or the jjamppong (hot and spicy noodle soup). As far as service goes, the two gentlemen were sweet and absolutely refilled our teas often. You can tell they were there to provide good service. Luckily this spot is close by my work so I can't wait to introduce this spot to my coworkers. Don't let looks deceive you as the place itself may not be charming, but the food is delicious - I mean, look at the other reviews. You just have to try this place for yourself.

This place has a parking lot but it's a small parking lot that is shared with other businesses so, I ended up parking on the street, in front of the parking lot. The place is a tad bit hard to find just because it's sandwiched between other businesses but I found it. I ordered for pick up and the man who was helping me was nice. As for the food, it was better than what I expected. The portions are very generous and the dishes are tasty.

I tried the won ton soup 3 days ago, I have been coming back everyday since.. Today is day 4. Delicious and full flavor.... Gonna try more on the menu soon as I'm over this bronchitis..

A small mom and pop shop with quick service. It has couple tables inside for seating and shares a small parking lot with el pollo loco. My toddlers loved the black bean noodles and fried dumplings. Overall, the food tastes like the Korean Chinese food that I grew up with, nothing trendy/fancy. Will definitely be returning to try their other items on the menu.

In a nutshell: a whole more than just a hole-in-a-wall __________ At first glance, Jin Chinese Kitchen is more underwhelming, a small, dingy hole-in-the-wall sandwiched between two other larger restaurants. Inside, you're greeted by one elderly waiter resembling Flash the sloth in Zootopia, standing amidst a few rickety wooden tables and chairs and couch booths with faded leather. Sitting there, sipping hot water from styrofoam cups, you feel like you've been dropped straight into the streets of China. Despite the Korean signs hung all around the walls and splattered across the menu, Jin Chinese Kitchen is indeed Chinese, and the inconspicuous exterior belies the surprisingly good taste of the food. The Orange chicken bowl with rice surpasses that of Panda Express, striking a nice balance between the juicy, crunchy exterior and the succulent meat underneath. I ordered the Broccoli beef bowl with rice. I will die on the hill that steamed broccoli with sauce is one of the best yet most simple vegetable dishes ever. While the beef was tougher than I'd have liked, the broccoli was perfectly soft, but not soggy. I personally would have preferred more vegetables than beef and rice portion-wise though. General Tso's chicken bowl features all the expected-tender chicken in small chunks, stray slices of soft carrot, sprinkles of crunchy peanut- that is neither epically bad nor outstandingly good. Note: the rice tastes best after a thorough mixing, where each fleck is coated completely in the mildly spicy sauce. The noodle bowls are gigantic and the rice bowls were pretty large too, so our table turned into a buffet, each person partaking in all the other dishes. Small bowls of red soup were also distributed, which, according to my friend, tasted exactly like "instant noodle water." For my group of two hungry families looking for a quick, inexpensive lunch stop during a road trip, Jin Chinese Kitchen did the right trick. The aesthetics might not be at the highest standard, but when you've been stuffed in a car with rambunctious kids and exhausted parents, the food will most certainly satisfy.

Best jjampong and best jjajangmyun in LA I seriously haven't had this flavor since Korea I love them so much I get my fix every week I'm so lucky and happy to have found. This place it's that good My nickname is Jjampong and jjajangmyun killaaa Try them the whole menu is bomb Thank you for delicious food every time I greatly appreciate it !!

Sad wonton noodle soup/ not authentic :(
    Judy G.

I was craving wonton noodle soup and I can tell you that they do not serve authentic Chinese food. I ordered the wonton noodle soup and they used some random noodle and some random pieces of mixed veggies and some wonton made out of dumpling skin some broth that's definitely not wonton soup! I know my wonton soup when I tasted it and I was extremely disappointed. Sad meal for $10. After, I went to El Pollo Loco to order some actually fulfilling meal because I was still hungry but mostly disappointed.

Love this place! Good prices for the amount of food you get. Whenever I eat other chinese food I always feel so gross and it feels so greasy to me, but this place is definitely not like that, I don't even feel guilty lol (maybe because it's korean/chinese? Idk). I can't even say what my favorite thing is because everything was so good. Today we ordered the Stir Fried Cham Pong, the Spicy Cham Pong, the Orange Chicken Lunch Special, Ja Jang Myun and the Sweet and Sour Pork. I am very happy to have all this food to enjoy all week long. Last time we ordered from here my roommate and I were hungover and it was the most amazing thing to eat literally all day long haha, so this is our go to for those days. And today this was a nice way to just celebrate Single Awareness Day.

We had two orders of slippery shrimp, kung pao chicken, eggplants with hot and spicy garlic sauce, juicy steamed dumplings, and pork fried rice. Overall, both restaurants in Chinatown and Pasadena provide great food quality. The ambience was cozy with dim lighting. Our round table had a wooden rotating tray. They have pictures of celebrities and politicians who've visited their restaurant. Service was relatively quick, but there was a 20-minute wait for the dumplings. Valet parking can get difficult when the lot gets full. A few cars entering the narrow driveway had to reverse out of the way to let others leave. The kung pao chicken was very tasty with a good amount of spice. I noticed that the slippery shrimp didn't taste as spicy as the portion from Pasadena. Reviews say that the spice is adjustable. Regardless. it tasted great as it came right off the pan. The pork fried rice was delicious with a savory flavor that didn't seem overpowering. I thought the juicy steamed dumplings were the weakest dish out of our whole order. There wasn't enough flavor and heat from the broth. I didn't try much of the eggplants, but they tasted adequate for me.

The menu is New American with Chinese influences served as a four-course prix fixe set, with each course having three choices, and optional additions are available. (There is an à la carte menu available in the bar area.) I went very carnivorous on my selections, choosing the beef tongue carpaccio, duck sausage, and beef short rib. There was not a bad dish among these: The tongue was tender, soft, and delicate. The duck sausage was fantastically good as well; served with an apple jam atop Swiss chard, it was a sort of Chinese-Alpine fusion cuisine of which I never envisioned but instantly wanted more. While delicious, the short rib was overshadowed by its cabbage accompaniment. My server told me it takes four days to make that dish, and I would have happily ordered a full dish of just that. The kaffir lime curd dessert was light and balanced, perfect after the heavier meat courses and like a small vacation to Thailand on a plate. The one dish I did not love was the Chongqing fried chicken course I added. The chicken itself ― a boneless leg quarter ― was a large portion and well-prepared, but the sauce covering it was a thick layer of chilis (which, thankfully, were not inedibly hot) and straight oil, lots of oil. Eating so much oil like that made for gastrointestinal discomfort the rest of the night. The soy pickles helped cut the greasiness a bit, but they weren't vinegary enough to get that level of oiliness off the palate. The duck fat rice, though quite good, also did not help much given its fattiness. Given the chance, I definitely would have requested the oil-sauce on the side. I did appreciate the crunchiness of the batter, which never went soggy despite being soaked in that oily puddle for a long time. I did not find any wines by the glass that bowled me over, so I stuck to cocktails, which were good. Service was warm, personable but not intrusive, and brisk, while the room has the comfortable feel of a mid-century modern den complete with well-worn cookbooks on the shelves lining the walls. I would happily return to try the bar menu with cocktails or when the prix fixe options change. At $68 for four courses, Firstborn's prix fixe is one of the best fine dining offers in L.A. right now, and it makes a trek up to Chinatown worthwhile.
