Its nice to hang out in a place that has a small town weekend feel in the city, on a weekday. My strong americano was served in a glass mug and complimented my granola muffin. I wasn't blown away by either but they did the trick of powering me through the morning. This is my favourite coffee shop in Vancouver. Quite a statement, right? Well this place deserves it. Located on the corner of Arbutus & 6th, it's a cozy place to get some coffee/tea and one of their many baked goods. I've sampled many things and have yet to be disappointed: brownies, pies, cinnamon buns, cakes, they're all good! The best part of this coffeeshop is its location. It's tucked away from the hustle and bustle of 4th, but still close enough to pop in. I have really liked this little cozy cafe until I found a lady at the cafe wasn't nice. I ordered a latte and chocolate cookie and mentioned "For HERE". Then my cookie was served on the plate, and my late was....paper cup!! I asked the lady if I could have a certain cup but not paper cup...then I was told "I served it because you said it's for TO GO." ....Okay, then why did you serve my cookie on the plate? Doesn't make sense does it? The lady was quite rude she shouldn't be in the service occupation at all....Just little thing like that made your day horrible. Such a cute, quaint little coffee shop. Not a chain! They put love into their food! If I lived in this neighbourhood, I'd be here more often. The coffee is okay. I got a maple syrup latte--with real maple syrup! It was a bit too sweet, but I think it's just my taste buds. Next time I would try the mocha. They close at 9pm. It's a good place to come an study! I think they have free wifi since alot of people had their laptops out. I think their prices are a bit steeper than some other places, but for homemade goodness (that's not my own doing), I'd pay more. read more

I am finally living my fantasy of living next (across the street) from a coffeeshop. I dreamed of rolling out of bed and caffeine being mere steps away. AND NOW IT IS. Arbutus Coffee is a picturesque, dollhouse of a coffeshop. Locally run, it's always full of neighbours and people who clearly make it a part of their daily life. I dig the coffee and the neigbourhood vibe. It's a nice place to set up your laptop when the wifi is working, that is. I just wish they had better snacks. I once had a lemon muffin there that was incredible, but never seen it since. And the slabs of chocolate cake and brownies are just too calorific for me. Bring in some decent bagels or toast and you'll make a lot more money. read more

Well isn't this just the cutest little cafe you ever did see?! Even the table full of grandmas was cute! Met a friend for tea but couldn't find a seat by a window or at a table at first so I was forced to park myself in the back, behind a divider wall. It was dark and crammed...BUT a few window seats opened up right on time! It was warm, quiet and smelled like someone's home. It's an old building and the cafe has a lot of history. No beans about it, this is one of if not the best neighbourhood cafes in all of Vancouver! Awesome americanos, great style, and incredible desserts to tempt you. Yes, they also have wifi but it is not a large place a seating anytime can be difficult to find. That said, being a neighbourhood joint means always being able to find a great conversation around you and that is very true with this spot. Go! Might I suggest the German Chocolate Cake? Or better yet, don't. Seriously. When I go there I want my cake and it is often the first item to sell out. The paninis are good, too. I don't think I've had anything in the joint that was disappointing. The inside is cozy though this often translates into not being able to find a place to sit. The food is good, as is the coffee. I was staying with a non-coffee drinking friend for a few days. While he was off to work, I was off to find a local cafe with decent java and wifi. Arbutus Coffee brought me both! And then some. This little corner cafe has utilized its space well. A total of 5 tables, a booth, a small seated bar by the window and a couple of chairs with a cubby at the back before for solitary laptop work or studying. It's got a cool thing going. The lovely woman working behind the counter Friday morning seemed to have a steady stream of regulars popping in and out... and conversation to go with each of them. I had my usual Americano. But also ordered a breakfast bagel. Holy toledo, Yelpman! That bagel puts a lot of breakfast bagels back in Calgary to shame. It was a simple ham and cheese... but I do believe there was cream cheese in the middle of it. If that's the secret to an improved breakfast bagel, I'm catching the next flight to philly cheese cloud 9. I didn't get a chance to partake, but a sign up on the counter said there's a free craft club night everything Thursday from 7-930pm. Fifth star... no option to add a tip when I was paying with debit. Thank goodness for change. There could be any number of reasons the option wasn't included... but when I'm so used to automatically adding in a bit of tip, it caught me by surprise that someone wouldn't even have the option for me to do so... but it totally fits and adds to the charm of Arbutus Coffee! read more

I have driven by this coffee shop many times in the past couple of months, and each time I promise myself I will try it out. Even from the outside it looks very old country and inviting. Yesterday, I finally went! The ambiance on the inside, matches what is portrayed on the outside. Quiet, relaxed and with a feeling you are in a small town coffee shop where everybody knows each other. I love this atmosphere! I had a chai latte with a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. The chai latte was OK - definitely better than the big chain stores, but there was no kick to it (and I do like a kick in my chai!), hence the minus 1 star. The cookie, on the other hand, was delicious! Sweet and soft like cookie dough, which is exactly how I like my cookies. The place was small, the staff was very friendly and the clientelle was courteous. I will give you an example of the latter: my friend and I walked in and there were no places to sit but as we ordered, some seats at the window opened up. Another couple walked in after us and instead of having a race for the free seats, they saw that we got there first and offered us the seats. They did not wait long for more seats to open up. From that little story, you might be able to tell that the place is not big, maybe seating 20 people inside and some more outside. Nonetheless, there were people enjoying their choice of beverage and working on their computers. Conclusion: I will definitely return! But next time I will try a different drink :) read more

Great stop while walking/biking down Arbutus Greenway. On a nice day there is some outdoor seating that you can take advantage of while enjoying some coffee and baked goods. I've always thought of this place as a resting area rather than a place to work or have meetings. The space and chairs inside don't really allow for you to be in there for too long. The staff is nice (from what I have seen) and the menu is pretty good unless you are looking for more than a coffee shop. Overall a 4 star for me. I love this place. read more

On a cold, rainy day we wandered over with our two pups. Unfortunately the outside tables and chairs were all locked up, but the long bench under the canopy was still dry. Popped inside and asked about the tables, and the server (manager?) was quick to head outside, set up the tables, expand the canopy, and dry everything off. She even offered milkbones and doggie-towels to dry off our little dogs - pretty amazing! We were all set and had our coffees and yummy cheese quiches. Even outside in the rain this is a cozy place that feels homey and relaxed. The boulevard garden is well taken care of and has a little share-library in it, which completes the serene atmosphere. We really love this little gem with its comfy, rustic ambiance and dog-friendly staff. read more

This cozy little coffee shop is one my go to spots for studying when there's sunshine. You can catch the sun outside and they've improved the setting by planting flowers everywhere. When you order tea you always get the pot, which is always a plus. Their selection of baked goods and other food is a bit limited, but they do have some vegetarian options. It's one major downfall is that it closes early, at 6 or 7 p.m. depending on the day. read more

Definitely the sort of place where you get your coffee to stay and chat with friends. My americano was not mindblowingly good but certainly tolerable to drink black and nice and nice and strong. So we went because it was listed as dog friendly only be told that it only applied to service dogs. So we sat outside instead and ate our mediocre quiche and latte. I love old timey coffee shops like Arbutus Coffee that smell like cinnamon and roast. I rode my bike over from downtown to do some work and take in lunch. It's an easy ride on cypress and just a couple streets over, located on a quiet neoghbourhood street. Not too many plugs for laptops but on a quiet afternoon you should be able to snag a good spot. Lots of sandwich, soup and yummy pastry options. My roasted vegetable sandwich was great and the staff was friendly. Definitely going back soon! read more

There's so much to like about this little gem. The baked goods & daily soups made fresh every morning in their kitchen, the good selection of teas readily available, specialty coffees or daily changing drip, there's really something for everyone. I'm a huge fan of their Cherry Chocolate scones, but you have to get there early or you'll miss your chance. Same goes for their muffins that disappear as fast as they come out of the oven. And if you're wanting a cookie that isn't too sweet with just the right amount of chewiness, I encourage you to the Corner Store cookie. Another great pip is that owner & manager are constantly coming up with something new or different to titillate the taste buds. Even their power bars are home-made & have a regular following, which explains why they disappear so quickly. The shop is small though that doesn't stop people from waiting in a line-up or on the sidelines for a place to sit. Even the line ups go reasonably fast & the staff are considerate enough to acknowledge those waiting, even if only to say it might be awhile. The shop itself has plenty of old fashioned charm from the large brass chandelier above, to the antique items scattered around. There's plenty of history to this place as evident from photos dating back to when it was originally a corner store. As soon as you walk into the place it feels warm & inviting, and you really feel as though you're stepping back in time. It's one of many reasons I keep going back! read more

The outside is so cute and homely, like something out of Stars Hollow from the Gilmore Girls. Inside is just as homey and old school country like. My friend and I came in to get some change, pastry and a coffee. The lady working at the til was really friendly. I had a sugar free caramel latte which was really good and priced very reasonably. Snack selection was decent for what it was. The service is slow, therefore, if you're in a rush...don't bother. Best coffee shop in Kits! Yes, it's a bit off the beaten track, but it's worth walking the extra few blocks to. Good, cheap coffee and delicious looking food. Also, they provide the Vancouver Sun and other miscellaneous papers. read more
