I live in a ranch home built in the 1950s - a fairly common build for the Chicago area. ARC provided a quote ( without visiting our home) that included the following sentence, "Please confirm exterior walls are framed 2x4". I told the rep that other companies have inspected our home and stated that our walls are suitable for blown in insulation. ARC never came to visit our home - while their competitors did this as a standard account management cycle. Fast forward to this week, I was ready to sign the agreement and pay the deposit - the rep asked me to confirm the 2x4 framing. I asked him how he wanted me to do this - he suggested I drill pilot holes in each wall or pay a 3rd party to do this and that ARC was not responsible for verifying the details of our home. Not responsible for validating a critical project detail before having you customer pay thousands of dollars?! Extremely poor customer service and frankly, a lazy sales team. I am sure the crews doing the work are great, but the accounts team could use a refresh. I will work with a competitor unless ARC has employees willing to visit their prospective customers! read more

Living in a gut rehab often feels like setting sail in a leaky rowboat. I love our home, but over the years we've uncovered a dozen cut corners that would take about $2k to do right the first time and will cost us probably 10x as much when all is said and done. We've been focusing on resolving our insulation issues most recently to prevent any catastrophic damage to our plumbing. We hired Arc to redo a lot of the work done the year prior. Our original insulator seemed to do a good job, but it left us with a house that felt colder than when we started and our pipe freezing issues persisted. They also ghosted us when we sought help to remedy our issues. Arc removed the blown in insulation in our basement from our first attempt. They were supposed to suck it out, but instead bagged it leaving a thick layer of dust across our entire basement. Had we known, we would've covered more items so we didn't need to wipe it all down for us and the cats health and safety. This time they spray foamed the basement and ensured all of the rim joists were sealed. My husband was annoyed that despite his repeated asking, they covered a good deal of our pipes, which will be a pain if we ever need to address a plumbing issue. Our first real test was the cold we had over Christmas. Without leaving our sink to drip, we got through the coldest night almost ok. We still had our hot water line freeze, but we're almost positive the issue is now on our first floor, which Arc didn't touch. Fixing insulation issues is annoying. You discover the work when it's cold, you do the work when it's warm, and you wait to see if it worked when it's cold again. We still have to open a wall on the first floor to see where we still have leaks to plug, but I like to think we'd have Arc back if needed. read more

I am very happy with the work completed by the ARC Insulation team in our home. On the initial visit, David was very helpful at answering our questions when providing the initial estimate. Juan M was very quick and thorough when completing the tests needed to check if we qualified for the tax credits. I am very happy with the spray foam insulation provided by ARC Insulation! The ARC team was Professional, Respectful - and always Helpful. The Job I contacted ARC regarding insulating my basement exterior walls between the ceiling joists, (boxsills). I provided Ryan a basement floorplan with measurements, (ARC is able to provide estimates via Google). Ryan recommended the best materials to use and provided me a quote that listed the materials, who-did-what and the costs. Ryan also described how the job was costed. I chose to prepare the areas myself. Reference: Single story brick ranch with full basement. My Preparation All items/furniture were moved away from the wall 4-ft to 5-ft so that the ARC team would be able to maneuver a ladder around the perimeter of the basement. I removed the existing insulation (fiberglass 'bats'), vacuumed the areas and dry-wiped the sills /horizontal-surfaces - vacuuming didn't remove all the grit. I covered my items/furniture with plastic drop cloths. The Process The ARC team arrived a few minutes before the appointment, (Juan & Victor). We 'walked' the basement perimeter to view any potential challenges with the job - the guys answered ALL my questions. We found the best place to locate the ARC truck and route the spray hose, (150-ft). The team used painters' tape to protect selected areas and applied plastic sheet to the walls. ARC applied the insulation, trimmed the expanded foam where need, took-down and removed all the plastic and cleaned the work area. I wore a mask and glasses and viewed the process start-to-finish so that I could be available for any issues - Everything went smoothly!! The Arc Insulation Team did a great job at our home. We had insulation added/upgraded in our basement. The hope was to help the basement keeps its temperature better and to protect some pipes from freezing. The team that did the work struggled to locate the pipes for the sink when they got the walls open. They never gave up the search and eventually located them. I was really appreciative of the effort they put in searching out those pipes. The team also did a great job cleaning up before they left. Because they were recommended for energy rebate, I went with them. However, I took off work for the scheduled visit and they never showed. When I called, they claimed they didn't have me scheduled, even though I paid a deposit with the date scheduled in the contract. Then they rescheduled and I took pictures of supposedly R49 work. This is not only not R49, there are huge gaps of missing insulations and old insulation is still sitting there, plus plastic in place of insulation! I'm out of nearly $4K! They also did not do blower test after installation. They were rushing and couldn't get the fan attached to the door, and did not properly seal around the frame. I got ripped off and I do not recommend! This company lacks integrity. read more

For years I had to spend most of my winters on the second floor of my house because the first floor was so cold it was unbearable. My home was built before 1970 and so it had no insulation in the walls. I had called three companies before ARC and had given up on the idea. Last year I gave it one last shot and called ARC and they gave me a very reasonable price, their sales person was punctual, courteous, and to the point. The experience was great! I write now because I wanted to see what the difference would be and with all this snow and extreme bitter cold, it is night and day!!! We needed to rehab a family member's attic and crawlspace that had no ventilation and mold/moisture as a result. Jay came in and based on his experience, he assessed exactly what was needed to fix all of the problems. His team came in and created proper ducts for the kitchen and bathroom vents, cleared all of the soffit vents, added more roof caps, added baffles, removed all of the old insulation and added new insulation (to R49) and removed ALL of the mold. Looked like a brand new attic! His team also removed all the mold in the crawlspace and placed a vapor barrier down there, and covered all of the walls with foam insulation - problems also fixed in crawl. All of this was completed at a reasonable price. We were so pleased and impressed with ARC's work that we had our own attic worked on. The ARC team assessed my home for proper ventilation and insulation and worked magic in the attic (added soffit vents, baffles, sealed all gaps, raised insulation levels to R49) and added new roof caps. While the crew was working on the attic, they noticed that the ceiling drywall had detached from the attic joists (and informed me that the drywall was sagging). Rather than blowing it off as someone else's problem, not saying anything and just adding the insulation (which would have made the ceiling cave into the house), his team spent 6 extra hours screwing the drywall back in place (raised ceiling 1/2" back up). I can't thank them enough for catching this and informing me. Their honesty and integrity impressed me, along with their expertise and knowledge of proper ventilation and insulation. Both levels of my house are now the same temperature and my furnace is working less to heat the house. I can't thank them enough. I asked these guys afor a commercial proposal for improving the thermal insulation characteristics. These were not just recommendations from the air. The expert came. He inspected the whole house in addition using a thermal imager. Then he said that he had received all the required information. After a while I received full information on the required works and their cost. As a specialist, it was absolutely clear to me what should be done first and this is the most effective waste of my money, and what should I postpone for later. Professionals in their field. When the crew came the next day to do the work that here were 3 other men that came to do the main work with Marshall and I'm sorry I didn't get their names but these men worked so hard and efficiently I was amazed. He spent a lot of time looking through my house and suggesting small improvements but they were unable to do the major project. Nevertheless he still spent the time to finish the walk through evaluation and educate me about my insulation situation. They charged me nothing for the careful appraisal he offered me. ARC Insulation came out to do some warranty work in our attic for our builder (Airhart). They were prompt, courteous, and super efficient. The guys from ARC did fantastic work insulating our attic space above the ceiling in our family room and garage. They insulated a large area (45+ bags of blown cellulose insulation) in only 2 hours. No damage was done to the ceiling - no nail pops or anything. And they even shared some pictures with me so I could see the great work they did when it was complete. We needed new insulation for our attic was all we knew from the home inspection, so we were shopping around and got multiple quotes including one of the big box stores Arc was the most reasonable along with comed rebates. Chris came out for inspection and explained in detail that apart from just "insulation" we needed "weatherization" basically closing air leaks. Never once did they try to upsell, everything was explained with reasons. Then on the scheduled day, their technician Tom came out to do the blowdoor test and he was very thorough and explained the readings. The day of the install, the crew came on time and were very professional and patient. the entire work took more than 6 hours. We chose ARC over its competitors mainly because of Robert, ARC's sales representative. Robert gave detailed explanations and submitted a detailed proposal of the scope of work. He also was open to negotiate the price. It took 8 hours and a hard working three-man team to do the job. When job was done, the lead man went through the scope of work listing in all details. He showed full knowledge of the flaws and existing imperfections in our house that had been discovered by Robert and listed in the proposal. The lead man and his team were very soft spoken, well mannered, modest, quiet, respectful, and showed perfect professional ethics. Thanks to the lead man we now have a proper venting connection of our bathroom fan. It was poorly done by the GC and missed by the expensive roofers. The lead man redid it. ARC is an integrated team of various specialists. Its painters showed up and fixed spots where the nails popped out a little bit because of the work above. They did this the same day and it looks like those nail pops were never there. We are glad that all electrical work in the attic had been done prior to the insulation because it would be very hard to dig through the deep layers of Nu-Wool (NW) material to install lighting cans or other electrical work. The entrance to the part of the attic above the bedrooms was permanently sealed, though it can be forced open in case of necessity to enter that space. An important topic is the type of insulating material. Homeowners who need new insulation do not have much choice of material because ARC's competitors also offered the same NW. During his presentation Robert demonstrated NW insulation material, which was pressed in a box. We think that this demonstration is a little misleading. As a matter of fact, the customers receive not pressed NW material but very fluffy, light, and dusty material. It did not settle under gravity for a very long time and stays in the environment for a long time. Eventually it did settle creating a layer of gray dust on all surfaces. Continuous thorough cleaning in the house will be necessary until sedimentation will finally come to an end. It is especially important if you want to insulate the entire space under the roof, including the bedrooms and space above the garage. You do not want to inhale dust during your night's sleep. It is not nice to have NW flying in attic, which you may continue using as a storage space. In this regard we think that air duct cleaning should be done no earlier than a month after insulation. It would be nice, very appreciated, and rewarding to the owners if ARC could offer covering the NW surface to prevent light NW material from flying around. It could be done a month or two later. read more
