Burger, onion rings, & sparkling water is the perfect energy boost after a 10 mile walk.

I had the restaurant to myself on one of the prettiest days at the Bay. Location is nice: close to parking, shopping, aquarium, Cannery Row, bike trail, & Lovers' Point. Food is fresh & prepared quickly. Owner is very nice & friendly. Price aligns with other nearby restaurants. There's ample indoor & outdoor seating with natural shading in the afternoon. Great selection of beverages for people of all ages. Lotsa room for strollers & room to lock up bikes.

I have to say I can see why the rating for this restaurant is mediocre. I'm not sure when they acquired the building, but from the looks of the floor, it looks horrendous (see photo). The customer service wasn't friendliest, but also wasn't rudest either. I decided to sit inside the dining room and the table was really sticky. The chairs are mismatched and so are the booths. it's obvious they try to make the restaurant to be a "trendy" restaurants/diner. $$22 for fish and chips and five dollars for soda... I decided to choose one of the burgers. I know why they charged extra it's because they are literally next-door to the Monterey Bay aquarium where they can charge extra because of tourist. If tourist can go a block down the road, they can get the same, probably even better quality, fish and chips at a cheaper price. I ordered their Hawaiian burger. If you don't mind extremely well done hamburger with an unripened pineapple, enjoy. Originally, I was going to give this place three star rating, however, due to everything I had mentioned above, I'm lowering this place with two star rating. After giving the 10% tip, I'm regretting that decision. Quality of service: C Quality of food: D Price: $$ Recommendation: walk about a block or two from the aquarium For better quality burgers, and even cheaper price.

Some of the best burgers I have every had. Nice staff and great location near the Aquarium with outdoor seating.

    - Owner is immensely rude and immature. - He price gouges you for poor service. - The place smelled like mold and mildew. Message to the owner: - You obviously don't know how to run a business, and the many negative reviews is pointing that out to you. - You wanted to run a business, boss a few employees and not be bored at home. Here is a free advice for you: Sell the establishment, make your money back, and walk away. This location deserves better than you ruining the experience for the general public. This advice was brought to you without a $10 minimum credit card charge for a soda :)

Classic cheese burger w/ spread only. Delicious!

Best burger in Monterey if you ask me. If you come during non-peak hours, you can often find the owner cleaning the floors and making sure the place is in tip-top condition. Really appreciate that! Their burger and fries are excellent. My daughter is a pretty harsh french fry critic and she gives Archie's two thumbs up.

Definitely a tourist trap and should have known to go elsewhere but my friend and I were hungry and he wanted a burger. This was one of the spots that came up that served burgers so off we went. I ordered the fish and chips, and this dish came with three of the saddest child-sized palms of fillets that seemed to have been previously frozen. The fries, while crispy, were dry and needed ketchup just to get through them. Even more embarrassing, this place gave me a lemon wedge that was practically dry. When I squeezed it, only seeds and a couple drops of juice came out. I had to pay ~$27 for just that small basket of food while my friend paid a good amount of money for his burger and fries.

But to have excellent food? HELL NAH! Well they do! Everything was deeeeelicious! Everything! You'd think we had been stuck on a deserted island for weeks and starving to death so that every crumb tasted extra tasty, but I swear that wasn't the case! I wasn't even hungry and planned on eating ONE of the tiny skewers of mozzarella cheese with tomato and basil. That's it! But then the hummus and bread arrived, and I could see that was special. We are talking drool-inducing special! The bread was pizza bread, my friends! It was hot, it was crunchy on the outside, and soft and chewy to perfection on the inside! And that hummus, I have no idea what exactly was in it, but if Heaven was a food item, that's what it would be! Then we ordered the soup of the day. This potato leek soup we ordered ran out, so they brought us this alternate one (some tomato bisque one), so I was disappointed....until I took a sip. Then my black coal of a heart melted into jelly beans of joy! I could have eaten a gallon of that. Hops and Fog Brewing is a misleading name. It should be called something like: Hops and Fog Brewing and OH SO MUCH MORE, CHICKADEES! If this brewery-restaurant was closer, I would come here regularly!

I love the combination of toppings they use, especially on the lemon artichoke pesto pizza. They cook the pizzas in a beautiful stone oven, so it takes a bit of time to come out, but while waiting you can sip on a fruity sour or smooth ale made there at the brewery. They offer other food options as well like salads, soups, and sandwiches. The seating here is somewhat limited first come first serve. You order at the counter first and they'll bring the food to your table. It's a small restaurant and can feel quite cramped inside when full, but there is outdoor seating in the front and back as well. It gets especially crowded when they have live music playing inside (which also gets very loud in the small space). The sfatt have been friendly for the most part. My friends and I have run into a few situations where staff have been a little rude or haven't addressed messy tables for a long time when it's busy. Overall though, I do enjoy eating here and will continue to support this brewery in downtown Pacific Grove.

I'm from Reno and we don't have any good British pubs so when going out of town I always look to see if there's a good looking one where we will be going. I saw this place on Yelp and the first thing I noticed was how legit the fish and chips looked. Once I saw that you can get sides of mushy peas or curry sauce, I knew we had to check it out (this is how you would order fish n chips in the UK!) Stopped by on a Friday evening, it was definitely busy but we got lucky and got seated right away. The live band outside was a nice touch. Now I will say, the menu here is fairly small, with only a few British items. But the items they do have are very authentic and I was primarily going for the fish n chips anyway. Great big pieces of cod, batter was beautifully fluffy. The chips are perfectly thick cut. My only very very minor complaint is that I do wish the curry sauce was a little thicker and less spicy, more like a traditional chip shop curry sauce but that's just my preference. I still love that it's even offered! My husband had the BBC (bangers, beans and chips) and he loved it. I tried a bit of his banger and it was really good. Nice thick pork sausage. They had a good looking beer selection, I will have to try some on a future visit when I'm not pregnant! I was really really pleased with my meal here. Please add some bangers and mash though! Those bangers are delicious.

The streets of Alvarado and surrounding were packed with cars and people. We circled the blocks surrounding a couple of times before double parking a block away from the brewery. My little person was with me on this mission. Upon entering the brewery, the hostess had a line of five groups in front of us being put on a waiting list to be seated. Inside, every seat and stool was occupied. The tables and seating were compact with enough aisle space to allow servers through to deliver orders. When it was our turn, I provided my name for pickup. We were instructed to get our order from the beer garden. Location of the beer garden, in the rear of the overpacked aisles we had to beeline through. The interior of this location spans vastly which is great for customer seating and lessening wait times, yet sucks for those needing to retrieve their pickup. When we finally made it to the rear, our order was ready to go. I signed the receipt and was off. The food itself was prepared exceptionally well, extremely flavorful with high quality ingredients and nothing but compliments from each of us - three in total. Our daughter killed every slice of her pizza minus one, husband devoured his and I had a few slices remaining that I ate for breakfast cold. The cheesy crust was a beautiful crunchy addition texturally and flavor wise; however, cold it was hard to bite through as easy. Would we return, definitely. We will do a one person hop out and grab the food while the other circles. Lucky there were no cops out towing - I was in the red for a minute waiting to pickup.

Every Monterey Trip Starts Here…read more I've been making the drive from San Francisco to Monterey for years, and this has become my traditional first stop before heading into town. Instead of rushing straight to Cannery Row or 17-Mile Drive, I like to slow down, grab a pint, relax for an hour, and then continue the trip. It honestly puts me in vacation mode. If you're an IPA lover, Dust Bowl Brewing Tap Depot is paradise. California has hundreds of craft breweries, and I've visited quite a few over the years. In my opinion, Dust Bowl deserves to be mentioned among the better IPA breweries in the state. What impresses me most isn't just that their beers are bitter. A lot of breweries chase high IBU numbers and end up producing beers that are simply harsh. Dust Bowl understands balance. Their stronger draft IPAs are incredibly layered. One sip starts with bright citrus, then shifts into tropical fruit, grapefruit, pine, resin, floral hops, and sometimes even hints of stone fruit. As the beer slowly warms up, the aroma and flavor continue to evolve. It's almost like drinking a well-crafted fruit blend--except everything comes naturally from the hops. That's what makes great West Coast IPA so enjoyable. Whenever they have one of their high-alcohol, high-IBU specialty IPAs on draft, I order it without hesitation. Those beers alone are worth stopping for. Honestly, if you're serious about IPA, don't just order one pint. Try several different drafts. You'll understand why people keep coming back. The nice surprise is that the rest of their beer lineup is also excellent. Whether you enjoy lagers, pale ales, porters, stouts, or seasonal releases, everything I've tried has been well made and consistently enjoyable. Another thing I appreciate is that this place never feels like a tourist trap. Considering you're in Monterey, the prices are very fair. The beer quality easily justifies what you pay, and the portions are generous. It's simply honest craft beer served by people who clearly care about what they're brewing. The food isn't trying to be fine dining, and that's perfectly okay. It's good, straightforward brewery food that pairs well with beer. Burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, and snacks are exactly what I want while enjoying a couple of pints. The staff has always been friendly every time I've visited. Even when they're busy, they're welcoming, patient, and happy to answer questions or recommend beers if you're unsure what to order. Great service always makes good beer taste even better. For me, Dust Bowl Brewing has become part of every Monterey trip. If you love craft beer, especially West Coast IPA, this place shouldn't just be on your list--it should be one of your destinations. There are plenty of breweries in California. There are plenty of places to drink beer. But if you're an IPA enthusiast like I am, Dust Bowl Brewing is one of those places that reminds you why California became one of the world's great craft beer capitals. Every trip to Monterey starts here. And I can't imagine starting it anywhere else.
