I love arepas: Thick, savory (can be sweet too) corn pancakes that can be stuffed or topped limitlessly; so when this Venezuelan restaurant was recommended to me by Colombians (should be noted that both countries proudly claim the best arepas in the world), I jumped at the opportunity... and was gluttonously rewarded. I'll stop short of recommending a specific one, because if you've never eaten an arepa, that's the first step. Try one!.. and if members of your party are bald baby kitties and that discourages you from trying new things, check out the menu, they'll be fine. Stopped here because my girlfriend hasn't had an Arepa in about 20 years. She spent a lot of time in Venezuela and was looking forward to an Arepa. Needless to say she was a little bit skeptical trying authentic Venezuelan food in Jacksonville. Boy were we pleasantly surprised. The Arepa's were bursting with meat, bursting with flavor, and made your mouth happy with every bite. We ordered the Pabellon and the Mona Chicken and were Blown away with the flavor. You will not leave this place hungry as the portions are very large and the Arepa's Are crafted with care and a great experience. I was really let down with my first visit to Arepa Please. What tainted my experience was the lunch service. This was our first time in the establishment and the staff clearly favored the regulars, taking their orders, making their meals out ahead of those who are waiting, all while I'm waiting 40 mins for my meal. I felt like I was an inconvenience to the staff. I basically ordered premade chicken salad and prepreped potato salad. I loved this place! Never had an arepa before and it was an experience. I had the Mona Chicken arepa. Super tasty, hot, and corn cake was really crispy. The sauce was a really good addition too. To start off the place caught my eye when my sister and I drove by there on our way to meet her local Jacksonville friend for lunch. We're from Charlotte, NC so we were excited to get to know a bit of Jacksonville, Fl on our 2 day trip. We agreed we'd have dinner there so we arrive and it's a beautiful place! I love art so the pictures on the wall with the lights that seemed to be coming from the projectors on the ceiling was breathtaking. I've never seen anything like it. Anywho, service, also amazing. Love me some arepas and this Venezuelan joint does NOT disappoint. They have a selection of some Venezuelan classic but also some local spins. Each arepa comes with a side, like potato salad or pasta salad. I got a Queen with a side of potato salad during weekday lunch. Great service + great food Now I usually tend to make my own arepas and have more than one, but Arepa Please fills theirs to the max so you really don't need more than one (though you will certainly want more!). They do not have dinner service and weekends they are closed Sundays. I will be back soon to try out the rest of the menu, since they not only have a dozen or so signature arepas but also an off-the-grill menu selection. read more

I had The Queen, my wife had the Pabellon. The Queen was a delicious shredded chicken salad with avocado. The arepas themselves were thinner and less sweet than I expected, but they paired perfectly with the ingredients inside. I expect I was expecting carnival arepas. None the less, I'll be back to try the Just Cheese. The Guayoyo coffee was a beautiful blend of mildly sweet and strong bitter that danced on our tongues. I usually drink my coffee with cream or milk, and it didn't need either. My only complaint is that the bathroom was a little wonky. The door didn't quite lock right. Definitely not a deal breaker. Love the place, and we'll absolutely be back again. Price is a little high, but absolutely worth it, and not above normal for Brooklyn/urban core prices. read more

Wow! If you have never had Arepa, it is definitely something you want to add to your bucket list! For those that don't know, arepa is a a type of ground maize dough. They use it for all kinds of stuff in South America. So my parents had been here before and wanted to take me to try it. I happened to be with my two boys and usually we don't take them too many places. It's not because they are kids, or can't behave, it's because my oldest son has terrible food allergies and it's just not worth the risk of contamination to take him somewhere new. I was pretty nervous but figured if I wasn't comfortable, I could always take him somewhere familiar afterwards. I explained my son's allergies to the two gentleman who were working the food line and they immediately took me very seriously. I appreciated that they understood the gravity and didn't just treat me like some crunchy mom who doesn't want my kids to eat gluten. They changed their gloves, cleaned their work area and still used a barrier between his food and the work surface! They really took great care to ensure my son's health and I would add an extra start just for that if I could. As far as the food, I had the chicken salad at prompting from the mom. I think the sandwich is called the queen but I can't be absolutely sure. It was absolutely the best chicken salad I have ever had. It was moist and flavorful and was loaded with avocado. I had potato salad on the side which was also very good. I would have loved to try a salad too, they looked amazingly bright and fresh but I didn't even come close to finishing my sandwich! Four stars is for the chicken salad pita and cold slaw only. The young man who rung us up was kind of slow. When you come from Downtown Jax. And only have thirty minutes for lunch-you don't have time to waste. I know the short lunch break is my problem, but when I call in the order before driving over to pick it up-the slowness does not set well with me. I also did not get a warm welcome by him at all, nor did my co-worker Tonya. Right in the middle of waiting on us, he is super friendly with a customer who is leaving and then he goes back to the odd unwelcome feeling towards Tonya and I. This was our first visit, upon my prompting Tonya to come here with me. I came because Kerry's and Matt C's reviews. FOUR STARS IS FOR THE FOOD! It was delicious and fresh. Somebody needs to work the register that knows how to be friendly to EVERY customer. This was really shocking for me. I will return for the food, but I will come when I have the day off and I am not in a hurry. If you want repeat customers, you have to share the love with them and you need a little work on that. Now I had ordered a garden salad with chicken salad on top and some ranch dressing but their huge salads come with lotsa nicely cut up cucumbers and those I dipped in that YuMMMMMMMy cilantro sauce. The sauce and the salad with all the colorful fresh toppings of tomato's and greens was delightful. I called in the order so I was in and out lickity split.
