This is my new favorite sushi spot in the area. The fish is so fresh and the amount of fish that they serve on each piece of nigiris is unmatched. Tuna is now my favorite fish to eat raw and it's thanks to this place that my standard for sushi is higher. I'm typically not the biggest fan of specialty rolls, but the ones that came with the platter was surprisingly enjoyable! Appreciate the attentive service here. We were craving sushi at 9pm and wanted to go somewhere nearby that was still open beyond 10pm -- and what a find this turned out to be. We split a tonkatsu ramen, ordered 10-piece rolls, and went for the sashimi regular platter. The ramen stood out right away. The tonkatsu pork had a beautiful sear on it -- something you don't often see in ramen -- which added great texture and a satisfying chew. The broth was equally impressive: rich, deep, and full of flavor. The salmon and crab rolls had a welcome kick to them, but the real showstopper was the sashimi platter. For a "regular" option, it was far from regular. Twelve generous, thick-cut pieces of fish, thoughtfully presented -- the salmon was delicately rolled into a rose shape with salmon roe nestled inside. The platter also featured scallops, which felt like a special touch. They even included fatty tuna, a premium cut that you rarely see at this price point. We'll absolutely be back. read more

was able to make a 9 person resy, the day of, on a sunday night with ease. The staff was super attentive and patient with us, especially since it was our first time there. The sushi was sooo good. My go to is usually Ariake, but this is worth the extra 15 min drive down the road. Plus, the service is infinitely better. Would happily go back next weekend! read more

TL;DR: below average sushi; would not recommend Walked in here on a Friday night, and it was pretty busy. We were able to wait about 5 minutes and get seated. Interior was very cute, and the ambiance was nicer than we had expected it to be. FOOD: ~Toro Carpaccio (2/5): Looked very pretty, but the fish was on the warmer side. You couldn't even taste the toro because it was so over dressed, which was very sweet. ~Hashi sushi sashimi combo (2/5): ~~Came with an assortment of nigiri, sashimi, and rainbow roll ~~Immediately, I noticed that the cut of the fish was off, particularly the tuna (Maguro) ~~The cut was choppy which indicates to me that it was either improperly cut, a bad part of the fish used, or not fresh. ~~The tuna was mushy and tasted very metallic. One bite and I couldn't stomach another one ~~One of the white fish has so much sinew that I couldn't even bite through it. ~~Some of the other fish had miware/breakage, which was very noticeable on the hamachi nigiri ~~Rainbow roll is typically california roll on the inside. It tasted like straight mayo with almost invisible avocado. Same mushy tuna was on top. ~~All the other fish was mid/tasteless ~~Scallop was the only one that was okay. ~Spicy scallop roll (3/5): was just okay ~Green tea ice cream (2/5): came complimentary. Since sushi is one of my favorite foods, I'm always on the hunt for new spots, and Sushi Friends in Fairfax definitely did not disappoint. Even without a reservation, we were seated within seven minutes of walking in, which was a great start to the night. The service was excellent, and our server was super attentive throughout the meal. I started with some hot sake, which was fabulous, and we ordered the seaweed salad and the tempura fried appetizer. Both were delicious, but the sushi was the real standout absolutely phenomenal. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, and I really liked how they had dividers between tables to give them a sense of privacy. It was a nice touch that added to the atmosphere. The staff were incredibly kind and generous, they even gave us three dishes on the house, which was such a thoughtful surprise! The house fish was delicious and fresh, and the fried baby scallops were crispy and flavorful. The nigiri, especially the toro, was great! Very fatty & melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the portion size was just right. The rolls were solid too. I especially enjoyed the mango roll because it tasted so fresh. The only dish that didn't quite hit for me was the Mentaiko pasta because the cheese flavor was very deep and intense, almost a bit overpowering with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Food was very good! I got the Toro Unagi Don and the toro was PHENOMENAL super fresh and flavorful the donburi came with a good amount of yummy veggies (loved the rakkyo)! The entree came with miso soup and a small ginger salad which was nothing extraordinary but very good!! I feel like many sushi restaurants don't give free soup/salad anymore so I really enjoyed the soup and salad! We also got beef gyoza which was solid, very nice beef flavor. Typically, any small amount of wasabi would sting my nostrils and rarely do I ever use it. Here, the wasabi itself was subtle in flavor and found myself adding more to the futomaki roll. The edamame was lightly seasoned with salt. The shrimp tempura roll was perfectly crispy and light. I also typically don't order tempura as it can be too heavy though enjoyed the texture. While not featured on the menu, I'm also happy that they were able to make hand rolls by request. My friend also got his hot green tea refilled on the house throughout the meal. It tasted more refined than bag tea and tasted more like roasted green tea or similar in flavor to barley tea. I was satisfied with the food yet was curious if they had a dessert menu. It's like they read my mind! We received another complimentary gift of two generous scoops of green tea ice cream. We were also given a $10 coupon to redeem at our next outing, so now I've got to come back since I'd love to try one of their cocktails or tempura udon. Met friends here for a happy hour and was SO glad they suggested Sushi Hashi! They have happy hour from 3-6 everyday with a wide variety of starters and rolls for $5! They also had cocktails for $8 and draft beers for $5! Off the HH menu we ordered the edamame, ika sansai salad, khaki fry,spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and shrimp tempura. We then also ordered the Maryland roll, double salmon roll and super crab. For being only $5 - the happy hour items were delicious! I especially love the khaki fry and ika sansai salad. The khaki fry was nice and crispy on the outside and juicy and flavorful on the inside while the ika sansai salad was very flavorful and fresh. All sushi rolls were also fresh and delicious, my favorite being either the super crab or the Maryland rolls. The restaurant itself was very clean and decorated well but what really set this place apart was the service. We brought our baby and half way through our meal, he started fussing so my husband started to stroll him around the restaurant to calm him. One of my favorite happy hour places that also does weekend happy hours. Happy hour is Monday to Sunday, 3 to 6 pm. $5 bites and $8 cocktails. I got for the California rolls haha but they have an extensive happy hour menu. The drinks are good. I've tried them all and the lemon sorbet dessert is very refreshing. Came here for lunch on the weekend- but had a huge breakfast so was going to share some plates but the lady made a comment about how their portions weren't big (suggesting we order more), portions were more than enough. We got the tempura, udon, sushi sashimi combo, and chirashi. Decent sushi restaurant with pretty yummy rolls! My favorite was the Black Dragon roll. The server was also prompt to take our order and bring our food out. The only thing is that a lot of the rolls were just rotations of different combinations of shrimp tempura + cream cheese, so the three rolls we got were pretty similar in taste. I ordered the Hashi Platter Combo (24 pcs + 3 rolls) for Mother's Day. When I got home, I found 3 pieces of sushi missing. It honestly feels like the restaurant took advantage of the fact that takeout customers can't inspect the order on the spot. They offered a 20% Mother's Day discount, but it seems they just cut 20% of the food to make up for it. I tried calling for 20 minutes to address this, but they completely ignored my calls. I've only been to Lunch and Happy Hour but was happily surprised with the quality of sushi and the presentation for the price. I'm from Japan and don't really go out to eat sushi because it's usually disappointing and not good enough quality for over priced sushi. They are Korean chefs but know how to prep and present right. He was attentive with asking what exactly we liked, filling our waters, and taking our trash with empty plates away. I came to this location with my fiancé on June 7th. This restaurant is by far one of the best experiences I have ever had! We were actually supposed to go to the Sushi place across the street but this one caught our eye with the moving light outside the front door and large building. I was not disappointed! After we parked we walked up to the front door and my fiancé was standing in the projection light that projects the restaurant name in the parking lot. We didn't happen to pay attention but their was a manager standing in the foyer so when we opened the door he made a joke and welcomed us in which was a fun experience. She gave us the options and we picked one as we waited on our appetizers. My fiancé was stuck with all the options but he he wanted something that was visually appealing so she provided his options and she nailed it! NEW SUSHI RESTAURANT - SOFT OPENING - MUST TRY! Good to have another sushi restaurant in the area. I really like the long, wide open space with a bar on the one end and the main dining area on the other end. Although our waitress was busy, I appreciated that she checked in on us periodically. She was nice enough to offer some complimentary miso soup along with the salad and green tea! We started with some agedashi tofu and shrimp/vegetable tempura which had a nice crunch with a light, white batter that was freshly fried. Followed by a tonkatsu ramen and sushi dinner. Although the portions and toppings were limited, I liked the bamboo shoots as a topping for the ramen and that the broth wasn't too salty. Also, sushi had a firm and shiny quality without being too chewy along with the rice that held everything together. The worst sushi I've ever had. Grocery store sushi is better than this. The fish and ingredients were spoiled and gave me a stomach ache. For the salmon avocado roll, the salmon pieces were cut irregularly, weirdly colored, and the avocado pieces were rotten. The rolls were sloppily made and tasted horrible; even the rice was bad! The Hanabi roll and califronia rolls were not bad but not great. I also got salmon nigiri - the texture was terrible and they did an awful job trimming the fish, as the dirty, fatty grey pieces were still stuck on the salmon. The spicy tuna roll took the cake for the worst sushi of all time - I have never seen sushi look so pale and grey - definitely not how tuna should be. The picture doesn't capture how foul and unappetizing it was. I will stay far, far away from this restaurant and do not recommend it to anyone. The service wasn't friendly, either. Sushi Hashi is a huge NO from me. I regret trying this place and don't know how anyone could be proud serving food like this. read more

Always excited to see a new sushi spot in town! Went to try for lunch on a Sunday. Unlike most sushi spots in the area, this restaurant is fairly large in size (took over the old Boston Market). Staff is friendly and plenty around to assist. The fish tasted fresh but quantity/size was disappointing at the price point listed. Also, the (already small) chirashi bowl had imitation crab meat which was very disappointing. The chirashi also came on a bed of regular plain sushi rice. The whole point of chirashi is you receive yummy seasoned rice. The toro unagi don was also quite small. Which is cool cause you get to see the innovation in design of the larger platters. Now it is odd since you are not leveled with the bar you're actually a bit lower. So you're looking up at them and trying to get the attention of a server is so awkward you have to look around. They offer a few cocktails and mocktails right now and have a full list of beer/lager/sake. It was a bit difficult to get someone attention to order I kinda of had to make the awkward eye contact before someone walked over to take my order. I mean I was brought tea and it was cold before they took my order that was how long someone took to check on me. It is handy for them to take orders via tablet so that they can verify what you ordered. Decided to get rolls and a sashimi and an appetizer. +tuna trio-$18 Spicy Tuna, Cucumber, Topped with Bluefin Tuna, Albacore, Toro, Avocado, Tobiko +ocean-$17 Lumb Crab, Avocado, Topped with Eel, Avocado, Wasabi sauce, Eel sauce +amberjack jalapeño(4 pcs)-$15 Amberjack sashimi topped with Jalapeno, Cilantro, Garlic, Ponzu and Truffle oil +agadashi tofu- $8 +Botan shrimp nigiri with fried heads-$12 Okay...I really had to limit myself because I was about to order another roll but moderation. So the after placing my order soy sauce was brought out and a mini salad with the typical ginger dressing you expect. Then the agadashi tofu and the amberjack arrived first . I decided to try the amber jack because I didn't want anything to coat the palate before my sashimi experience. But it was good fresh and the mouthfeel of the fish was melty and the small slice of jalapeño kicked it up but not too much to disrupt my fish. The agadashi tofu however...was a miss for me I bit in and was fighting the coating it was crunchy but it was like chewy but you couldn't bite through it and when it was in the broth it got more gummy and the broth was saltier. Probably my least favorite dish The rolls finally came. The star really these were flat out impressive both rolls were fresh and the rice to fish ratio was spot on. Especially on the ocean with the lump crab. Thanks to my server for recommending that versus the Maryland. I've had many rolls in my days so this quality that they using your tasting the true essence of the fish used. Now the sneak attack so that Botan shrimp with fried heads...now the chef forgot it and my server brought me my bill before checking on it. Should've really gave me a courtesy for forgetting and not being attentive. When clearly I am sitting right in front of the sushi bar. But best bite I think of my night the shrimp was buttery and the shrimp heads were so lightly crisp and fried. Perfection really I guess worth the wait? Overall: it's new and working out the kinks I suppose but with so many people standing around near the hostess stand and arms crossed while people watching. Yeah that's an issue when you literally have to stare at people to get attention. Also I'm pretty sure it's Korean owned which a bonus for the Korean community. Maybe if I spoke Korean I would get better service. But again soft opening and I don't eat service I eat food so come for the sushi and the experience Fairfax had a new spot. This place has the most variety out of the local sushi spots here. They also have some of the more unique items too like the squid uni "pasta". My one gripe is the fish isn't always perfectly fresh. One time it was a bit questionable even. read more
