Yummy Japanese BBQ / sushi spot in Mosaic. I will note though I found the sushi better than the meats.

This restaurant is our go-to when in the mood for Japanese bbq. Outstanding service, fresh food, and family friendly ambiance. Get everything on the menu!!

Warm welcome and very attentive staff. It was my first time visiting and didn't understand why a hostess mentioned the 90 minute limit. The restaurant was pretty empty but I assume it's to make sure people don't stick around to talk for hours. I think we went over the time but nobody came to remind us during our stay. The appetizers were delicious such as the seaweed salad. The sushi was amazing! Seafood pancake was pipping hot. Now the meats, I will say that they were extremely delicious but very pricey. I think I'll stick to my regular Korean all you can eat spots and keep this Japanese steakhouse for very special events. Also the desserts were amazing. The decor is beautiful with a relic g Japanese theme.

Very good quality! We ordered a variety of meats and was not disappointed. We also enjoyed the presentation as it matched the quality of the meat!

Halloween night! Decided on gyu shige after a few other restaurant options. We were seated pretty quickly and had attentive staff. The toro tartare was okay..the meat and rice was the main event!! My boyfriend cooked the meat perfectly and it melted in your mouth. There was enough to try in each of the three sauces. I wish they gave u some other side dishes like a soup or small salad dish to cleanse the palate haha. We didn't try the wagyu this time but might next time.

3.5 Rounded up to 4 Ambiance is nice and elegant. Service was good. Food was good. I wasn't blown away, especially if I compare this to other Japanese BBQ restaurants we've been to in the area and in different states. The meat wasn't bad quality, but it wasn't "omg it's melt in your mouth" good. The sauces were OK as well. I will say that our favorite was the prime short rib and the marinated brisket. The sushi was good too. The appetizers were good as well. Overall, I don't have anything bad to say about this place. It just wasn't above-and-beyond to stand out, so I'm not raving over it. Will I come back here? Probably not. I think I get the most out of AYCE with the same quality (if not, better) meat. However, this is a good option if you're on a date and aren't starving for more. *Note: This is not AYCE. It is ala carte.

Third time visiting and still just as good! Now, wishing yakiniku in the US wasn't considered high-end, BUT the meats here are premium and quality, along with the service and experience! Hot Appetizers - I'm a fan of their Lotus Salad, love the crispy lotus root chips and whatever dressing they used! And I loved the little tofu bits! And loved a good grilled squid hehe For the meats, I loved the rib fingers, brisket, and prime short ribs! Rich, juicy, and savory! Now what was interesting to me was that some of meats were marinated, but not complaining LOL On each serving, there's a little card identifying the meat and how long to it for, which is quite helpful.

I've been eyeing this place for a while. We ordered the garlic fried rice and karaage chicken. The rice was rich, you could tell it was cooked in butter. Very flavorful without an overpowering garlic flavor. The chicken was great. Mildly salty but nice and crispy. There was a boiled egg dipping sauce paired with the chicken that was absolutely delicious. The chicken was the clear winner. We ordered through a food delivery service so can't speak to the dining experience but the food was pretty good.

This is our favorite place to go to celebrate. The food is always amazing and the staff is awesome. There is a welcoming environment and a classy but enjoyable feeling. We love the short rib the best. All of their cocktails are amazing. Absolutely recommend for any occasion, celebrations, dates, or even holidays.

I've been to Guy Shige and I'll definitely be going again. From the moment you step foot in the door you feel this welcoming environment! Seated quickly and then greeted by some incredibly friendly people. Our server had some great advice as we were ordering, taking into account or preferences for beef with the zucchinis and king oyster mushrooms, he helped us add a hanger steak cut for variety in marbling and taste. He was attentive, while keeping our waters full and our humors high. The meal was exceptional and easily so much cheaper than expected for what we got.

Came for the first time this past weekend for my mom's birthday. The ambience and aesthetic was a dark black, but so elegant, worthy of her birthday! Our waiter, Patrick was kind, quick, and friendly. Fried rice- 5/5 We ordered fried rice, which had chewy rice, corn, beef (which we reheated on the stove), fresh garlic slices, it was really good! Takoyaki - 5/5 Fresh, and a lot of squid. Perfect amount of chewiness! Hangar steak- 4/5 what you'd expect, but no marinade so could be better. Brisket- 4/5 what you'd expect Outside skirt- 5/5 SO tender and so yummy, we ordered it twice! Pork cheek- 4/5 chewy texture, very good, good marinade Prime short rib- 2/5 usually, I thought this was the galbi at AYCE, but I didn't like this one very much, it was too gamey. Seafood soup- 5/5 WOULD GET AGAIN!! So delicious and the right amount of spice, so much seafood, (shrimp, cucumber, clam, squid, tofu, raw egg,) They had a birthday celebration for my mom, bringing out 3 Mochi ice creams, (matcha was the best, vanilla was the second fav with bits of chocolate chip inside, and passion fruit was so sour we couldn't finish it!) Overall, what a great first time experience and what great cuts of meat! We had a lovely time! Shoutout to our attentive waiter, Patrick, and another waiter who warned us that the pork cheek catches on fire easily! We were extra careful with that one! Thank you! It is Mom approved!

    Clarisa T.

Went for a friends birthday and it was amazing! The server described the plates we asked about and even gave thorough instructions/assistance for the cooking part. Super cute complimentary mochi for birthdays! Drinks were decent but very much for the aesthetic but the food was so good! Definitely make sure to get the snap peas and the cheese mochi for side dishes, so good!

My mom and I were visiting my sister and BIL during the winter, and my mom loves KBBQ. Gye Shige was definitely nicer than the typical KBBQ we're used to. There was wagyu, and prices were on the higher end, but the quality was incredible. I typically eat red meat only when it's KBBQ, and I enjoyed everything so much I forgot to take pictures. The dessert was fluffy and not too sweet - major Asian compliment!

The bad thing about Genki Izakaya is how crowded it can be. I'm not sure I would show up without reservations again. I've been there 3 times, the first time we didn't have a reservation and the hostess seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. She said the waitlist was very long. We decided not to wait. The second time we also didn't have a reservation and the hostess again seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. This time we did wait and were quoted 1.5 hours and it actually took about an hour. Not as bad as quoted but still busy! Third time we finally had a reservation and it still took us 20 mins to get seated as they did not have a table ready for us. To be honest the restaurant itself seems too small, they probably could be twice as big. The reason is the food at Genki Izakaya is in my opinion the best of the 3 Izakayas in the area. The Yakitori is good, hot and reasonably priced although I wish they would let you customize the $20 Yakitori Platter. I tried the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Hot Stone and was surprised that they cook it for you instead of you cooking it yourself on the hot stone. The waiter overcooked 2 pieces of the Wagyu which is annoying when it is so expensive but overall it tasted great. I like their Tonkotsu Ramen, it broth tastes great and I've had ramen all over this area, in New York City, LA area, Tokyo and Kyoto. It isn't the best I've ever tasted but it is really good especially for this area. Once seated the service is good and the food comes out quickly and everything we've had has tasted great. The only problem is how crowded it can be because its so popular! Only bad thing for us is it isn't too close about a 45 min drive but worthwhile - definitely try it if you like Izakayas and Japanese food.

If you are in the need of a nice warm yummy broth - then you will not be disappointed by the halal chicken ramen. This is by the far the tastiest ramen I have ever had. ( also - add spice to your order because it needs that extra "kick"). We usually order one bowl and I do ask them for an extra bowl so that we can half it between two people. It is quite a lot for one person. ( well for me anyway). I can only comment on two types of sushi that I tried and every time I had it - well it was delicious. The salmon and avocado rolls and the red dragon roll. You just can't go wrong on that order. The ambience - they have booth tables and there are signs that say you should not clean your table after you are done as they clean up - which is awesome. Drinks are in the refrigerator on the side so you can help yourself to that when you purchase it. You can order at the counter or from a self service kiosk ( they only have one - which is quite annoying when you have to wait to order). If I had to think of a few minor improvements - they have soy sauce on the tables but I wish they had a low sodium soy sauce to offer as well. I also think that if the place got busy ordering would be an issue as they have one person taking orders and one self service kiosk. But those items are minor and I will always keep coming back for the delicious food!

I'd recommend getting the chili oil to complete the taste if you are ok with a little spicy. The marinated beef was cooked to perfection in the Sukiyaki. I also tried their seaweed salad which tasted fresh and had the right amount of seasoning. And their Takoyaki was cooked perfectly and had a good amount of octopus inside. Restaurant inside is bit on the small side but they do have bar counter-style seating too. Tables have been on the cleaner side compared to other restaurants of this price range. If you come to Kajiken expecting a traditional steaming bowl of ramen, recalibrate. This is abura…read moresoba country -- and they do it exceptionally well. For the uninitiated, abura soba is a brothless ramen where the magic happens at the bottom of the bowl. A savory aromatic oil and tare base sit beneath springy, chewy noodles, topped with a silky poached egg and classic ramen accoutrements. The key is to mix thoroughly -- really commit -- until the egg emulsifies with the oil and sauce, coating every strand in glossy, umami-packed richness. The texture is the standout. The noodles have a satisfying chew that holds up against the weight of the oil without becoming heavy. It's indulgent but not cloying. The customization element elevates the experience: a drizzle of chili oil adds warmth and depth, while a splash of vinegar cuts through the richness with bright acidity. Dial it in to your preference and the bowl transforms in real time. If you're a fan of Chinese scallion oil noodles or Korean jajangmyeon, you'll recognize the comfort-food DNA here -- but abura soba feels more refined and layered. The flavor is concentrated, savory, and deeply satisfying without relying on broth. This is the kind of spot that knows exactly what it is and executes with confidence. A refreshing change from the ramen norm and absolutely worth the visit. Bonus points for the casual kid friendly atmosphere and also offering traditional soup ramen and donburi for less adventurous dining companions.

My adventurous eater and I tried out Sushi Koji after rugby yesterday. It was a real treat. Our…read moreserver was very helpful in helping us decide what to get, and we thought we would try sashimi (after reading reviews about the place) as well as noodles. Fellow Yelpers did not steer us wrong! We ordered Otoro (fatty tuna) and sake belly (salmon belly) sashimi, listed as 3 pieces each. We also ordered tempura udon, a shrimp tempura roll*, takoyaki, and mentaiko butter udon (off the specials menu). Let me begin by saying the space is clean, roomy, and well-decorated. We enjoyed looking at the artwork and figurines, which included anime figures that we recognized. There were many tables, and though they may be physically close together, there is enough separation to be comfortable without being on top of each other or feeling cramped. There was a family of five that was seated next to us partway through the meal, and I never felt like the noise level changed or that we suddenly felt as if there were more people around. The takoyaki came out covered in bonito flakes. The sauce was a perfect blend of tempered spicy mayo as my adventurous eater enjoyed it without being overwhelmed by heat. The bites were well-sized as not to be too large, but we were able to bite in without burning our tongues our with the right balance of batter and octopus, and we both enjoyed it greatly. The sashimi came out with the shrimp tempura roll on a beautifully arranged boat - 4 pieces each! We each tried two pieces of otoro and sake belly, and the pieces just melted into our mouth. The otoro was garnished with what appeared to be hint of wasabi and maybe chopped jalapeño, which was too much for my adventurous eater to try, so I gently scraped it off. Neither of us were able to taste anything but the well-chosen slices of fatty tuna, which were a hit. We then tried the sake belly which were garnished with a sliver of fried garlic and garlic paste. Again, I scraped it off for the adventurous eater, who then raved about how delicious it was! I tried it with the garlic and agreed. The garlic was perfectly fried, and was the right amount not to overwhelm the delicate buttery texture and flavor of the salmon belly. Although, I will admit - while it's a nice flavor to add, the sashimi itself didn't need anything to be added. The tempura udon came out, with perfectly battered pieces - 2 shrimp, an asparagus, an onion ring, a slice of sweet potato, and a slice of eggplant. My adventurous eater attacked the shrimp while I munched on veggies. The batter was crispy, light, and not greasy. My mentaiko butter udon came out and I am so glad I ordered it! There was a little nest of noodles, with two halves of a soft-boiled egg, and plenty of creamy sauce. The menu described the dish as buttery and umami and it did not deceive. The udon was perfectly chewy and slurpable, coated with delicious creamy sauce. I debating mixing in the eggs because they looked so perfect, so I dipped one half in the sauce instead and ate that whole, before mixing in the other half into my bowl. Even my adventurous eater tried a little bit of my udon and agreed that it was delicious! Not having had mentaiko butter before, I looked it up before writing this review. The dish is described as being a spicy-fish roe butter sauce, but what we are talking about is a very mild heat. The dish was warming, tasty, and very comforting. It was also surprisingly light considering the buttery richness of the flavors. I finished every last bit of the noodles in my bowl and drank the rest of the sauce, with all the fish roe stirred in. I may have also commented a couple of times on how phenomenal the dish was. That was when our server shared that it was the first day it had been on the menu, so they were looking for feedback. I would say that the dish alone is worth checking out, but I feel like you will keep coming back due to the quality of everything else. I think this place is a gem and I will definitely look for excuses to return to Oakton to eat there again. Between the friendly service, the cheerful ambiance, and the amazing food, this is hitting all the right notes! * My adventurous eater filled up on everything else before even getting to the shrimp tempura roll, so we ended up packing up the rest of the udon and the shrimp tempura roll to bring home. Due to life, the roll never made it into the fridge, so we tragically had to toss it without trying it. I wish I could tell you how it was, but I can say the roll was beautifully formed and served and looked absolutely delicious. This is where I wish I had taken pictures of everything.

I initially thought it would be mostly rolls, but it leaned more toward nigiri. That said, everything was super fresh and really well prepared, so no complaints there. I recently started eating seafood again after years of avoiding it, so I have been easing into it, and this was actually a really good place to do that. The fish tasted fresh, clean, and not overly fishy, which made it a lot easier to enjoy. The Osaka roll, which our server recommended, was really good, but my favorite was definitely the paradise roll from the sushi boat. Anything with shrimp tempura is a win for me, and this one hit the spot. The ambiance is cute, cozy, and on the smaller side, which made the whole experience feel more quiet and intimate. It did not feel rushed at all, which I appreciated, especially since we were breaking our fast. We ended up taking a lot of food to go because the portions were so generous, and surprisingly, everything still tasted fresh and delicious even the next two days. The only downside is that it is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, portions, and overall experience helped justify it. Overall, great quality sushi, generous portions, and a calm, intimate vibe. Definitely a spot I would come back to, especially if I am in the mood for fresh sushi without a loud or hectic atmosphere.

We were seated right away in one of the upstairs honeycomb booths for two, which honestly made the whole visit feel unique and memorable. The interior is super modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed, and the atmosphere felt very similar to the Kyuramen location in Orlando, FL. The ramen gets the job done, but the broth lacked a little depth and richness, even after adding the table seasonings. At nearly $18 a bowl, I expected a bit more flavor-wise. The pork belly was definitely the standout though, tender. Also appreciated the free 2-hour parking garage next door (they will validate it) which made visiting really convenient and fast.

The service here is excellent. We were seated and given menus and water immediately, and the staff was attentive and friendly throughout our meal. They even have a call button at the table which was convenient. The interior is incredibly cute and interactive - they have wooden ornaments you can write on and "surprise bowls" where you can win free drinks or desserts. For the food, the appetizer platter is a great deal for the price and offers a nice variety. The popcorn chicken had a great Sichuan kick that I really enjoyed but wasn't overly spicy. I was really excited for the beef ramen, but it was a massive letdown. The beef itself was super tough and lacked flavor. While the broth was well balanced and clean, there simply wasn't enough of it - even though I asked to skip the corn. It feels like this place focuses a lot of energy on the interior decor, promos, and aesthetics, while the quality of the main entrees hasn't quite caught up. Because the core dish missed the mark, I don't think I'd come back.
