Love a good Japanese BBQ, and Gyu Shige never disappoints! I've been here a couple of times now, and each visit has been consistently great, from the quality of the food to the friendly service. Our table ordered a variety of meats, and our favorites were the Prime Short Ribs, Beef Tongue, and Rib Fingers. Everything was fresh and well-marinated. We also shared the Garlic Beef Fried Rice and the Corn Cheese. The fried rice was flavorful, well-seasoned, and a generous portion that's perfect for sharing. The only letdown was the Corn Cheese. It was much heavier on the cheese than the corn, lacked flavor, and ended up being pretty underwhelming. The restaurant itself is spacious, with plenty of indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. read more

This place is an absolute must try if you are looking to indulge in quality food while being served by excellent, knowledgeableX and friendly staff. It should be noted the menu is a little pricey but well worth it especially if you are celebrating a big occasion. We were very impressed with the menu offering and absolutely had to get the Kobe Beef because there are only a handful of places you can get Kobe beef served with this type of quality. They present the certificate of authenticity which really adds to the experience. The beef was cooked delicately with a light sear and served medium rare which goes the perfect buttery bite. Highly recommend. We also got the pork jowl and the kurobuta pork belly. Normally the pork belly is a bit but it was pretty average so I'll probably pass next time. The pork jowl was really tasty and had a nice bite. You can just eat meat if you want to get the full experience. We highly recommend the steamed egg as well as the tuna with taro chips for the perfect balanced meal. Can't say enough great things about this place... looking forward to coming again! read more

One of my best mom friends and I decided to go to dinner last minute with all of our kids. I was definitely nervous because our two toddlers are a little on the crazy side. I think what probably made our service and Guy Shige stand out the most is our server Laila. She was very accommodating with bringing us multiple high chairs and taking our orders almost as soon as we sat down. We ordered a lot of food and wanted to try multiple drinks and Laila really took her time explaining all the different drinks and making great ig worth recommendations. During dinner there were multiple times where our crazy toddlers threw items on the floor etc and Laila was quick to come by and sweep things up and replace utensils etc. All of the food and drinks were delicious and we truly had a great time. Warm welcome and very attentive staff. It was my first time visiting and didn't understand why a hostess mentioned the 90 minute limit. The restaurant was pretty empty but I assume it's to make sure people don't stick around to talk for hours. I think we went over the time but nobody came to remind us during our stay. The appetizers were delicious such as the seaweed salad. The sushi was amazing! Seafood pancake was pipping hot. Now the meats, I will say that they were extremely delicious but very pricey. I think I'll stick to my regular Korean all you can eat spots and keep this Japanese steakhouse for very special events. Also the desserts were amazing. Halloween night! Decided on gyu shige after a few other restaurant options. We were seated pretty quickly and had attentive staff. The toro tartare was okay..the meat and rice was the main event!! My boyfriend cooked the meat perfectly and it melted in your mouth. There was enough to try in each of the three sauces. I wasn't blown away, especially if I compare this to other Japanese BBQ restaurants we've been to in the area and in different states. The meat wasn't bad quality, but it wasn't "omg it's melt in your mouth" good. The sauces were OK as well. I will say that our favorite was the prime short rib and the marinated brisket. The sushi was good too. The appetizers were good as well. Overall, I don't have anything bad to say about this place. It just wasn't above-and-beyond to stand out, so I'm not raving over it. Third time visiting and still just as good! Now, wishing yakiniku in the US wasn't considered high-end, BUT the meats here are premium and quality, along with the service and experience! Hot Appetizers - I'm a fan of their Lotus Salad, love the crispy lotus root chips and whatever dressing they used! And I loved the little tofu bits! Gyu Shige is half delicious meal out and half performance as you play the role of chef at your table.  The staff makes this very easy to do with easy to understand instructions and any help you may need.  We had a great time working together as a team to place, time, turn and serve the various cuts of meat and fish we enjoyed.  We used our phone as a timer but it might have been nice to have a set of small hour glasses on the table or other timers there just in case.  The meats we chose were the brisket, spicy pork belly and hangar steak.  We also grilled the miso salmon which merrily bubbled in its tinfoil boat on the grill.  All the meats were tender and tasty (thank you chef!    )  To round out our lunch, we had the seafood pancake which was crispy and a good size.  The gyozo came with a yummy skirt fried around the edges and the tempura were also nice and crunchy.  The space is large and comfortable and, on a cold day, that little brazier in the middle of your table is awesome for warming everyone up!  The service was super. I've been eyeing this place for a while. We ordered the garlic fried rice and karaage chicken. The rice was rich, you could tell it was cooked in butter. Very flavorful without an overpowering garlic flavor. The chicken was great. Mildly salty but nice and crispy. It was close by and even knowing that going in I knew it was going to pricey I thought it would be an interesting experience to see what the differences were between here and other spots. From reading reviews, I knew that this place was going to be a la carte. Knowing that and seeing the prices per dish it will get very pricey. They also have other types of dishes such as karaage, udon, sushi, etc. So technically you don't have to get jbbq and you could substitute food with other dishes. Now what I thought: For the price, I sort of expected more. How? Well, I thought that service would be more. Instead, you're cooking your own meats. I mean, even some kbbq spots will come and cook the meats for you. I think the only thing I got from the waiter was telling me how long to cook it for. For those who don't know how to bbq, I would keep it in mind and would probably tell you not to come here because not only would you be wasting the meats, but it's pricey. Also, they never changed the grill the whole time we were there. The upside of this place though would be that the quality of the meat and cuts were good, even though was pricey. The marinades on the meats though were good. Even if the amount that you pay for don't quite equal the service, I think that price went towards the meat and the marinades for the meats. I enjoyed this part of Gyu Shige. I do wish though they had combo meals or like combo sets. I think that would be more worth it even though if you have to cook it yourself. Overall, Gyu Shige is alright. I think I would rather go to a KBBQ spot, however if you're in the mood for not just bbq, but other dishes along with it, I think this would be a good spot. read more

Took my brother here recently (his first time) and it's still a solid spot. Had the Brisket, Spicy Pork Belly, Tendon of Hanger, and Prime Short Ribs Bone-In. All were good, but for the price point and flavor, you guys can't go wrong with the Brisket, Pork Belly, and Tendon of Hanger. Even my brother enjoyed the Brisket and Pork Belly the most (which was what we really liked previously too). The Winter In Hokkaido and The Grinch drinks were pretty good. I preferred Grinch, but Winter in Hokkaido was pretty. We tried the Korean Seafood Pancake as well, I wouldn't get it again, it wasn't very crispy and not much seafood/flavor. read more

I've been to Guy Shige and I'll definitely be going again. From the moment you step foot in the door you feel this welcoming environment! Seated quickly and then greeted by some incredibly friendly people. Our server had some great advice as we were ordering, taking into account or preferences for beef with the zucchinis and king oyster mushrooms, he helped us add a hanger steak cut for variety in marbling and taste. My mom and I were visiting my sister and BIL during the winter, and my mom loves KBBQ. Gye Shige was definitely nicer than the typical KBBQ we're used to. There was wagyu, and prices were on the higher end, but the quality was incredible. I typically eat red meat only when it's KBBQ, and I enjoyed everything so much I forgot to take pictures. I visited Gyu Shige on Valentine's Day, and upon arrival, the hosts at the front desk were handing out roses to all parties--such a sweet touch. In general, I'd consider this a more intimate restaurant, with dim lighting and fireplaces playing on TVs. It's perfect for a date night, but I've also been here with friends on multiple occasions. Service is usually outstanding. While our server on this visit wasn't the most attentive, I've never had an issue before--if anything, service here typically exceeds my expectations. Joe, the manager, is very kind and has personally checked in on us (and other nearby tables) during past visits. Servers Julie, Kevin, and Zhen are also really great. The food has been consistently excellent every time. The meat selections are incredibly tender, with the rich marbling of high-end cuts. I highly recommend trying the wagyu--especially the wagyu cubes, which are my favorite. The sushi is also a great choice, with the baked lobster roll being my personal favorite. My wife and I had an unbelievable time here. The most amazing part of our evening was our server, Justin. From start to finish, his service was truly five stars. What Justin didn't know was that my wife and I had received devastating news just one day prior and needed to get away. We went with the Shabu Shabu salad (very good but it was strange to have a cold salad with cold meat on it), Hamachi Jalapeño Tuna and the Tuna Lobster Roll (also very good but strange to have cold fish wrapped around warm baked lobster). Really wish they'd had some of their oysters but unfortunately they were out. For meats we ordered the boneless prime rib (unmarinated but good), Yozu Jalapeño Shrimp, Spicy Pork Belly. Everything was excellent but we also ordered asparagus and it was $7 for 6 tiny stalks of asparagus which I thought was pretty outrageous. I mean everything here is pricey but that one seemed excessive. For sushi we got tuna nigiri and sashimi, salmon nigiri and sashimi, yellowtail nigiri and sashimi and then got the King Salmon Roll and the Yellowtail Special Roll. An amazing experience overall! First of all the atmosphere is beautiful and intimate. Service was top-notch. Our group of 4 ordered several appetizers, a sushi/sashimi platter that came out with eye-catching steam, and many different meats for the grill. The chutoro (medium fatty tuna) nigiri was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth tender and I highly recommend it. The scallops and duck breast were our table's favorites among grilled foods. Gyu Shige was my first ever JBBQ experience. My friend brought me here for dinner and I'm happy I got to give it a try! The cuts of meat that they serve are seasoned very well and are very delicious, although quite small. Our server was very knowledgable and kind. My favorite item was the beef brisket (pictured below). It came with a marinade and was absolutely fire. The short rib was also very good, albeit small. We had a reservation here for our anniversary on a Wednesday night and were seated quickly in a nice quiet corner. You do have put in a credit card when making a reservation, but it's not charged. The drinks are always amazing. I've tried something different each time and they have great selections for cocktails. To start, we had the flaming tuna roll which was outstanding. It was so fresh and had a great kick to it. It is a little pricey for what it is, but to be fair this isn't the cheapest place to eat regardless. We ordered the spicy pork belly which was so tender and flavorful, zucchini, truffle wagyu fried rice (comes with maybe 5 pieces of wagyu), and the boneless short rib. The pork belly definitely had much more flavor. The service is always very accommodating, quick, and friendly. It's a dark restaurant but has bright lights above each table. This place has gone completely downhill. I went to Gyu Shige Japanese BBQ and Bar about a year ago and had a decent experience, which is the only reason I decided to come back with a friend. That turned out to be a huge mistake. Everything that was once acceptable is now flat-out bad. The service was chaotic and careless--long waits, staff who seemed overwhelmed or uninterested, and absolutely no sense of urgency. We had to flag people down repeatedly for basic things, and even then it felt like we were inconveniencing them. I'm not sure whether the staff is unmotivated or if something has fundamentally changed, but the difference is glaring. The food quality has taken a serious nosedive. The meat was mediocre at best, poorly cut, and absolutely not worth the inflated prices. Prices have clearly increased while quality has decreased. Portions were badly trimmed, with excess fat and tough gristle left on the meat. Flavors were lacking, sauces didn't seem properly mixed, and when we accidentally burned some of the meat, no one checked on us or offered help or a replacement--it felt like no one was paying attention at all. For a Japanese BBQ restaurant, that's embarrassing. The environment was the final nail in the coffin. What used to feel lively now feels messy and poorly managed. The vibe was stressful instead of enjoyable, and the overall cleanliness and organization were noticeably worse than before. To make matters worse, the restrooms didn't even have toilet paper. We brought this up to the staff afterward, but it only added to the frustration. It's honestly shocking how much this place has declined in just one year. Between the poor service, low-quality food, and unpleasant atmosphere, there's no reason to return. There are plenty of better options elsewhere with better quality and value--this place is no longer worth your time or money. read more
