My husband and I just relocated out here from the Seattle/Tacoma area and have been dying to find a nice sushi place! Considering the fact that I've lived most of my adult life in the very-cultured west coast, I was skeptical to find anything close to what I enjoyed in WA and CA. Hubby decided to look up sushi places on good ol' Yelp and we thought the reviews for Arigato Sayonara were promising-- thankfully after our visit we agree!! :D We split 5 different rolls and a bowl of chicken fried rice, which was to die for!!! With tip, we paid about $40, which is decently priced... we were incredibly happy with service and food, so overall, I thought it was worth a few minutes of my time to write a review! read more

We are new to this side of town and have started searching for a couple of sushi restaurants that we can enjoy eating at. My daughter and I went here due to the high ratings it received, however we left extremely disappointed. The food was below average compared to other sushi places we have experienced. It had very little flavor and was overwhelmingly drenched in the sauces which took away any flavor left of the sushi. Not only that but we only ordered 3 rolls to share and each had miso soup and the bill was over $50, that was very dissapointing, needless to say we will not return. read more

I found this restaurant from yelp iPhone app, when taking a long road trip. Without too much of thinking, I chose the bento box: shrimp roll and tough teriyaki. Best ever! Great Sushi! Especially for a place tucked away in a strip mall. My wife and I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We got some water and some veggie gyoza to start things off. We asked the waitress for her sushi recommendations and we used that as guide to order two rolls, Rob's roll and the Hot Mama roll. After a decent while, the waitress came back to tell us that they were out of veggie gyoza so we ordered some shrimp shumai. Luckily it took just a short time for the shumai to come out. Our sushi came out shortly thereafter as well. My wife were so pleased with our choices in sushi and the combination of flavors in each roll was just great. The shumai were very tasty as well. The service was all around pretty good. A minor hiccup in that they were out of veggie gyoza but that situation was quickly rectified. We left with our stomach full of great sushi. We will have to remember this place the next time we are in the mood for sushi instead of heading into the city. But when were in the area, this place definitely meets our asian(japanese) need. read more

The first time we went the food was spectacular and the presentation was beautiful.... Second time we went the food was good but not as good and the presentation was ok... The third time we went the food was thrown on a plate with no regard to presentation and the sushi was stale and the rolls were falling apart and it was all just terrible, and that sucks because we spent 100$ on it.... I will not go back there... I guess they only try to show off the first time you go... I dunno maybe the chef had a bad night but they lost a customer... This is my hands down, number 1 sushi spot. Started eating here around 8 years ago and was a regular. Opened, owned and run by a very friendly korean guy named Jay and his wife. He left to pursue other endeavors around 3-4 years ago. It was at this time that there was some tapering off of quality... And friendliness. I gradually lost interest as time passed, then a couple months ago I stopped in for lunch to find Jay returned and some pleasant interior changes.The fried rice has always been one of my faves (along with scallop and shrimp tempura) and Jays sushi is consistently the best I've found. They have a challenging location which is kinda tucked away on the far side of pier one in river gate but the prices, atmosphere and food are very tough to beat. Get. You. Some! read more

Sushi is fresh and made to order. I've only seen one lady working as a server so if they get busy service can be slow.

I lived in Seattle for many years and when I relocated to northern Nashville, the one thing I truly missed was fresh, quality, sushi. It went (and continues to go) above and beyond my expectations. The service is wonderful. Our waitress is always attentive and our food is always fantastic. The Crunchy Munchy roll is one of my favs, as is the Green Dragon. My bf LOVES the Volcano roll and Rob's roll. To be honest though, we haven't had a single thing that isn't fabulous. Another point I should probably make: The price for what you're getting (Ie fresh seafood, attentive service, and a quiet ambiance) is great. It is also less expensive than some of their competitors (and they also have better tasting rolls). Definitely a great place for date night! read more

Went back to this place after about a three month absence, to find that the ownership had changed. Now it was all lit up like a nightclub, playing weird rave music. The menu didn't change, but the flavor definitely has. Don't know that I'll go back, as I was a bit heartbroken. read more

Best Sushi in Nashville! Great prices to boot!

I've been here several times and have usually enjoyed it; however, today was a different story. I order salmon, white tuna, tuna, and octopus nigiri. Everything I ate tasted old and was dry. The miso soup didn't have any tofu or seaweed in it, just a bowl of miso paste broth. The octopus was the nastiest of them all. I've been eating octopus nigiri for 16 years and it's always had a firm chewy texture to it. Today, at Arigato, it had the consistency of snot. It was so slimy and nasty. I showed the waitress and she said, "it was probably under cooked" and would take it off my bill. 5 minutes later the owner/sushi chef (I'm assuming) came over and scolded me in front of the restaurant and told me it was made right and then he started to walk away mumbling something under his breath as I was still trying to talk to him. Yes, it was taken off my bill but I do not appreciate how I was talked to or treated for pointing out how he messed up the sushi. I will not be going back here, ever again, and I will post this review on every website available. Pictures of the nasty octopus will be posted as well. You can see in the pics that it is firm around the edges but slimy in the middle. I should have stopped eating when I got to the tuna and it tasted like tuna out of a can (which fresh tuna nigiri does NOT taste like). The food is good but the owner ripped us off. Their coupon has all these fine prints. First time we tried to use the coupon, the owner said we couldn't because we had the Monday special and they wouldn't make any money this way. So two of us ended up paying more than 60 dollars. Second time we didn't learn, when we tried to use the coupon again, we were told that we couldn't use it because we ordered the combos. So the owner billed all the items in the two combos separately at their orginal prices and boosted the bill up to nearly 60 bucks again. And we had to pay 40 dollars with the 20 dollar coupon. We will not return. And I am going to try to find the receipt. read more

They have a Asia Grocery store connected to the restaurant...it has only been open 3 months. They also remodeled the inside sense I last went. The reason I have ate elsewhere is the price is higher than others close by and it wasnt that much better for the price. Although it is slightly better. But the owner said in April he will have a new menu and more specials like dollar sushi and a lot others. Like 10 dollar chirashi... which normally costs 15 dollars or more. So I am definitely coming back and if the quality doesnt slip to much then u can bet I will be a regular. read more

Apparently the restaurant Arigato Sayonara in Rivergate next to Pier One in rivergate is only for certain customers.. This is 2nd time, I hadn't plan on going back... I can't post on their page, because of my 1 star rating ... My kids love sushi, and my mom tempted to take them there tonight, again they don't get acknowledged .. asked if they would like to order... anything... If a customer walks into a business... What should happen??? A woman comes to the register and still acts like she don't see... I guess they were they wrong customers.. Huge selection and quality fish for a good price! This chef knows his trade. Really, everything is great about this place! Even when (one time) I didn't get what I ordered, I was graced with a sushi roll at no cost...and it became one of my favorites I order all the time! The Nashville roll. Yum...and fitting!!! Found this little gem while working ... awesome creative rolls.. as well as standbys we all know and love. Authentic .... and you can buy kimchee next door along with various dry noodles.. mushrooms and selected sauces and frozen items.
