I've used for brakes, tires, oil change, sticker and yesterday, I came to him yesterday as an emergency because I had a car battery I had replaced by AAA die overnight in my driveway.. I got a jump from AAA in single-digit temps, and was worried a fuse/wire was draining. He gave me good advice to go get the battery checked at AutoZone where I'd bought, since it was still under warranty and they can check the Cold-firing-Charge and replace it. He literally stopped what he was doing to give me this help, free of charge, and talk through all options. I appreciate that he's honest, explanative and never up-sells. He is also fantastic to the community, he has hosted his corner lot for town events, including bands playing outside for porch fest. I called this place on a Sunday... since I found it open when many others in my vicinity were closed. We had bought a car the day before and there was a problem I was calling about to see if I could get help. Abe came TO MY HOUSE and checked the car and then I went to his shop where he fixed something under the car that the dealership had failed to secure after inspection. Abe did not charge me a dime. DO NOT GO, especially to get your inspection sticker renewed. The idiot here failed my car because my headlights were 'too dim' and because my exhaust was 'weak'. After he failed my car for these ridiculous reasons, he insisted that I come in to the garage so he could lecture me about why he failed my car. Keep in mind that my lights were actually working and my exhaust wasn't making any noise or rattling. I called my mechanic and told him why my car failed and he said it sounded ridiculous. Rather than waste money replacing my fully functional headlights, my mechanic suggested I just try to get my inspection done elsewhere. I just took my car to another inspection facility and it passed. These people are incompetent morons and crooks. Stay away. read more

I went to Abe for check engine light on, and he changed the oxygen sensors with aftermarket parts and charged me $629.00 and the engine light came on the minute after i drove out of his driveway.He tried to fix the problem for a month and a half claiming he was waiting on original parts from Toyota and then claimed he changed them.Drove out the driveway and the light comes on right away again.After all of that i got a sense of Abe not being honest with me and ended up just cutting my losses .Don't waste your time with a mechanic who does't speak the truth ,and does't follow up with his words. They mark up the parts and charge extra hours of labor for bad job. They have charged me four hours of labor only to change the tensioner belt and tensioner and left one bolt loose making a noise. When asked to fix it they said they will be fixing it during the next repair when I change the suspension, it's just noise. That bolt can only be accessed from the bottom while working on the suspension, which doesn't make any sense! Never went there again. That was the last repair from them. read more

I tried this station (formerly known as Arlington Global at 334 Massachusetts Avenue) on and off for over 8 years. The new paint job for the building is unique. On the surface they are polite fellas but you may get gouged price wise, be lied to and even have things lost or stolen. The service (disservice) I received has been horrible and dishonest. My car was kept outdoors for 5 days, overnight with the windows down. Even after telling them twice --on two different days--- to lock my car, I was simply told they have security cameras. Crazy! What about bugs, rodents, privacy and yes theft risk. I talked to the man pumping gas on a weekend about my car being left out (who lied). He says "The car was just moved outdoors a few minutes ago and it was inside all night." --My hood is cold like ice. I drove by the station each night late after work and see my car outside with the windows open .my car completely unlocked. The gas attdt. tells me to speak to the mechanic. The mechanic inside says my car hasn't been inside at all . Why all the lying even when they are caught lying? Why would a place put a good customer's car at risk? I was told by Abe, the owner to have my car to him "first thing in the morning" so he could get to it right away. I called at 4:30 that day and he hadn't even gotten to the car yet. He repeats like a Mantra " I'll call you later" I've never had him call me once. I call him hours and hours later and usually nothing's been done with the car. Four days later (yes 4 days) I asked when it would be done. That day he says he will have the car to me at 5 pm. I arrive at 6 and again the car isn't ready as he guaranteed. I asked why he didn't call to at least report this problem. Suffice to say as a working person, I lost a great deal of work time leaving my car with him sitting un-examined for 5 days ! At each face to face encounter, it was always that he was going to get to it that day. Over and over again. I was overcharged on parts. I called the same dealerships that Abe called for genuine parts and am quoted prices from $30 to $50 less than he charged. I was radically overcharged. There are three to four brand name dealerships in a 25 mile radius so this not hard to contact these suppliers. This happened before at his shop with a battery that his parts price showed again to be about $30 over the prices at every local parts supplier. It is my fault that I came back to this shop. 4 years ago he was fixing something and my car was left out , windows down and again told each day he'd get to the car. Not sure why I went back. Granted they're friendly there but they're not reliable, not honest, not fair or in a deeper sense kind. I recognize some people are having good experiences....I'd say just wait and see or read about these consistent bad experiences as they are all similar. 6 years back he did a muffler and after installation (immediately after driving off his shop) it rattled like a can full of ball bearings . I told him to please fix it and he said his lift was broken. As I drove by the shop later that day and the next day, cars were up and down his lift. This is out and out lying...for what? We're a good family, good people and very polite. Do nice people finish last in this world? Seems so. Go elsewhere if you value integrity, honesty or at least value fairness for all customers. I should have read the reviews and simply thought about this based on my own past experiences. Plenty of other shops that care more in the area. read more

NEVER, EVER, Say "No rush" to Abe. Telling him "work on it when you have time, I know you're busy" left my car sitting there, FOR 8, YES, EIGHT F-N MONTHS, when I wanted to have it looked at, to see what it needed to get "road ready". After the 8months had expired, Abe continued to tell me 3 times he'd look at it next week, or come by tomorrow, or some other shit. He comes across as a nice guy, with his demeanor, but is OFTEN, NOT LISTENING TO A WORD YOUR SAYING, and sidetracked with phone ringing, or friends of his appearing at the station that have priority over you. I dropped my car off at 11 am for 2 simple repairs and came back to pick it up at noon. The charge for labor came to $180. When I asked the man helping me what their hourly charge for labor was, he said $75/hour. I then asked why the labor charge was $180, and he responded that he had to bill for two men to work on it because one of them had to call the Honda dealership to get a code to reprogram the radio. First of all, the math does not add up. $75 times 2 is $150, not $180. Secondly, I find it disingenuous that I would be charged an additional hours labor just because someone had to make a phone call. The receipt was not itemized with the hourly charge or time, and I when I asked for detail, I did not feel the man was being honest with me. My bad for not asking for a quote beforehand, but he told me repeatedly that the repairs were very simple, so I assumed the standard hourly rate would apply. I'm always paranoid about getting ripped off by mechanics, so I want to share with as many people as I can when I find a great one! Our trusty honda was making some crazy noises the past few weeks, and we finally took it in to have it checked, and it turns out that the front break pads were worn to nothing!! Abe didn't try to upsell us by telling us to replace the back pads, and he also helped us put in an air filter free of charge. I looked up the prices for the work done, and it is on the low end for this area. The job was done quickly, and the car has been problem-free since. Unbeknownst to me, I had a nail in my tire. I was looking to put some air in my tire for what I thought was a slow leak. It was a Saturday evening, just after 6:00 p.m., well after service hours. This is by far the best auto repair location I have ever been too. The shop is located in the Global Service Station on Mass Ave just a bit down from Alewife Brook parkway and run by Abe, who is a stellar mechanic and used to be an engineer for Mercedes and BMW. I used to go to another garage, in Brookline - which wasn't bad, especially since I have a 94' Chevy with over 100K miles. However, I live in Somerville so when my radio died over a year ago I looked for something closer to my place to install the new $90 radio I bought. I must have had a lot of good karma that day for stopping by and talking to Abe. I asked him how much it would be to install the radio and he said $90, which I thought was ridiculous since the radio itself cost that much. However, when I checked around, I found out that he actually offered a better deal than anywhere else. Anyway, in the end I went back to have him install the radio, and stayed around to see him doing all the work because I was curious. Because a lot of connections were shorted from the old radio's malfunction, it took more than four hours to get the new radio working (which was done twice, since the first one was faulty and replaced at the store), including a few little extra parts. I wanted to compensate him for his time, but Abe wouldn't accept a.single penny more than what we first agreed. I've been taking my car there for everything and recommending the shop to all of my friends for over a year now and nobody has ever been disappointed. To sum up, there are three words that describe Abe's business: integrity, professionalism and friendliness. My tire was going flat from a nail on New Years Eve right as all the local stations were closing. After trying 3 other stations with no help, I pulled up to Arlington Service Station and was immediately greeted by Ebraham. On a night where most people would be desperate to close up shop, he kindly removed the nail and patched my tire. He went above an beyond and even replaced the missing caps on my tire air valves. I rolled up on a Friday asking if I could get an oil change done. All three of their garage bays were full but they finished up on one of the cars and had mine inside within 5 minutes. The guy told me to come back in 20 minutes so I walked over to Dunkin Donuts (ugh) to figure out how to use the gift card that my boss regrettably gave me. One awful poorly made hoity-toity beverage and a trinity of sausage ball cakes or whatever the hell they are later, I walked back and my car was done. Did I mention this was on a Friday afternoon and they had other cars that they stopped working on to fit me in? Yeah. Awesome. Even more awesomer was how inexpensive it was. So inexpensive that I wanted to tip the guy the difference of what I was expecting to pay, but I was unsure of the protocol since I am used to the cold faceless dealership mechanics. I've gone here for inspections before and try to get all my gas here, and all the guys have been exceedingly friendly every time. My car is only 2 years old, but when the warranty expires you can bet I will be taking it here to have all the maintenance done. On a totally unrelated note, over the summer I'd always see a squirrel running around in the garage and once asked the gas attendant what the deal was. Apparently it lives in there. As long as you don't mind checking how busy the mechanicians are, you can totally feel safe to leave care there, and ask to be fixed by your desired time. They won't charge for no actual fixing work, so I had my car for just checking without paying anything. But they are very busy, that's true. read more

I see some good reviews here but check them all out. Not everyone had a good experience. Legally, they have to take any denomination of US currency. Your car deserves better. The Good: He tries to save you money. Abe is a great guy and has saved me in the past. He will try to find the least expensive solutions to your car problems, including doing some work for free, purchasing parts at significant discount from junkyards and not pushing unnecessary repairs on you. The Bad: Scheduling/organization and communication. Abe will need to keep your car for at least one day, often more. He doesn't have parts on hand and does not appear to organize his time well. It will take one day for diagnosis and part ordering/delivery and another day to do the work. I recently left my car for three days while I was traveling for what Abe said was a 1 day job and it wasn't ready when I got back. The Ugly: Mis-diagnosis Abe completely misdiagnosed an obvious and significant issue with my car. I brought it to him three times complaining about the same symptoms. He never found the cause. I just left Newton Automotive Services who quickly and accurately diagnosed the problem which could have caused major damage if gone unfixed. Newton Automotive not only found the issues, they are taking only a few hours to fix all of them... on a Saturday afternoon! If your car is a beater or you're about to sell it, bring it to Abe to keep it running or resolve immediate issues on the cheap. If you drive something with life left in it's bones and want to actually maintain it for the life of the car, take it someplace that can accurately diagnose and reasonably recommend appropriate repairs. If I could put 0 star, I would have done it well, because this mechanic and more precisely his boss Ab or brahim is not a man of confidence, I went to make him repair my car, and while he worked on it he did not stop saying that elsewhere I should have paid more. When the car was fixed, I asked him how much I had to pay, he told me 450 dollars, so I went to the cashier, but he said to me, come back tomorrow because I don't have the time to give you the bill, I'm alone today. The next day I go back, he says sorry but I was really busy. I will call you as soon as the bill is ready. A week later, he calls me with an angry look on his face, saying come and pay the 640 you owe me. Stunned. I went straight to see him, and when he saw me, he went to the bathroom and told his colleague that the bill was on the desk, that I had to pay the 640 dollars, and that I had to wait for him. When he came back, I asked him why the price had gone up, he told me the same things he had told me at the beginning, that it would have cost me more elsewhere. I told him thank you and added that honest people don't do that, and that he would never see me in his store again. On top of that, since he is paid by the hour, he works on several vehicles at the same time, in the end you will pay for all the hours spent on the other vehicles. So my advice is this, avoid this mechanic, and if you have to deal with him, pay him before the bill increases. read more

Before I moved to NH, I always brought my car here. Abe always took great care of me, got my car in quickly and repairs were very reasonable. I have gotten my car fixed here on one occasion. They were very uncommunicative about the process of leaving the car behind for service, and it took them forever to come out to even greet me as a customer. I wasted 15 minutes of my day standing around due to their lack of communication. I ultimately had my AC fixed because it was a hot week, and this was the closest shop in town that could fix it that same day. On a separate occasion, I also went there for state inspection, and I had a similar experience. I ended up going to the BP down the street because I was not certain if the people at Global were ever going to greet me. At the BP, I was promptly greeted, and my car was inspected quickly. This shop does get an additional star for having the cheapest gas in Arlington, so I will keep coming here for gas, but never again their automotive service. read more

Abe is great! I was on a first cruise of the season in my 67 mustang. When all of a sudden the car stalled. Luckily it stalled right in front of his shop! Actually if it was a couple seconds I would have had it on his property. Abe must have seen me coming and noticed something was wrong. He came right up to my car and said open the hood. Got in it and checked everything like it was a pit stop crew! He told me it was an ignition coil and I needed a new one called up he's auto parts place and said get in my car let's go get the part..! I'm not originally from Massachusetts and hate to say it but you typically don't find people like Abe... he was friendly in the car and even got a discount for me at the parts store. I wish I could add stars to this review. Last week, my car started shaking violently. And the smell: awful. Then the dreaded 'check engine' light. I took my Volvo to Abe the next morning. He immediately recognized the problem (and confirmed it with the computer). And then he shopped for parts informing me of the different options, the associated price, and his recommendation. He is an expert and I trust him completely. And I appreciate that he guides my decision according to what is right for me: my plans for the car and the budget for an unexpected expense. Abe also suggested that we approach the repair in 2 phases to ensure that I wasn't replacing parts unnecessarily. I am so grateful for that suggestions since the repair was complete with Phase 1. So hard to find a good car mechanic around Boston, but Abe is one! He gets things done about as fast as humanly possible, and is extremely organized. He understands the difference between the professional repair and the quick fix, and is willing to do the whole range. I really don't know how they get so much work done with so few people, but their work ethic is noted and admired.
