I fear Armitage Alehouse may rank amongst my top five favorite restaurants, which is really a shame since I live in Minnesota. After two unsuccessful attempts at snagging a dinner reservation (despite logging in 21 days before right at 9:00am with hopes in just getting a Monday or Tuesday dinner resy), I settled for lunch at noon on a snowy Wednesday in December. The interior is everything they say it will be and more. Deep browns and reds invite you to hunker into a comfortable booth and stay for a lunch so long the afternoon appears to slip away. The wood paneled walls, deep leather chairs, tasteful Christmas decor and intricate chandeliers all add to the impression that you are not in Lincoln Park but rather a deeply romantic pub in London circa 1920s. Delice de Bourgogne and Truffle Honey: bread and cheese, yes but so much more! The Delice de Bourgogne is a soft, ripened, spreadable cheese (similar in texture to Brie) which is accompanied by thick slices of sourdough bread, toasted just right. A truffle honey blankets the cheese and adds a hint of sweetness to cut through the cheese's creaminess while the truffle flavor is subtle. A perfect, yet rich, appetizer to start. Steak and Ale Pot Pie: Each day, two of the five pot pies are available to order, and I would say of the three dishes this was probably my least favorite (but was still very much enjoyed). The pot pie encircles a generous portion of bone marrow and comes with a crisp crust and piping hot interior. The steak was somewhat bland but the peas and carrots were cooked to perfection. The crust was a litter softer than I would have preferred but in hindsight, I did have this after perhaps the best burger of my life, so nothing could have compared. I loved the bone marrow touch, adding such a rich flavor to the already gorgeous dish. The mashed potatoes that coat the bottom of the dish were decadent - creamy, hot and buttery. Wagyu Double Cheese Burger: What my dreams are made of! The two patties are hot, sizzling, flavorful and lacy. Although the menu does not clearly delineate the accompaniments, the burger is served with small diced white onions and pickles to provide some acidity. The cheese is melt-away and blends in with the patties seamlessly. There is an orange sauce on the bun, probably an aioli of sorts, but it is a mere background singer, such that the patties remain the star of the show. Served on a never-soggy, soft, pliant white bun, I wish I hadn't split this masterpiece with my brother. The fries that come with it are an afterthought, but the side of white aioli is perfection and I certainly added some to the burger itself. I actually appreciated the lunchtime reservation as I felt like the service was still excellent and the vibes will be on point any time of the day. Just remember that when you go in for lunch, you will still be greeted by sunlight when you step out of one of the most special meals of your life. Will be back, hopefully for dinner, but I will take what I can get with this spot. read more

I had very high expectations from all the positive reviews, and what I heard from my friend who has been here before. This was my first time trying this place, and I love checking out new spots. My friend was fighting for her life, trying to secure a reservation, and we still ended up with a 9:30 PM slot on a Wednesday (LOL). I didn't know it was so intense like that. Luckily, I didn't have work the next day, so the late dinner didn't bother me. The interior was cozy and stunning. Absolutely loved the vibe of the restaurant. Service started strong but slowed down as the night went on. Overall, the food was good, but it didn't live up to the hype for me. For dinner, we ordered the Wagyu Double Cheeseburger ($29.99), Smoked Trout Caesar Salad ($24.99), Spiced Lamb Pot Pie ($28.99), Heritage Chicken Pot Pie ($25.99), Crispy Bombay Potato ($12.99), Ale Steamed Mussels ($24.00), and the Sticky Date Cake ($16.99). My boyfriend also ordered the 100-Year-Old Cigar cocktail ($18.95), which was surprisingly smooth and delicious, plus a few additional drinks for the table, including a soda, a tea, and another cocktail. My favorites were the Wagyu burger, the spiced lamb pot pie, and the mussels. The Caesar salad and chicken pot pie were classic, exactly what you'd expect, nothing crazy. The Crispy Bombay Potato was enjoyable for the first couple of bites, but I got bored with it. The lamb pot pie had a nice depth of flavor. While the Wagyu burger was tasty, a burger is a burger to me. The mussels looked simple but flavorful. And the sticky date cake, which everyone raves about, was definitely heavenly at first, but it did get a bit too sweet if you're not into very sweet desserts like me. There's also a 3% surcharge added to the bill, which I didn't know about. You can ask for it to be removed if you'd like. Our total came out to about $70 per person. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this place. But as a suburban gal, it's not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit again. The distance and the price point make it less appealing. Decided to drip in last minute on a Sunday evening. We did not have a reservation and thought due to the busy area we might have a long wait, it did end up being about 20 minutes which wasn't too bad. The place looks small when you walk in but it actually wraps around and opens up to larger area with more tables. It dark and has that speakeasy vibe. Walkways are quite tight and it is lively due to how busy they are snd the seating. We were seated at the bar and the bartender was very prompt with taking our order. We got the cheeseburger which was a pretty good smash burger, the prime rib, which was well done but it seemed like an elevated Italian beef and some naan which was gooey and soft. We enjoyed all our food, but nothing stood out. The dessert was the star, we got the sticky date cake. I highly recommend giving it a try. This is one of the toughest reservations to land right now, and we were lucky to grab a Sunday brunch spot. It was the perfect fall weekend to sit outside, sip cocktails, and enjoy some really great food. I started off with a smooth espresso martini and followed it up with an excellent Boulevardier. For food, we started off with their thick-cut maple-pepper bacon. Then we split the Wagyu Double Cheeseburger, two perfectly grilled smash patties, melty cheese, house sauce, and crispy fries. Then the Pike Fish & Chips, with golden fried fish, amazing crispy chips, and one of the best remoulades I've ever had. Even though we were stuffed, we had to try the sticky date cake for dessert and it was the perfect sweet ending. Well worth the wait! I'm so excited to have accidentally stumbled upon Armitage Alehouse while hanging out in Lincoln Park. It's small, cozy and intimate. The wait for two people was over an hour on a Tuesday night, but I was able to walk down the street to Kincades for a beer while I waited. Protip: don't think you can hang out at the Alehouse bar while you wait. Bar seats are considered regular seating. Once we were seated at the bar, we were able to chat with our bartender Zach who was very helpful, gave us tons of excellent recommendations. Every single thing we ordered was so scrumptious. I'm just disappointed we were too full to try to date cake that I had read about. The pot pie was incredible. The steak tartare was excellent and the miso fish dish we had was plate licking good. My friends and I finally scored a reservation here this past Sunday at 2:15pm after a few failed attempts. Dinner slots literally disappear in seconds! The atmosphere is incredibly cozy, with dim lighting, rich wood tones, and that classic pub warmth that makes you want to linger. Our server was attentive and friendly, even giving us a few great recommendations. We started with the spinach and paneer samosa, then shared the spiced lamb pot pie, chicken breast tikka masala, and a side of sweet peas and bacon. The spiced lamb pot pie was easily the standout. Finally made it to Armitage alehouse and it absolutely lived up. The atmosphere is so cozy and it makes you instantly feel like you are in a British pub. My favorite of the night were the Caesar and the pot pie and of course the sticky date cake- That dessert is the best in the city and truly insane. They gave us gelato with toffee for a complementary birthday dessert, which was excellent. The naan with the whipped powder, it was also really good and the fish and chips were solid, but I would try something else next time. The chips were awesome. I also got the gin and tonic, which was very good too. My friends and I came here for dinner. We heard a lot of things about the pot pies and sticky toffee date cake. They were bloody delicious. We ordered the following: Chicory, Mango, Paneer Salad: The vinaigrette was very good, along with the glazed cashews which added much needed flavor. The paneer was shaved in thin slices, which I thought was very creative as it played with the idea of cheese. However we wished there were more endives instead of lettuce. Daal Mahkani (Lentils): I've never had this dish, so I thought it was not bad. But my friend who knew of this dish said it was mid. English cut rib sandwich: paired with the sauce along with the horse radish sauce, it was so delicious. My friends and I inhaled it. It is on the expensive side however. Oxtail Pot pie: this was a highlight. Crispy on the side, flavorful on the inside (due to the beef broth), with the mashed potatoes melting in your mouth. Even though it was pricey, we loved it. I only wish there was more bone marrow though. Sticky Toffee Date Cake: melts in your mouth. Phenomenal in our opinion. Didn't disappoint. She says flatly, "No, an hour" and looks away. I ask, "Is the bar open seating?". Her response, "No, that's on wait list too". Again, dismissive, flat, sour affect. Not once asking if we'd like to add our name to the list. Look, I get they're busy - even though I saw multiple empty tables outside. Being 5th in line and waiting an hour doesn't make sense. Despite that, waiting is not the problem, the attitude and lack of service is. THAT's your "hostess"? I did my research and learned I needed to make a reservation as soon as they opened up, which I am thankful that I did. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were seated right away. Upon entering the vibes were unmatched. Staff were so kind and all genuinely seemed happy to be there. My daughter (15) tried one and my mom also tried one. They all said they were very good! My son highly recommends! We decided we wanted to try so many things so we ordered an array of items. So the next dishes that were brought out were the samosas, the naan bread with whipped feta, and the chicken tikka masala. We all HIGHLY recommend the naan and whipped feta. We are all still dreaming of it. We also loved the samosas and tikka masala. The depth of flavors were deep and amazingly good! The next dishes that we had were the steak and frites, the lamb pot pie, and crispy Bombay potatoes. Of these dishes, the pot pie won and we all agreed. The steak was a little too charred for our liking. The ends were not edible because it was so charred. It was still good, but we were glad we had other options. I enjoyed the Bombay potatoes the most, but my family members felt they also had the charred taste and they were having a hard time getting past that. I loved the flavor and they were on a bed of the whipped feta. The lamb pot pie was piping hot, the crust was butterfly and flaky and crispy. Once again, the depth of flavor they were able to achieve was insane. Loved the bone marrow and scraping it out to add with each bite. The service during our meal was impeccable. We never had an empty drink. The table never had an empty dish taking up space. Our silverware was changed between all of our courses. The crew truly went above and beyond. I've seen so many rankings of the Hogsalt restaurants so would love to share mine! Bavette's and Armitage hands down are the best of the bunch due to their menu, consistency, quality, service, and overall vibe! It took us a bit to try Armitage but once we did, we kept coming back with our family and friends whenever they visited. Love love the outdoor patio since our pup is able to dine with us. Every time we come, we order the same exact thing and it never misses. We share the chicken tikka with charred naan, chicken pot pie, and sticky date cake, which is a MUST!! On occasion, we have tried the fish and chips and wagyu cheeseburger which is very similar to Trivoli's. Everything is so so good. The chicken pot pie is beyond nostalgic and the bone marrow makes it delectable. Trivoli also has the chicken pot pie on their menu but the one time we tried it there, it was super salty. I prefer the AA one! Similar case for the sticky date cake.. it's so strange given it's the same menu item from the same restaurant group but the date cake from Trivoli has more of a cake like texture and the one from Armitage is so fluffy warm and divine. The ice cream on top is also toffee while the one at Trivoli I believe is vanilla. We've come to the conclusion that the sticky date cake from Armitage is THE BEST dessert in all of Chicago. Honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Even the chicken tikka is super tender and moist. Armitage is definitely on our top 5 restaurants in the city and for good reason. Food at Armitage is easily a 100000/10, amazing flavors specifically in the pot pie and salad! We had the heritage chicken pie, and chicory, mango, paneer salad as well as the English cut prime rib sandwich. The sticky date cake was divine and I have to get it again! So worth the hype!! The staff were so friendly and attentive and i loved how cozy the vibes were. And of course, the food was incredible- not a single bad bite tbh. Honorable mentions to the naan- the seasoning on it was so addicting and the texture was so soft. It didn't need the feta dip imo but it elevated it for sure. The butter chicken was also some of the most tender chicken I've ever had. Idk what the crunchy bits were on the sticky date cake but it added the perfect texture. I also loved the bites of fish in the Caesar salad because it helped cut through all the cheese. Also even though they said there were no reservations online, we walked in around 1 pm on a Friday and were seated right away. I'm sure if you came by yourself around the same time, you could snag a seat at the bar. read more

The food and service here is amazing! We had the naan bread with whipped feta, chicken breast tikka masala, and the truffle tagliatelle. All were amazing. The truffle is strong on the truffle, just a fair warning! We obviously love the sticky date cake - def a top and iconic dessert in Chicago! Highly recommend. Came here with a friend before a show last Sunday, as we've been seeing the burger from here getting very high ratings in social media. We weren't able to make a reservation but we were able to do a to- go order. The inside did look a little small, but they do have outdoor seating too which is nice for the warmer months. We both ordered their Wagyu Double Cheeseburger. It comes with fries and garlic aioli for around $30. After taxes and everything it was around $38. So a pretty pricey burger but it was expected when getting a wagyu burger in the city. It was a very good burger, but I do think it's a little overhyped on social media. I give it a solid 7.8/10 . I just thought it wasn't as mind blowing as some people hyped it up to be on social media.The fries were good as well, but I really thought aioli helped. The burger did have a good sauce as well. Would definitely coming back again to try the rest of their menu! read more

I hate to love a restaurant group restaurant but...wow. The ambiance? Just believe everything you've heard about it. You're definitely time traveling the further down they seat you. It is truly a gorgeous place. As for the food, we ordered fish and chips, a chicken pot pie, the smoked trout Caesar salad - the greatest salad I've ever had in my life, maybe the highlight of my year was this salad - ordered a couple of glasses of wine, a couple of cocktails, the date cake (divine...) and an espresso shot for myself. I think it was like 200ish for everything which I found to be VERY reasonable. A subtle game changer was the malt vinegar they use for the fish and chips. Never eating the Kraft or Heinz crap again. Jesus. Our server was absolutely amazing, did a great job and answered all our questions in detail without ever being overbearing. Looking forward to coming back here. read more
