Home less than one week and now car won't start again. With diagnostic and service that's almost 2000.00 in the last week for less than owning the car 3 months. Please, please please do your due diligence and go elsewhere. As a returning customer to Armstrong, I cannot say enough good things about our experience with them -- both leasing and buying. From start to finish they took care of us and gave us hassle free service and competitive quotes that could not be beat by any other local VW dealers. There were a few minor issues with the car we ended up purchasing that they took care of with no hassle at all and made it was very positive experience. It was pouring rain the day we went to pick up our new car and our salesman, Anthony, met us at our car with a giant umbrella to usher us into the show room. It's my first new car but not my first time at a dealership and my salesman, Lou, was extremely helpful and pleasant and I never felt pressured to buy anything. He wasn't pushy and I absolutely think he has best interest at heart! My parents and my uncle helped me navigate and held my had through the process and Lou made sure I was happy with my purchase and that I understood clearly what I was getting. This is a copy of the review I left on google. I took my car in for a replacement water pump that was 100% covered by the VW Class action lawsuit. Chris at Armstrong VW service told me it would cost almost nine hundred dollars to fix it. They also gave me a service recommendation for new tires and showed a photo of an old tire THAT WAS NOT MINE. The tire was from somebody else's car. The rim nor tire matched. I filed a complaint with VW Customer Care, and then the next thing I knew, the water pump was done at no charge. They were full of sarcasm when I picked up my car, and within a few minutes of driving away, my car had a flat. Funny what a coincidence that a cut-in-half snow stud with plier marks was somehow embedded in my tire as I drove away. I have filed complaints with VW, the DOJ, and BBB. This was the worst dealership service experience I have ever had. And no explanation or apology for the attempt to overcharge me before the got slapped on the hand by VW Customer Care. This could have had a very bad ending on the freeway, but luckily the tire went slowly flat for over an hour and was not a blowout. Some say I got what I wanted by getting them to do the work at no cost, (which is what was supposed to happen), but the repercussion I suffered from reporting them is something not to be taken lightly and I am concerned about future customers that file complaints. I bought a new 2016 Golf R from Armstrong. Against my better judgment, I also purchased a 7-yr extended warranty at a good discount. The main reason I purchased this car from them was that they, unlike most other local dealers, did not mark it up. After purchase, they have been absolutely super in every way and I've made several good uses of that extended warranty, including replacing the whole radio/nav unit. Their service department has been excellent and, surprisingly, reasonably priced when compared to independent service shops. Their service staff has always been responsive, responsible, courteous and usually prompt. I highly recommend this dealership. read more

This review is for the service department. While still under warranty, my GTI was having repeated misfiring issues. Within a span of four visits, Armstrong completely failed to rectify or provide any insight into my car's issue. During the course of my visits, Armstrong attempted to charge me for completely legit warranty diagnostics, failed to detect two leaks that a second party discovered, and refused to fix one of said leaks. It's also worth noting that they tried to deny me shuttle service, claiming that I was out of their range. I am well within Armstrong's shuttle range and have received many shuttles before and after that appointment. Service manager, Mark Welsh, ignored repeated calls for over a week regarding safety concerns, only to finally call me back after I threatened to take the issue up with Armstrong's GM. On the phone, he was combative and unwilling to admit that my car had any underlying issue. On my fourth visit, they replaced the cylinder head, but ignored repeated requests for insight into why they decided to do this and what was actually going on with my car's engine. Even upon picking up my vehicle, I was denied even a cursory explanation as to why they replaced the head. When I started my engine, I could hear and feel the same misfiring rumbling that I had become accustomed to all summer. I have since sold my VW. I hold the experience I had with Armstrong at least partially responsible for my decision to move away from the VW brand. read more

Literally, no one cares about you, about doing the right thing, about accuracy and even basic human consideration. I made the mistake of buying from them once. I won't make this mistake again. Service is an absolute JOKE! I bought a Certified Pre-Owned VW from Armstrong. The buying experience was fine. I have taken my car there for service for 2 different issues (but MULTIPLE visits). Service Time Estimates: They have a complete inability to properly estimate how long it will take to service your car. I made my most recent appointment by calling in. I was told it would take 90 minutes - not long enough to arrange for a ride or rental. My husband takes the car in for the "90 minute service" at 9:30 AM and the service technician told him it would be ready around 4:00 PM (MUCH different than 90 minutes). BUT he's already there so what options does he have - not many. So he goes to the Starbucks across the river and spends the entire day there working - thankfully he has a job that allows him to work from anywhere. I called the service technician once my husband told me it wasn't going to be ready until 4:00 PM. I told him that were were advised it would be 90 minutes - he said that was our new third party provider and they don't know - NOT MY PROBLEM. And IF you know that they don't know, then either educate them or tell them not to estimate times at all! Diagnosing / Troubleshooting - First Incident: They fail miserably here. My first issue was with my sunroof - it would not close. I took it in and they said it was the roof rack that was interfering with the functionality - keep in mind I bought the car from this dealer with the roof rack on it. So they removed the roof rack and got the sunroof working. A few days later it happened again - sunroof would not close. So I took it in and they said the tracks needed to be greased - I'm super skeptical but whatever. A few days later and it happened again - sunroof would not close. I call the service technician who has helped me the previous 2 times and told him that it has happened again and I have invested way too much time in putting insufficient bandages on a hemorrhage and that I expect it to be fixed once and for all. So I took it in for a third time and they replaced the entire sunroof track - sunroof has worked fine ever since. I told them initially that I didn't think the roof rack was the issue but they insisted it was. Diagnosing / Troubleshooting - Second Incident: When I took my car in for the "90 minute service" my husband advised the service technician that there was a noise coming from the front passenger side of the car when driving over speed humps. I followed up with a phone call and advised the same service technician that I had a VW before that was making the exact same noise and it ended up being the control arm - an attempt to help them target a specific area of the car. After the 90 minute turned to 6 hour service appointment, the technician called and said the car is done - I had to ask what they found out about the noise. His response was, he looked at the suspension and drove the car and determined the noise was coming from a coin organizer in the center console. I told him the noise is NOT coming from the center console but rather the front passenger suspension. He said the technician drove the car after the coin organizer was re-positioned and it didn't make the noise. I told him I found it completely condescending to tell me that the noise was coming from the center console when I know for a fact it is coming from the front passenger side. I told him I was not going to pay the $130 diagnosis charge for him to tell me the noise was coming from the coin organizer. My husband went to pick up the car and the diagnosis charge was on the bill - he called me and let me talk to the service technician. He said, "we can keep it overnight and you can come back and go for a ride with the service guy and try to replicate the noise". NO THANK YOU! I reminded him of the sunroof incident and how they jerked me around and wasted so much of my time and that I would not be investing anymore time with their incapable service department. My husband brought the car home - I drove the car over the first speed hump and it made the noise (SHOCKER). I took 3 videos of the car making the noise. I returned home sent those videos via e-mail to the service technician. I also reviewed the service order - the car was driven ONE MILE while at Armstrong VW. They drove the car 1 mile to try to replicate the noise while driving over speed humps. Where are these speed humps within one mile round trip from Armstrong VW - I'm convinced they didn't even look at this issue. Remember I had to ask the service technician what they found out about the noise. Responsiveness / Customer Service: The e-mail I sent to the service technician went unanswered. I left a voice mail for the service manager (Carl) with no response. I followed up with a phone call (left a voice mail) with the service technician the next day and not response. If you are thinking about allowing Armstrong VW to service your vehicle, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

Good costumer service all very nice. However they completely miss judge how long your car will take by days! Not to mention they prioritize other cars. This isn't a first come first serve nor does a appointment do anything for you. I had an appointment at 5 on a Thursday. They still haven't even began to look at it by Saturday and told me it'd be done Friday morning. But to not even look at it until Saturday night is appalling. We negotiated the terms in advance via email and phone and I just had to come in and do the paperwork. The car had been cleaned up very nicely before I took delivery and Steve took time to walk me through all the features of the car. We purchased a used Nissan Rogue off their used car lot. The salesman, Cory, was pleasant, helpful, and didn't pressure us. Raul got us financed and got us a very good rate. Overall a good experience. Only down side was they pressured us hard for their warranty which I declined after a good ten minutes of sales pitch. Originally I wanted a four year term on the loan but was pressured into a five year so they could roll the cost of their warranty into the payments. They would not take no for an answer for what felt like an eternity. We were also told they were going to get us another key fob for the car since it only had one. Well five months later and we never received it. So, low pressure car sale, but high pressure warranty sale. read more

Lackluster service and sales experience. I have three VWs that I've had serviced here and other than a simple oil change they always find a way to mess something up. They've had my Tiguan over a week with "we'll call you" being the last I've heard. Turns out Carl went on vacation and my car just sits in limbo until he gets back! Tried calling to get a status multiple times but receptionist just sends me to voicemail box because everybody is busy, but calls never returned because Carl is on vacay! Had a terrible experience six months ago, too, when the same Tiguan needed a new turbo. I was considering trading in and wanted to take a look at the new ID.4 when I dropped the car off this time, but the sales people would rather talk to each other than help me. Actively avoided talking to me, left me standing at the front desk until the person finished with the customer. Take me out to look at a car in the lot, and another customer is literally like this is my car what are you doing, they don't even know what car to show me! Then the salesman just wants to bad-mouth Tesla and Chevy when I tell him I'm considering other EVs too, instead of telling me how the VW is better I get to hear how Tesla isn't a real car company.... Ok... I'll end with Armstrong lost my sales and service business forever, I'll take my VWs across town to another VW dealership for service, and they've done such a good job tarnishing the brand I'm considering switching away completely. My parents (I'm 22) have been buying/leasing VW's from Armstrong for several years now and we've always had a great service. I went there myself to get a tire patched and to get an oil change for my Beetle. The guy who helped me in the service shop named Chris O. was pretty smug and condescending. I wait in the sitting room for approximately 30 minutes before they tell me that 1. they aren't going to patch my tire and 2. that I had a pretty bad oil leak. Well this was news to me since I had never, not once seen oil in my driveway. They say that they need to keep my car until they can identify where the leak was coming from so I had to have my dad come pick me up. The next day they call saying that I had a crack in my oil reservoir (or some BS like that) and they won't patch my tire because the tread is too low. They tell me that the repair will cost like $400 so we agree. I finally go get to pick my car up and I leave it in my driveway overnight and when I go outside the next day there is oil EVERYWHERE. Seems kinda fishy that I have no issues then I take it to Armstrong, then a few days later my car is leaking like a sieve. Understandably, my dad was furious. He called them and let them know what was going on and we returned it Armstrong. Then they said that the oil housing (?) needs to be replaced in order to stop the leak. After much negotiation, Armstrong agreed to discount the cost of the repair - which I feel that they broke in the first place. We also agree to buy a whole new set of tires. So after an additional $1,400 I finally get my car back with the promise that everything had been repaired. It was literally leaking the next day. We took it to a local shop in Tualatin called Paragon to get a second opinion. They called the next morning saying that the housing was covered in dirt and grime, meaning that it had never been replaced. We told the guy at Paragon the whole story so he took photos as proof that the original housing was left in the car. It cost roughly an additional $900 to get the ACTUAL repairs done and I haven't had a problem since. It's been around 6 months since this all this transpired and I'm still so bitter about the whole experience, I felt compelled to write a review. We never contacted Armstrong again about our findings because we didn't want to get the runaround and waste more time. We've never had a problem with them until this, but due to the severity of the issue, it's safe to say we will NEVER work with Armstrong again. I feel robbed. read more

Very, very disappointed in the service I received recently. I had made an appointment for a check engine light, brought my car in at 8:45 a.m. and was told to wait for a call when I could okay the estimate and the service to be performed. By 12:15 I still had not heard anything, so I called and got the distinct impression I was irritating my service guy (I told you I would call when we knew something, right? We have your number.) Okay, sorry! So as time goes by, and we were now close to the 4 o'clock hour, still no word, so I checked back again, VW: Sorry, there is still nothing to report. me: "Has the guy been looking at it for 7 hours and can't figure it out? -- VW: Well, they're trying to get BACK to it. Me: Have they done ANYTHING? oil change? anything? VW: heavy sigh, let me check. (later) No, nothing billable has been done yet. grrrrr. Hard to say what exactly was going on with my car, but my best guess is nothing. Either overbooked, or understaffed, or both, but what pissed me off most was the game they were playing with me. I'm an adult. Just level with me and I can take it, don't make me feel like an unreasonable harpy by asking about the status of my sick car. This wasn't a drop in, I had an appointment. I'm also not crazy about the check in procedure -- three guys in the bay, and apparently my guy is handling all the cars waiting, on the phone, running around checking tire wear and mileage while the other two guys are just sitting there, but can't check me in because I'm not "his" appointment. A little teamwork would be a good idea. I ended up making an appointment with Herzog Meier where I got very good service, great communication and follow up. Things there didn't go perfectly either I'll say (my part didn't come in when they thought it would), but they kept me in the loop, were honest about the situation, not condescending, and helped me figure out my transportation dilemma while they finished the job. I've been to Armstrong VW 2 times now to be the moral support person for 2 friends, both purchasing brand new GTI's. The first was last July and the 2nd being today. A year ago the team was informative and helpful but, a bit slow. Today the sales person we spoke with was great! He was extremely down to earth, not pushy at all and was so helpful to get the exact car my friend wants. Unfortunately my friend has to wait about 4 months in order to get the exact car but, that's the price to pay for special order. Bought a used VW there over a year ago and still very happy with it. That's all that really matters. Problems: The car had tinted windows, which we didn't like. Turned out the tint was so dark it was illegal. Luckily we found out before we got a ticket. Could Armstrong not have realized this? Also, the fellow who we signed the papers with was confused, made mistakes, took forever. Those two problems gave me a negative feeling overall about Armstrong, but I do like my car a lot. read more

Phil was great, although clearly overwhelmed as he was the only one there besides a blond girl who was busy facebooking and only allowed to ask if she could help and then redirect you to someone who could actually help, i.e. Phil. No way in hell are we paying $150 for someone to change an air filter and check tire pressures, so we cherry picked what services we wanted them to perform vs what we would do ourselves, and it was very reasonable for a dealership. Parts were affordable and I even replaced the cabin filter while Sara ran into the grocery store. $50 in labor saved! Not sure how the sales dept is, it was practically a ghost town in that area, and they didn't have a Toureg inside to play with so we weren't even interested in staying up front. read more

Me and my spouse spent 5 weeks researching, test-driving, and being incredibly frustrated with the process of buying a new car. Until today. After finding the vehicle we wanted online I scheuled a test-drive. The very first thing that happened when I arrived was that my sales-contact, Joe, immediately informs me how they do business there: "No closer, no bait-and-switch, no hassle, and if you like the car I will show you our dealer purchase price." Wow. He then show me the car and starts to explain the safety features, the engine construction, the electronics and 120+ computers, and the warranty that covers it. Mind you we had looked at the same car at another 2 dealers and they could not even come close to the car-knowledge...to the point of having the salesperson not be able to answer fairly basic questions: like 'what does this button on the stereo touch-screen do?'. THEN we drove the car. Every other salesperson was in such a hurry to get me behind the wheel! After the test-drive Joe went over the pricing with me. He did show me the invoice on the car (something I already knew from my homework, and it matched!) He went over what they could offer me for financing. He told me what the lowest price they would take for it and then practically shooed me out of the dealer so I could go and talk it over with my spouse! To make a good story short, we got the car we wanted, at a very competitive price, with no hassle, no negotiating, no headaches and no pressure. These folks were flat-out brilliant. If more dealers sold like this I would not have waited so long to buy my first new car. I may become an optimist yet! read more

This dishonest dealership doesn't even deserve a 1 star review. In March I bought a used 2015 Audi vehicle for my college son. I was lied to by the salesman. Told the car went through a rigorous inspection prior to putting on their lot since they don't want bad reviews. I was told there was a 6 month/6K mile warranty that covered a entire list of issues and parts. After driving the car 700 miles, the car had 2 critical errors that rendered the vehicle undriveable. These errors should have been discovered in their rigorous inspection. The Warranty they promote to give you confidence in your purchase was CRAP. It didn't cover what they listed on the car and didn't cover the 2500 dollars in repairs required to get vehicle driveable. When I tried to call the dealership they REFUSED to even talk with me. Sent me a text message saying they can't help with current issues even though they never found out what the issues were because they REFUSED to talk with me. This is the worst customer service I have ever experience at any dealership. BEWARE DON'T BUY A USED CAR FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. read more

Made a pre offer on Armstrong Volkswagen Website though Auto Trader refferal that was approved, Automated Goon Armstrong Volkswagen told me a sale person from dealership would call to finish up instead I get an email from a Jane Asst to Steve referring me to a Steve Deahn whom had none of my pre offer information on Loan Trade and Down Payment or Cash to close basically all you had to do was write a contract for me to sign I was coming to pick it up being The first offer on the Vehicle instead of write the offer to lock it down Steve responded great choice when can you come in. I state living 300 miles away want to complete the deal and then will come. Next he replies well the vehicle is unavailable until Wednesday due to being in Safety and Service Check I replied would like to complete my offer so I can lockup the vehicle as I want it at 8 am. around 9 give my info Trade Cash and Pre Approval information again stating what happen to all my online applications, Offer and Pre Offer Response Steve states I can find any of that, fill it out again at our website under financing tab I did not need financing then at 1130 same day am called by Steve and told I was just going to put a hold on the vehicle and found out some other customer just walked in and is currently making a offer and to bad for me Steve says nothing I can do then vehicle was sold to someone whom walked in instead while trying to get Steve just to write a deal for 5 hours then to late sorry WOW NEVER SUPPORT THIS DEALER OREGON read more

I just bought a 2016 Tiguan here yesterday, and the entire experience couldn't have been better! Joe Couch was my salesman, and he did an outstanding job of finding me the exact vehicle I was looking for. He took me on a really good test drive in a local Tiguan so that I could get a feel for driving them (a really great ride, by the way). When Armstrong didn't have one with the colors and features I wanted, he arranged a dealer trade to get me the exact model the next day. That Tiguan was in Spokane, and he had it delivered the next day. The. Next. Day. It arrived, he showed me all the features, and he stepped me through features and setting that I didn't know about -- he really knows his stuff. And he is relentlessly honest. He wanted to make sure I didn't have any surprises, even when the answers weren't what I was hoping for. He is a straight-talker who really wants his customers to be happy. He had the paperwork ready to go before I even got there. He handed me off to Nick to finish the financing, and we were done in short order. Nick explained everything really well, and he was patient when I didn't get it the first time. I've never had this kind of experience at any dealership, ever. I wasn't just another commission -- I was a valued customer. It was almost disorienting compared to every other car-buying experience I've ever had. It was refreshing. We bought a Passat TDI from here. Good car Every time we go for service they take double the time they tell us. My wife gets tired of being told one thing and returning to find they didn't meet timeframe. We have a busy schedule and have learned to just drop it and expect to await a call. Up until now it was covered under the initial sale. Went for our 40K service. $798 for service. In my opinion this was crazy. Oil, filters, and trans fluid this time. Hopefully VW comes through with the compensation for the TDI mislead. I recently moved to the area, and my aging Volkswagen New Beetle required service after a lot of "deferred maintenance", so I decided to try this neighborhood dealership's service department. The first thing I noticed right away was the friendliness of the staff at this dealership. Nobody seemed "pressured", and both the service advisor and shop mechanic I worked with seemed interested in only getting me back on the road as quickly as possible and without too much expense. I gave them a budget figure I needed to stay within, and they made sure to get me out the door without exceeding that budget. Yes, they are a dealership, so it might have not been the cheapest place in town to get service on paper. However, in the end they threw in a lot of little stuff that a small mechanic shop would have "nickel-and-dimed" you on, and also took the time to show and explain to me what they found and why it needed service. I didn't buy my most recent VW here - still kicking myself for that! Regardless, Armstrong is the only place I'll service my car. The Service Writers are friendly and always willing to help. Same with the people in the parts department. I leased a VW from Armstrong in 2010 and the sales team was great to work with. I'll definitely purchase or lease here again in the future. There wasn't any pressure or really tough negotiation. They seem to keep it simple and reasonable, which is what I look for when purchasing a car. The only thing that would truly make Armstrong "as good as it gets" would be if they'd open a service shop in NE Portland to make it more convenient, until then, I'll just have to hoof it to Gladstone. read more

The sales department is helpful and responsive without ever being aggressive or pushy. I've been extremely satisfied with both the leasing department as well as the service department. The service department is clean, has great snack options, runs on time and always excellent with communication. Our service rep checked in with me several times to let me know how quickly it would be done and what was going on. I greatly appreciate this. read more

LAME SERVICE DEPT I regret every time I have to go here for standard servicing of my VW. They don't offer loaners, messed up my oil pan plug- leaving oil pooled in my garage, and didn't return our call when we asked if they did non-VW oil changes (you'd think I would learn) . Another time, my nearly new Tiguan had the engine light come on, and I was told I had engine hose issues. After leaving it all day, I find out all it needed was a gas cap. Say what? That could have been addressed in my first 10 minutes there, duh. The service manager is Captain Flake, and despite my consistent feedback on after service surveys, nothing ever changes. Please save yourself aggravation and try to avoid this crazy place. If you're into keystone cops, this is your nirvana. I do like my VW just fine, BTW. I'm glad they haven't ruined it yet. read more
