On our recent trip to California, we got to to eat and drink at amazing restaurants & bars. One of them was Aro in South Pasadena. It was a great experience with delicious margaritas !! The restaurant has booths as well as bar seating inside and outdoor patio. Staff are friendly, helpful and with big smiles !!

I enjoyed my first experience at Aro! I went with my friend for a catch up/girls night. We went on a Friday and parking was fairly easy on the street. I had two sangrias because it was so tasty, light , and refreshing. The tacos and dessert were also so delicious. Stephanie helped us out and she was very friendly, nice, and attentive. I definitely will go back when I have the chance!

I have not stopped telling people about this place since we went for Valentine's Day. Every food that plated in front of us was perfect. I ordered the fish and shrimp tacos and I've been dreaming about these tacos ever since. The cook was perfect and the chipotle sauce on the side was the best sauce I've ever had. That should be bottled and I would order it in bulk. We also got chips & guac for the table. The chips were also very good. My husband ordered the enchiladas and the rice was nice and fluffy. Then we got a strawberry cheesecake to end the night and that was fantastic. I also got a margarita and it ended too quickly. The staff was so kind, and constantly checked in on us. Can't wait to come back again soon!

Skirt steak and eggs with veggies instead of potatoes

Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Service was 10/10 Food was also 10/10. The skirt steak came with a side of chimichurri that was the cherry on top. The ambiance was very chill and casual. Loved the music playing in the background. Restrooms are clean and artsy & music can be heard over an restroom speaker.

Aro has realllly great drinks! I hopped in for their "social hour." I ordered a margarita, the asada fries, and the asada skewer. Every thing was really great. I asked the bartender for a suggestion after social hour was over, and he suggested the hibiscus margarita. It was one of the best margaritas I have had. The space is cute, and they play music in the background. I really enjoyed my visit.

Aro Latin in South Pasadena has a vibe that really comes alive at the bar, where I was welcomed by Tevin, who truly made the experience. After an appointment, I treated myself to a solo dinner and asked for a non-alcoholic drink. Tevin crafted an agua fresca with hibiscus that was so refreshing, balanced, and citrusy it transported me straight to the Caribbean. I started with the tiradito, a sashimi-style ahi tuna with garlic oil and a fruity, ceviche-like center that was absolute heaven. The chicken tinga enchiladas were rich, satisfying, and perfectly portioned. I was so impressed I came back the next day with my cousin. There was live music, a relaxing lounge vibe, and we shared the another tirado and coliflor, which was roasted cauliflower bathed in a creamy pesto with coconut milk. It was warm, flavorful, and absolutely magical. Can't wait to go back.

We dropped in for a quick drink a few times and recently tried a small bites. We had the esquite, empanadas and some fires all so so delicious. But the highlight was the Bloody Mary it was delicious, refreshing and now one of my top 3. We are excited to come try some breakfast in the near future and of course that will include a Bloody Mary!!!

Such a special place! The food was very yummy and the sangria was delicious! I had the birria tacos that were just perfect. The esquites had a very lime forward taste but was still good. Service is great the staff are all so friendly. Such a fun place to pop in real quick for a drink/apps or spend some quality time it's a great vibe.

    Beef hash

Came here for brunch New Year's day since it was one of the few places open in the area. Service was quick, and the people were so nice! We ordered the Chilaquiles with mole and the Short Beef Rib hash. The chilaqules were delicious. The chips were still crunchy and the mole was perfectly seasoned! The hash, on the other hand, was not what we expected. It was kind of soupy to be honest, and the meat was not short beef rib, it was just ground beef. In fact, the ground beef was sort of rubbery and the dish in its entirety was almost flavorless. Would come back for maybe lunch/happy hour, and would definitely order more of the chilaquiles!! The restaurant is quite big - great for get togethers or just hanging out, its..idk I wanna say industrial-ish? But its not too overwhelming at all! Parking was on the street, not sure if there is parking for the complex as we got quite lucky with street parking!

    $17 just for 3 tacos
    Jessica R.

This place I wish could have been better. It was bad from the start. First thing we ordered was an appetizer along with meal. The appetizer came out and the waitress brought no drinks. She saw us sitting there and I tried to ask but nothing. It took forever for just water not alcoholic drinks mind you. Another person ended up bringing it and then she acted like we weren't sitting there with almost all of our appetizer gone before anything. I got the shrimp tacos (3 tacos $17 just tacos!) they were drenched in sauce I could hardly eat them. The rice was bland. The waitress never checked on us once. We asked for the check and she took another 10 minutes to bring it over. The thing is after we asked for the check we saw her help the people next to us check out but we had to wait even after that. It was frustrating to say the least. $70 for mediocre food and horrible service!

So many options for dining in South Pasadena, but the string lighting outside Aro provides a welcoming ambiance after sunset that draw you in. We've been to Aro on several occasions now. Mostly for birthdays lately but we have been known to drop in for mid week drinks also. Always great service, stellar food, and refreshing cocktails. I can't say that I've had anything on the menu that I didn't love. I do however, have a couple favorites: - Chaufa de Pollo - Brussels Sprouts - Chicken Empanadas You can't go wrong with any of their cocktails. You might even get lucky and be provided with shots on the house for your birthday. * Parking: there is no lot for Aro but you should be able to find parking on the side street rather easily.

    Happy hour chicken quesadilla
    Jeff C.

Loved it. Been a few times. Inside is modern and stylish. Decent amount of seating. They also have a small front patio seating area. It's a good spot for small groups or even a casual date. The food is great. I've had the salmon and asparagus. Loved the green creamy sauce. They also have a great happy hour Mon-Fri 4-6. Highlights are $5 beers, $12 cocktails, and food specials. The mezcal sun-risa was delicious. The happy hour tacos were good, could have used a spicy salsa though. Will definitely be coming back. Service is great. Friendly staff. There's street parking but you might have to walk a block or two.

This is a 5 star restaurant, this family owned restaurant is the only restaurant that will welcome you and make you feel like you are at home. The cocktails are well done, the various vegetarian options and carnivore options will make you go home feel satisfied and not feel like you were robbed-(new restaurant across sales tiny dishes and tiny cocktails full of ice). Come over to Aro to eat healthy non greasy, delicious Meal. Seriously why aren't you having dinner or brunch here???

The sautee beef has onions and tomatoes. The flavor is good and goes well with the rice. Dessert is not included in the Dine LA menu, but we wanted to try a Peruvian ice cream. I thought that was a bit odd, but I guess it was to detract from unwelcomed guests (i.e. homless people)? Anyhow, we were seated right away and sat by the window which was nice! We were given the menus, but I had to specifically ask for the DineLA menu which I also thought was a bit odd since it seemed like they wanted us to order off their regular menu. Perhaps this was just an oversight. For starters, we ordered 1 of each that was offered: Ceviche Carretillero - Refreshing and brought me back to time spent in Peru! I preferred this option Salpicon - This was also refreshing and reminded me of chicken salad mix in a bowl though not sure I would order it without it being a part of a prix fixe. For the main course, we ordered: Saltado Salad - This had minimal protein and was not so satisfying when compared to a traditional lomo saltado, but the protein that was there was yummy. Aji Gallina - I really was excited to see this on their menu since I love this dish so much and don't see it offered too often at Peruvian restaurants. Though the sauce was good, the chicken was VERY dry and hard to chew (overcooked) so it took a while to finish this. In lieu of desserts, they offered Maracuya (passion fruit) and Chicha Morada (purple corn) juices which were yummy but the star of the show was their sangria which was delicious especially on a hot day. My only complaint about the sangria was that we were charged for 3 carafes when we only got 2. Once we identified this, we brought it up and just went ahead and enjoyed the 3rd one since we had already settled the bill. That being said, always double check your receipt!

First, all the staff is so attentive I feel like they can read our minds and they're bringing something or they ask if we need what we just thought of. Amazing and keeping our waters glass full at all times major plus! The first course was the Bone Marrow Esquite. It's been years since I last tried bone marrow and I was worried but everything paired perfectly. This was my favorite part of the meal. The corn mixed with the bone marrow on top of the tamale sweet corn....wow! All the flavors complemented eachother so well. I wish I could recreate this amazing dish at home!!! For the second course I went with the Arrachera - the skirt steak with the Poblano rice. Absolutely flavorful. Just a bit hard to chew for me and I felt like I was swallowing giant portions. I'm not saying there was anything wrong with the way it was cooked, but I did struggle with the meat tearing. For dessert I went with the Guava cheesecake. Absolutely decadent and the perfect small portion to end the meal. To drink I had the Maestro Margarita with hibiscus and it was absolutely refreshing. The food itself was okay, not special and didn't have a new or surprising twist, and not incredibly authentic either. Out of our dishes we shared, the bone marrow esquite appetizer was actually the standout. It had excellent flavor and seasoning though the tamal was dry inside, the sauces aided in the flavor and texture. They have an extensive drinks menu and an alleyway patio that seems to be popular. Overall it might be good for the drinks, the vibe is something you might find anywhere in Pasadena, the food is just okay, and the parking is paid in nearby structures on busy Union so be prepared.

You can see that they cook the steaks on a grill, perhaps with wood chips, because it has that woody flavor when you bite into your steak. Overall, they've prepared the steak well, so it's not too well done and cooked to perfection at medium-rare. I'm kind of at a crossroads with the skirt steak for the price. I would expect better quality meat, but I can't complain overall about the taste of the skirt steak. I would have expected it to be better prepared and tenderized; it still had a bit of chewiness. I think you have to be an expert in how to prepare skirt steak so that it's not so tough. The ribeye was thick and juicy, so I can't complain about it, with a nice, warm, woody taste. I know it seems a bit weird coming to a steakhouse to try some of the fish, but I can't complain too much about the fish. The grilled octopus was prepared to perfection, as it remained juicy and not too tough, with a great taste in how they grilled it.

The food here is well worth maneuvering this intersection of Lake Avenue and California Boulevard. I was surprised to see how many people were inside this Peruvian restaurant. As I walked, I noticed a patio section on the outside by the entrance. Once I entered there was a large counter that wrapped around to the side. There was a service counter with a staff member taking orders over the phone as well as assisting customers with ordering to-go food. Everyone inside was extremely busy. Tables nearby were filled with customers. The counter area also had Peruvian products, snacks, candies, and sauces conveniently displayed. There was a short line before I got to the counter to make my order. I was unfamiliar with the menu so I asked for some assistance as to what I should order. There were a few things that were not available on the day that I was there. But I was able to order a number of their specialties. I decided I wanted a half chicken. I was informed that Peruvian chicken has a completely different flavor and comes with a special green sauce. I ordered spicy and extra spicy. I also decided to have the garlic fries, a side salad, and their special beans. I had: -Pollo a La brasa, half chicken. -Song de Pollo -Canary beans with housemaid Aji Amarillo Paste -Garlic fries, side salad, diced cucumber salad. I had them add their special sauces for the salad dressing. And the French fries with a barbecue sauce. When my order was ready for me to take home, they double checked everything asked if I needed some extra sauce which I agreed to and I was on my way. As I left I noticed more and more people coming in as it was getting close to an early dinner time. They had been busy the entire time that I was there, about 25 minutes. The kitchen's fragrant smells permeated the entire restaurant. When I got home and unpacked my food, everything was still warm. Flavors from the food engulfed my dining/kitchen area. Everything that I ordered was exceptional! The chicken flavor was like no other chicken that I have ever experienced: moist and tender. The shredded chicken sandwich was definitely my favorite. The toasted bread was filled to capacity with shredded chicken. Green sauce was added and the flavor was complete! A great value. I enjoyed this sandwich for two meals....both hot and cold! The cucumber salad and the garlic fries were as expected, with the cucumber salad providing a bright clean flavor. I would rate Loli Farms as a great experience. I look forward to coming back and tasting some of their other flavors. This restaurant is sure to continue its excellent reputation!
