First time here, five of us were at a U of H event and found this very close place to eat on yelp, just 1.8 miles away. What a wonderful surprise. Our group had burgers and shoestring fries, chicken Caesar salad, rustic flatbread and street tacos. Service was spot on, and super friendly. The atmosphere was casual and comfortable for a group or for singles or couples. The food was expertly prepared with fresh and high quality ingredients. Shout out to the chefs. They obviously are experienced. And they're open late which was perfect. Met with a few friends and family for Steak Night Thursday this was my first time coming to this establishment. It's located downtown-ish. It's basically a home that was turned into a bar that serves food. (Very cozy and cute)! The music was a nice mixture of country, hip hop, heavy metal, you name lol. We found a table on the patio and after sitting for a good ten minutes we noticed there aren't any waiters to take your order.. you have to go to the bar and order, get a number, then a servers brings the food to you once it's ready. Then go back to the bar and close out. This is why they lost a star. This was to much work for us. Lol So the steak night special ($17) came with scalloped potatoes. (yummm) super good. The salad was to die for. Seriously. The steak was simply "ok" a little under cooked. (I ordered medium.) Mine was a little to bloody. But this is a really good chill place. Breakfast/ Brunch unlike anything I've ever had before. I was invited here by a group of friends who are regulars for Brunch yesterday and I instantly fell in love. We basically order everything from the brunch menu to share and had at least 4-5 pitchers of mimosas. From the moment I walked through the door I was highly impressed. Here are the reasons why the staff will know me on first name basis before the end of the year: * Bomb ass drinks. I had the regular and bloody orange mimosas and a Paloma and they were mixed very well. * Lounge/ Home-like atmosphere. Growing up with grandparents from the Carolinas "Around The Corner" was love at first sight when I saw their porch patio. Inside has nice dim lighting with a comfortable lounge/diner set up. Their back patio is complimented with a backdrop of the city and painted murals of neighboring buildings. We ended up being here for a lil over 2 hours. *The brunch menu took everyday dishes like flatbread pizza and French toast and turned them into culinary masterpieces. The French toast was not your regular sliced bread on a plate with a few sides. It had a casserole feel to it drizzled with powdered sugar and fresh blueberries. The flatbread was tipped with 3 poached eggs. As odd as this may seems (being a scrambled only fan) it was really good. I can't wait to come back and try their steak night and bingo. read more

LOVE! Their brunch is great! I love coffee, so I got an almond milk latte which was fantastic! My friends both got a brunch cocktail and they loved theirs too. We all three got the sweet potato hash and all loved it! The only downside is that it's really loud, so kind of hard to have a conversation. delicious food, i had the sweet potato hash and tried my friend's creme brûlée french toast and both were amazing. they make mimosas the right way :) the coffee was okay, i forgot to specify that i wanted a hot drink so that's on me. my friends got the pistachio, cee cee latte, and i got the honey lavender, they were all tasty. service was okay, they're pretty hands off. ambiance was meh. the music was playing too loud so it was hard to find a table where i could have a conversation. it was clean and had nice decor though. read more

The brother/sister location of Down the Street (a really awesome play on names) and one of my secret favorite spots in EaDo that isn't nearly as popular as other bars in the area - but still has that quality. Venue: Very pleasantly surprised that it wasn't a modern box, glaringly lighted bar that we're starting to see pop up around Houston. Instead, its more like a nice, interiorly modernized hole in the wall that feels very much at home - but its clearly a bar. Probably one of my top 5 places to go during cooler weather because it has a really nice outside patio with a view of downtown - a very easy spot to just relax with a bunch of friends because it's fairly spacious. Drinks: Great, not the greatest Moscow Mules (I typically order the bourbon version), and a surprisingly good beer bottle stash, which is important because their beers on top are typically not that impressive. I normally can find a hard-to-find beer bottle like an older version of the Bishop Barrel there or something of similar quality. That being said, whether you want a good mixed drink or bottled beer - they will definitely fit the bill. While it's not going to be Anvil-level quality, it's definitely up there for a nice casual-vibe bar. Service: Polite, extremely attentive, what's not to like? Overall, a great spot just to get away from it all, especially if you have guests in town who just want to relax in a casual setting. read more

It wasn't until I visited Around the Corner for a book club meet-up that I realized it's a standalone bar and NOT an extension of Leeland House. (Although they share the same owner.) I just love everything about this place. It's quaint and cozy, yet spacious enough to comfortably hang out with a groups of friends on the patio. Fur children are welcome too! It's rare to find a bar with good wine, good craft beer AND good cocktails (it's usually one or the other). It's got great vibes and one my new favorite EaDo bars! read more

Came for the first time yesterday and loved it! Their Happy Hour alone is a great deal, but they have daily specials that have me planning to come back every day. It's the perfect mix of a small bar feel but they've got their act together. Bartenders were very friendly and attentive, atmosphere was welcoming and inviting, they even had a DJ begin playing on a Thursday! They do not do brunch anymore. NOTE: I did not actually eat here. I went on their website and saw that their Sunday Brunch hours were from 10am - 3pm. My husband and I arrived at 10:45 and saw a sign on the door that say Sunday hours started at 11. We waited until 11, walked in, and they told us that they no longer do brunch and told us to go next door to Leeland for brunch. I'm sure this place is awesome and I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't for the website listing hours and specifically saying Sunday Brunch. To be fair, they don't have a brunch menu on their website, which should have been a hint - but, I'm posting this review to let anyone wanting to brunch here that there is no brunch! Came here a few weeks ago on a beautiful Saturday for brunch with a group of friends. This place is located in Eado with nice views of Downtown, which you're able to view from their back patio. They are located right next to District 7 Grill, note**: DO NOT park in District 7's large parking lot or you will be towed! There are a few parking spots right outside ATC and also parking spots directly across the street, if not there is also free street parking in the neighborhood. There is both an outdoor front porch as well as a bigger back porch area to lounge around on and sip on some cocktails. The inside has a full bar and a few tables and chairs as well- very cute and cozy. Perfect place to hang out with friends and grab some drinks. Unfortunately, they no longer serve brunch on Saturday's (contrary to what their website says) but you are still able to order food from their small plates menu and there was also a burger food truck outside as well if you're super hungry. That day I had a burger from the food truck (white cheddar burger I believe) and it was delicious! I also had a few pieces of cheese from my friend's meat and cheese platter and it was good!! FYI- there is no waiter service so you must order at the bar and they will give you a number and bring out your food when it's ready. Although they don't serve brunch on Saturday's they still have mimosa's and bloody mary's on their menu- I had the Bloody and it was good! They also have a specialty cocktail menu and I recommend the Kentucky Buck if you like bourbon! It was a bit crowded that afternoon and it definitely took time to order drinks but be patient, these cocktails take time to make but they are worth the wait! Another important note- be careful on a hot, sunny day if you are sitting on the outside back patio. Their metal tables are scorching hot if they are directly in the sun- I'm sure you can fry an egg on top of them! The staff is so friendly and thoughtful, they saw we were melting out in the sun and brought out an umbrella so our table could be shaded. That definitely helps so don't hesitate to ask if you need some shade (or just hang out inside). Another plus that I love about this place- it's dog friendly so feel free to bring your pups. Met some friends here a couple weeks ago for lunch and day drinks. The place is dog friendly and that is a super plus in my book. Automatic two stars, lol. A must try is the strawberry basil margarita, very refreshing and light. Their bloody Marys are strong and spicy, a plus for me! I could drink many of those. I would add olives in mine, but that's just a personal preference. The food truck that hangs there cranked out one of the most delectable burgers I've had in a very long time. Cooked to medium, pink inside, buttery bun, fried egg, and super tasty fries(which is hard to do so I have noticed in a lot of places). I had a taste of my friend's vege burger, other than being a bit salty for my taste, the patty was really good. The sun had come out and was boiling, but then they put out the umbrellas and oh my goodness, relief. Lol. Even the dogs rejoiced. The only frown was the metal tables out on a patio. I had been to Around the Corner many times before since I live nearby. I arrived at the counter to order with my boyfriend and his friend. We paid separately. The server was short, rude, and said about two words total to me. I noticed after I had already tipped $4- because she was so rude- that I was charged a gratuity of 20% on my $34 check. I called the day after and was told they'd give my number to the director of operations to fix it. One week later I called again, just to be told they did look at it but the day after they "changed their system" so couldn't alter it. I was a server for 8 years, and I am disgusted with the customer service. ALSO!!!! I was charged gratuity because I was with a group larger than 5? I walked up with 2 other people, that's 3 people @server 200. Just watch what they charge you because they like to play you. read more

The brunch plate was great, and the BLTA is pretty awesome. The DJ played cool Music, the patio is very nice! We will continue to come back for brunch. Came on a Thursday for steak night! Delicious! My review is long overdue! I've been stopping by Around The Corner since they opened and have enjoyed every visit - whether it's a laid back afternoon or high energy night out. These folks can be depended on to show you a great time with their hospitality and stellar beverages. My hands-down favorite drink is their Moscow Mule. I think their addition of ginger liquor makes a real difference. Every other mixed drink they have made me has been excellent as well. The feel of the place is nice. I love the decor and love the jukebox even more!! They've got a great back and front porch that manage a downtown view with a small town feel. I think it's a lovely escape from the usual rolling chair and beige walls so many of us are used to each day. Most of all, Around the Corner has joined the community. They host events -- like bingo night -- and always remember you! Stop by for a wonderful time!! read more

Bartenders all seem friendly, patios are both nice and the back one big so you can spread out. As is the inside, I didn't expect it to be as large as it is, but you can either hangout with people at the bar or split off into a corner room. Visiting on Sunday it seems they have a lot of food/brunch options, though It was also my understanding you could order grub whenever they're open typically. The music is always great and there are some pretty good small items to eat. Before re-opening they had a great charcuterie board option and now they have really great fried cauliflower. Passing through and was looking for a "not so commercial" place to eat and we found it "AROUND THE CORNER". We were so hungry that we forgot to take pictures before we devoured our lunch but it was amazing. We had the Picnic Plate, The Hummus Plate, and a Flatbread Pizza. All of the ingredients were extremely fresh and very delicious and so very tasty. Plenty of variety in seating. Indoors with open air seating, bar seating, front porch and a large back porch with a beautiful view of the Houston skyline. We will definitely be back. read more

Saturday morning and I saw on another yelp review that said that this place has [1] amazing brunch, [2] fast service, and [3] amazing parking, which are all three things I love. So, my boyfriend and I ventured out to Eado in hopes that this bar would serve a decent brunch. Honestly, I'll say it now in case you don't want to continue reading my saga, it was an absolutely amazing brunch and I had the best time. Okay, so this place is basically like a little house converted into a bar (very Rainey Street). Main thing: theres a bunch of parking, so even if it does get packed on the inside, at least you will probably have a spot for your car. We entered through the front to a basically empty little restaurant. It was maybe 11:30 am at the point, but people didnt really start showing up till about 1pm when we were leaving. This was great because it meant that we could chose anywhere to sit on the inside, though there is also plenty of outside seating if that is what pleases you. The inside decor was soooo amazingly cute and I know I sound incredibly basic but it was totally my aesthetic I didn't feel awkward being the only couple sitting inside. Apparently when the place is a bar, they remove all the tables and seating from the inside, but I can't verify that at the moment. The brunch menu is really simple; there's maybe 10 items on the menu total (or less). I got the french toast and my boyfriend got the egg on an island. My french toast was $9, which at first I thought was a little pricey, but when I got it I realized that it was totally worth it. We also ordered two blood orange and ruby red mimosas for $3.50, but you can also get a carafe for ~$13. The french toast was probably the best french toast I've had in a very long time and I regularly eat breakfast for dinner. It was custardy and soft and fluffy and thick and everything right in the world. There were two hearty slices and even though I was full halfway through my brain knew that I had to finish it. While the french toast was great, the eggs on an island were so incredibly amazing, I had a bite and was at a loss for words. I think its like eggs on a baguette with some truffle hollandaise sauce and an avocado (don't quote me on that), and it was truly an absolute dream. In retrospect, I should've gotten that dish because I'm all about an eggs benny for brunch, but a french toast has never failed me and I wasn't feeling particularly adventurous that day I guess. Next time I visit I will probably end up getting that. The mimosas were also fantastic and cheap which [honestly] is all that really matters for me.. Bottom line: Wow, you need to go here (and bring all your friends). Because it wasn't crowded or packed (in fact there was really barely anyone there when we showed up), this is a great place to bring a larger group of people for brunch. People did start showing up closer to lunch time, so I'm sure if you swing by at like 10-11am you'll be golden. read more

The bartender immediately asked if we were here for brunch and when we said yes, she told us to go next door and we were like ummmm can we see yalls menu first?! It was super weird and abrupt! Almost like she didn't want anyone there (we were the only ppl in the restaurant). BUT - I am so glad we looked at the menu & stayed because we had a great time! The inside is so cute with a modern/industrial vibe. The outside could use some work front deck is cute but behind the restaurant (where we sat) was pretty blah. We got the hummus, margarita pizza & bahn mi sliders and we loved them all! The bahn mi tasted nothing like bahn mi but flavor was still great! Great spot if you live on the east side and don't want to go all the way into downtown. Ample indoor AND outdoor seating. Parking lot isn't huge but you can grab street parking within a block or two. Service is good and I've never seen it extremely packed (though I've only been on a Monday night and saturday afternoons). Great signature cocktails, average prices. However, I won't endorse any venue where there are employees who are disengaged with their customers as was the case with my experience. $ 11.00 for a beverage you get two sips from and it's empty speaks volumes. When bartenders show little interest in a new customer and are inattentive why on earth would anyone want to go back a second time? Caveat emptor. read more

Here they offer coffee and drinks, their drinks being twists on some classics and their house mixed drinks and some nice bites to #eat as well. On Tuesdays they have $20 #wine with a complimentary #charcuterieplate. A charcuterie plate is a sampler platter of gourmet meats and cheeses just incase anyone was unfamiliar. This cozy bungalow-turned-bar is adjacent to the former free-standing Kim Son ballroom in EaDo where the Houston Hue Mural Fest happened. The service is friendly but be patient as the ratio of patrons:bartenders/kitchen is pretty off. There's ample parking. Notice how I haven't mentioned the drinks yet? Intentional. My Kentucky Buck was alright but that's fine since the prices weren't completely jacked up like many up and coming places; we were still on single digits. This little spot was the first stop for my boyfriend and I after we landed in Houston. It has a really great small town feel, with absolutely delicious food options. Quality over quantity is never a negative, in my book. The bar was well-stocked and I opted for a frozen bellini, while my foodie partner went with a classic whiskey. We started off with slow roasted pulled pork sliders and empanadas. There isn't much more to say than they were both extremely flavorful and cooked perfectly. After another round of drinks, we finished off with the big toasted pretzel. Honestly, it was a memorable stop and the only thing I wasn't a huge fan of is the seating. We ended up moving to a corner bench style area after falling a little too deeply into some over-sized upholstered chairs.
