In particular, we dined here after visiting the Nordic Museum, which was a short walk down the street. On a Thursday night, the place wasn't busy, with just a few patrons dining in. My partner ordered the suki talay while I had the coconut turmeric noodle soup with chicken. It didn't take long for our bowls to be out, and everything was solid. My coconut turmeric noodle soup with chicken was flavorful, and liked the bean sprouts for some crunch with the liquid and tender chicken. I also love turmeric, so was glad that this was the base of the dish along with the coconut. I went here for a Wednesday dinner and it was not busy as we went around 8pm, an hour before closing. We tried the spicy giow for the appetizer, ba mee giow muu dang which seems to be the most popular dish, and the guay jub. The spicy giow is a spicy wonton which has a bit of a pungent spicy kick to it - not my taste, but it is well executed. The ba mee giow muu dang is kind of like the Chinese wonton noodles dish, but it was shockingly poorly executed. The noodles are very soft and overcooked. The broth is solid, and the BBQ pork and wontons are good. It did not feel all that special and for $18, I would definitely skip this. The guay jub has a sweet soup base with rice noodles. The noodles here are better cooked, and pork spare ribs are good. I would recommend this if you were to pick one of the bowls. Service is okay - not really any service despite being one of the two tables, and we were rushed (somewhat makes sense as they are closing soon, but they forced us to pay midway into the meal so that they can close their accounting for the day). With this place being located very close to some of my top Thai spots, if you are craving Thai, I would not necessarily recommend this place unless you are craving noodles and in the area. read more

Super nice mom and pop shop in Ballard. I think this place is definitely a hidden gem. They have a wide selection of noodles and appetizers. I love how a lot of their dishes are things that you can't really find at other noodle shops. I highly enjoyed the lamb noodles (forgot the actual name) it was full of flavor and the greens made it less heavy. My friends and I shared the Ginger Chicken, Lemongrass Curry Noodles and Turmeric Coconut Chicken Noodle Soup. Honestly every dish hit the spot. But Lemongrass Curry Noodles was my favorite. Veggies and tofu had soaked up the flavor of lemongrass so well. It was light and hearty at the same time. Also the ginger chicken wasnt very overpowering with ginger which was perfect. If you're looking for a noodle fix and live close to Ballard, Sen is an easy choice. They will whip you up something in less than 10 minutes, and it will be better than most of the other noodle spots in the immediate area. The lamb curry noodles were unlike anything I've ever tasted before. The lamb itself is so flavorful and rich on its own, and then they put these little crispy boi sardines off to the side which adds even more saltiness. If you mix everything together, it actually creates a wonderful contrast. And then BOOM and egg appears into the mix, because why not?! If you LOVE SOME SALT, this dish will be outstanding to you. However, if you're having some blood pressure issues - stay away! I thought it was fantastic, but it definitely becomes heavy after a while. Having a fresh roll on the side can add in a much needed respite. Staff was nice and friendly, also ruthlessly efficient. Love love this spot. We go there for authentic Thai noodle dishes you cannot find else where. Our go to is the turmeric noodles with tofu and the duck noodle soup. It's accompanied by the spice rack of chilis and sauces. The service is so sweet and warm always welcoming us with great energy. The servers are always so attentive asking if we need more water or anything else to make our experience better. The restaurant itself is small and gives an authentic Thai restaurant vibe. The bathroom is dark and red but great for babies because there is a full on changing table with necessities in case you need it. I wanted to love this place and there were definitely some highlights but I was a little disappointed with my selections (maybe I ordered the wrong things??). To start the radish cakes were quite bland. Reading the ingredients I'd expect something more than what ultimately tasted like eating a piece of jicama. Even the sauce they came with was a let down. There were nice and crispy as you'd expect but that was about it. I never add salt to things but this would have benefited from some. For my main I got the Guay Tiow Khaek. First of all it is not spicy. They put a chili next to it on the menu but this was FAR from spicy. The curry broth was awesome but what bummed me out was the lack of much protein. It had two shrimp, a few small pieces of cod and no scallops despite being advertised on the menu to include scallops. The noodles had great texture and the Asian greens were cooked well. So overall it was a good dish but I ordered it hoping for some heat and a little more seafood. Despite not being blown away by my meal I will try them out again because so many dishes on their menu sound amazing and I love how unique it is compared to other SE Asian restaurants around Seattle. read more

My favorite go-to after all these years is still the Tom Yum or Seven-Spiced Beef soups under the customizable section. Yes, you can build your own noodle soup - pick your own broth/protein and noodles. The flavors are so rich and flavorful. The size is perfect and inflation hasn't done too much damage since 8 years ago. The staff are super friendly and there's outdoor seats so you can bring your pooch too. This place is a true hidden gem. It's been around and there is something still very special about it. New places may open up, get picked up by influencers in competition for the newest and trendiest, but those places lacks the charm and depths of these places. For the noodles dishes we all opted for lamb for the protein as it not very common. We liked it, and it does have lamb taste that might be heavy for some, it was ok for us. The portions are a bit on the light side it be great if it had 20% more food, especially for the price point (my friend was still hungry after his meal). Came here on a chilly night and after the local ramen place was closed as well as wanting to try something new, Sen Noodle was up to bat. Directly nextdoor to Pestle Rock (a visit for next time) we stepped in. The ambience is decent with 4-5 tables, with some additional ones in the back there is a fair amount of space and ideal for a party of 5 or less people. Step up to the counter to be seated. It seems like there is a slight understaffing here, perhaps it was just in this visit. The guy helping us was the host, waiter, busser and cashier. He was running around all over the place. He did pretty well at it, but it was a bit much, especially as it was a fairly busy Tuesday night just as the 6pm dinner time was striking. So, what was on the menu tonight? I got the Ba mee giow muu dang - an egg noolde bowl with pork dumpling, onion, bean sprout, choysum, yuchoy and other additions in a clear broth. I think this was the weakest part of this bowl. The ingredients had a fair amount of flavor but the broth though hot didn't have much flavor as opposed to the Turmeric coconut soup I got to try which is also on the menu. For a starter I got the spice corn patty which was good. Vegan and gluten free, though again what really elevated it was the sweet chili sauce it comes with. So good I had to ask for an additional cup. Also got the Yam rolls, I'd skip these. They're about is good as spring rolls from any local Asian restaurant. Really great, not your typical "Thai" restaurant! With a lot more noodle options to choose from... you can really explore what South East Asian flavor can really offer. I tried their Boat Noodle and it was such a pleasant surprise of flavor overload. It's not anything I've had at a typical Thai place. The soup was so delightful. Tangy, sweet, sour, basily... and pulled together so well with rice noodles. The corn fritters could have used a bit more umph. As for someone who grew up with Indonesian Corn Fritters.. I'm always in the search for something that can come close to the flavors of home. In my own opinion.. Indonesian corn fritters are definitely the superior one... so for a place called Sen Noodle... i implore you to try all their noodles instead.
