I have not gone to Arriba in a very long time. The food and atmosphere was just as I remembered. Unfortunately I found nearly everything too spicy to my liking. The only thing that I could really eat that had very minimal spice was the mini chimney changas off the appetizer menu. Those were both chicken and beef mixed and were excellent. Horrible experience. Just stop to get a beer while I waited for a meeting, sat on the bar and a roach was about to crawl in my arm. Killed it with napkin and told the bar tender, she didn't seem bothered and just she smeared the roach across the bar and called the manager. What got me is she said they've been dealing with roaches for months. What kind of business takes months to solve a roach problem, didn't even offer to comp the beer. read more

It's unfortunate that I need to give a bad review. I had high hopes that the food would be good as my business associate and I stopped in on a whim. My associate ordered the Carne Asada, which he said was overcooked and not flavorful. I wasn't that hungry, so I ordered the Chicken Tortilla Soup...the soup broth was really dark (almost black), and it did not taste good at all. I only ate around 6 bites and then stopped eating it. I've driven by Arribas so often that it became part of the background. But it's worth checking out. The inside is not newly renovated by any stretch, the furnishing show a bit of wear, but it is good wear. It has a farm feel. A bit like going to visit your grandma on a ranch. It may be a bit old and worn, but it's comfortable. The starter chips and salsa are just my style. The chips are a bit thicker and crunchier than the standard far, and taste quite good. The salsa have a fresh pepper flavor and they give you a bean dip as part of the free offerings. Nice. I had the Burrito with the Muchaco beef. It too had a bit of smoky pepper flavor, with a fresh zing. The beef was not tough, dry or grisly, but thick and meaty. The tortilla was just the way I like it: soft, pliable, a smidge thicker than the grocery store fare-and very fresh. The service was attentive but unhurried; warm but unobtrusive; quiet and gentle but not obsequious. One word to summarize the service would be kindness. One gets the impression the server has a weighty soul. It wasn't busy, so that likely helped, but often, when restaurants are not busy, the servers dial it back. Not here - service was near perfect. I loved the fajita quesadilla, the chicken was grilled perfectly, tasty and all the vegetables and flavors made this an amazing experience. I have driven past this many times and never stopped in. That changed today, and I am glad it did! A quaint place, a bit stereotypical in decor, but don't let that slow you down. Friendly, efficient staff, tasty food, and decent prices. There is unexpected bean dip along with the usual chips and salsa, and the spicier salsa (you have to ask) is chunkier than most (a plus in my book). Do be warned, they have Hatch chilies, and my Pollo al Diablo brought the heat! I always order the Chile Relleno when I go to Arribas. They were always Fantastic! They must have replaced their cooks because after what I just "tried" to eat I will never eat there again!!!! I struggled to find the Chile relleno under at least an inch of hatch chiles which took away the flavor and I was unable to eat it. They did not care. My bestie and I visited Arribas for Taco Tuesday! We arrived around happy hour (3pm) and ordered the 12oz margaritas for $1.99 and the Tuesday special which is 2 tacos with a side of rice and beans for $5 The food was very good! The tacos were delicious and so was the rice and I'm usually one to be picky about my rice. The beans I didn't care to much for but prior to entree they serve chips with salsa and some sort of bean dip which I did love. The margaritas were pretty strong and I normally drink strong liquor. After 2 12oz margaritas I felt buzzed already. We sat at the bar section and it wasn't busy at all and servers walking around everywhere. We have frequented Arribas often over the years and have always found it to be good. They have a little bit of a different take on Mexican food than other restaurants in the Valley. With their main ingredient in most of their dishes being green chili's, it is more of a Nee Mexican style than a old fashioned Mexican food style. This is fine with me as I like my food a little bit spicy. My wife and I split their green mixed burro lunch special. We also added their queso fundido to the top of it. Their queso is what really makes the spice of the dish . Another one of my favorite dishes to eat here is the white sands chimichanga. It is one of their more spicier dishes in the menu but it is really delicious. Before your meal you can also enjoy their bean dip and salsa. I have always liked their salsa but their bean dip is hit or miss to me. It is either great or it is really bland and lacking any spice. Either way, I would recommend trying this place out and see if you like it. read more

Management Complaint - RUDE to me.... Long time Patron at Arrowhead Arriba's I am writing this because of a great concern that happened to me on Wednesday January 31. I been a regular bar patron at Arriba's Arrowhead for 16 years, average 1-3 times per week. I always sit at the bar in the same location and have brought in many, many friends. In my 16 years there, all the management, bar staff, wait staff and all the staff in general, have treated me like family, because to me, they are an extended part of my family.. But lately, things have dramatically changed with the new Manager, Sarah, from the Camelback Location. Many of us for years come in on "Joaquin Wednesday" to have Joaquin serve us behind the bar. This all started when we all come in for Joaquin Wednesday and Sarah pulled Joaquin from behind the bar and replaced him with Arturo, from Camelback. I spoke to her and told her that we all come in to see Joaquin and have for many years. She responded to me "I am making changes". I told her if Joaquin was not behind the bar when we all came in, many of us regulars would not stay. Since then, she has been noticeably rude to not only the staff but to many of us regular customers. I have heard it several times. It was on Wednesday the 31st I was talking to my boyfriend, sitting beside me at the bar, Dave Sugino, that has been in there a few times. We were having private conversation. The new manager came up behind me, hearing my conversation, and was totally disrespectful, speaking to me in the manner she did. The staff as well as many patrons heard her conversation. She basically said to me that "I could leave" and much, much more because I had voiced my concerns to my boyfriend - not her! It was insulting. In my defense, my boyfriend, as well as another longtime patron, Dave, spoke up and told her she was out of line and should not be talking to a guest in that manner, especially someone that has been coming in there for years, to see Joaquin on Wednesday. I have not written a bad review of the restaurant, because it is not anyone's fault but the Management, but I will think long and hard before I return to give my business to a manager that does not appreciate regular customers that have supported that restaurant for years. She owes me an apology, for sure. I asked people I know in the corporate Arriba's that this be addressed and I wanted an apology. Had a reservation at another nearby restaurant for 20 people but once we got there they said they didn't have it after waiting 45 min we called arribas and the manager said come on in...within 20 min tables were put together on the patio for us ...Hector our server was quick and friendly on getting drinks out to us and kept chips and salsa and beans full at all times ....all our food came out at once fresh and hot !!! Our friends had never been there and they all loved it. .the manager armando came several times to check if anyone needed anything as well as hector ....I highly recommend this place as the food is always good...I know it's not easy to take a party of 20 ( 11 kids) when your not expecting it but they did it with smiles ...I get the pollo con queso with ground beef is my favorite ...thanks again for a great experience! read more
