What a treat! We're were able to get breakfast and a show. We were right in front of the grill and the guys were fun. The service was outstanding and the food was great. We stopped at Art's Place across from the beach last week for lunch. Kinda looks a little whacky on the outside, but it was very casual and inviting on the inside. The food is where this place shines though. Sorta an open kitchen concept so you got to see the cooks working hard and putting out food fast. We had to wait a few minutes for a table but it was worth it. Wait staff was attentive and busy, but handled it with ease. Plenty of parking in the lot on the side and around back. They have live music outback too, and also allow pets outside I believe. For lunch we had the fries which were seasoned well, kinda peppery. I had the prime rib sandwich with some au jus. It was pretty mouth wateringly delicious and the bread was so fresh. I needed a fork though as some of the meat slipped away from me. I'd definitely return. read more

Just love this place!!! I knew Art and his business partner Bill, when they owned the place 30 years ago and it is as good now as it was then. We went to the Sway Bar on top of the restaurant and just ordered drinks. I got a basil gimlet from the specials menu and my husband got a beer. Mine was delish but the beer was barely cold. It brought him back to his college days when nobody cared that beer was served warm. Ewww! All of that takes a back seat to the view. Amazing!! Inside was very cold today so next time I would probably sit outside if it's not too hot. Server never really checked on us to refill water or if we needed anything which was a bummer. Art's Place was very busy. They offered "to-go" services, but they wouldn't pick up the phone to take the order-we had to physically go to the location, place our order, and wait. But well worth it! We ordered a Monte Cristo & an Al's Big Breakfast (pancake, two eggs, sausage gravy biscuit, and grits) Everything was absolutely delicious! (and reasonably priced) The (large & thick) Monte Cristo french toast was moist, well-flavored, with hearty pieces of meat smothered in melted cheese. The raspberry jam for the top was beyond scrumptious (I would guess homemade). The biscuit was flaky & buttery topped with a yummy bold flavored sausage gravy-that had a nice peppery profile. Eggs are eggs- well done sunnyside up. The pancake was fluffy & buttery, didn't need any syrup because it had a really great base taste. Overall, an amazing breakfast! For such a tiny place, the cook up a mean breakfast! We were in the area for a few days of beach time. It was kind of cloudy so the beach would have to wait, so I did a quick search for a breakfast place and found Art's. When we arrived, there were a few seats at the bar, so we claimed our spot and studied the menu. While sitting there I noticed how the cooks were working hard, cranking out food but it was a well-orchestrated dance of breakfast magnificence. After ordering our Bloody Marys, we settled on a Greek omelet, a south of the border omelet, and a side or corned beef hash. Within about 15 minutes, our food was delivered. The time went by quickly because we watched the kitchen working. It was so interesting to see how well they worked! Our food was good and they were able to crank it out in no time. read more

This place is busy and packed and now that I have eaten here I see why. It was well worth the 20min wait. Everything had an amazing taste by far one of the best places we stayed at during our trip. If we ever come back this is the place we will go to first! One tiny problem parking was tight even to a point while waiting to go in someone hit there door on our truck. Nothing to this place just letting you know if you come make sure you take a small car and expect tight parking. read more

I love burgers. It's hard to ruin a burger unless you are that place that has great shakes ... cough cough "Cook- something". That's another review. Art's sits along the old highway with plenty of parking and a pickup window. They have online ordering and it's easy to navigate. Their prices are on point for the quality burger they serve. Unlike their neighboring burger joint, Art's serves a 1/2 lb burger easily shareable by small eaters. I ordered a custom hamburger, can't go wrong with that. Sides(fries) come with the $9 price. This was easily the best burger I've had in the OBX. Burger was cooked exactly as I ordered "medium". The fries were fresh cut and fried. Kudos for takeout food that stays hot when brought home. I will be back and I hope others give them a try! read more

Food was good as always. Were sat in the back area with the a live band. Was loud but it was understandable. Service was the worst. We've had in the years and years that we've been going. Once the waitress took our order she didn't come back to the our table until I went up to get her to ask for the bill and a box. Some else brought the food out, didn't get any refills, asked everything came out all right.... Nothing. I left a cash tip but sure didn't want to. We went to Art's for breakfast and had an awesome experience! My husband and I each had the Monte Cristo served with a side of fresh fruit and coffee. The kids split a serving of pancakes with a side of generous bacon and sausage. Everything was perfect. You could swear the pancakes, sausage patty and bacon were made by your grandma. The Monte Cristo was on par with any high end restaurant's Monte Cristo. They just have breakfast figured out. As a side note, they carry sugar free syrup if you need it. The decor is very eclectic with a small town diner feel on the inside, embracing their obvious love of music and the sea by way of photos and posters with hand written notes on many. There are about 4 tables capable of seating 4 guests each inside as well as bar seating across from the cooking station. The outside is ocean themed with sea murals on the side of the building and a fake pirate climbing a rope at the back entrance. Seating outside consists of colorful picnic tables. The wind and insects seem well managed at the outside seating, which has been a minor issue at other restaurants nearby, so don't be discouraged to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Lastly every person on staff was absolutely wonderful. I can't recommend this little gem strongly enough and wish we had time to come back to see the live music they have on some evenings. read more

Came for breakfast yesterday so we could all get some French toast. We sat outside in a covered space. Table was a bit sticky. They use styrofoam coffee cups and plastic ware. Our waitress was extremely nice. Food was okay. Very basic French toast and a decent berry compote. We had 3 orders of French toast total, one monte cristo, and some bacon/sausage sides. The kitchen forgot to make the third French toast so by the time it came everyone was done. Great set up with the outdoor seating in the yard and seems like it could be a fun place to hang out but not sure I would go back. read more

THE Beach place! Honestly I am not a breakfast person (early mornings are not my things) but I woke up early just for their breakfast sandwich. During the weekend the waitlist starts at 8a! Over two visits we had pancakes (one order gets you two), egg breakfast sandwiches on a biscuit, home fries, and plates of bacon. All delicious! Pro tip: ditch the family. Art's is small, even with their epics backyard seating the space is lit mites and the wait times are long. Come solo or with your favorite person to shorten your wait. read more

Came here for a quick lunch and a nice greasy cheese burger. Ordered the "baby art" and it was filling! I think the original burger they offer is a 1/2lb burger. The burger was perfect and fries crispy. It's kinda small inside so if it's bad weather (cold and/or rain/wind) you may want to get there early as it's first come first serve or if you don't mind a wait the building is interesting to look around. At first we were worried our server wasn't friendly but once she came to the table and time or two she was all smiles. Thanks guys! Can't wait to visit again. read more

Went here on a Sunday in March when everything else was closed. What a great experience, it's been there forever and has a good vibe. Ordered the cheeseburger special and it was fabulous. Crab cake sandwich was so tender and lightly breaded, delicious. Buffalo chicken wrap was a solid wrap and really good, just didn't stand up because the other 2 entrees were amazing.
