Okay, I've been to Italy, and this is still my top rated pizza. Arturo's pizza is literally the perfect pizza, with fluffy crust and thin slices. My favorite is the Margherita, a classic. All the ingredients taste so fresh and are just SO GOOD. They do everything well, even the pasta! Their mushroom ravioli is also so good. When going with my friend, I was so torn between getting the ravioli and the pizza, and I decided on the ravioli. That just means next time gotta get the pizza!!! I've traveled far and wide and have eaten pizza in countless places including the place of origin (Naples, Italy) and I must say, this is the best pizza I have had on this side of the Atlantic. This pizza is the closest thing I have found to my all time favorite (50 Kalo in Naples). Not only is the Margherita amazing, the truffle mushroom ravioli are TO DIE for. The raviolis have to be in my top 3 dishes I've ever had in my life. This is my go to place to bring people who are visiting from out of town. I went to this restaurant many times when I was younger and it was still Arturo's. I'd always loved it, and it took me many months to finally go to their new location. I will say- the vibe is not quite as great. The location is a little strange and not quite as welcoming as it used to be. It literally does not matter in the slightest though because I just had the most delicious pasta I've ever had in my life. I had a bite of the Cinghiale and I think probably ascended. I don't even **like** a lot of the individual ingredients of that dish, so I probably wouldn't have ordered it for myself, but I tasted a bite from someone at my table, and I am forever a changed person. Oh! I also felt pretty emotionally impacted by the stringbeans with garlic. I almost forgot about them because the pasta was just so good. I ended up eating an entire plate of it (even though it wasn't what I ordered). So, firstly, I'd like to recommend the cinghiale, if that's not clear. Secondly, I'd really recommend going with a small group and getting a few different dishes for the table. It's a lot of fun and I guarantee the things you'll be tasting will all be delicious. Artie's has just got something figured out in the food department that I can't wrap my head around but would love to witness as many times as I can. I'm not a huge foodie, and I rarely find myself floored by a meal, and yet here I lay, digesting, happily remembering when I had that yummy ass pasta in my mouth. This is the best pizza NJ has to offer- simply put. Their pizza is out of this world every darn time, the veggies and pretty much everything is farm to table and is so fresh. Very family friendly and gets packed with a two hour wait time very quickly. You won't go wrong with anything off of their menu but always pay attention to the "specials" menu- this salads and pie are delicious. Our favorite pizza place thus far;) Tip: get there right at 5 to secure the first seating, the restaurant is relatively small so you want to be in line and waiting before they open the door. Had such an amazing experience after dining here for the first time last night. Everything from the kale caesar, pizza, and mouth watering pasta dishes. Found myself here with a group of friends who are in search of the best pizza in NJ and I would say this is hands down the best place I've had in a while. Pleasantly surprised. Not sure if it's seasonal but must have the Brussels sprout pizza...to die for. The specials were amazing. Wish I had enough space for more. The best part of trying out a restaurant you get to taste a little bit of everything. Tired Wild Mushroom Ravioli, Sausage Ragu, and Pasta Cinghiale. All were amazing but the wild mushroom ravioli was the table favorite. Wish the Cinghiale was a little bit more flavorful, expecting a little more layers but regardless was an amazing dish. Had the Pasta with wild boar and truffle after the farmer's salad and asparagus pizza with fresh mozzarella. All really good and fairly priced. A bit loud but family friendly and service attentive. Love this restaurant! It's close by to my job and my coworkers introduced me. On occasion we will order lunch- the crostini is by far my favorite menu item. Their pizza is so delicious. I finally went there last week to actually dine in and the wait wasn't bad- for a group of 5 it was 20 mins. We didn't mind, we opened up some of the wine we brought and they conveniently have a wine opener and plastic wine glasses available just inside the front door. They don't take reservations and is a very popular place, so expect to wait (but it's soooo worth it). Service was great, their farmers pie (which changes frequently) was delicious. read more

I checked out reviews on Arturo's on Trip Advisor and decided to go there. It's a small and quaint restaurant with a big waiting line. They don't take reservations and it's walk-in only. The wait is worth it though! They have a great variety of appetizers (small plates) and salads to start off with. I got the chickpea plate to start. The chickpeas were good, but not exceptional. I ordered the 16 inch margarita pizza and it was served piping hot. What an awesome pizza! It was well worth the wait and commute to Maplewood. The last time I had pizza this delicious and awesome was in NYC a few years ago. The ingredients were just right and perfect. Just an amazing tasting pizza that hit the spot on a cold rainy day. As a former restaurant/pizzeria owner this is our go to place if I am not making it at home. The pizza is fantastic from the dough to the ingredients and is always perfectly charred from the wood-fired ovens. The seasonal menu is great and the constantly have innovative specials. We also enjoy the Saturday tasting menu and the ability to call ahead to pair your wine with the multiple courses. The only reason they are not 5 stars is no reservations. Try Arturo's if you are looking for specialty/gourmet pizza. One of the best pies I've tasted. I would say second to Grimaldi's in Hoboken. The dough is light and airy, but crispy on the outside. I would also recommend the farmers salad. It is fresh and light! It is made with local vegetables and fruit including arugula, pears, sunflower seeds and balsamic vinaigrette. It's not on the menu, but is listed on the chalkboard. Come early or go on a weeknight. This place gets packed on the weekends. If you are looking to go on a Friday or Saturday, Coda is a great place to grab a drink while you wait. read more

They kept up their standards during quarantine when there was only pickup and now that they're back for in-person dining- the quality of staff and service is back too. Being a relatively small establishment, this can be somewhat problematic if you're not a patient person, but it's all for good reason. The food here really is outstanding. They endeavor to use locally-sourced, fresh ingredients, and this tends to dictate their menu. There are some staples which you'll always find, but the rotating availability of produce throughout the year creates an ever-evolving dynamic menu of wonderful options to try each time you visit. Their pizza is Napolitano, so it's super thin with a chunkier crust, cooked quickly at blistering temperatures. It's delicious and very easy to consume large quantities of (speaking from experience). They have a great choice of ingredients and always offer a "farm pie," which is a rotating special based on locally available produce and proteins. It's always inventive and so far, always outstanding. To that end, they also offer a number of amazing salads and other main dishes to choose from. I have dined there several times, trying something different each visit, and have never been disappointed. The rub with Arturo's is their popularity. It's a local institution and people come from far and wide to make the pilgrimage here, so you will often experience a wait. In their defense, they move quickly and do their best to turn tables as fast as possible, but sometimes it can't be avoided. My suggestion is to go at off hours or arrive right when they open to avoid disappointment. They offer indoor and outdoor seating when weather permits, so if you're willing to forego that quaint sidewalk table for a communal one inside, that can also improve your chances. Small pizzeria near maplewood train station. Has small parking area right beside of the restaurant. It is cozy and casual. I liked the ambience and decoration. We were first customers for the day but got filled up so quickly in an hour. We ordered sautéed kale, santos pizza and mushroom ravioli. They were all delicious. Staffs were friendly, service was attentive. It is also BYOB without corkage fee. I brought additional pizza to go on the way out. It was good but not as delicious as the one right out of the oven. I think I was at a nearby outdoor table the same night as Andrew D. below (whose review is an example of how reviews should be written, incidentally). I dined at a small round table with my two teenaged kids literally on the street corner outside the place, and it could not have been more fun! Jessica, the hostess who seated us, could not have been nicer or more accommodating - what a nice woman. That went for the rest of the staff, all of whom checked in with us at various stages of our meal to make sure we were happy in a friendly, low-key way that made us feel well cared for. We looked at our menus, went inside to order at the counter, and had our delicious salads delivered to our table within minutes. We then devoured two delicious wood-fired pizzas, a four-cheese and the real standout, the Tartufi, which has sausage, cheese, mushrooms and truffle oil. Mmmm good. As Andrew stated below, the pizzas are outstanding and this place is such a good value, especially considering it is a BYO (when no teen kids are in tow, that is!). Can't wait to try their evening tasting menu soon. Arturo's is a winning formula, and I cannot believe it took me all these years of living in the area to discover it. I had no idea what to expect of this place. I did not look at the menu in advance either. I assumed it was a typical byob Italian place. I was wrong.. My companion and I tried to go here about a month ago but the wait was more than an hour. We tried again the other night and although there was a 40 minute wait, we decided to stick it out this time. I am glad that we did. The restaurant is small yet quaint... maybe 15 tables and only one that seats 5 or more. The menu reminded me of many restaurants I tried while out in Los Angeles. Farm to table goodness is what they present. The menu is small but desirable. The focus is on the brick oven pizza. We started with a 'Farmer's Salad' that was posted on the specials chalkboard. It was $12 and was made up of fresh urban greens, figs, walnuts, sun flower seeds, ricotta salata and a balsamic vinaigrette. It was a good size and just right for sharing between two people. Everything was fresh and delicious however the balsamic was a tad too sour. We then chose to share a small special pizza called 'Maple Bacon' which was $14. It was a brick oven pizza with fresh mozzarella, bacon, saute' yellow onions and maple syrup. It was divine. The bacon had a great flavor, the crust was crisp and smokey and the maple syrup really gave a nice contrast to the salty bacon. Along with that, we ordered a side of the meatballs which were $9. This is where my foodie emotions took over... BEST. MEATBALLS. EVER! And I have had many! They were super moist, perfectly seasoned, charred on the top and the sauce was savory and delicious. I dipped the pizza right into it and it made for a perfect meal. The staff are made up of mostly young people and they did a fine job of serving and presenting the food in a very timely manor in order to keep those tables turning. It is no surprise that Arturo's has been voted the best pizzeria in New Jersey which is a state that has no shortage of remarkable pizzerias. I have had the pleasure of traveling through Italy and Arturo's is on par with what you'd find there. When we go to Arturo's we usually get the speciality pies which change throughout the year according to whatever ingredients are in season locally. You may have spring onions or leeks served on Fontina or squash served with ricotta for a few weeks and then you won't see it on the menu again until those vegetables are in season next year.
