We continued with an Italian American Sandwich (savory) and a Margherita Pizza (Awesome). Everything was delish. The restaurant was very inviting. Both indoor and outdoor seating. And plenty of seats for a small or large group. The service was professional. Multiple people helped us out. The people working behind the counter were very courteous. We also ordered the pepperoni pizza which was a little too charred for my taste. Our friend's pizza came out much later, so much so that our pizza was already cold when served. I ordered what was popular based on reviews... meatballs, wild boar pasta (cinghiale), and orecchiette piccante. The cinghiale was one of the best pastas I've ever had. It is comparable to restaurants in NYC. The meatballs and orecchiette were okay. Not the best, not the worst. A lot of people around us were ordering pizzas so I would try that next time. There is a parking lot behind but it is pretty tight/ small. I saw some street parking as well. The restaurant is pretty big inside. The service was a little weird. I love the owners of Artie's for adding depth to our humble side of town. I often have business lunches here or lunch with friends or grab a latte for myself while running errands. I buy the perfect chocolate croissants for my sons along with a loaf of the bread and they slice it for me. I hear there is a party room upstairs. Once, during the summer, there was a long wait for a table for my son's going away to college lunch and we were all sitting outside waiting. But it was cool because they had this cute little portable bar set up and we ordered some cool drinks. I love the Mortadella sandwich, their big salad, their little garbanzo bean appetizer, their potato pizza (all of their pizzas, actually) and their specialty drinks. The reason for one less star than five? Their staff is a bit unwaivering, they don't seat you until your guest comes, they don't take reservations and parking can be impossible at times even with the small parking lot in the back. Plus, for some reason (unfathamably to me) my boyfriend and one of my sons are not big fans of the food. My boyfriend (raised on Jersey City Italian and Puerto Rican food) feels the portions are skimpy and my son just flat out does not like the food at Artie's (he's more keen on Midwestern Americana food like potatoes and baked chicken). This spot is oddly located on the street and I missed it as sign is small. They do have little parking lot in the back and some street parking. Definitely nice modern aesthetic inside. The waitress was nice and checked in on us periodically. The menu is a bit limited in choices and wish they had more extensive non alcoholic beverage options. They do have a bakery inside where you can get pastry and coffee as well. For entrees ordered magherita pizza with jalapeños which my friend seem to enjoy and orecchiette picante which had ricotta and breadcrumbs on top. The breadcrumbs were a nice touch that I enjoyed the flavor it added however I wish the pasta had little more sauce and was hotter. The pasta felt cold quickly. I cannot believe it. I called around 4:30 pm for dinner pickup. They told me they were so busy that food wouldn't be ready until 7:30 pm. I guess will not be going there or ordering from them on weekends. They have no online order system either. Terrible. I miss them in the old Maplewood location, they had all the order system setup, and now they are so close to our house, but I cannot go there because they are so busy... So sad. I drove by last Friday night around 5 pm, and the line outside was crazy, with the parking full. I tried again on Sunday at noon time. I called again around 10:30 am, and they had it ready by 11:30 am. Much larger place, and it was not crowded like Friday night. We picked up some freshly baked pastries as well. I ordered Boar pasta which was excellent, and margarita pizza, which was good as well with fresh mozz cheese. I would go back there for lunchtime for their pasta dishes. The pizza was okay, but nothing that was striking about it. So I learned that this place is good for lunch, not so much for dinner. The price was average as well. Personal pie 11" was around $17, and pasta was about $18. I recommend this place a try. The pastry with blueberry was so good, very fresh blueberries. We also got one with ham and cheese. Previously Arturo's, Artie's still caters to their beloved customers with a modern and bigger space and still keeping the same great food they would serve. Our hostess and servers were friendly and amicable, just worth mentioning that because of some reviews saying that they had a bad experience with customer service. We had a party of 15 and were sat on 3 different tables which we were told of beforehand. Didn't mind this. It is a pretty large group and we weren't the first in line for dinner, so diners will be staggered on their way out. For starters we had the meatballs, crostini, and kale salad. Such simple dishes but so good! All seasoned simply yet well. Would def do the crostinis if you were to pick one. For pizzas, we had the margherita, corn and shishito, arugula and prosciutto, half pepperoni/half margherita. The crust was perfectly charred for all the pizzas and the undercrust held its shape and crunch. Pizza sauce had just the right tartness and flavor. For pasta, we had the wild boar ragu and the daily pasta (corn, tomato, zucchini) to change up the palate. The daily pasta was refreshing and light, and the pasta noodles were cooked perfectly. The wild boar ragu was creamy and heavy and filling, perfectly seasoned. Because there will always be a line, there is an outdoor waiting area with some benches and chairs for customers to wait at. There are also serves to take drink orders as you wait if you wish. Parking is a problem as it's street parking. There are side streets available but it would be nice to have a bid dedicated lot since the resto is pretty big and can seat alot of people at one time. The resto rooms are clean and smells nice- this is always a point for me to notice because I just hate skeevy restrooms. Must come back for their pastries and coffee in the morning. I used to go to Arturo's Pizza in Maplewood Avenue that became with the expansion of a bakery, Arty's. The painting food at Auturos was simply sublime. It was worth waiting on line to eat there. The new restaurant is far bigger but much noiser making conversation difficult. The menu consist of lots of appetizers and pizza but only four pasta dishes. There's also many mixed drinks. Most people order the crostini and ricotta for the appetizer and it's great. The pizzas are good but not as good as they were. It is not excellent, I'll stand online good. Where the menu really falls down is having four pasta dishes. While some reviews said they would let you order other dishes like the mushroom pasta, a favorite that's still being asked for and not just by me, you can't. None of them were appealing, so rather than have a the crostini a small pizza and sharing a pasta, we shared a larger pizza. Service was prompt, the ambiance was "this used to be light manufacturing and is now a restaurant", which means no baffling. It's just really noisy. Is it worth going to? Sort of a toss-up. There are only 4 pasta entrees. But several different pizzas. We opted for the individual size mushroom pizza. It was very good. The knives are not sharp enough to eat the pizza with a knife and fork ( believe me, we tried). But it was crisp and flavorful. The service is split to several people. The old adage when a place expands, it loses its touch is sadly true here. When it was "Arturo's" they offered two kinds of pizza - both margarita and traditional. The margarita was very good but the traditional was off the hook. For some reason, now that Arturo's has expanded and became 'Artie's', they only do Neapolitan style now, and axed the traditional. Imo, it's a big mistake, but Artie's is clearly getting the last laugh - as you easily face a two hour wait on weekends. The fact they don't take reservations is great for them - i.e., guests are 'trapped' and almost always order drinks and apps while waiting. However, you'd think stuffing us in like cattle - without so much as a text when your table is ready, they would at least serve you a martini in a proper glass. The 'half size' tiny glasses are extortion. As far as the apps, we tried the beats and chickpeas. both were just okay - the beets are great but could use more flavor. they use cheap balsamic. Same for the chickpeas. just okay. The main attraction- the Neapolitan pizza is very good - great crust and consistency of dough, but overall they could use a bit more flavor. even just a bit of kosher salt, like razza does, would help. again, I'm sure they don't care as they're packed 24/7. But the new spot definitely drops them down a notch in my book due to the lack of parking, the 'every man for himself' vibe to get a table, and the nixing of their best imo pizza. read more

Let's begin by saying that I thought for sure I'd be giving the pizza 5 stars. I ordered two Margherita one pepperoni and one sausage Margherita. Now that being said, have your pizza man scrape his oven. Right off the bat the black sut under my pies, no good! The bitter acrid taste made dough almost inedible. I'm one who doesn't like an over abundance of cheese but Sheesh could you spare that delicious, buttery all around great quality mozzarella? What little I tasted was really good and I can tell it's great quality mozzarella. Sauce? Almost non existent. How about the sausage. Like they took a piece of a sweet sausage and started pinching the tiniest morsels of meat off of it! Almost rationing it! The dough is super thin in middle of pie but extremely thick around the edges making the crust super chewy. Whomever is weighing and rolling the dough is doing a terrible job at it..way too much dough for a 16" pie. I've been wanting to try this place for years now and never had the opportunity. I've even sent my coworkers there and I get the chance to go and it's a dud...my wife and son said dad..no more please never again which is unfortunate. I'm a huge pizza snob and used to be a pizza man at Sbarro Livingston Mall so I know good dough and how to construct and make pizza. The pizza was very crispy and burn naked however I enjoy it like that so please note that if you like your lighter ask for it. As far as the bread and oil oil I was not impressed at all, bread is amazing but I believe that's my fault they gave us pure olive oil. No seasoning or nothing on it just straight up olive oil. Maybe it's because I'm Portuguese so I'm used to the oil oil being season but plain oil was crazy to me how people enjoyed that. As far as olives they was fantastic, I love them so much are they taste more pure like more tree is that makes sense. The cola was okay it's not that's tasteful as the regular coke however it's more syrupy but it's drinkable. Lastly the chocolate crossantis were good. As well I recommend asking for a side of Marianna and dipping the pizza in it, it made it 10 times better. The restaurant is an interesting mix of wood-fired pizza and Italian food and a bakery and coffee shop, which was very fun. Our service was good overall and we had no issues throughout our meal. We had the roasted broccoli for an appetizer and it was absolutely delicious; the ricotta salata and the lemon were a great combo and we could have eaten just a big bowl of that. Our pizza was also delicious (we got the Santo) and the sausage and chili oil were a great combo.
