We debated on whether to put…read morenatural grass or artificial turf, and we decided to go with artificial turf for a couple of reasons: First, we live in CA, and the mismanagement of water resources has caused the price of water to skyrocket. Secondly, a lot of the current turf looks very realistic and resembles natural grass. Third, I wouldn't have to mow the lawn anymore!! We put out the feelers on Sunday night at 8:30 pm, not expecting to get a reply until Monday morning, but Jacob from Verdigrass responded within 10 minutes! I, along with the wife was impressed by the quick response so we scheduled an estimate with Jacob for Wednesday. Jacob was very accommodating with my work schedule and actually came to my house by 8:00 am. Since Jacob was coming from Vallejo, I knew it was a long distance and he would have to leave very early in the morning, so again, we were impressed. My meeting with Jacob went very well. Since this was my first experience with artificial turf, I had a bunch of questions, which Jacob answered fully. It was also very helpful that he had several samples that I could see and feel. After getting my quote, which came in much lower than another company. We decided to go with Verdigrass due to the experience we had thus far with Jacob. Communication with Jacob was stellar, and he was able to schedule the job for Saturday morning. The material was dropped off on Friday, and Jacob's crew, headed by Juan, arrived at 0730 am, a half hour earlier than the 0800 am start Jacob had mentioned. The crew was efficient and highly knowledgeable and had the job done in approximately 5.5 hours! We could not be happier with our experience with Jacob, Juan and Verdigrass. Out of the nine contractors we interviewed, Renzo was the only one who insisted on no cement…read moreapproach; made me consult an arborist; suggested to grade the whole front lot instead of just replacing the old pathway; and genuinely cared about my plants.  We didn't want to hire him at the beginning and was even about to sign contract with someone else. It all started with the inquiry of concrete footing which he refused to do and I wanted to know why. He replied promptly. During our communication, Renzo's clarity, persistence, knowledge and patience impressed and persuaded me, not to mention his very reasonable quote. Instinctively I knew I could trust Renzo and he is the right guy for my project, even though I haven't met him.  So I waited a month and hired him. The wait was worth it. They built three walls and one patio, redesigned front left yard by grading and building a new pebble pathway with statue, installed lighting and irrigation system that had better dripping rings. They also revamped the driveway that made it look brand new and pebble-covered the right front yard.  It was truly a remarkable experience. Not only they did an excellent job with fine craftmanship, but their punctuality, hardwork, efficiency, know-how, discipline, organization, respect, kindness and neatness were a force to be reckoned with and an inspiration beyond a mere landscaping job. They take pride at what they do and the result is phenomenal! Before and during the three-week construction, Renzo was very respectful and made me feel my opinion matters. He was responsive, accommodating, flexible, easygoing and honest. He listened. He always showed how it would look. When something didn't work out, he was open to suggestions and assisted with solutions. I felt he had my best interest. The level of care to my plants led to high survival rate during transplant. I also noticed one of my trees was magically recovered from disease and the other was vigorously blossoming, which has never happened before. They brought life to my garden. Everything was done very nicely. They cleaned up the whole place and it was much better and cleaner than when they started. They also showed up for additional work as promised. Renzo and his crew transformed my old and messy space into the most beautiful and meaningful garden/haven that I could have only dreamed of. With the new lawn, now my garden has never looked better. I needed artificial turf for a 25'x12' (300sq ft) area in our backyard. That area once had…read morebeautiful grass but since we adopted a pup a few years ago (he's a 80 pounder now), he has destroyed the lawn completely. Cleaning his muddy paws started to become a chore especially when it rained and the dead patches of grass and exposed dirt definitely was not a pretty sight. We decided artificial turf was our best option. I did my homework and began researching turf installations specifically for dog owners. PET OWNER PRO TIP: Our pup uses this lawn area for number ones and twos and proper drainage was my main focus. For everyone out there that are pet owners and have the same dilemma, here's a few things to consider (just my opinion from forums I read): -Do not use weed barrier -Do not use sand in the top layer of the base material, use finer crushed gravel (above the base rock and below the turf) -Do not use sand as an in-fill, use a pet friendly in fill (we used Camofill, Hugo sells this at his shop) *Sand will hold onto the uric acid and in time, will create unwanted odor. -Purchase turf that is pet friendly (latex free, and has optimum flow backing) Again, primary focus was on permeable materials! I reached out to four distributors/contractors with my wish list above and I received quotes. I also sent a photo of the lawn area that we wanted replaced to simplify the process. What I liked about Hugo's response was he gave me the exact cost for the turf (Freedom 75 Olive) and materials, based on exactly what i was looking for. This is because Hugo is a distributor and has a storefront (off Maybury Road in San Jose) and knows turfs whereas the other contractors knew nothing about pet friendly turf because they were just installers. The only thing with Hugo is, they just sell the turf and they do not do installation...BUT Hugo told me had contacts with installers he has worked with in the past for his other customers. Hugo called his contacts and was able to get back to me the very next day. During my research, i found that installation costs for turf ranges between $7sq ft to $14sq ft. Hugo was able to locate an installer, Leonel, who was able to do the install on the lower end of the sq ft cost. Hugo did the leg work, made the phone calls, and got back to me regarding installation and that was above and beyond his scope since sales of turf is what his store specializes in, not installation. He did me a huge solid by finding an installer- amazing! We scheduled the install the following week. Hugo had the turf, nails and other supplies dropped off at 6AM and Leonel and two of his guys showed up by 10am. They removed and hauled away 3-4 inches of dirt (25'x12' area), brought in base rock and crushed gravel, compacted everything, and cut and installed the grass. They were completely done by 6PM, in one day! And the results are amazing. Their attention to detail showed as I have eight existing sprinklers and they installed the grass neatly wrapped around each sprinkler which I did not expect. Im so impressed with their work and the turf Hugo recommended, that we may convert the front lawn to artificial turf next spring and i know exactly where to buy the turf and who will install it! Thank you Hugo for taking care of us! I always try and support local mom and pop shops and Hugo definitely impressed me with his customer service, extremely fast response time, and no hassle communication. FG answered all the questions and accommodated our requests to align with the tile vendor recommendations. Price competitiveness: We spoke with 4 paver companies. 1 didn't want to do Porcelain tiles+ Paver, 1 didn't meet our budget, job was too small for one. Project Management: regular site visits by the site lead. Eduardo is a gem. They helped us pick the right material, picked up the tiles, did the dry layout and kept us updated on the schedule Work site: Saul and his team were punctual, spotless at the end of workday and walked through every step of the process. During the project, the support wire for our string lights was broken. While the sprinklers that were being removed were properly capped off as requested, other parts of our irrigation system were damaged. Several irrigation tubes appear to have been cut or disconnected, and the low-voltage power wires for the irrigation system were also cut. The most frustrating part is that troubleshooting and repairing the irrigation system may require digging up sections of the newly installed turf, creating additional expense and risking damage to a brand-new installation. The turf itself looks great, but I wish more care had been taken to protect the existing irrigation infrastructure and other outdoor features during the installation.
