It doesn't get any better when you need a real pro who can refinish the 50 year old oak floors and lay down the new italian tiles with laser precision. Arthur Adams is The Man. We had water damage, wear and tear from active teenagers, spilled paint, deep nasty furniture scratches and black stains that defied comprehension. Even the best-protected floor was yellowed from the old sealant. I thought it would all have to go and just be replaced. Arthur convinced us that the oak was solid and just needed to be redone. Proper refinishing is very work intensive, with many iterative steps of re-sanding and sealing. He replaced maybe 20 bad slats seamlessly. He also tiled the entry way after carefully installing those Hardie concrete boards underneath. We went for five coats of polyurethane so the job took four days to complete. Arthur Adams is very skilled at his craft. He took our 35-year old dark, damaged hardwood floors (and stairs) and turned them into a work of art! I hired him about 1.5 years ago to refinish my existing hardwood floors, install new unfinished hardwood (where there was carpet) and stain it all one color. He also refinished my stairs, fixed some leveling problems with my floors and installed carpet for me. It was important to me that the old existing hardwood and new hardwood be uniform and the same color. It is hard to match floor color exactly with pre-finished flooring if you have existing wood floor unless you tear everything out. He was able to customize, mix stains and I was able to pick any color I wanted for my floor. 1.5 years later, I still love my floors, they are beautiful. Exactly what I wanted. I feel like he brought out the amazing colors in the natural wood that wouldn't have come out through pre-finished flooring. While he was pulling up the old carpet in one of the bedrooms, he brought to my attention that the room was on a noticeable slant (it is an old house) and he was able to fix that issue too. He was a true professional from the start, always returned my calls and texts (there were a lot!) and checked up frequently. He was able to fit himself into our project timelines and worked quickly with his crew. His estimate also came in at a reasonable price. He was also the only contractor that asked if I wanted him to take off his shoes before stepping inside (this is silly but it mattered to me!) It took over a year and a massive amount of frustration but finally I found a contractor who "gets it". From day one, Arthur was proactive in moving the project forward, prompt on answering my questions and keeping me up to date, conscientious about my home, skilled in the actual installation, and a genuinely nice guy to boot. When he found the flooring wasn't optimally stacked, he re-stacked it. All 3,000 pounds of it. When the thresholds didn't color match very well, he took them, stripped and re-stained them -- making an extra set in case there were problems down the line. When upon removing the baseboards, and finding mold, they tracked down the source for me and made recommendations on how to minimize the impact, even laying short boards to minimize the impact in case there was a problem in the future. After having a very bad experience with our remodeling contractor we needed to have our old (75 year old) oak flooring refinished. We were referred to Art Adams of ArtWorks Hardwood floors. He was professional, personal, knowledgeable, and more than generous with the time he spent with us. He immediately saw problem areas that we hadn't recognized before. The floor now looks amazing. Call these guys for professional high quality work with exceptional results. I just had Arthur put in a new floor for me, and it turned out great. I generally do most of the remodel work myself, including building cabinets, so I am pretty familiar with woodworking. Nevertheless, I researched hardwood floors extensively, especially the critical finishing techniques. I talked to a number of contractors before choosing Arthur. Suffice it to say that Arthur knows his craft, not just the broad strokes, but also the little details that make all the difference. He is very experienced and skilled in handling the equipment (floor sanders, edgers, buffers, etc) and knows the nuances of applying the various finishes. We went with 3-1/4" quarter-sawn red oak with a light honey-caramel colored stain. He first sealed the stain, then top coated with two layers of Bono Traffic (water-based catalyzed commercial finish) in satin. The result is just gorgeous, light and airy, but a more finished look than just natural wood. It took about 35 manhours to lay the roughly 550 sqft of my floor and another 34 hrs to finish it--the latter phase was spread over 5 days to allow for drying times of the various finishes. Being a hands-on engineer type and very curious, I am certain that I drove Arthur nuts watching over every detail... but he (and his assistant Ryan) soldiered on cheerfully and did a great job. I was especially impressed that they cared about the quality of the job and had high standards of their own. In terms of pricing, Arthur is fair, but not cheap, and there are plenty out there who charge more. You can easily go with a large company and spend a LOT more on the say-so of a slick sales-monkey with an expensive truck--you will not see him again. But I much rather pay the guy who does the actual job and cares about his name on the business. You can also pay less and go with someone who will cut every corner and cannot communicate the basics. As for the guy who complained here: NEVER ask contractors for their "actual price" on material any more than asking women for their "actual age" or "actual weight".... what matters is the price you agree on and the skill of the person doing the work (things are far more complicated with women...but you get my point). read more

I first met Art through a general contractor. Basically, I purchased a home with old white oak floors. The floors were heavily damaged. I mean the previous owners didnt take any care, even painted on them. I had brought in several hardwood specialists and each indicated that it would be better to pull up and replace the hardwood. Art came in, looked, indicated this was a great floor and just needed some serious attention. He came in and within a few days, I had brand new restored floors. I had him match the floors with the rest of the house (installing new wood and matching to the existing). It came out amazing. I am also now looking to have him do tile. He does a great job. He has the patience and definitely treats your floors like his own.The result is simply artwork, which I am extremely happy with. read more

Arthur did our floors throughout the house about 4 years ago. I think after "testing" his work for that long, I can surely say that he did a great job! He is very patient and takes the time explaining to you what and why he is doing. He never try to "sell"us on anything we didn't need and we never felt pressured. After our order of floors (from a different place) fell through at the day of scheduled installation. We had to just choose what was available at the warehouse that day. It ended up being a pretty cheap laminate... And even with a low grade laminate, Arthur did a fantastic job! We only had one of the little end strips (the borders they put where the floor ends) But that was because it was a high traffic area (kitchen) and I believe we moved the fridge through it and thats why it came off.. But Arthur came the next day and fixed it with no questions asked and promptly fixed it. We recently bought another property and after getting quotes from different floor companies that EACH and every one was trying to convince me to do hardwood floors instead of laminate. Arthur actually said that we shouldn't do it (put hardwood floors) because of some structural and foundation issues! So again we didn't feel like he's just trying to make money but doing a professional job. I would whole heartedly recommend Arthur and his expertise for your flooring. read more

Want your house to look like the Taj Mahal the work done by Arthur and his team is amazing. Beautiful and not expensive top quality products and takes major pride in his work. I have all my entrance areas , closets done in a beautiful travertine tile and the rest of the house in wood floors and beautiful carpeting. I cant tell you how beautiful it is. In 2012 I found Arthur when I originally wanted to install hardwood. He was extremely knowledgable and helpful when it came to selecting the best product for my home. His install was outstanding and you can tell he takes the time to do the job right. He also did baseboard and crown molding and the quality was equally as good. For the last 2.5 years, I receive nothing but compliments on the work he did for me. Fastforward to 2014 and I wanted to do a small add-on job to my floor. Arthur came back and did another outstanding job. His quotes are competitive with the industry and I'm not sure if you would be nearly as happy with the job if you went with someone else. Can't believe he's got the nerve to replied back with "goodluck" when I told him I need to know his discounted price on woods so that I could determine if his total price (wood and labor) is comparable to my other quotes. He answered phone calls, showed up on time, and kept his commitments. He does the work on his own or with his guys and was always there making sure things were perfect.
