I happened to be in the Carlsbad area and heard they have a place similar to the Liberty Station Public Market where there are multiple eateries in one location. I was told to go to the windmill and that's what I did. I walked in, looked around and decided I wanted to try Argentinian food. I looked at the menu overhead and the skirt steak burrito caught my eye. The burrito had an abundance of flavor with which my palate agreed. I loved the tortilla that encompassed the fillings because it had cheese around it that gave it a nice texture and taste. The skirt steak was grilled very nicely, the sliced avocado and other veggies added to the overall experience. The chipotle sauce brought it all together. I really enjoyed this burrito. I was a little torn on my feeling about this restaurant. I had the Chimichurri Tri-Tip. This comes in a sandwich form. Now the Tri tip meat and Churri sauce was outstanding. The meat is cooked to a medium rare. Great cuts of meat. The size of the sandwich is on the small side. It cost about $18 for a sandwich that can fit in a ziplock bag. I also had a. Beef empanada. This empanada is filled with deliciously seasoned ground beef. The inside tastes great. Now the outside was not to my liking. As a Latino. I expect a crisp outside of an empanada. Stopped by the Windmill food courts for a late lunch. Ordered from several food stall. I was intrigued about the sampler: Tri-Tip w/ chimichurri sauce, Picanha w/ gaucho sauce, NY steak w/ creamy mushroom sauce. The serving was all served in one box. The way that the meat was chopped it was hard to distinguish if the cuts of beef was what was on the menu. The beef was cooked closer to medium well and so it was a bit dry and tough. Thankfully there were the sauces to pair with the meat. The food court was loud and busy. The stall is tucked in the back and so that may have been the reason that I didn't see someone available to take my order initially. And yes, I saw the negative reviews. Here's my positive retort. The food was outstanding. This is not some mystery meat sandwich situation. It's real steak. Tri-tip. Cooked medium with actual flavor. It's the kind of sandwich you break apart, eat with your hands, and get a little messy with. Steak in one hand, bread in the other, maybe a swipe of chimichurri in between. That's how you do it. The bread was crispy and light, and that chimichurri sauce deserves its own applause. The empanada was also a highlight. Flaky outside, flavorful inside, the kind you immediately regret not ordering two of. And let's be real. Seventeen bucks for a real steak sandwich in 2025 is a win. The sandwich I ordered was DELICIOUS! The sandwiches do not come with a side, so I went with the Steak & Frites sandwich which comes with fries in the sandwich. I was very impressed with the steak - they were thick pieces grilled to perfection. The baguette was also thick and crispy. Although some sandwiches are very pricey ($25-$32!?), you do receive a good amount of quality steak, and if it was just a steak & frites plate, it'd cost way more, so I think it's justified. I wish there was a dedicated attendant at the counter to answer questions. I did ring a bell and it looked like the cook came out to answer my question, but I think having someone there would make the experience better for potential customers. I ordered the Gaucho Sampler and all three meats were distinctive and deliciously cooked to a perfect medium rare. Argentinian Grill Comes to the Windmill Food Court Never had the pleasure of having Argentinian grilled meats, but I went in for lunch, and I was not disappointed by this latest offering at the Windmill. Originally a catering company only, this new sandwich joint looks authentic with all of the dark wood and the video of beautiful beef footage, and the gaucho running the register. While menu pics are still pending along with any drinks, I can report very friendly and helpful service in helping select a couple delicious food items... Tri-Tip Sandwich. Chimichurri with sliced tri-tip underneath melted mozz on a baguette? Sign me up! This tasty sammy was actually not dry, cheesy, and had some tender meats. Chimichurri was not too salty like some folks do it. You didn't have to try real hard to eat it like some awful steak sandwiches, and bread was nice and soft, making for a pleasant chewing experience. Possibly consider extra chimichurri for some extra punch along with extra cheese. Recommended item. The fries! Imagine a near copycat McDonald's without too much salt with a tasty aioli (really mayo and chipotle blend). Crispy, too. What a treat that pairs nicely with the tri-tip sandwich. You can actually unlock a couple good food combos here: (1) dip the sandwich in the sauce and (2) place the fries underneath your sandwich as you bite into to allow the drippings to add some more fatty flavor to the fries. Definite recommend. Overall, a very satisfying and South American grilled meats sando experience that is definitely worth walking to the back of the food court for. The chorizo was good (more like a sausage, for those who don't know), but the bread was basically two pieces and got soggy fast from the salsa criolla. It fell apart immediately. Very messy. The chimichurri and salsa criolla were okay, not the best I've had. I've been to Argentina, so I know how good an authentic choripán can be. Still, Argentine food is hard to find around here, so I wouldn't rate it too low. I'd recommend it to friends just to try something different. The service was cordial, no problems there. read more

When I walked in, I wasn't greeted by the person working -- a girl wearing glasses who was sitting down on her phone. She didn't seem enthusiastic or even acknowledge me at first. When I asked her what sandwich she recommended, she just said she didn't know, which I found pretty rude and unhelpful. I decided to order the choripán, but then she told me they were out of it, so I went with the tri-tip sandwich instead. I thought it was going to come on baguette bread like the menu described, but it came on a completely different type of bread, which she never mentioned.
