I have stayed in a lot of hotels and this was by far the worse! My husband planned a one night stay for our Anniversary. The town is very nice but this hotel was not! The pictures really make everything look so much bigger and nice! Our jacuzzi tub was dirty. We didn't have enough towels. The decor is cute but old. The TV was a small tv. The deck upstairs was messy and dirty. The parking lot was very noisy. The beds were very uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place at all. My husband and I wish we read the yelp reviews before booking our room. Giving one star was hard. read more

This was our second stay at the Ascot Inn at the Rock. This stay was even better than the first. The manager Sean (along with all of the staff) were very accommodating, professional, friendly and polite. They made us feel welcomed and at home the second we stepped through the front door. We stayed in the exact same room, (a Jr. Suite with a fantastic view of the Rock), as we did on our first visit. My wife and I both love the jacuzzi tube, the king-sized bed and as mentioned the view of The Rock. The Ascot Inn provides Free breakfast every morning and Free wine tasting every Friday & Saturday evening. Lest I forget... the rooms a very reasonably priced! read more

I should have looked at Yelp before booking a room here through Expedia. The hotel lacks security, the door from the garage remains unlocked all night. But they lock the lobby area promptly at 9pm. I was surprised that anyone from the street could take the elevator up to any floor to anyone's room. The blinds in my room were broken. To me if they can't fix the minor things, the major things probably aren't maintained. The best view from any room is of their parking lot, beyond it 2.5 blocks away is the harbor. The other views are of their low-income neighbors' yards. I read another review wherein they were able to secure a later checkout. When I asked Alma(?) over the phone she was almost certain it wouldn't be a problem. However, when I got there David got very defensive and said Expedia owned that room and they had no control over it and that I should have booked the room with them directly because then they would have more flexibility to give me a later check out. I've never heard this excuse before and chalk it up to poor customer service. Amanda the front desk manager wasn't any kinder the next day. There was also a very strong body odor (ie. sweat) on the comforter when I first entered the room. No one was available to swap out comforters after 9pm. The fireplace worked but the A/C and heater were broken. For $129/night it was a complete rip off. They don't deserve to be in business and probably won't be much longer. There are other hotels in the area. I'd recommend the Best Western next door. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! We stayed here 2 years ago and it was nice but has seriously gone downhill! Room #1: We booked 3 nights, months in advance and they gave us a room right off the elevator, despite being no where near capacity. Furnishings are old and fireplace doesn't work. No biggie, please move us, no problem. Room #2: Everything old and worn, and fireplace doesn't work. Wife decides to take a bath and while in the tub notices hairs and dirt at eye level. She screams in disgust and we pack up and ask for a different room. We've been there an hour. Room # 3: A little nicer and cleaner than last room. 3rd Fireplace doesn't work. Next morning have breakfast which is not bad. Talk to a few other travelers and no one's fireplaces are working. Ask desk about this and was told that "oh yeah the rooms are being renovated", but somehow we get charged a premium for this?! Day 3: we head out for the day and come back to find that they screwed up our reservation and had us registered for 2 nights, not 3. While we were out they gave strangers keys to our room and this couple went up to find all our stuff there. Luckily they quickly left but this made us feel very uncomfortable. I had to show the Travelocity booking on my phone to the clerk to get this sorted. Clerk had owner on phone at the time, but owner never reached out to us to apologize for this major breach of trust! Last Straw: Here we are months after that stay and I now have the property emailing and phoning me for my credit card info, because they said my card didn't go through and I owe them for the stay. I BOOKED THROUGH TRAVELOCITY AND IT WAS PAID FOR MONTHS AGO!!!!!!! read more

Ok hotel. Too expensive for what it is. Large, but dated rooms. Mediocre breakfast-greasy sausages and fake eggs.

Where do I start? Air conditioning doesn't work, woke up a number of times sweating! Refrigerator must be tied to the air conditioning, turned it up full blast and items in fridge are barely cold. In any other refrigerator, things would be icing over if it were turned up that high! I brought it to the attention of the front desk, nothing was done about it! They blame Covid for the lack of room cleaning daily, but can't be courteous enough to put ample toiletries and coffee in the room to last your stay! Give this one a big fat ZERO! Customer service is a lost art these days! read more

Disappointed.... hotel was outdated and our room smelled like urine near the bathroom area. The "jacuzzi" tub did not work the outlet under the faucet was hanging off and the air filter for the AC was filthy. Staff at front desk was very friendly but for the 300$ plus price im could have stayed in San Luis Obsipo at a more modern hotel. Would not recommend read more

I would say fair hotel, for a fair price centrally located to beach and restaurants... Nice, clear view of Morro Rock from the roof. Breakfast is decent enough for those looking to stay on a budget and not spend money on eating out. Its quiet and quaint, staff is quiet and smiles and was acommodating when we asked for a room with a balcony. The beds are a bit soft but not uncomfortable. Free parking, free breakfast...if you're looking for more than spend more at Embarcadero, but Ascot is a fine place to stay. read more

It use to be a great hotel but is showing much wear and tear. The chairs need reupholstering, the tub has a big chip and the caulking looks like a five year old did it, the paint is chipping, door jams dirty, closet strong smell, sheets don't look very clean. For the price I expected much more. It really needs a major makeover. Staff is very nice read more

I absolutely loved this place!!!! The service was exceptional. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and curious! Our room was clean and gorgeous with a beautiful view. Oh, and the jacuzzi bathtub was the icing on the cake! There's a gorgeous view on the balcony on the 4th floor. You have to check it out. Breakfast was satisfying with waffles, eggs, sausage and pastries. I will definitely be coming back!!! Love love love!!!! read more

A huge shout out to the Ascot. We were going to Morro Bay for the car show. First they help me out when another hotel screwed me around and at the last moment The Ascot got me a room a great price. Next a week out of arrival I received a email about me canceling my room. I called & was told that let them look to see what happened. I was contacted by Jeremiah & he handle the mix up & owned the mistake being on their side. So the great price I was getting became a awesome price then instead of a King Room we were placed in a Tudor Suite. The room was perfect because the show was right next to the hotel. My wife could take her time and even watch the cruise & the show from the balcony. Now for the room, it was nice with a fireplace in the living room with a balcony and several chairs to look out at the rock and the bay. There was a small hallway with the sink & mirror, across from the sink was the door with the toilet & spa tub. Into the bedroom with a comfortable king bed, dresser & desk. There is a great view from the bedroom too. The only bad thing about the bed was the night stands. They had what you would think was a drawer but it was a shelf like for a keyboard. The breakfast was good but I was busy with the show so I really didn't get to much into it. Overall I would recommend the Ascot. read more

Loved our stay here! We passed through Morro Bay on our way to Santa Cruz. The decor was a bit tacky BUT this placed excelled where it really mattered. Excellent customer service, bed was super comfy, corner room offered great views and natural light with large windows, shower pressure was perfect, walking distance to the water fun for dinner and drinks and the breakfast downstairs was just what we needed for our trip up the 1. Thank you for a great stay Ascot! read more

Great place. Great view, roof top patio, clean rooms, comfy beds, coffee and tea all the time. Literally a 2 minute walk to waterfront, and surrounded by a bunch of cafes, shops, and a couple of bars. Fireplace and jet stream tubs. Very nice staff. Can't complain at all about anything. read more

We checked in about 4:30 pm yesterday . Upon entering our room we found painters who were touching up the white trim. We were not alerted that the painters would be in our suite.it was a suite. I worried that the paint would smell but it didn't .The painters seemed surprised to see us. I was disappointed in the dated decor, the couch had a dark burgundy flame design which I believe went out over 20 years ago. There was heavy dark drapery with a fabric canopy over the bed which I see as a dust catcher. The dated print wall paper was not appealing.-overall effect of the room was dated and dark. What was odd was the pictures on the wall, Impressionist but we are in beach community and no pictures of the ocean. I looked out the tiny living room window and saw cobwebs. There was bird poop on the balcony. What was most disappointing was we usually stay in Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express when traveling where breakfast is usually ready by 6:30 am . This was a way point for us and no breakfast was available until 7:30 am . I checked the lobby about 7 am hoping to find coffee with my hazel nut creamer. The lobby door was locked so no coffee before breakfast, EXCEPT ROOM WITH NO FLAVORING. The breakfast was very minimal, instant oatmeal--REALLY for over $200/night? . I didn't see any fresh fruit. We definitely will NOT be repeat customers. I think the owners/managers need to improve the breakfast, earlier hours for breakfast by 7am and update the decor. read more

I give this hotel a five star because it had the best combination of price, cleanliness, service and a breakfast thrown in. There was covered parking and it was close to the beach and Morro Bay shopping. I guess what I am saying is that the hotel is a good value. read more

Easy and courteous reservation. We arrived late and the girl at the registration desk was friendly, prompt, and helpful. Very clean lobby, room, and parking garage. Our room was a good size, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. We stayed for 3 night and it was our first time in Morro Bay. Breakfast was good, and there was always coffee and fresh fruit available in the lobby. The rooftop terrace was great to sit on and have a drink in the evening. Staff was helpful with directions and any questions we had of the area. Walking distance to shops and restaurants, and great views of Morro Rock. I had forgotten an item in the room. Upon confirmation we were given a website that would pick the item up and ship it. It took all of about 10 minutes between logging in and seeing that mailing labels were printed and shipment scheduled. I think the reviews regarding the decor and "dated" look are a little unfair. The wallpaper may not be everyones cup of tea. It had the "old english" feel to it. But then again, it is named the Ascot Inn. We loved the area and will definitely stay here when we come back. read more

Stayed in room 217..their "Suite". Room smells of mildew. Couch has huge rip in it. Bathroom door doesnt close from inside. Had to have someone close from outside. Sink has huge crack..as do toilet and bathtub. Could barely turn off water to show knob was so hard to turn. Ok hotel but not for 140 a night!!! read more

A cozy clean romantic hotel blocks from morrow rock. The staff (all of them) made every effort to make my stat enjoyable...they made sunset dinner reservations for my party and returned some suit jackets I left accidentally. I would highly recommend this hotel!! Colleen and the night desk clerk (blonde guy with long hair) were exceptional! read more

Loved this hotel. The staff was very friendly, and the room was great. Loved the fire place and the Jacuzzi tub. The breakfast each morning got us going. The location was excellent. We had high expectations for this hotel but it didn't meet them at all! I had tried in vain to reach the hotel by phone so I made our reservation online, asking for our AAA discount. When we arrived, I was told I didn't ask for the discount when I booked so could not have it. Then the clerk asked for my credit card to run the payment. I asked "You mean, it hasn't been charged yet?" She said it hadn't so I asked why she couldn't give us the AAA discount. She said it just wasn't possible! Does that make any sense? Sadly lacking in customer service!!! The room was cute but so outdated, the paper on the wall was torn in several spots and the air conditioner would not work because the light was flashing showing the filter hadn't been changed. When we asked one of the maids she was very nice and changed the filter for us. We got a movie to watch at the front desk but the video equipment in the rooms is so old, it's very hard to figure out how to even play the DVD and it had been scratched which made the picture keep flipping. They do not have cable. The hot water in the bathroom takes forever to get hot...my husband concluded they don't have hot water! Wouldn't recommend this hotel to friends and family! read more

The Inn is great but the staff changed my reservation from a reservation where I could cancel to a pre-paid reservation that I could not get my money back. I made the reservation in April for a date in October and they charged my card in July. A pre-paid reservation would have been charged immediately in April. But someone at the Inn changed my reservation and charged me in July. Every time I called them, the manager was not available or not at the property. I called many times. I would never book a hotel without a cancellation policy. So if you visit this hotel, book through a website like Booking.com where you definitely can have the cancellation option. I wonder if the hotel is losing money and need to make the reservations "no cancellation" because they need the money. Scary, right? Maybe book somewhere else. There are plenty of hotels in the area. read more

This is a place in need of much repair and attention. The location is good the view from west facing balcony is good. Breakfast is decent. The outside and lobby are at least pleasant to the eye, but there are several issues with the condition of the room we had. There was a 15" x 15" plus sized rip in the balcony screen door; the hot water faucet spun 180 degrees to shut off; the molding around the tub was cracked and peeling away from the tub; the bath mat was actually a bath towel ripped in half; the coffee pot had an on and off button, but the off didn't work...had to unplug to not cause a fire; there were 6 windows in the hall to our room, each with ripped cafe curtains through sun damage. read more

Absolutely beautiful rooms. The view in incredible. A perfect romantic setting between the view, the fireplace, and the Jacuzzi tub!

Can't say enough about the Ascot. It was the unofficial base for our wedding in Morro Bay. Innkeeper Randy and his staff took care of us in every way.The room and bed were very comfortable, the breakfast bar was way beyond what I've experienced at most other hotels, and we loved the rooftop deck (a good percentage of our wedding party howled at the moon until the sun came up!). We had an unexpected tragedy--my friend's wife passed away--and Randy could not have been kinder to my friend as well as the rest of the party. We will definitely be back. read more

Ascot inn has been one of the better places that me and my wife have stayed at. The bed was more than comfortable and the view overlooking the bay was amazing. The best part was the bathroom. I am 6' 2" and I could fit under the shower and the jacuzzi tub was more than accommodating. It is also a short walk down to the bay and a short walk to downtown for some cozy cafes :) read more

December 2020, I stayed 2 nights at this hotel. My experience was so so bad and absolutely expensive. When we arrived our room was ready at exactly 3:00 pm ( check in time) and the front desk agent was pleasant. We when you our room.. OMG... they put us in a room that had like a living/sitting room with no furniture (no couch, table, and chair). NOTHING!! Then you enter the restroom area... ok... then the bedroom, we had a broken king size bed!!! In addition, when I wanted to hang the clothes in the closet there is NO closet and I will repeat this NO closet. I thought there was like a hidden door somewhere on the walls to find the closet ... but nope....NO CLOSET!!! In my life I've never heard of a room not having a closet, ...wow.!! Due to COVID the front desk agent said you should have a basket to place you dirty towels, place the basket outside your door and we will replace them... well.. no basket!!! We when to the front desk and brought this to their attention and the girl that was pleasant to us have now turned her cheek and act like she did not know what we were talking about all of a sudden the worst service we ever got and to top it off she laughed when we told her about the broken bed. She had said due to Covid that the maintenance man, is not able to replace our bed. So we asked if we can get another room she said due on how we made our reservation we can't and that she said we are paying $50 more than the normal person. There was no other hotels near us that had availability so we have to stick it out. My suggestion to you is do not stay at this hotel the customer service was so bad after that nobody would even look at us in the face the room was not what the picture look like, they are deceiving heartless people at this hotel. They did not even work with us financially... no discount!! This hotel was expensive... I gave it one star because this site makes you put down a star but really they deserve no stars. Just be careful and do not stay at this hotel. Hope this helps you. read more

BAIT AND SWITCH ALERT! My wife and I recently booked a stay here via TripAdvisor. The advertised nightly rate on TripAdvisor was $209 / night. Imagine my surprise when, after returning home and glancing at the my receipt, they had charged me $209 on the FIRST NIGHT, but an inflated $259 / night all the other nights. These guys are shady and should be avoided. read more

I will up my stars slightly because the staff contacted me after reading a review I sent them. I'm hoping they address the issues I've mentioned, but I still stand by the fact it was 3 of the worst nights sleep, things didn't work, and our "relaxing" getaway was not what we'd hoped for. But hopefully it will be better for others in the future. Just avoid the Windsor Suite for now. read more

Absolutely adored the Ascot! Perfect location, GORGEOUS room, beautiful view, great 4th floor garden and we loved the fireplace in the room. And, honestly, I'm not sure what kind of air the Ascot has piped in to our room and into Morro Bay in general but my normally bickering-with-each-other-over-EVERYTHING three teenaged (14, 16 and 19) children were all sweetness, light and love with one another at the Ascot. A level of kindness and enjoyment I have rarely seen displayed between them so, to me, though the room may have been a bit pricey, it was worth every penny to experience such priceless parenting moments that, with three teens, may never come again.....so I'll be making sure to book more rooms at the Ascot in the future! I may have paid for a room in a hotel but the Ascot gave this mom so much more....memories of a lifetime. Thank you, Ascot! read more

Wonderful customer service! There was a hiccup with the room but Shelby, the amazing hotel manager, made it right. Beautiful rooftop deck.

What an experience! My girlfriend and myself were devastated at the condition of the original Inn I booked, Then my brother mentioned let's check out the Ascot. No reservations and we were not expecting much. The clerk at the front desk was so friendly and offered to show us three rooms which were available. I have never had that presented to me before! The 1st room was very nice & clean, large and comfortable with a fireplace and a Jacuzzi tub. We did not need to see anything else. The ambiance and customer service was outstanding! The included breakfast was another plus. With our mini vacation rescued we were free to enjoy the wonderful area of Morro Bay, Hearst Castle and all of the wonderful towns around there. All of the staff was professional and helpful. I was very impressed with the total experience and will definitely stay here next time we visit Morro Bay. read more

Had my credit card information compromised after booking through their website. Contacted the manager afterwards about it and didn't even have the professional courtesy to reply after a week. Very disappointing that the experience ruined an otherwise nice weekend in Morro Bay. Rooms are rather dated and the side panel of the bathtub was broken. Normally not things I'd have issue with, but if you're letting people's information be stolen, maybe you should put some of those pilfered funds toward updating your property. read more

Good place to stay location is perfect, the hotel has a parking garage that I was excited with, the rooms are dated lets be honest, the first room we were given room 305 was smelly and run down we refused to stay in it and made them change our room the second room was nice smelled clean ect room 302 it was large but dated, the fireplaces as advertised do not work in any room they have to be replaced because of code so if you plan to stay in a room with a fire place forget it here, the staff was accommodating for some simple requests, The morning breakfast was good the woman in charge of the breakfast was really cool and very very friendly we liked her a lot she did her absolute best to accommodate everyone.... I'd like to see some major room remodels and up dating however I would stay in room 302 again because it had a great view of the rock and the surrounding areas I am just not impressed with the outdated decor for the price you pay it could be better. read more

The staff at Ascot Inn are the best. Before even arriving for my reservation I made a huge mistake in which I booked the room for the wrong month. The room is for a friends wedding and when I realized I made the mistake I went online and couldn't find a room for the date that I needed. After contacting the staff at Ascot Inn they fixed everything within an hour and had me booked for the proper dates. I had already paid in advance so technically they could have done nothing and kept my money. Thank you for your professional service and generosity! read more

Ascot Inn has long been known as one of the better motels in Morro Bay. It's still a good place to stay, but the on my last visit the property definitely showed signs of getting a little long in the tooth. Among other things, the carpet could have done with a thorough cleaning, the bathroom door and slider to the balcony didn't work right, the bed had a noticeable sag in the middle, and the faux flowers needed a good dusting..... The continental breakfast was still very good, and the service continues to be outstanding. The manager told me that the place is due for a major renovation soon, and I'm looking forward to it. I'd love to be able to give the Ascot 5 stars again. read more

More positives than negatives. The front desk staff was very nice and welcoming. The room was quite large, and very clean. The breakfast is basic, but adequate. Coffee was very good! Only problem I had was that the air conditioner was iffy, the mattress was uncomfortable, and if you moved around, the whole bed would shake. I am a light sleeper so that was problematic. I could deal with all that, but the only problem I had was the lack of hot water. If you are the second person to shower, you are out of luck lol! read more

The Ascot has a charming vintage feel. I stayed for five days and enjoyed the quiet and spacious room with rose patterned wallpaper, the comfortable canopied bed and the gas fireplace. Breakfast was decent, (bagels and other baked goods, eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal, juice, tea and coffee). You can get a spectacular view of the bay from the hotel terrace on the fourth floor. The room amenities included a refrigerator, an ironing set-up, hair dryer, full length mirror, TV, and DVD player. The hotel has films for loan. The desk staff made helpful suggestions about activities in Morro Bay. They were really nice people and accommodating in general. Housekeeping was very good, though I would recommend that the hotel arrange for cleaning the edges of the inside window screens. In addition, the elevator periodically made thudding noises/ harsh landings. The vintage aspect showed itself in worn furniture, older carpet and a spot of rust on the tub faucet, which I did not mind. However, I found the room cleaner/deodorizer nauseating. The desk manager was quick to make a note to housekeeping that proved somewhat effective. The nice big window helped air out the room. I plan to stay at the Ascot in the future due to the quiet atmosphere, the price, the size of the room, the location (the bay is only a couple of blocks away) and last, but not least, the friendly staff: Sean, Beth, Jeremiah, and others. read more

Amazing guest service. I wish I would've remembered the front desk personnel and their names. First they let us check in early. Which was great, especially traveling with an 8 month old. Secondly, upon finding out that we had been given an ADA room, we got a FREE upgrade. Mind you, we didn't complain about this. We were just asked if we had booked one for a reason. My response was no, but that it was ok. The gentlemen said, well lets give you guys an upgrade. Wow!! A little while later in the evening, I needed to ask them where the closet grocery store was and while striking up a conversation, we were given a free bottle of wine, compliments of the hotel. Room was clean, great view, and warm upon entering. The only negative would be that I wish the flame in the fireplace was bigger. Not so much for the warmth, but for the vibe. Needless to say. I know this isn't going to happen every time or maybe even again, but talk about a first impression. We will be staying again. Thanks Ascot Inn read more
