The Ascot Inn isn't quite what I would consider a luxury hotel, as it labels itself. It's a fine location with good amenities, but I wouldn't consider it a luxury hotel. We stayed for two nights in the "Tudor Suite," which is presumably the nicest room they have. It's on the third floor in the corner, away from the elevator, with a nice view from the bedroom and the deck. There was a small living room with a nice fireplace and a sofa. The in-room refrigerator was larger than most hotel refrigerators. The bedroom was large, with a tall, vaulted ceiling above the bed. Ooh, la la. The bathroom was adequate, with a sink outside of the toilet and shower room. The pocket door that closed off the toilet was awkward and clumsy. I didn't try the jacuzzi, but the shower was sub-par for luxury hotel standards. The hotel's best feature is its proximity to the water; it's only two blocks away. Location, location, location! The breakfast was alright--eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and waffles, with the usual continental stuff. Adequate, but not up to luxury hotel standards. We enjoyed the rooftop terrace, but there wasn't any shade--no umbrellas or sunshades. That would have been nice, as it was very sunny and rather warm. Technology and decor seemed to be this hotel's weakest points. The TV above our fireplace was accompanied by an unsightly array of cables and cords that made it look like it was never fully assembled. The decor is very dated, from the early '90s, with floral wallpaper, frilly curtains, and dated carpet. It's time for a remodel. Definitely not up to luxury hotel standards. In all, our stay was adequate, but not what I would consider luxurious. Hopefully the Ascot Inn can make some improvements in their weaker areas. read more

I really hate to give an independent establishment a bad rating but I was VERY dissatisfied by a the room and service. Here is my assessment for a recent stay in December.. PARKING- parking garage closed, but we found parking up front fairly easily. I don't believe it was a busy weekend though. FOOD- breakfast closed for remodel, coffee available LOCATION- walking distance to many restaurants. This is certainly a plus, but most inns/ hotels in Morro Bay are in the same vicinity so most of them are walking distance to restaurants. ROOM- This is where the dissatisfaction comes in. Heater was not working and the drain in bathtub was clogged (not by us!). "Nothing I can do about it!" was the front desk worker's response If I'm going to pay for a room, I at least expect a warm and decent place to shower and sleep! Terrible service. I do not recommend this place. I should have read the reviews before staying here. It is not worth the price. The room we stayed in, the small couch had holes, the mattress was awful. The caulking around the tub as falling off. The bathroom door doesn't close unless we pull it up to close it because one hinge is loose. The air/heating unit doesn't work very well. When I looked out the window all I saw a small house that is in disrepair and the roof of the hotel next to here with bird shit all over it! Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere! read more

We had a very unpleasant experience with Ascot suites. First of, the staff were very rude. We asked for extra towels and they made it seem like they didn't want to provide us with extra towels. Secondly, the AC was not working. When we told the staff that it was not working, they said that it wasn't working for "few months." We would have appreciated a heads up prior to checking in that it wasn't working. OR just not have customers book that room at all. Lastly and the WORST of all... the room that we have had a horrible smell. The smell was everywhere but I wanted to point out specifically the mattress smell. The mattress had a strong and unpleasant smell. We asked for them to change the sheets, but nope they just gave us extra sheets for us to change ourselves. And no, the smell did not go away. The hotel was generally dirty. We usually get travel blues after a trip, but in our experience, we couldn't wait to get out of the place. Never coming back. read more

Well don't plan on getting what you pay for. Paid for a room with a fireplace. It looks nice but wouldn't turn on. When my husband went and told them he was told that our room had a fireplace "just for show". Despite the switch to turn it on and the warning that it may get hot. Okay... never again. Also, hey, no heat, but they'll bring me a space heater. Pretty sure that's not up to code for a hotel. But I'll address that with the city on Monday. read more

I had a pretty great experience at this Inn. It's convenient, service was great, amenities were good and I overall had a great time. Next time I am in the area, this would be my first choice. Breakfast buffet was unexpected and helpful, and the wifi was not extra. Only negatives are I think it was marginally pricey considering the overall quality of the rooms in terms of the condition of the furniture, the bedding and there was some ants in the bathroom. However, I think considering the positives -- I would still prefer this Inn over others. read more

I am writing in hope that the owner Kiley W. gets this message. I booked this hotel from Friday June 29 to Sunday July 1, 2018 (room 212) for my mom as we camped at the local state park First night my mom and aunt stayed, there was a group upstairs who were running around, stomping, and talking loudly around 3am. Upon notifying the front desk they received a cold "we will note it." There was no apology or offer to move rooms. Next day my mom asked for a towel from someone who also worked at the front desk whom she ran into just outside her room. This lady proceeded into my mom's room to count the number of towels questioning the number of people staying in the room very rudely. Given this room sleeps four there were only One complete set of towels and two bath towels. My mom simply wanted and extra towel. The room was only for my mom and aunt. Check your cameras. Upon check out the the front receptionist was again very rude to my mom. We understand that the receptionist was working on the computer or on the phone, but a simple gesture of acknowledgement that she would be right with her wasn't even shown. No eye contact, smile, hand gesture, just rudely ignored her till she was ready, and it seemed like she was in no rush either to help. No one else was in line either. My mom is 80 years old and has never felt so small and belittled in a hotel experience. She is a guest at your hotel and instead felt unwelcome. Upon calling Hotels.com to file a complaint, the Hotels.com customer service representative called the hotel to inquire about my mom's experience. The person from the hotel flat out denied everything that happened and noted there was never a complaint noted about loud guests. So now my mom's a liar. Unreal. Hopefully you can use this experience to retrain your staff on customer service. From the other negative reviews my mom is not the only one that has had this type of experience at your hotel. Second stay here. In general I like the place. I want to commend the front staff. Ian Thompson at desk and the woman who does the breakfast. Both of them do a great job. I have to say that some of the rooms have become a bit rundown. I was first placed in #215. Room felt a little old, not totally clean, dusty, fabric worn and ripped on chairs, furniture stained. We ended up Being moved as AC was not working properly. New room was similar but a bit cleaner feel. I think the breakfast is first rate and I like the wine tasting each night. 4th fl balcony and weight room nice. Parking is pretty good. Quiet. Great location. Bed was adequate but pillows uncomfortable as was mattress. Bath adequate. Many motels/hotels in Morro Bay are a bit dated. This one is actually better than many that I have stayed at and price was fair. I just recommend to owner that place is starting to show its age and could use some updating. read more

Ok here is what i can tell you about this place. I have stayed here twice and both times were fine, but i am a local and i have gathered some useful information. Try as they might, the desk staff is tragically understaffed. As friendly as they are, it is ultimately a crap shoot because IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG THE MANAGEMENT HAS TO DEAL WITH ANY AND ALL CREDIT REFUNDS AND THEY ARE TERRIBLE! In short, staff on site is very accommodating and the rooms are spacious. The complimentary breakfast is a nice touch and the "wine tasting" is more of a "wine drinking" situation, which i must say is also a nice touch. Hope that you dont encounter an issue that you feel requires some discounted price or refunding of any monies whatsoever due to the borderline abusive runaround from off site upper management, they WILL NOT be helpful. read more

A few years ago we stayed at this property and had a wonderful stay. Apparently things have drastically changed and I wish I had read the previous reviews. Our stay on September 24 was very disappointing and a nightmare. We arrived in town around noon and stopped by to check if we could check in early since we would be at my cousin's Celebration of Life and wouldn't be back until evening. We were told there would be a $25 early check in fee, We travel quite a bit and usually either it's available to occupy or it isn't. Since my brother lives locally, We decided to skip early check in. We returned to the hotel at 9PM to check in. The parking garage was under construction so the few spaces in front were already taken and we had to park across the street and worry about possible break-ins. When I washed my face and brushed my teeth, the sink filled up and wouldn't drain. We called the front desk and all they offered was to bring us a plunger. We tried to clear the sink but instead black sludge came out. The stench was terrible. We called the front desk again and received no help. We called the after hours emergency number after 11 (since they don't answer earlier) and was told she was not a plumber and there was nothing they could do but possible give us a discount. We were in the Tudor Suite which is a bedroom, shared vanity and shower and toilet and a den with a love seat sofa bed. There was no door between the bathroom area and den and so there was the gross smell all night. The sofa bed was so uncomfortable that you could feel the springs with a marshmallow pillow that gave me a stiff neck. In the morning, I had to wash my face and brush my teeth using the tub faucet. We received a $100 discount. This was unacceptable for accommodations that we were paying $346 for this disaster. VERY DISAPPOINTING and we won't be back. We have also reported them to the various city authorities. SAVE YOURSELF and book elsewhere. read more

Came here to spend a quick 4th of July weekend, and my gf was excited to stay here because of the decor and feel. When we checked in the staff were super nice and offered us some wine. Once we got into our room however we noticed a pretty weird smell, but opened the windows and figured it would just air out. We then started to notice other things such as: - the broken fireplace (we were reassured ours was working before we went up). - really dirty floors that make your feet go black after waking to the bathroom. - the TV was MUCH smaller than the one they used in images when we booked. - a brown/red stain on the sheets of our bed along with some hair. - the curtains don't have the inner white sheet like any other hotels do so your choices are either compete blackout or no privacy. - the jacuzzi tub was much smaller in person and had some weird stains near the drain. We figured we would make the most of it, and spent the day walking around town, and came back to watch fireworks from the roof patio area with some drinks. The patio area isn't anything special, but it was nice to watch the fireworks and the occasional rat that was going through the garbage can near the elevator. We paid nearly $300 for 1 night here, and thought maybe it was a high price due to the 4th of July weekend but we checked other hotels for the weekend and it was on the higher side!! While we loved Morro Bay and plan to return, we will definitely be staying at another another hotel or at least camping somewhere. read more

And then later, had the pleasure of meeting Audrey. But the most helpful and accommodating individual (one who went "above and beyond" what was being asked of her), was a wonderful individual by the name of Shara. I waffled between a two and three star review. The staff is very nice. The facility is in a GREAT location. And the price is reasonable, at least in January. It's also a clean hotel. But it's VERY dated and, as you can see by the pictures, the couch cushions are ripped, the shower handle is broken, the lamp shade is ripped, and the shower curtain is too short and inexplicably has gaps in it. Makes for drafty showers. Can't say I'd recommend this place, but it depends on why you're coming and how long you're staying. We were seeing a friend and needed a place to crash. We made a reservation just before they closed the front desk and realized we accidentally booked our reservation for the wrong night, one day too early. We called right back but got no answer. When we spoke with them the next morning they were not understanding at all. They would not refund or partially refund our money for an honest mistake. Not good customer service at all. I went here for the weekend with some friends who have visited this hotel for years. I was sorely disappointed. The A/C was broken and the front desk did not tell us. We had to find out when we got to our room and discovered fans in the room. There was no service individual to fix the AC and the front desk was unable to assist in any compensation, a switch in rooms, nothing. The front desk would not provide additional coffee or TP for the room because they were too busy. Follow up from the manager was unsatisfactory. They have bed bugs. We stayed there 11/13/21. By the time we got home on Sunday, my husband was getting bug bite bumps on his body. At first we thought it was mosquitos. By Monday, he had 40 bits on his body. Mostly on his hand. According to the medical websites, he has textbook bed bug patterned bites. We contacted the hotel. They did an investigation of their own and determined that the do not have bed bugs. Surprise! Apparently their housekeeping staff are more skilled at finding the elusive bed bug than a professional. They refused my offer to send photos of my husbands bites. Not once did I mention wanting a refund (which I do). I wanted to see how they would handle the situation. I am appalled at their behavior over this. Their whole hotel could be come infected. The place is a dump. Do not believe the photos on the Internet. They must be over 10 years old. Our room was dirty and shabby. Shredded curtains, 2 cloth lounge chairs with indistinguishable fabric pattern because they were so dingy, dings and chips on all the furniture. I could go on. First of all this place has changed ownership, they no longer have quaint touches like wine tasting in the evening. The rooms are very comfortable but look like your grandmas house in 1982. Love the fireplaces and patio for coffee in morning! ( the coffee here isn't very good, so bring your own for the coffee pot) the cups are really little also maybe 8 Oz. The morning lady is way too proper and needs to relax and smile a bit more. The breakfast is your basic toast and muffins but you can make a waffle. Be sure to wait for fresh eggs, the sausage tasted good but was cooked in microwave. They also have juices and packaged oatmeal and yogurt. Maybe I'm a little but picky but I love good coffee that smells fantastic and can be drunken without cream or sugar. This could easily be fixed. I recommend the coffee bean rainforest blend! So I had to change my review up a star because we want to go for a hike and they said we can have a late check out, now we will be able to shower before our 5 hour drive home. Bring back some of the cuteness this hotel had with lil amenities, we do love to stay here! Also it shouldn't be a two night min stay on a Saturday. read more

After over 4 years we took off on a trip to Morrow Bay. Ascot Suites ratings are VERY misleading. As a contractor, I found illegal wiring and mold issues in our room and the adjoining room our friends booked. The wiring for the both new AC units were not inspected by the city of Morrow Bay who I will be calling. Their sofa had towels sewn onto them to cover the tears in the coverings. Tissue paper dispensers were rusted. We found feces smeared on the wall under the toilet paper holder and the room had heavy dust everywhere. In door air quality needs to be checked. We were all very disgusted with the conditions and upkeep. With Covid practices in place, this hotel is ignoring them. Enter with caution and at your own risk. This place is a death trap. read more

Our Pre-Registration for a 4 day stay during Christmas was a disaster. Requested room 210 & was accommodated. When we arrived on 12/22 & entered room, fireplace was NOT working & a distinctive masking smell filled room. (We had stayed in same room in July with no issues & room functional). Under bed was a white substance which we ASSUMED was carpeted fresh or dust build up. Had to open window & kept open. Had to sit by window & developed breathing issues. We unpacked & I told my husband had to leave room because couldn't stand smell. We left for 3 hours (hoping airing out room would help) & return I started having breathing problems again. My husband wanted to just go to sleep & not make a fuss. When I played down in bed & looked up I noticed BLACK MOLD on ceiling under drapery. I showed my husband. He immediately called front desk & maintenance guy moved us to room 206. We had to repack & unpack again. When we get to this NEW room, we find it very dusty, used soap in tub & hair from prior tenant. Calling desk again & maintenance guy comes up..removed soap & hair & sprayed disinfectant & left. I did not start feeling better till the 3rd day. We asked for a reduced rate because of problems & received NO RESPONSE. When they switch our rooms, they billed our credit card instead of our debt card. When I called to get it straightened out, they had no problem billing my debt card right away & we still waiting on credit on our Credit Card of over $700.00. Asked for a receipt & GOT NO RESPONSE except a generic text. The lady that cleaned our floor spoke no engish. Witnessed front desk lady making fun of tenant having issues with the waffle machine. This trip WAS a nightmare & WE nor my family will EVER RETURN TO THIS UNHEALTHY Overpriced Hotel. 12/31 Happy New Years to US....just woke up to another debt of $539.xx going through my bank account. Let's see almost $1300 out of checking account & over $700 out of my Credit Card. Got to love the management at this place! So this place does not disclose everything. I booked 3 rooms with 2 queen beds each and got what look like double beds but were told after they are European Queens, which do not fit 2 grown adults on. We were also placed in 2 rooms that are under renovation and were never told about. The floors were dirty and you could feel the grit under your shoes. The curtains were not tailored and hung a good 3ft onto the floor. 1 room had missing tiles from the fireplace and a screen missing from the window. We had 2 young children with us that could have fallen out of the window or hurt themselves on the broken fireplace. We were in the rooms for maybe 10 minutes and left. The nice front desk girl that checked us in let us know we were in the time frame to be refunded yet I have yet to see a refund. I've tried to call and speak with a manager which apparently there is only 1 of. They relayed a message to the person on the phone that they won't refund me but won't give a reason nor even return my call. The decor they have going is cute and could be nice but they should never have placed us in unfinished rooms. They were also "sold out" so they couldn't move us to different rooms with normal queens. We ended up having to book somewhere else as we were on a long road trip and exhausted. I'm still hoping management will get back to me and refund my stay, but I feel it's unlikely. read more

Sweetest Boutique hotel around Morro Bay! The staff morning noon or night is welcoming and jumps to help & answer questions. Sean, the manager bent over backwards, always right there to please customers. What a friendly place to visits and obviously work. The free breakfast was sweetly set up with make your own waffles, to a coffee bar, cereals, pastries, juices, eggs, sausage and biscuits n gravy. Where else can you get that? Rooms are clean with fabulous views of the Rock with the sounds of seals and seagulls. *Only thing I recommend highly is updating the 80/90's decor. First they changed their name, but not the sign in front of the motel - so I had to run in and confirm it was the same place to be sure. This place is really run down. The rooms are outdated and need a redo and thorough cleaning. The decor is very old. The couch was all ripped, yellowed, and quite disgusting. The bed was lumpy, clearly hadn't been replaced in any reasonable timeframe. The bathroom door was a sliding door that was off the hinge, and had no door handle. You had to squeeze your fingers between the wall and the door to try and close it. The shower had a window to the bedroom, with a curtain so you can shut it - very odd, who needs a window in the shower to the bedroom? The wallpaper was peeling off. I wouldn't go back. read more

House cleaning knocked on our door three times on the morning of checkout (within a two hour span), while we had the do not disturb sign up. A/C thermostat in the room would not turn the air conditioner on. The chairs in the room had stains and rips. The end of the blow dryer was broken. Some of the drywall was broken on a corner. The fireplace worked, which was nice and the morning breakfast seemed decent, although there were not enough eggs available when we went to get breakfast. Overall, for the price and location it wasn't a horrible stay. We found Ascot Suites on hotels.com for a mini getaway. This was a great find. The hotel is in walking distance from the board walk of Morro Bay. The hotel has a romantic European country vibe. The rooms are clean and very cozy. The room we stayed in had a fireplace that did a great job warming up the room. The staff is very nice and gave great customer service. If you are supposedly charging that much for rooms, the hotel is Far behind on redoing the old beat up run down rooms with ants in the bathroom, nasty bathroom grouts, old mattresses, old torn carpets, barely working frig. Only decent thing was the breakfast. We stayed here with other family members who had their own rooms, we all agreed to checkout early before our date due to the nasty rooms.
