Don't know where to start, if I could give zero stars I would! I'm from Alaska but visiting with my children. We wanted to sing karaoke. Showed up early and a few of our party sang a song. After 1 1/2 hours our entire party of 9 showed up. My daughter had a song entered with her cousin and when they were called to sing the DJ refused to play the song because my daughter had already sung a song. We literally had just watched people sing 3 songs in a row. We complained to the owner and bouncer but said they agreed we should be able to sing but had no control over DJ. This review is for the karaoke bar, not the restaurant. What earns this location 3 stars is its location and how popular it is. It's out of the downtown get shot/stabbed zone and this place is PACKED on the weekend with an amazing crossmix of age/race/gender. There was very much of a friendly "we are the world" vibe going on here. As for the drinks... meh they're average. They don't have any good beers and if you have any aspirations of an unusual quality cocktail- forget it. But the prices are reasonable- so whatever. The food the people in my party order looked not great and took about 45 minutes to arrive. The seating we was so old it collapsed to the floor and smelled like vomit. The karaoke system was ancient. The bathroom provided no privacy and had only one functional toilet. To ensure a good evening bring friends and definitely carpool because parking is a problem after 10:30. So it a nutshell, the place itself it's a shithole. It's the people that makes it EPIC. I grew up in Alaska and my fondest memories were the lightly seasoned, juicy/crispy wings and Mongolian beef. Faye, the owner is extremely friendly, smiles and makes you feel welcome. While the ambiance and interior is dated and old, I never had an issue eating here over the many years and my visits back to anchorage. I came here around 10pm one night. I heard they served food late, so I decided to see if their kitchen was open and it was! There was a group of young women singing karaoke in their seating room and one or two people at the bar, so it was a pretty quiet night. It was really nice because the songs were from the 80s to mid 2000s and they brought the nostalgia feeling. My Dad and his friends from work would come here to celebrate different events, so I had been here a few times before. Anyway, I ordered shrimp chow mein from their menu. It was pretty delicious, and it came with a generous amount of shrimp. Asia Garden's food is made fresh and doesn't taste as Americanized as most Chinese restaurants. Problem spot in Anchorage the bar likes to over charge .... Check your receipts the have a bad habit of over charging or charging for food items you never ordered; especially if you have had a few to many. Something this reviewer had experienced more then once here while doing karaoke. They have been know to tell customers whom have had a few their card where declined and demand a different card to bill while at the same time charging different charges to both cards and when called out they claim the customer was There twice in the same day to avoid the charge back. This place has been around forever and it shows. A little off the beaten path this place is nowhere near downtown and I think that adds to its appeal. During the early evenings I believe this is a full service restaurant (minus the karaoke). Most of my experiences here have been during the nighttime on Friday and Saturday nights. I would describe it as a divey free karaoke restaurant with full bar. Some people come really dressed up, some people come in sweats. There are many dance breaks throughout the night and a dance floor front and center. Once your ID is checked at the entrance it is first come first serve, open seating. The chicken wings and chicken fried rice are staples here and they come out fast! They have a few fancy drink offerings (drinks with fire, fancy glassware etc). Bathrooms are small and worn. If you have to sit on a bench instead of a chair or stool you can feel yourself sink. Everything is dated. If you've had enough drinks and you're enjoying karaoke you probably won't notice or care. The people watching is good here. You will find folks from every race, religion, and background here having a good time. The family who owns this place is friendly and works hard. During our most recent visit my spouse received a beer that was foamy and flat. He let our waitress know and she was understanding and did much better with this 2nd beer. We appreciated that. Easily the strangest restaurant I've ever been to. It is in desperate need of some redecorating. I ordered a hot and sour soup to go. It had some mystery meat in it which looked brownish/purplish and it also had tomatoes. Both of which I've never seen in a hot and sour soup before. Took all the meat out and it was okay. I had to add soy sauce, chili garlic paste, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to make it taste good enough to eat though. It wasn't awful but I definitely wouldn't call it a hot and sour soup. read more

I've been living in anchorage for almost two decades and I've only came to Asian gardens a handful of times to have drinks and sing kareoke with friends and family. One night I was starving and it was late and still open for food I tried it and I loved it. I ate with a group of 5 every single person thought the food was amazing even the picky eaters! Asia Gardens is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Anchorage. The owner is always there for quality control. The barbecue pork is excellent and so is the egg foo yong and the chow mein and the barbecued pork and the almond breaded chicken and many other things on the menu. So I called the restaurant where I was told that I never ordered any drinks and that they don't see it on my order and then they said I was refunded for my drinks and then they said I was never charged for my drinks.... It's been a long time since I've been spoken too so rudely... I told told her that I was looking at my order and I could see where I was charged and paid for three drinks it's not a big deal it's just drinks right... When the food came out, the fried rice, egg foo young and sweet & sour pork was on a small metal plate and she gave us 2 small portions of white rice. The food prices were pretty expensive $19 for a small ridiculous amount of food! Come on Asia Garden STOP being CHEAP with your portions!!! No wonder why your restaurant is NOT busy!!! This restaurant had fantastic service and food. The owner was cold and deceitful, the cocktails she made tasted like water and her attitude towards us was as if were as if we were rats in the New York subway system. My husband and I spend well over $200 on dinner and had fun singing one song of karaoke before leaving. I do not recommend this place because I believe the own is dishonest and uses the restaurant side of the business to hide crime. Not once, could she look me in the eye or act anything but shifty and distrustful, even after we tipped our waitresses gratefully and had a good time. I do enjoy the gracious women on the dining room side. Unfortunately, I do not plan to return because I do not respect or desire to put my money towards an owner that is clearly doing dirty business at the expense of others. I am purposely being vague- go visit the restaurant and then interact with the owner on the dance floor and you won't want to put your hard earned money in her pocket. Instead of calling a cab or Uber she carried the child out to the woman's car, and helped the woman walk to her car because she was too drunk to do it alone. This review is only for the bar side and not the restaurant but damn! This place is FUN. I've heard about Asia Garden for years but I got my karaoke fix at the Shed before it closed so I didn't visit until recently. First off the place is huge. You walk in, there's a lounge area with a long winding bar and you turn the corner and there it is: a dance floor and KJ. Everyone gets in on the singing, even the bouncer. Drinks are cheap and they party well into the night. There are definitely some regulars you don't want to annoy but if you want to dance and sing and be merry come to Asia Garden on a weekend. I always envisioned a Chinese restaurant with a corner where people would sing but the dining room is completely separate. This might just be the best bar in Anchorage and the best part is it isn't downtown. read more
