Food arrived and it was prepared in such a way that it is a giant bowl of soup. Even with the extra rice. Not what I wanted nor was expecting. I ordered blackened pepper beef (or should I say soup) which tasted awful. Pleasantly surprised. The staff members were not Asian, but I was pleased to find out they knew what they were talking about and the food was not very Americanized. Our party ordered several dishes. Sine were great, some were alright, but overall a great dining experience. Enough seating, there were two rooms and a bar, so we could actually converse on a Saturday night. Tiger Cry: This might be unfair, but compared to Báan Esaan (Rest In Peace!), It was not the best. But it was really good. Papaya Salad: Again, nowhere near the greatness Báan Esaan was, but still very good. Had it with marinated bed, which was cooked differently than the Tiger Cry, take note. Seafood Hot & Sour Soup: Slightly spicy, but wonderfully flavored seafood soup. They added some noodles for us, making it perfect. There actually was a pretty portion of seafood in there. The pieces of shrimp, catfish, mussels, and squid sucked up that soup, making them succulent morsels of delish. Mushrooms accented nicely. Always good for soup flavor holding. Curry Fried Rice (Combination): I expected this to be part standard, but they added some unique Thai spices that made this exceptional! One might think fried rice is easy to do, but it is not. It might be easy to stir fry some mediocre fried rice, but great fried rice is very difficult. They got it right here! Pla Jian: Deep fried whole fish topped with minced pork, mushrooms, ginger, we chose the Whole Red Snapper. Some of us felt it was overcooked, but I personally thought it was great. After all, we all like our food cooked differently. It was extra crispy; dipped in the accompanying sauce was great. In fact, that sauce was delicious on its own with rice. The market price was almost $40, so a little high. We also had Thai Teas and Iced Teas. Thai Teas seemed possibly store bought. Will need to reassess next time. read more

- VEGAN OPTIONS UPON REQUEST - I've been coming to Asia Kitchen since I was a baby and recently I went vegan and I haven't been to Asain Kitchen since going vegan. The other day while near the restaurant I decided to see if the Tom Kha was vegan and sadly it isn't BUT the staff was so sweet there that they talked to the cook and actually veganized the Tom Kha with vegetable broth instead of the chicken broth. This is one of my favorite places for lunch near my office. It used to be my fail-safe place for a quick lunch, as long as you ordered from their lunch menu. Since it's become more popular, it seems that their super quickness is a little more hit-or-miss, but it's still delicious food. Before I fell in love with the shrimp pad woon sen, I used to eat the sweet and sour pork. It was good and pretty standard, and filling. The lunch specials also come with a glass of iced tea and a spring roll, so it turns out to be a pretty good deal. I am absolutely in love with their shrimp pad woon sen. A heaping plate of shrimp, broccoli, mushrooms, sprouts, and glass noodles (glass noodles are made from beans instead of wheat, so you're not laden with pasta-sleepiness after you inadvertently eat the whole thing). Along with that comes the Thai condiment tray, and I take great delight in piling on crushed peanuts and chili sauce all over my meal. It's a great day when I get to go to Asia Kitchen. read more

"Have you had Thai hot here?" A simple question that could have saved me a bunch of pain. I sit here at my keyboard, thoughtfully penning my review as I munch on my Som Tam, and lamenting the errors of my conversation with the order taker. "Yes, I'm familiar with the cooking style. Please prepare it Thai hot." What I think I she heard me say was: "Did you hear me b**ch? I said make my innards burn!" Also next to me, my keyboard, and my som tam is a towel. That towel will now have to be washed as it is now DRIPPING WITH MY SWEAT. I am afraid to go to the restroom for fear I've touched one of those peppers and will self inflict burning known by few people outside of Tommy Lee. All jokes aside, though, folks... this is good frickin' Thai food. The person who took my order was friendly and helpful (and even warned me about what I was getting into). My pad woonsen, no spice, veggies, add steamed tofu was a delight and the to go package was stuffed to the brim. The som tam (paypaya salad for the uninitiated) was hotter than the sweet devil's flames but sported a perfect consistency and delicious flavor. Birthday lunch for my mom with family, and Asia Kitchen is still a "5-Star" star in my book. We celebrate a number of occasions here and are always at the front door at 11:00 on the dot to get our favorite round table that fits the seven of us just right. Our visit always start out with a dozen and a half spring rolls - fried crispy and piping hot when they hit the table. Pair these with the orange sauce at the table and we're talking something delightful. The sauce works great with the slices of cucumber too. Sweet goodness! We all have our specific menu items that we order. Mine is usually one of two dishes - chicken himmapan or the Gaeng Jued soup. This time though I went for the Pad Woonsen (glass noodles, stir fried with bean sprouts, green onions, egg, black mushrooms, broccoli and carrots, with chicken). Just the right amount of saltiness in the dish mixed with the incredible black mushrooms, and broccoli/carrots that still have a crunch to them, as well as chicken (which I love), made me say "I'm definitely going to have this again!". My family members all loved their dishes. My daughter was going out immediately after the get-together and I gratefully took her Pad Woonsen that she had ordered. I'm still a good dad, right? Ha! All you food lovers out there understand. Got to give a big compliment to our waiter, Joseph, who was very personable and made us feel very welcome. He even remembered some of the dishes my family and I normally order! That really blew us away and meant a lot to us. He must serve countless people in between the times me and my family come in and he has the memory to do that. He's perfect for the job. Our server, Thorn, did an amazing job, very quick and efficient service while also providing suggestions on menu items my husband and I had questions about. The pad thai was seriously delicious and so was the coconut shrimp with peanut sauce, some of the best peanut sauce we've had. The green curry was supposed to be 3 out of 10 and seemed hotter but still had a great flavor. Overall quality of food and price were definitely worth the trip. Went here with high hopes after reading reviews but man was I deceived. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because my 6yr old kid liked the sweet tea he ordered and the 2 for $5 egg rolls were pretty good. Ordered the Mongolian beef with fried rice and the lemon chicken with steamed rice. Mongolian beef lacked flavor/seasoning and had zero spice/heat was also in a very thin juice not sauce same thinness as a soup. The lemon chicken was extremely overcooked and dried out also lacked flavor. The white rice was even overcooked. And lastly the service was poor. The waiter was friendly but left the food and didn't return till we were ready for the check. I was hoping to be able to at least ask for hot oil to improve the flavor. Two thumbs down. read more

I love, love, love this place. Used to live in the apartments behind it and any day I was off during the week, I would stare at the clock until it hit 11:00 am so I could call in my to-go order. I know I wasn't the only one because it would always take a few times to get through. My favorite dish is the Yakisoba and yes, I'm aware it isn't necessarily "Thai" but who friggin cares because it's delicious. I usually got it medium spicy which has just enough kick. I'm also a huge fan of their spring rolls. So much so, it was the only food at my bachelorette party. At least the only one I remember.. Anyway, the servers are also really nice and very knowledgeable about the menu if you have any questions or want to make any substitutions. The prices have crept up slightly. I ordered the gluten-free chicken fried rice with vegetables. It was EASILY the best fried rice I have EVER had. The veggies are fresh. The chicken chunks were big enough to dunk in hot mustard or sweet chili sauce. And the flavor is outstanding!!! This is not your typical, junky, afterthought fried rice. Sadly if you order that on the lunch menu they cannot make the dish without peanuts. My daughter has a peanut allergy and this was shocking as peanuts are a common allergy. Needless to say we'll never return for lunch. As far as my dish I got the ginger chicken and Thai chicken salad combo lunch special. Both entrees were very bland. The ginger chicken tasted more like a Chinese dish with the thick sauce and the salad like an American one with added vinegar and fish sauce. The egg rolls were soggy because they were sitting in the sauce from the entrees. Now, the rice was a complete disappointment. Wow! This used to be our mainstay back in the day, but unfortunately, this will be our last visit after many years prior of satisfaction. The cuisine has gone were many Asian kitchens have gone; to commercialism over authenticity and quality ingredients. I went today for lunch. The destination was only 4 min away from where I work. I got there fast. I placed an order for a lunch special and a small appetizer with only water as my beverage . It took almost 30 min to be served. When I got my plate it was a small oval platter with heaps of food slopped on it. Such a disappointment to see my lunch was prepared. The curry samosas weren't the best but still decent. Then the entree was a medium-hot Panang curry, with a side of white rice. I can tell you right now the spice cleared up my sinuses and I will probably pay for this meal tonight, but the flavor was so effin' good. It had a rich flavor too it but wasn't completely overbearing. And the quantity of it... Well... I'm a big guy and can eat like a damn famished lion, but I'm taking home leftovers. So much food. The final bill for my curry was about $10, which seemed to be different from what was listed on the lunch special menu, but I'm not complaining because it was good. (My coworker paid for the appetizers.) So if you need a good lunch spot on the far west side, I would hit this one up. My friend and I love to go here for lunch. They do have a lunch special but I normally order something else. I love the House Delight as an appetizer. It's very filling and never disappoints. I don't like the gyoza so substitute it for more shrimp tempura. If you like cheese definitely get the cheese rolls. The restaurant is very clean and has a nice atmosphere.
