Came here for Happy Hour and it being Mon to Fri from 4pm to 7pm, it was perfect to enjoy items ranging between $3 to $7. On this visit I started with the California Rolls and a Lychee Martini - items I had before. I liked their California Rolls, however I only ate about 5 of the 8 on the plate as I forgot to ask them not to add fish eggs on it (I missed out). The Lychee Martini didn't taste as good as I had it on my first visit more than a year ago - this time it was only good for the first few sips, but after I didn't like the taste anymore. So, I decided to try something different and got the Asia Nine Wings and a Mango Martini. What a difference. I enjoyed the sauce on the wings (had a sweet flavorful taste) and the number of wings given was well worth the $5. I also got the Mango Martini - definitely tasted the mango with a little kick and now prefer this one to the Lychee. Definitely will try this spot again for Happy Hour as they provide some very good options with some great prices and I will not wait a year for my next visit. read more

I came here on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch with a coworker, the menu is very large and accommodated both our tastes. I ordered the Creamy Poke Tuna Bowl which comes with an appetizer of the day (dumplings for this day), fruit and miso soup. This was the fanciest poke bowl I have ever had, the taste was decent... but it needed more sauce. Overall my dine in experience was positive and I would have given this place a four since service was good, but I ordered delivery a week later and Asia Nine completely dropped the ball. Myself and two other coworkers ordered entrees for delivery, upon receiving our order... we realized that my entree was missing. We called Asia Nine to inform them of their error, they said they would deliver the missed entree as soon as they could.... they had just forgotten to place it in the bag.... 30 minutes later I receive my meal. My office is about a 10 minute drive from the restaurant, so either they completely forgot to cook my entree or they did not make resolving this mistake a priority. The least they could have done for their error was apologize? Maybe throw in a free appetizer? Something would have been nice for our troubles as I sat there starving while my coworkers enjoyed their lunches -_- I order delivery often at work, but avoid this place after experiencing this... I have never been the type of person to leave negative reviews. I have never took the time to write one. After my last experience I am so disappointed. I ordered the Crying Tiger one of the most expensive dishes on the menu and I asked for it Medium Rare, I got it WELL DONE. Okay second I ordered the Cantonese Fried rice, which is a no spicy dish but just to make sure because I was ordering for the kids I asked if there is no spice I was told none at all. I received the Cantonese Fried Rice with no exaggeration very very spicy I couldn't serve it for my daughter while everyone else had food. The lady who took my order over the phone seemed annoyed but all in all bad and very disappointing experience. Will not be returning that's for sure. I visited on a Friday evening for a dinner for two. I was seated right away(we chose outdoor seating). I wasn't sure who our server was but they were attentive at first but sparsely checked in on us as our dinner went on. I ordered the tofu Pad Thai which was pretty good. We ended up ordering the 2 sushi rolls for $9 as an appetizer to share between 2 of us. We also ordered the drunken noodles and the pad Thai. I have to say both were delicious. They came out hot and yummy. I only wish my tofu in my pad Thai was more flavorful. The service was great and we were in and out in about 45 mins. I've been an Asia Nine customer ever since it opened as a little mom and pop shop across from FBI HQ in downtown DC, and their newish Gaithersburg location seems to be pretty much a clone, so I'm well aware of its weaknesses (namely: its non-Thai dishes). In my opinion, Asia Nine should probably just drop everything from its menu except the Thai food, and just rebrand as a Thai restaurant rather than pan-Asian. Obviously, this five-star review is for Asia Nine's Thai cuisine, and I'd generally recommend sticking to those dishes on the menu, because they are just as delicious as you'd expect from any high-quality Thai restaurant. Quick rundown on logistics: this location is in a newish mixed residential/commercial development in Gaithersburg, just off 270. I still think of everything in that area as the Rio, but I think this particular development might have a different name. Parking is modern, free, and easy. The restaurant itself is large, well lit, and decorated with lots of faux stone and gold accents. Service is friendly and high-quality, and our server easily handled our group of 10. I've eaten a lot of dishes at Asia Nine over the years, and a lot of them are really good, but my go-to appetizer is the Tom Yum soup with chicken. A perfectly seasoned, hearty broth is the signature here, with tons of flavor and mild spices, delicious ripe veggies/mushrooms, and white meat chicken. The calamari is also really good. Similarly, for an entree, I usually go straight for the pad ka prow, which in pure Thai style consists of minced chicken (not just shredded or chopped), a hearty chili-garlic sauce, and crisp peppers and basil leaves over rice. Asia Nine consistently nails this dish perfectly, and you will be scraping the last bits off your plate before you know it. Other Thai dishes are good as a standby, and the standard steak on the menu is actually surprisingly good too. If you love great Thai, Asia Nine is worth going out of your way to visit. read more

Decent but unexceptional sushi. Have you ever had really good sushi at a place that also serves Chinese food / Thai food / pizza / whatever? Yeah, me neither. Multi-ethnic places like Asia Nine often try to be too many things to too many people. Better to focus on the one thing your cooks know best. That's doubly true for sushi, which is really best prepared by chefs who know how to cook and season the rice properly. I knew all that, and yet I came here out of curiosity, only to learn that lesson all over again. Anyway, on to the food. I came here recently for lunch and tried the Maryland roll, special tuna roll, and a few other items. They were fine, albeit a bit bland. As is often the case, rice prep was partly to blame. The rice was fine in terms of texture, but was under-seasoned, and thus made no contribution to the sushi's flavor. That's a significant (and common) error. Dunk your sushi in enough soy sauce & wasabi and maybe you won't notice the difference, but I'd rather forgo those crutches and eat sushi that tastes great on its own. Maybe Thai food is the better (and more authentic) way to go here? Worth a return visit to see. read more

This place has a wonderful location. The inside is very modern with a Chinese influence. The decorum is very nice and the service is decent. However, the food is below average and to put it blatantly, tasteless and dry. The sushi is the only redeeming factor at this restaurant. It is very well made and affordable. I often come to this restaurant for working lunches, i love the setup, the service, and the menu variety. It's a nicely decorated restaurant with a decent amount of seating. The menu consists of many thai classics, sushi options, and some other popular asian dishes. My go to is usually the Basil Noodle with either chicken or shrimp. This dish is always well prepared, well seasoned, and tasty! Other really nice dishes i've had include the basil fried rice, and the pad thai. The sushi was okay, but the teriyaki chicken was cold . It took us a while to flag someone down so that we could ask to send it back and warmed up. It was never really clear to us who our server was and felt very unorganized despite it not being too busy. It felt as if the staff has very little interest in their customers. A nearby walkable location with many nearby shops and places to see for the whole family. I enjoy a stroll around the pond and restaurants on a nice evening and also like the many different restaurants and bars to choose from. My sons brought me here for Mother's Day. (Party of 5). We tried getting reservations before going at 6pm and were told they weren't busy to just come in. They weren't busy in the restaurant but take out seemed to be. We were seated right away this was our first time there and the place is gorgeous. They were very friendly but unfortunately the service was not very good. It took more than 20 minutes just to be Acknowledged and get our drink orders and appetizers in. Appetizers took forever and they were cold by the time they hit the table. When we finally put in our dinner order and that didn't hit the table till almost 8:30pm. We racked up a drink bill waiting on food which was really delicious once it got to the table, but we were pretty much rushed out after because it got late. I came here AGAIN for lunch. I love their Vietnamese Cashew Nut dish - I usually get it with chicken. Price is reasonable since you get a lot and a bowl of rice. I enjoy atmosphere as it feels low key and modern. I tried a new drink called the Hibiscus Lemonade and it's sweet and refreshing with a sour punch from the lemon wedge. It's a pretty drink and I definitely recommend it to people who usually drink lemonade. I hope to try some of their other drinks next time - I was pretty impressed. read more

**TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE** a friend and I ordered food to go , when we got the food and looked at the volcano rolls we had ordered, we realized we only got 6 rolls instead of the 8 that the menu said they come with. When we called back, the manager named PETER said that they were cut "wrong" and that 6 pieces of roll that we received was 8 pieces, it was just cut wrong...but there was nothing he could do. He was very dismissive and didn't care much. When I asked if we could get a refund he said no and said he was very busy and that there was nothing he could do again. When I mentioned I was in the same shopping center and that it was unacceptable to say he was busy and there was nothing he can do, he offered to drop off a new set of rolls but he would need to pick up the old rolls, I said okay. (BTW that's so disgusting to pick up the old rolls. they had been sitting out and I really hope he wasn't trying to sell them again) He came about 25 mins later with an entirely different set of rolls that my friend did not want (IT WASNT THE SAME VOLCANO ROLL THAT WE ORIGINALLY ORDERED). When I explained that this wasn't the same set he got EXTREMELY frustrated and said "you can keep both sets of rolls, I am very busy, the restaurant is very busy, and this was out of my kindness". but he didn't understand that we didn't want the set of rolls he brought. He never apologized, never showed any sympathy and never agreed to a refund. I wouldn't have bothered writing this if it would have ended there..but it didn't! He lied and said he offered for a refund in the first place over the phone (BUT HE DIDNT!). this MANAGER got so mad and upset that he started yelling and screaming inside our store saying he was going to review our place of business and rate us terribly (We have cameras all over our store and you can see what he did! Cameras don't lie!). All we ever want is to get the right food because we were on lunch break and were waiting for this food for a long time. He said we could get a full refund if we went back to the store to process it and he told us to never come back to asia nine again. The manager told us to never come back as if we did something so terribly wrong to him when were the one who got treated so poorly like we don't have the right to complain about an order because we are just workers around the place. He never treated us like real customers. We work around the same shopping area near the restaurant, and he treated us so terribly inside our store telling us not to come back again in the restaurant. He even asked and write our own names and manager as if our order and the situation have something to do with our jobs. WE WERE ON OUR BREAK and we just want to eat and have our orders right. We should be the one asking for his name and the number to contact their HR/ Corporate office because we purchased from his restaurant, not the other way around!
