This place used to be amazing but recently, I noticed the quality has declined a little bit. I ordered honey walnut shrimp, and green curry and both were a bit off. The green curry was too sweet and watery, needed to be slightly thicker with more of that Thai flavor. And the breading on the shrimp was not good at all. We've been ordering from here for more than 15 years so it's unfortunate I had a mid experience. Even back in August 2025, it was great, not sure what happened in the past few months. I'll always have love for them since this is my most visited Chinese restaurant ever, but not sure if I'll order them as often. read more

This place is a ghost town! The interior is very dark, barely visible and has so many things stack up in a corner with random items there. I went to get a boba drink and the lady that did them just went to the kitchen got a bit if boba and when she started to make the drinks she made it look nice but when we got home and tried them it was like drinking sewer water with flavor. The kids were no mom this is not good and for kids to turn around and said boba taste bad that's surprising. I tried it myself and I was disgusted and the boba was rancid and hard. This item should be removed from your menu and never sell them again. I wasted $14 dollars down the drain thinking that the As seen in Food Network restaurant would have been a good idea to get boba from. All this clams for awards sure maybe for the food. read more

I was craving American Chinese food (specifically crab rangoons) and Mr. K's Oriental Cafe, next to the Dutch Market, delivered (not literally...although they do deliver). Called in a takeout order and had a nice friendly chat with the person (I assume Mr. K) when I went to pickup. There's indoor seating but it was in the down time between lunch and dinner so there wasn't anyone seated there. Lovely pictures on the door of school activities that Mr. K's has helped out with. Their menu is online and they have Chinese, Thai, Korean, and pho. Crab Wontons: 6 to an order. Mostly cream cheese and very little crab. The sweet and sour sauce was a bit watery and packaged in its own little bag to make sure it didn't spill out of the little cup. I do appreciate how it was crispy and not greasy. Honey Walnut Shrimp: large/jumbo shrimp with good flavor and a nice bite despite being in the white sauce. Pineapple and black sesame toppings with a sliced orange arranged in the takeout container. The walnuts had a delicate sweetness to it which I assume was the honey. The chef specialties also come with rice. This dish left me wanting more of it (in a good way). Singapore Rice Noodles: chicken, shrimp, beef, and some vegetables with curry rice noodles. This one had some kind of pepper to help give it a bit of a kick which left a good flavor without burning my mouth. Wish I had know about this place sooner and am excited to come back and try other dishes. read more

The general tso shrimp sauce was definitely not good it had a vinegar taste and the shrimp rolls were just bad. Vert bad service and menu problems. Ordered honey roast duck on DoorDash. Got a call that they didn't have it. I ordered the honey roast duck on DoorDash bc there was no delivery fee. Uber Eats shows Peking duck for the same price. I asked to substitute the peking duck, she said she would have to charge me extra. I told her I could just cancel my order on DoorDash, and order the peking duck on Uber Eats. She said they would not send it because the price is wrong. I told her if she did not substitute, that I would just cancel and not order anything. It's crazy that the menus don't match, and they don't have what's advertise, and told me they would not make the order if I order on Uber Eats! That is terrible service! The woman was very rude! The restaurant is calming and very nice to sit down in for a low key spot. There was gentle music playing in the background the was dangerously relaxing. My to- go order took about 30 minutes so I recommend calling ahead if you're short on time. As I waited, regulars popped in and ordered boba. There's a beautiful local relationship with the area that warmed my heart. I ordered curry tofu and fried eggplant. Both were extremely sweet to my tastebuds. The curry was the right consistency and I wanted to like it but it was just SWEET. No essence of coconut, just sugar. The tofu in the curry was beautiful so I was a bit saddened by the curry being overly sweet. Later I tried the eggplant and the sauce for the eggplant was sugary. I've never had sugary curry or eggplant and it very well could be my palate is very sensitive to sugar. For that reason, I won't try it out again but for those with a sweet tooth, this may be your spot. Beautiful staff, so stop by and support them as they support the neighborhood. read more

Surprised to find out that Mr. K's has PHO and has been serving it for a year now! I had to try it... My review is unfairly downgraded (I admit) by this being a jack-of-all trades oriental cafe instead of a dedicated PHO place. I don't know if that's fair or not because the PHO was quite good. I do believe that a place dedicated to nothing but the soup is bound to be using fresher ingredients and turning the broth over faster...but that's just a theory, on to the PHO review; The vegetable plate came out full, fresh and crisp. Actually, as good or better than most other PHO places (bean sprouts crisp, everything washed, lots of ripe jalapenos and basil.) The iced coffee was a disappointment. Both times I tried it. It was watery iced coffee, not true Vietnamese style. This was just American iced coffee. The 2nd time I confirmed that I wanted Viet style strong iced coffee over condensed milk. She confirmed this and kind of brought out a fake recreation...My little drip coffee maker came out but it had no coffee grounds in it? So, they had made the coffee somewhere else, and then just put the metal top on for effect? Coffee was weak, condensed milk did not seem as thick or sweet. The soup, though was pretty good. The broth can be a little on the salty side, which at first I thought might be MSG, but the menu says "no msg." Some times I've had it the broth is bland, but still good. The noodles were fine and the beef was good quality. I always get the same thing in PHO places (Large Tai, iced coffee, water) so it is easy to compare place to place. The soup was better than some dedicated PHO places. I don't know how the broth is prepared in a restaurant that makes Chinese, Thai AND PHO, but the taste was correct and it is presented at the expected tables adorned with rooster sauce, hoisen, chopsticks and spoons. Looked pretty authentic to me. I had not been here for years and had previously come only for the Chinese take out, which was very good. It has been remodeled inside and they now have nicer tables and a seating area. It is a little cluttered, but it gets the job done. I'll come back for the PHO when I'm in the area and I'd like to try the Thai. Large PHO and iced coffee cost me about $11.15. read more

I was a fan. But today.... was a true disappointment. Havent ordered from here in at least 6 years. Was my favorite then when living near. I still work close by so decided to order a delivery. No complaints on delivery time . I decided on a simple order of combination Lo Mein and beef egg rolls?... I requested shrimp since many places have that and was told no shrimp rolls only vegetable or beef. So I chose beef. My order came quickly but it was HORRIBLE!!! It had no flavor just totally bland. The noodles were over cooked and sticky. No salt, no garlic, no ginger, no nothing. The beef egg rolls were mostly dough and layers of egg roll with no vegetables or beef and no flavor oryx seasonings. The best thing was my cocoa cola and I was starving. I've eaten at this establishment 3 times in the past year. The owners are wonderful people, the environment is friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious. I ordered the bulgogi and the masuman curry which where both amazing, perfectly seasoned and cooked and lasted well over a couple of day. The food here's really not that good. Their dishes are pretty Americanized and greasy. I got their Orange Beef Lunch Special ($6.50). It's too greasy and sweet. Their Chicken Pad Thai ($7.95) is definitely over priced since it's not authentic nor good for that matter. The bubble tea - 3 1/2 stars. It's pretty dang good; definitely one of the better bubble tea I've tried. It doesn't taste too powdery at all; Their bubble and jelly were nicely made as well. Definitely worth returning for their Vietnamese spring rolls. Strongly recommended by the seasoned female staff member when we asked which spring rolls to order. Greasy, flavorful, and packed tight just right - we ordered 2 plates (3 per order). I love the teapot -yes that matters to me- jasmine was the hot tea for this gathering. The teapot, Vietnamese spring rolls, and casual cordial service were memorable. We pondered if they had an off day w/their pho. 'Twas warm not hot - all 3 of our pho bowls. Any pho slurper knows the importance of a hot bowl. So nothing was fused properly and no phlegm loosened. No sniffles. No stretched out pixie pants. I felt confused. I didn't finish mah pho. I know. I've been eating delivery from this place for years and they are still one of the best places in Germantown for food. The menu doesn't evolve much in the Chinese category (I'd love to see them offer more Cantonese or Szechuan options) but they do experiment and over Malaysian fried rice or dishes, sometimes Korean, so points for that. I'm changing my review back to 4 stars because I have since dined in at this place for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Sure, takeout is good - both the Thai and Chinese fried rice aren't my personal cups of tea anymore since they've consistently tasted old and dry, but the other menu options like the broccoli and beef as well as the Thai curries have been delicious. As I work in the same shopping center, I order delivery and takeout pretty often, and while utensils are sometimes missing from the delivery, the service has always been pretty fast and I appreciate that, especially when I'm hungry and dying for my lunch break! I haven't had pho anywhere else yet, so unfortunately I have nothing to compare theirs too, but by taste alone, I think theirs is pretty good. If you get it for takeout, it comes disassembled and you have to put it together yourself. The broth comes in a separate container, the veggies come in a plastic box, and the meat and noodles come in a styrofoam box. They include spicy sauces and a lime. They also deliver this, which is so convenient especially if you're like me and enjoy pho when you're sick and/or hungover and can't imagine leaving the house. It's great for colds and the flu, believe me. If you're stuffed up, mix in alllllll the spicy sauce and jalapeños, heat it up on the stove, and you'll be clear after the first bite. In terms of different options for pho, they have both chicken and beef as well as different cuts of beef. I usually stay on the safe side and order the #15 with eye-of-round steak cooked well done. I had a bad experience once being ignorant about pho with the #1, which has the steak plus brisket, flank, fat brisket, soft tendon, and tripe. I ended up eating around the other cuts because they had weird consistencies and tasted off. I'm not sure how fresh the meat was that day. The bubble tea is decent. I agree with the guy who said they're very sugary and rely on syrup. The closest other place that sells bubble tea is the bakery inside Lotte and theirs is a thicker milkshake-like consistency, but it tastes a lot fresher and less sugary. In terms of service, I've never had a bad experience. The main lady is always helpful when it comes to recommending something and I think she's really friendly. read more

This restaurant has been my personal favorite for the many years I have lived in Germantown, Maryland. I never order from any Chinese restaurant that is not Mr.K's Chinese Cafe. I often order the tantalizing combination fried rice and lo mein, which comes hot and absolutely flavorsome every single time. The staff here is very kind and the food is ready in a reasonable time frame (which depends on how much you order). The cooks never fail to surprise me with their outstanding food quality. We ordered here a few weeks ago and we ordered delivery. We live right down the road, so we figured 45-60 min which is also what they quoted us. Well, two hours later it's still not here so my husband tries to call and their number seems disconnected. So he calls 5 more times and then just decides to go there since it's not that far. He gets there and our order is STILL NOT ready. The woman was rude and couldn't understand why my husband was so pissed. She didn't offer to adjust the cost or anything. I thought that was ridiculous. So anyway, we decided to give them another shot because this was really the first issue we had. We both got beef and broc and it is disgusting. The beef tastes weird and has a weird texture. The sauce is extremely bland. This is the last time we will order from here. Do yourselves a favor and just go somewhere else. I have been going to Mr. K's for over 20 years. Tonight I decided to order lemon chicken. I often order this at other restaurants so I decided to try it at Mr. K's. I feel like I was completely ripped off and I am furious. They sliced up 2 frozen chicken patties with formed meat chicken. Most places do a very nice white meat friend in tempura with a thick sticky lemon sauce. The lemon sauce was watered down, thin and disgusting. Their bubbles are chewy and a tad sweet (just the way I like it) and their jasmine green tea and house black flavors are my favorite. They have a stamp card for a free bubble tea after (I think) 5 or 10 bubble tea purchases. Also, the owner of the store is super nice and always friendly.
