I heard great things about this place so I decided to check out the west Detroit location. I ordered 4 cornbeef rolls. I was exactly impressed. They weren't bad but nothing to rave about. I think they should add more meat. A lot of the egg roll had a high chunk of space with no meat or cheese which made for doughy egg roll. See my picture to see what I'm talking about. I want to try the cornbeef sandwich, but I'm not so sure I'll be running back so quickly. Service was quick - in and out in about 10 minutes.

I've thought long and hard about this review and It's based on the food and staff. I've been to a few of their locations and the quality and service are consistent. I've tried at least 4 or 5 of the egg rolls and all were absolutely delicious. The staff has always been friendly and orders don't take very long prepare (10 min or less). This is a really unique place to stop, if you see an Asian Corned Beef in an area, the areas aren't typically the nicest in metro Detroit, but the food is truly worth a visit. I recently stopped in on a Tuesday and grabbed the Tuesday special with 2 egg rolls, a drink and fries for the $7... Which is usually the price of 2 egg rolls! Great deal and great rolls! Im not typically in the area, but when I am, it's a treat to grab a few rolls and dig in. It's a delicious guilty pleasure and you can get a nice meal for $10 or less!

Corned beef and Swiss egg roll

Good ole Asian Corned Beef. A lot of people have never heard of an egg roll with corned beef and swiss cheese inside, and if you haven't, this is the place to go. There are multiple locations within the city with more opening. The egg rolls here are delicious, a decent size and affordable. You can get two egg rolls, fries and a drink for only $6. They have really good deviled eggs as well. I knocked off a star for a reason that is minor to me but may be huge to others...especially those that do not live in or visit Detroit often. This place (and a lot of establishments in Detroit) is very unprofessional. Half of the time, they do not answer the phone when you try to call ahead. The staff can be rude and have an attitude sometimes. If you are visiting from outside of the city, this will probably be considered a bad thing. But being born and raised in Detroit, this is very normal. I love this place.

They also have a couple Cajun dishes like Jambalaya as well as Chinese American dishes like General Tso Chicken. The building used to be used for a Coney Island and Supreme Black Belt kept the bullet proof glass. I kind of wish they hadn't because it just takes away from the otherwise cute aesthetic of booths, red walls and paper lanterns. You order at the counter here, there's no table service. My partner is vegetarian and I'm pretty sure he could only order two items on the menu: the plain cabbage egg rolls or the fries. He got the cabbage egg rolls. We were surprised to find that the cabbage was cooked in cinnamon. I personally didn't think the cinnamon worked or I felt like if they wanted to keep the cinnamon there should have been more salt and fat added to balance the dish out. I got the Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls. I loved how perfectly fried and crispy/chewy the shell was. The inside was pretty good but the steak was a little overcooked. There was a mustardy zing to the dish that I thoroughly enjoyed but I couldn't tell if it was in the egg rolls or the orange colored duck dipping sauce that was provided. All in all I wasn't absolutely blown away but I would definitely come back to try some of the other menu items.

It's little changes like that that elevate the dish beyond other regular sushi offerings. It was so appreciated! We ordered the spicy tuna roll. It had the excellent tuna and then they put yum sauce on it. That was odd because it masked the beautiful taste of the bluefin tuna, and that made it a miss for me. If you order, do yourself a favor and tell them no sauce. The dragon roll had real snow crab inside and eel and avocado on top. This also had a crunchy topping that I would tell them to hold if I did it again. It didn't really add anything to the dish and it obscurred the taste of the tender eel a bit. Not until I broke open a piece to isolate the snow crab could I truly appreciate the delicate flavor. It got a little lost inside the vibrant roll. The red dragon roll was well balanced and exactly what I was expecting. The bluefin tuna could easily shine on top of this roll. And it did. It was rich and succulent. The tigerlilly roll was lovely and topped with salmon and roe. It says on the menu it was torched. Ours was not. It was perfect the way we got it though, so I wouldn't change anything. I also ordered eel sashimi and the avocado, asparagus and cucumber roll for something refreshing. We all shared the rolls as we had drinks at the bar. Our bartender was attentive, friendly, and brought the sushi along with serving us our drinks. The lychee martini was a hit. What an interesting and slightly tart flavor! It was a light-hearted and fun time and I would go back in a heartbeat .

Service (4.75/5): Our main server was very friendly and gave us a good overview of the menu as it was our first time. They were great and attentive. We were also served by a second server who dropped off our food and disappeared so quickly that we waited a while before they walked by again. When we finally got the chance to ask for soy sauce and sauce dishes, they grabbed the soy sauce from a nearby table and left before we could even get to asking for the sauce dishes. Nothing terrible, but we did feel a little awkward. Food (4/5): Sushi was both good and not good. Of the 3 rolls we ordered, the salmon avocado and tuna avocado were solid; the proportion of fish to rice was great and the fish quality was above average from your typical sushi restaurant. However, the Tigerlily was quite disappointing, especially at $22 for the roll. The roll was torched a bit too long, cooking the salmon almost all the way, but my main gripe was a mysterious creamy sauce that was drizzled on top. The roll ended up being way too heavy and the sauce overpowered the salmon and the little bit of ikura that was sprinkled on top. On the other hand, the chicken katsu sando was really excellent. Chicken was juicy, breading was light and crispy, and the fries were well-seasoned. My only suggestion for the kitchen is to slice the sandwich vertically instead of horizontally; you can see that the bread on half of the sandwich was mostly crust/air instead of the actual bread part. Ambiance (4/5): It's got an upscale, modern feel to it that would probably make a nice environment for a date night or catching up with friends over happy hour. I was there on a Tuesday evening, so it wasn't crowded. There was music playing but it wasn't too loud, so it was easy to have a conversation.

Almost $190.00 for 2 mocktails, 2 appetizers (as meals) Miso soup, a sushi burrito and 3 rolls one of those was just a tuna roll also - it was exxxxpennnnsive...and just 'okay'. The lettuce wraps were mostly carrots and had little flavor, same with the soup. It all seemed like it just needed 'a little something extra' to make it pop! The atmosphere is another reason I keep coming back. It's modern, clean, and has that perfect balance of chill and lively. Great for a casual dinner, date night, or meeting up with friends. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming, and the service is consistently on point. There's just something about Inyo that keeps it at the top of my list. Once at their pop-up in Cork Town (highly recommend following their IG for info!), once at a food policy conference which they catered, and recently i was able to get out to their brick and mortar on Woodard. All three occasions did not disappoint! the complexity of flavor, the locally sourced ingredients, and the joyous staff make Pink Flamingo a true gastronomy. i will spend a little time talking about the two events in the past. Other than the fact that i literally ate 6 chicken salad sandwiches and took one to go at the conference (nuff said). However, in my most recent experience i was driving up Woodward and decided to pop in and see what was on the menu this week. The Quesadilla dinner caught my eye. Three quesadillas, filled with a protein of your choice, come with two sides. For protein, i went with the blackened white fish, and for sides, i chose beans and fried plantains. Rich and piquant flavor on the fish, met by a crispy cheezy quesadilla, all together it was savory and scrumptious. Plus, the sides were perfect additions, the plantains offering a sweet and salty bite and the beans cooked perfectly. Loved every bite and can't wait to make Pink Flamingo a regular lunch spot! Also great storefront, they sell locally made products so it's great to see those dollars stay in the community and the collaborative promotion of other businesses! And the staff were super friendly coming from around the counter to talk with us. Also, for a Friday at 3, the place was not too busy at all. Quiet, easy in and out. If you are having an event, have them cater. If it's Thursday in the summer and you're looking to kick back around a fire and fill your face with nutritious, delicious, and creative food, go to the Cork Town spot (weather permitting).

I understand you eat them "cold" but it was like they pre-rolled them & they sat all day in the fridge until it was ordered. I came in around 845PM. Felt the same temp as my ice cold water they brought out. Pork & shrimp very thin. Peanut sauce was very little, def not enough for 2 rolls. Took one small bite & took it home. As a Vietnamese, Very disappointed. Gave this place another shot & I wish I would've spent my $20 elsewhere.
