I wasn't happy about her choice, but hey, it's her day. After arriving with my wife we were promptly seated. My mother ordered the salmon, my step-dad ordered I forget what, and my wife and I ordered the ribeye steak. My wife and I had ordered the ribeye there before. The previous times the steaks were bland. This time though, wow! The food was super delicious! Now to the service. Keonna. Keonna kept looking at my mother. Not in a weird way, but in a I think I know you from somewhere way. Finally she told my mom she reminded her of her grandmother and told my mother she was beautiful. That made my mother smile. Keonna was also super attentive and on top of everything. Thank you, Keonna. You helped make my mom's day that much better. Then the waitress was very sweet but she literally directed her questions about refills and recommendations to my friend and not me. I literally had to ask for a refill and an appetizer. It was the most strange experience I've ever had. I was quietly erased. I rarely think that I am being discriminated against and hate to use the "R' word, but I was dressed professionally, well spoken, polite with good table manner skills, and normally people treat me with respect. This was definitely an outlier for me. My friend, the server and Manager share the same skin tone and ethnicity while I do not. The way that I was treated bothered me immensely and after a day of processing everything, I called another friend who happens to be the same skin tone as my other friend to ask him if I was "tripping". He immediately said that I had been discriminated against and that I should speak to my friend to see if she noticed and to watch her response. So I did just that. She apologized for how she subconsciously noticed it but didn't feel uncomfortable enough to step in and help me. She said that clearly realized that she should have intervened instead of allowing herself to receive better treatment than me and unconsciously condoning the behavior. I could tell that she meant it and was deeply apologetic. Smiths Landing is teetering on self-destruction by hiring a manger and staff who are making some of their good customers feel less valued than others. They are a discrimination lawsuit waiting to happen. It also showed how employees can destroy an owner's business if the owner isn't on top of things. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food is subpar and so is the service.

I asked if I could be seated and get a menu. He awkwardly said OK. After I sat down, he came over and said that the cook might leave early, and that I might want to hurry up and order. I politely excused myself and said that I would come back another time. I then drove to another nearby restaurant that also is open till 9 PM. I didn't get there until 9:35 PM, but they served me and were very pleasant, and I had a great dinner. I don't understand why a business would post their hours and then not abide by them.

I had the Philly Cheesesteak which was flavored well. My only complaint was the meat was a little dry. The bread was good but maybe if it was toasted could have elevated it just a bit. The daughter had the shrimp Alfredo. Different story. It was absolutely amazing! They gave 6 fairly descent size shrimp which was cooked well. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the Alfredo sauce was YUMMY! I will definitely go back and order the Alfredo pasta next time. Overall recommend this place. Oh, beloved Big Daddy. How I have missed you…read more After Big Daddy Ross' Cafe closed the doors to their Bay Point location, I was a lost, wayward child. Hungry, depleted, lost (and likely protein-deficient due to the loss of my beloved cheese omelet with avocado), I scoured the earth in search of another breakfast spot nearby, but none were worthy. They just didn't offer up the amazing flavor and friendly faces (hey Omar, Ross, Gaby and da crew!) that Big Daddy's always did. Then, one day, I was picking up a takeout order at a nearby brekkie spot and as I'm strollin' along, Ross himself runs out of their new location to greet me. It was a beautiful reunion and a welcome sight. I finally realized why I hadn't had my omelet in so long even though they had only relocated to downtown Pittsburg: the name change left me totally in the dark! But now that I'm back in the Light(house), I'm back to being a regular fixture in my old hangout. And it's just as good as it always was. Thanks, Big Daddy!
