The flavored drinks are pretty good! It's not overly sweet or bland. I'm a lover of regular teas and milk teas. Not a big fan of their boba (tapioca balls), but that's an easy fix- just don't order the boba inside their drink. The lady who took our order was sweet. I once lived near a Chinese take-out that wasn't great but could feed a family of six for cheap, as well as a fancier joint at twice the cost. Siu Asian Express appeared at first to be the former, but the food was way above par. The seating was comfortable, decor pleasant, and service attentive. An order of fried wonton stuffed with ground pork and shrimp was hot and crispy, served with a housemade sweet and sour sauce that was darker and richer than the fluorescent goop so often encountered ($1 for 5 pieces). Cups of hot and sour and egg flower soup were so piping hot I actually scalded the roof of my mouth in my haste to taste ($1.99 each). Totally worth it. The spicy sour concoction had a silky mouth feel, tons of veggies, and plenty of kick. The egg, tofu, and mushroom combination was very delicate, with a notable essence of chicken completing the cup. We chose to sample one item from each section off the menu, starting with Shang Hai bok choy sauteed in fresh chopped garlic ($7.99). Baby cabbages cooked just right with enough garlic to ward off a platoon of vampires. Simple, flavorful, and absolutely fabulous. All the stir-fried meats possessed the unique tenderness that results from "velveting", a combination of marinating thin slices of meat in a mixture of liquid, salt, and cornstarch, sauteed twice with expert timing. This chef has that process down pat. Speaking of, Chef Da's special chicken with yellow onion and fried shallot hoisin sauce is a must-order item ($8.50). The sauce has a lot going on, though ginger and garlicky shallot were most present. There might have even been a bit of Chinese five spice; it was just about as complex and delicious a sauce as you'll find. Hats off to the chef. Continuing on, a plate of Mongolian beef with onion, mushroom, and spicy hoisin sauce held its own on flavor and texture ($9.50). The heat was of the sneaky sort. The salty and sweet principal notes are familiar and comforting, then your tongue says, "Wait a minute ... wow!" The sliced mushrooms added a lot of earthy goodness to the dish, and there were plenty of 'em. There was nothing sneaky about the lightly battered kung pao shrimp, with celery, water chestnut, carrot, and peanut ($10.50). The veggies had plenty of crunch, the shrimp was tender, and the spicy, fiery sauce was a knockout. Long a fan of kung pao chicken and beef, this shellfish rendition might be the best Sichuan dish I've tasted. So damn good. The one meat dish that might not have been marinated was Peking pork chop, featuring a breaded and fried chop that had been cut into smaller bone-in bites, tossed in house plum sauce with sauteed onion and bell pepper ($9.99). The meat was noticeably firmer than the others sampled, which offered a nice contrast. Nibbling around the bone wasn't an issue, fresh ginger was very noticeable, and the veggies were excellent. We rounded out with a combo chow mein including chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, bean sprout, bell pepper, scallion, and a sauce that was a bit understated but perfectly fine ($8.50). The noodles were neither starchy nor greasy, and all the ingredients were fresh and tender. I ordered the taro milk tea. The milk tea itself was good, not chalky/powdery tasting like the other places. But, the boba itself was disappointing. I was not good. It was medium firm, not chewy, no real flavor, and had somewhat of a weird bouncy ball type of texture/feel in my mouth. I prefer my boba to be kind of sticky, medium with a bite kind of chewy texture. Overall if I was to come back it would be for the drink itself and NOT the boba balls. read more

I like this place quite a bit and come here about once a week. I usually stop in for dinner, but it should be noted that their lunch special is a better value while offering equal portion size as their dinner entrees. Most people will probably have a tough time finishing it all unless you're quite hungry. Downtown Sparks and nearby surrounding areas have a lack of decent Chinese food options so this has become by 'go to' place. The flavors are good, everything seems fairly fresh, and the food is largely consistent from one trip to the next. So why only 3 stars, you ask? They don't offer the drinks listed on their menu. I love boba tea and snow flake drinks, especially when the weather is warm out. On my first visit in March I was told they were coming as soon as the weather warmed up. Fast forward a couple months and I am told they are still working on the recipes. Then several more visits pass and I inquire again and am told the machine needed to make them is broken. How is it broken when it was never in use? I'm guessing they bought a used machine online and don't want to invest the money in fixing it. None of this would matter if they weren't listed on their menu. I could understand one item getting included on the menu and going to print without being removed, but we are talking half a dozen drinks. Lame. read more

Yes, the best boba in town is located inside a KBBQ/ Chinese place!!! I've been to every boba place in Reno and this has been my go to for years. There are a variety of drinks to choose from along with toppings. What makes this place stand out is that their drinks do not taste extremely artificial and their tea actually tastes like tea and not just overly sweetened water/ juice. My go to is the winter-melon tea, that can also be turned into a milk tea, seriously so good with regular boba and grass jelly! You can also control how sweet you want your drinks to be, I prefer 25% sweetness for just the right amount. I also highly recommend the Vietnamese coffee and matcha milk tea. The service is always great and fast, and if you're hungry they also sell Chinese food, or if you're really really hungry all you can eat KBBQ on the other side of the store. read more

We got our menus and drinks right away which I tried the bubble matcha green tea drink it was delicious. Placed our orders and got our soups and appetizers right away which was nice because we were so hunger. When our entrees came out I was shocked at how much food they give you and it was presented a lot nicer than other places. As for the flavor it was really tasty I have no complaints. I ordered the Mongolian beef and garlic noodles, both were delicious. For for any confusion, this is connected to the Siu Korean Bbq which is all you can eat. This review is for the Chinese food only. Had a Boba tea, was so excited to see this in Sparks! It wasn't the best but wasn't the worst, I had the Jasmine milk tea with honey boba. The tea was a bit bitter but the boba was nice and soft. Ordered the lunch combo of broccoli chicken for 6.99 which came with your choice of hot and sour or egg drop soup, and white or brown rice. I was a little disappointed they didn't have fried rice as an option. My meal was delicious, the server was very sweet and attentive. The atmosphere was great! We were shocked when we walked in and it was so nice inside with great lighting and ambiance. Also had a mango macaroon icecream sandwich and it was really yummy! It was small for the price ($3) but a cute, novelty treat I had never had before. Will definitely go back for food and to try some other boba teas to find one I like better. Over all great experience and highly recommend! Edit: went back today and they actually have a Green Milk Tea Boba, which is usually what I get. MUCH better than the Jasmine one. Clearly the bar is low for bubble tea shops in Sparks, NV and the greater Reno area. They didn't have Jasmine tea (without milk) or the snowflake shaved ice.. so we ended up getting something completely different... Jasmine Milk Tea with Lychee popping boba & popcorn chicken. Lychee popping boba is interesting, but it left this weird plastic film that did not dissolve easily in my mouth. I ended up spitting out the popping boba casing. I asked for the boba without any extra sweetner, but the drink came out VERY sweet anyways. It could be from the popped lychee balls? Popcorn chiken here is alright. It wasn't bad nor to die for. But they were OK even without chili powder on top. They serve it with sweet chili sauce. The inside is nice although attached to a Korean restaurant. We visited last week since its close to my house and well...Yelp kept reminding me to visit. Let's start with the entrance.... you walk in the door and are presented with tea bar on one side and a sit down Korean restaurant on the other. We were confused and stood around for a while with no one greeting or offering to help us. We moved to the tea bar side and made contact with the lady making teas. She told us that they have Chinese food on the tea bar side and Korean on the sit down side. We were doing takeout so we ordered Orange Chicken, chicken fried rice and crab rangoons. We also got a couple beverages while we waited.... Here's the breakdown... For the teas, you select your sweetness between 0%, 25%, 5o%, 75% or 100%. My fiance ordered Thai tea with 75% sweetness and no toppings... she ended up ordering a 2nd one because she was so impressed. Her favorite! My daughter ordered passion tea with 100% sweetness.... it was SUPER sweet, which she loved, I did not. But it did have good flavor. For myself, I really wanted a pineapple snow... but after ordering, I learned that despite spending 5 minutes asking questions about the teas and snows, she had failed to tell us that they don't have snows yet. But they will "very soon".... sad day for me. We got home with the food... Orange chicken- tasted like bbq sauce on chicken and Orange peel cooked into it . It was okay at best.... not like any Orange chicken I have ever had. Super strong flavored that needed to be added to rice to make it tolerable though. Fried rice - okay...lots of onions which was almost overbearing. Nothing exciting. White rice- Great! But we had to pay for it. I've never paid extra for white rice when I order entrees... that annoyed me quite a bit. Crab rangoons- Extra fishy tasting. Not certain it was really crab. It wasn't bad once you got past the over fishy flavor. They were nice and crispy with good texture. In conclusion- we will only be returning for Thai tea.... we might try the Korean bbq but not in ant huge hurry. The Thai tea is the only reason they are getting a 3 instead of a 2. read more

Mom and I came here for dinner tonight and were excited to find a new (to us) place that we hadn't yet been. We entered and the ambiance was casual. Nice lighting and lots of seating. There was only one waitress, who happened to be the same lady that was behind the counter preparing boba when we came in. She gave us menus and told us we could sit wherever. I spotted an appetizer, 5 shrimp and pork wontons for 1.50, and was sold! I also ordered the combo chow mein without beans sprouts and my mom got the wor wanton soup. The wontons came out quickly and they were itty bitty. Thinking they may be hot, I cut into mine, only to find some very undercooked meat. Anxiously, I opened all of the other ones too, but they seemed okay. I alerted the waitress to this and she immediately took my plate with the undercooked won ton away. Moments later she returned, she apologized and informed us that we would receive another order on the house. I really appreciated the way it was handled, excellent customer service! The chow mein was a generous portion with lots of beef, chicken, shrimp and pork. As requested, there wasn't a bean sprout in sight. Though, I think they replaced the bean sprouts with onions because there were a TON. Great flavor, though, and enough for leftovers. Mom said the soup was only so/so, but she tends to be picky. This is the third time we have been here since they opened and ordered milk teas! I can say this is our most favorite one now. We usually get the Thai iced tea just because it is our favorite and we are not really comfortable trying new flavors until today. We got out of comfort zone and ordered jasmine milk tea with cream for myself and winter melon milk team with cream for my fiancé. I have always loved just the regular jasmine hot tea but never tried the actual jasmine milk tea until today. The flavor is very strong but so refreshing and the sweetness is just about right for me as you can choose between 25% 50% 75% and 100% sweetness and of course i got 100%. Their honey bobas were soft and sweet and crystal bobas had a uniquely good taste and texture. And for my fiancé, she got the winter melon milk tea. I never really knew how the winter melon tasted like but when i tried hers, oh my god, it was a whole new different taste for me, it was creamy and it was so delicious though it was a little sweet. She also got 100% sweetness. Overall experience was just perfect. The cashier waited on us right away with a great smile and was ready to take our order right away. I wish I would have caught her name. Also, We did not wait that long either to get our drinks and she even brought them to our table. We will keep coming back! My previous review for the Asian Express side of SIU is under the Korean BBQ because this wasn't up yet for me to review. And that first review was 5 STARS AS WELL! ! SIU/Asian Express is without a doubt the BEST CHINESE FOOD I'VE EVER HAD!!! Each dish is bursting with freshness, flavor, and perfectly cooked ingredients and house made sauces that all create a perfect and harmonious symphony of deliciousness. Today I ordered Singapore Style Rice Noodles. They had the perfect amount of yellow curry, the white onions and bean sprouts still had a nice bit of crunch to them, the BBQ Pork was sublime, my only critique is that I wish the shrimp had been cooked a little more. It was by no means raw, but was just on the other side of done. It is a personal preference that shrimp is cooked well, very well, however it really should have been cooked more. Next I order this I will have to ask them to do so, which I'm sure they'll happy do! Next, I ordered Mongolian Beef. Ermahgawd! The slices off beef are nicely bite sized, tender and perfectly cooked. The onions and mushrooms are also prepared to perfection. Neither is too over cooked and mushy nor are they undercooked. The onions are amazingly full of flavor, I could just the onions on their own! More mushrooms would have been nice, too. I love mushrooms and there's an ok amount in the dish, but there could have been more. The sauce in this dish.....AWESOME! First, there's a touch of sweetness followed by a punch of flavor.....garlic, onion, soy, magic???? Then, very slowly and subtlety at first, a hint of heat starts creeping in, little by little it increases, then WHAM!!! That nice spicy heat warms up your tongue and mouth, it's not overwhelming but it's definitely strong! If you like spicy food, especially with a touch of sweetness to it, you'll love this dish. This Mongolian Beef will for sure be one of the items I order on a regular basis. Finally, I tried the Sweet & Sour Shrimp. I was pleasantly surprised to see Red Bell Peppers instead of the usual Green Bell Peppers as the Red Bell Peppers add to the sweetness of this dish in a most wonderful way. There was a nice ratio of shrimp to red bell peppers, onions, and pineapple chunks, again all were cooked nicely and all still had that nice bit crunch to them. I like my pineapple to be a bit more cooked, even with some caramelized spots! Buy overall, this is one of the better Sweet and Shrimp dishes I've had in quite a long time! The shrimps weren't too heavily battered, we're deveined, and each was a nice size, not too big nor too small. S&S Shrimp isn't a dish with too much wiggle room to mix it up, but as with all the other dishes I've had here from Asian Express it was done perfectly! I don't get that "greasy" feeling after eating the food from Asian Express like I usually do when I eat Chinese. It's all FLAVOR here!!! I'm glad I tried all new dishes today! I still think about how good their Kung Pao Chicken and Hot & Sour Soup are. And any of their appetizers will be good, especially the Fried Wontons which are a steal at 5 for $1!! I opted for a Thai Iced Tea, my usual, but their Bubble Tea menu is quite extensive and you can really customize it to your liking! As always, their customer service is on point! Friendly, fast, knowledgeable, and sincere! It's nice that I'm getting to know the staff more and they're getting to know me and my "usuals". The entire staff here is wonderful and each person really adds to the positive experience of dining here or getting take out. They really do make you feel like Family when you come in! I was super happy to see that the Korean BBQ side was jamming on a Saturday afternoon for lunch! From the first time I came here, I've really hope that this location does well and that SIU/Asian Express does well and becomes a staple in Sparks and Reno! It's also pretty cool that I only live 500 feet from their front door to mine! If you haven't been here to Asian Express or the Korean BBQ side, I highly recommend that you make it a priority to try them out ASAP!! I promise you won't be disappointed. I look forward to trying more of their menu items and enjoying the dishes that have quickly become my favorites. I really feel that you can't go wrong with anything you order here! I'm so happy there's a new boba spot in town. I came in and ordered the jasmine milk tea because that's what I order everywhere I go. The tea flavor really stands out but it's not overpowering. I asked for 75% sweetness which was just perfect. The price isn't bad for the size you get. I love how they fully cook the boba pearls because a lot of places don't cook them fully so it's either hard or super chewy. Finally! A great boba tea place in the Reno area! Before the area's only selection was the bubble tea kiosk in Meadowood mall, but even though the people there are nice, they use powered teas and drink mixes and you can totally taste it. This place, by contrast, is legit. Asian Express actually brews their own tea leaves, and you can taste the quality in the drink. I got the Jasmine tea, half sweet, and it was perfect. A really great balance of strong tea flavor, fresh and super yummy. I only wish they'd add more milk options (e.g. fresh milk, soy milk) for customization for those who don't like creamer. They also serve Chinese food here. I had the Singaporean rice noodles which were prepared well and tasty. I read on the news that the owner used to co-own Jazmine, which has what I'd say is the best Chinese food in town. It's nice to see that quality and taste has followed over to Asian Express. I ran across this place while dropping into a Game Stop in a strip mall. It was lunch time and Yelp pinged about ten places within 0.5 miles. This place is located in a side building of the mall. As a result parking is plentiful but it decreases the physical visibility. This place has two sides...a Chinese side and a Korean BBQ. The Chinese side is on the smaller side but seemed the right size for the lunch crowd without being "crowded". There was only one girl working the tables and to go register but she was handling it quite well. She was very polite and checked on me frequently. I never found myself needing any kind of help/attention. For lunch I went with a General chicken lunch combo which came with a choice of soup and rice. I went with Hot & Sour soup and regular white rice. I also added an order of fried wonton and an order of pot stickers to increase my sample size. The good...The lunch combo prices are perfect $7-8. The fried wonton were $0.99. I thought it was a typo but the server assured me it was correct. The pot stickers were yummy and we're complimented by the sauce which was soy and hot pepper based. I saw the combination and had my reservations but they were eliminated after the first bite. The chicken looked a little dry at first but then I noticed they placed the extra sauce on the bottom instead of covering/drowning it. This was a nice change since I got to choose how much sauce I wanted. The broccoli was also properly cooked. The bad...The fried wonton were overcooked. However it wasn't a huge detractor as they were made in house and the filling was good. The pot stickers were good but the serving size and price point we're a little off. The order only contained four vs the regular six or eight. The spoon which they use for soup isn't like most other Chinese places. It was narrower and deeper. The net result is I was "slurping" more than usual. The only thing which actually bothered me was the electronic signage behind their registers. I love when places make good use of technology because visuals assist order and drive interest. There were four monitors. One was set on their specialty tea menu, but the other three were on a rather fast slideshow of the beverages. It was just distracting especially considering none of them were captioned. If if I saw something which looked appealing I had no clue what it was. Overall the food and value were great for lunch. If I'm in the area again for lunch I will be trying the Korean BBQ side. This was my first time trying here! I ordered to go and it was ready in 10 minutes. I ordered the Mongolian Beef dinner combo. It comes with the entree, rice and soup. My only complaint is you can't substitute fried rice. You get either brown or white. The food was pretty good and it came with a big portion! I also ordered the Crab Rangoon's and they were delicious! The combo came with egg drop soup but I was to full to eat it. I've never had "bubble tea" and decided to try one. It wasn't really my thing but it's not because they made it wrong, it's just me! LOL! All together it was under $20 and I have so much leftover! I will go back. I usually order lunch special or veggie chowmein with Chinese vegetables. Best chowmein in town and I love the Vietnamese coffee.
