As a foodie I'm pretty lucky to live in USA. Some people in other countries don't have the luxury to eat different cuisines on a daily basis. However, if I were to live in a country based on their cuisine, it would be Italy. I'd have to work on a farm or else I would be HUGE. I won't be retiring any time soon though. Until I have that chance, I'll be hanging out at Assaggio's. The quality of their happy hour food menu is excellent. The bartender has a great attitude. Blood Orange Mimosa is my special drink. The best part of this restaurant is its décor. They are very classic and very nice. Next is the waitress, she actually pronounced the dishes in proper Italian. That took a little getting used to and made those dish a lot interesting. Then the foods. Well, they are not bad. If I want thin crust pizza, there is Serious Pie. For more traditional ones, we have Zeeks. Then there is Il Fornaio not really far away. The risotto used good ingredients and was well cooked. Then again, the competition for Italian is fierce and I can name 3 more restaurants, within walking distance, that are better. The conclusion is that I would probably not come back again. Not that the foods are bad or services slow, but it is simply not the top choice in this neighborhood. read more

I love Assaggio. The restaurant has a great ambiance, the service is impeccable, and the food is fantastic. I usually get the pasta flight, and it is amazing. The linguine, penne vodka and truffle pasta are my go-to's. The fried calamari and meatballs are my favorite appetizers and the tiramisu is my favorite dessert. Food and service were excellent; ambiance was good. We actually sat outside, with the weather being so pleasant, and even though it was sidewalk seating, it was still quiet enough to carry on a conversation. Very good menu, with the portions ample enough that you will not walk away hungry. We didn't find anything to be overpriced and would definitely recommend eating here. read more

I made reservations for dinner because it was highly recommended by a friend. Our table was outside and the evening was beautiful. Service seemed prompt and cordial as we were seated, and greeted. Fresh water was served and menu's were placed on table immediately. We ordered drinks and they were prompt. No bread was placed on our table to munch on while our food came. After ordering, we waited 49 minutes for our food to arrive.. This is unacceptable especially after noticing that the locals sitting around us were brought a basket of bread right after being seated. We noticed that the owner knew several guests sitting around us, these guests were all seated after we were, and got their dinner served first. After complaining to our waiter he profusely appolagized and told us there was a mix up in the kitchen. The owner basically told us he would cover our drinks if we wanted to leave. That was the wrong thing to tell a customer!! We wanted to eat! We were not looking to get a meal comped! Food: clams and mussels were excellent Bruschetta: no flavor at all. It was salty tomatoes on toasted bread. Pasta trio is an excellent idea! You get to choose three pasta samples for $26. We had the lasagna, bolonaise and carbonara. The pasta was al dente and to chewy for my liking, but my husband liked it. We were starving at that point. Wish I could have given this a better rating but it was the overall service experience that went south. Note to the owner: tourists are a very important part of your business. This was such a delightful find. We discovered Assaggio as it was next to our hotel. The food was so authentic and the service was wonderful! The owner's daughter greeted us. And immediately thanked us for choosing to dine with them. The next person we met was the owner. We sat in the bar and quickly ordered a drink. We ordered the ear shaped pasta and switched the mussels for sausage! This dish also included the local Beechers Cheese. It was fantastic! For dessert we had the lemon Tartufo! This place has been a tossup for myself and those I have brought there. Lunch with clients (2 occasions) Fantastic. Great food, well-cooked, attentive and friendly waitstaff. Happy Hour (3 occasions) 1st time: Inexpensive House Red, was actually a good wine. Flatbread was so good I ordered some to go for a dinner party 2nd time: Ordered Pizza and flatbread. Instead of flatbread, received a breadbasket. Asked where the flatbread was after about 20 min and was told "oh, I thought you ordered a basket of bread!" Uh, no. Then they charged for the flatbread and the breadbasket. Pizza came. Tasted like rubber...well, the one bite I was actually able to saw off was so chewy it took me about 3 min to swallow. I felt something dripping on my bare leg. (ok, I realize this is reading like a porn, haha) Luckily I was wearing a skirt so I didn't get some random's red wine spill that hadn't been cleaned up FROM UNDER THE BAR all over my clothing. However, my leg was sticky with someone else's wine. Left unhappily. 3rd time: Met a girlfriend for a glass of wine. Bartender remembered me from last time and apologized profusely about the spill under the bar, saying that a woman sitting there earlier in the day had dumped her vino all over the place and apparently he had missed a spot when cleaning it up. Don't know when the next time will be that I will return but I think I'm just going to be joining them for business lunches from now on. read more

I really like eating here for lunch, but I'm sure this place is great for dinner as well. I've literally gotten pasta each time, so I don't have much light to shed for the other entreés, but based on the flavors I've tasted from the pasta, I'm confident they're tasty. The first pasta I tried was the wild boar ragu. I like the pasta (parpadelle) they use. The ragu is a bit salty for me, but the boar is tender. The seafood fettucini special is probably my favorite pasta I've eaten at Assaggio. It comes with shrimp, scallop, and some fish in a tomato sauce. The seafood is cooked nicely, and the sauce is nicely seasoned. If you like macaroni and cheese, I recommend the orchiette. Beecher's cheese is featured in the dish, and there is some truffle oil in the sauce as well. Orchiette pasta is one of my favorite pasta shapes, and it was cooked perfectly. The bread is also yummy, definitely use it to dip in remaining pasta sauce. read more

I came here for my birthday in February and I remember it being a very elegant and upscale restaurant. We had a large group of about 15 so we sat in the "private room" behind the hostess podium. The lighting was very romantic and the atmosphere felt very high-class. I already knew the bill would be a pain to split but it was my birthday so my boyfriend handled it instead. Phew! Our waiter was so helpful and knew that we'd want to order a cheaper bottle of wine so we ended getting two bottles since not everyone drank. He kept checking up on us every so often and was very pleasant. The food was delicious! Well, my dish was, at least. I ordered some type of mushroom risotto with truffles. Oh myyy. Truffles are delicious! I think that was my first time but dude, seriously. Truffles are legit. And there I thought thinking "why would they put chocolate on my risotto?" Went here for my bachelorette party dinner. We had 12 people here on a Saturday evening. We arrived and they had a huge table set up for us. The place was super cute. And the waiters were wonderful! Very attentive and always checking on us and bringing as much bread as we could handle. Now onto the food. The bread was so delicious that I had 4 slices before dinner dipped in the olive oil. For the main course I had the brown sugar sage gnocchi which was good. Everyone ordered different dishes and they all said they were good. Definitely a cute place and a great location in Belltown. The restaurant looked like it had potential - nicely decorated interior, bright and inviting, but turned out to be yet another mediocre Italian joint. We started with Caprese salad, and well, I can make better at home. How the hell do you screw up a dish so simple? For main course I had their risotto special - kinda bland, kinda forgettable. Boyfriend had a spaghetti with meat sauce, and that was alright. Tiramisu for desert was decent but not to-die-for. So yeah, mediocrity ruled the night. Assaggio (to me) is one of the top Italian restaurants in the greater-Seattle area for a number of reasons. The food is very good, the service is top-notch and very friendly, and there's a great atmosphere - it's an excellent restaurant to celebrate special occasions, get together with friends and family, or enjoy a nice date with a loved one. It's quality across the board. I one time was running 30 minutes late for a dinner reservation for a special occasion, I called the restaurant and explained that we'd be late and the restaurant was kid enough to ensure a table news held and reserved for us, despite it being a Friday night - during the dinner hour(s). When we arrived, the hostess didn't give us a hard time and was kind enough to assure us that we didn't need to stress about being late. Another time we booked a table for a part of 12(?) and needed up having extra members show up and the staff was able and willing to help us the new additions to our dinner party. The staff has shown to be more than willing to accommodate these type of requests on multiple occasions and they're just friendly during normal interactions as too. That means a lot. The food is great. As good as the service is, the food is even better. I've tried the Caprese, Cavolo, Affettati, Rigatoni, and the Linguine Alle Bongole - all of these are very good choices. The Caprese was really good. The mozzarella had a nice bite to it with a creamy interior. The cheese paired well with the flavor. Tomato, basil and cheese are a great, classic, pairing. The Cavolo salad has such great flavor. I love the combination of the bitterness of kale with the texture of pine nuts and currents. The parmigiana provides a nice added bite. The Rigatoni Peperonata is 1) fun to say and 2) has a great spice from the red pepper and Italian sauce and then had the nice acidity and richness from the tomato cream sauce. It's a very rich and hearty pasta, but it's so good. The rigatoni was a nice al dente. It's a really good dish with a nice bite from the pasta, good chunks of meat, with the creaminess from the sauce. The Linguine Alle Bongole is completely different flavor profile. It's very light and has an elegance to it, because of the white wine and seafood. The combination of white wine, garlic and lemon creates such a light and refreshing "sauce" compared to the rigatoni. The pasta once again was cooked very well. Great seafood dish with a good amount of seafood. The portion sizes are good, the price isn't bad for the quality of the pasta and the freshness of the ingredients. If you combine that with the service, the dim light and intimate atmosphere, then Assaggio is certainly worth its value and such a great place to visit. It's a must. read more

I have tried to leave my comments at the restaurant's phone - once by voice mail - I never received a call back - and twice by phone - I was cut off mid sentence in both instances.. Pre-Covid, I was a semi regular and constant reccomender of Assaggio with glowing reviews... On Dec 2 it was my wife's birthday. I ordered $140 worth of food to celebrate the occasion. I gave specific instructions as to which side of our building and intercom instructions etc. Nowhere, until the final payment sequence was there any indication that it would be DoorDash delivering.. The delivery time changed from 6:00pm (as scheduled), to 6:25,... to 6:41. When I got a text saying the driver was here, I went in my slippers to find him...eventually it turned out that He was at a different entrance to the building and had no clue about the detailed instructions I had submitted. Falbbergastingly, once I asked, he did not recognize my name and assumed the delivery was for someone else. So I walked away and in the end came back and helped him make the connection with the name and got the food. Downer, Appalling, Ruin of the evening, Never Again, and my efforts to follow up lead to nothing etc etc - terrible. Sorry for the rant! read more

We opted for this place because it was on the same block as our hotel, and we weren't disappointed! We had the pepperoni pizza and penne with vodka sauce. The pizza was good--large slices of meat, and a thin, crispy on the outside chewy on the inside crust. The pasta was perfect--creamy sauce with onions and pancetta. YUM! Bread was a perfect accompaniment. Service was a tad slow, but that's forgivable. I would go back. Nice place; welcoming staff. read more

I have been to Assaggio before as business casual but never in DRAG so I thought I would take a chance. The first host that greeted me looked somewhat shocked but a the other host rescued him and greeted me enthusiastically pronouns correct. I was definitely overdressed compared to most of the women their so possibly the 1st guy was overwhelmed. The younger gentleman seated me in the front dining room with a view of the bar and people entering at a nice table. My waiter was very attentive and proficient attending to my needs. The ambiance is truly authentic Italian and reminded my of the places we dined in Venice. I just returned from Italy less than a month ago and was still in the mood for Italian Food so I ordered the Caprese salad. It was presented with 3 large slices of tomato covered by a basil leaf followed by the Mozzarella cheese. The plating was very impressive with the tomato and mozzarella almost equal sized and the basil protruding slightly above. It was awesome and the cheese was aged perfectly. I selected the Veal Saltimbocca for my main dish and although the flavor was great the prosciutto was a little overdone but, the veal was great. The meat was sliced thin so tricky to cook especially at 8:30 on a Saturday night. I will definitely go back and order something more suited for a busy night. Maybe Calamari Fritti When I left the owner Mauro reached out to me and inquired as to how everything was and if I enjoyed my meal. I was tempted to tell him that I was just a few miles from Ancona where he grew up but he was talking with some pretty ladies and I did not wish to interrupt. So disappointing! Worse meal I've had at a restaurant. Ordered one of the daily specials. Salmon was lukewarm, mashed potatoes were lumpy and tasteless, broccolini was old and undercooked (hard to even cut it with the knife). The pizza: only thing I can say is Don't order it!! Delicious!!!!!! The food was to die for, especially the ravioli! The huge scallop melted like butter in my mouth...it was so good. The pasta sampler was amazing. I loved the linguine and clams, but the smoke salmon pasta was alright, but still pretty good. Oh and the soft bread and the delicious garlic, capers, etc.,etc., olive oil was aahhhmazing!! Our starter Caesar salad was pretty good too!! The owner is so friendly and recognized my last name was Italian.. Most people think "Navigato" is Japanese or something..so points for him! This is one of the few places I can eat without issues (due to dietary restrictions). Assaggio knows how to cook salmon perfectly (as easy as it seems, this is often a challenge for restaurant kitchens). It's perfectly tender, moist, and juicy. If we wander here for a work lunch, I often order the salmon with mista salad (with only olive oil as the dressing). Simple and incredibly tasty. Service is always good. Seating area can be a bit confined for bigger groups. read more

Great service. Fun, lively atmosphere-feels like you're eating in Italy. They were willing to make any substitutions to the menu. Very accommodating. After we described our wine preferences, Steve picked out a yummy Montepulciano. Arancini were fabulousio! We had the Pasta Pepperinata. It was okay. The sausage was a little too grisly for me. The atmosphere inside isn't bad, a little crowded. It's on a nice street near the heart of downtown Seattle. What goes on inside however, not so nice. I am a single BIPOC person that walked in looking for a place to eat next to my hotel. I was told by the short maitre d that there was nothing available, not even at the bar. Mind you, the restaurant and bar were less than half full at this time. His height wasn't the only thing short about him. I went back outside of Assaggio to look at my phone for another restaurant close by, as I was checking, two "business type" guys were walking in, and one was asking the other if they needed a reservation. He said "no, the owner will get us right in. They both did "get right in with no reservation. SHAMEFUL that the manager, a POC himself, chooses to discriminate. read more
