Detroit style pizza. I've only have had it occasionally over the years (In Detroit!) so the idea of having a place that does it right in town is nice. The pizza is damn good. Edges have a good char, the crust is great and the toppings rock. This is authentic stuff. It's the type of pizza that you want to keep eating when you're stuffed. All the beer that I have tried is not bad. Not stellar but beyond good enough. They have a full bar and patio seating. Hardest part can be parking on a busy day. Also note that dining in with kids is a no go. Staff is great and the setup is nice. For me the bottom line for me is the awesome pizza. I drive 25 minutes for it so there you go. read more

Speaking as someone who grew up here, I can say this neighborhood is lucky to have this place, now 3 years old since last month according to the bartender. This place is a pretty nice, new addition to the Foster area. The space is huge, with tons of seating arrangements for big and small parties, a large bar to order from, and a stage where DJ's can play music. The two times I've gone, the people working are really friendly, and never pushy! The last time, we ordered the garlic knots and small supreme pizza to split between two people. The garlic knots weren't that garlicy, which I wish had been more, but they were soft and tasty, especially with the marinara sauce for dipping. The Supreme Pizza was so good, and I'm not a huge fan of Supreme pizzas in general. When it came out, I was a little nervous seeing the huge glob of sauce in the middle of each slice, but it wasn't overpowering at all, and added that nice flavor to the whole slice, that elevated it even more. The toppings were plentiful, and crust crunchy, but not so hard that it would break teeth. I had a cider with it, the only one they offered, so I wish the offered more selections of that, and they were all out of a couple beers on the menu. Assembly continues to make an excellent pie - the highlight of Detroit style is the cheese around the edges that gets nice and crispy. The small version is 4 rectangular slices, each with 2 crunchy edges. The large is made up of 6 slices, two of which only have one crispy edge. So, if you're debating how much to order, two small pies will give you two slices more than a large pie, and all of them will be dual sided with the cheese. The art on the wall remains a highlight. Pizza and beer themed takeoffs on the Diego Rivera auto factory murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts cover two walls here, and I highly recommend grabbing a seat that faces them. And let's not forget that 'Brewing' is part of this place's name. Their beers are wonderful, whether served up on tap, or canned to enjoy at home. Close to 2 years into the pandemic, Assembly was open for dining in, with tables spread further apart than in pre-Covid times. You can't get just a slice of pizza between 5 & 8, not even on a weekend. Kitchen is slow. Noisy as hell because of dining room design.

We stopped in for lunch and after eating here I wondered why it had taken us so long to try this pizza. Their Detroit-style pizza, with its combination crispy/chewy crust is reminiscent of a pizza joint I visited with my parents as a kid. Their cheese and toppings are fresh, the pizza was so good we ordered one to eat there and one to take with us. The gentleman that waited on us was friendly and knowledgeable, offering suggestions for the unique and flavorful beers they have on their rotation menu. The space is pub-style, with high ceilings and concrete floors, but with the tables spaced sufficiently to allow for conversation. I've been here a few times, including pre-Covid. Back then it was a huge open space to enjoy a pint and a pizza. Now we're doing more takeaway. Staff is always pleasant and it's always been clean. This is where you go for seriously deep dish pizza. I love the rectangular style. Crust is on point, toppings go the edge, and plenty of flavor. Pizza holds up just fine for takeaway. If you enjoy their beer they have reasonable pricing on growler fills. I've been here twice now and it MAY just be my current favorite spot for pizza and brew! I love the Detroit style with a thicker crust. The first time I came here, we got the veggie and it was BOMB. The crust was perfectly crispy with enough depth that it wasn't soggy and plenty of veggies. The second time we got the hawaiian and it was just as good but almost too much cheese for me but if you're a cheese lover then no problem right. The crust also wasn't as crispy but I know just to ask them to make cook it a little bit longer next time. OH, I almost forgot to mention the cesar salad - GET IT, you won't be disappointed if you're a cesar salad lover. Service has been awesome each time. The servers are super quick and attentive. The first time I came they only had 3 beers on draft which was quite disappointing (they were on their second week of opening) but this second time they had a full menu and their wheat beer was quite delicious! This place right here is everything I never knew I needed in my neighborhood. Foster Powell has just recently seen an increase in pizza options after a long drought but we haven't seen pizza like this. It's square and tasty and surprisingly not too doughy. My partner and I split a large veggie yesterday and felt that it was just the right amount. The beer is good, the staff is super-friendly, and the inside is open but also not cold. It has some heart to it. My favorite part is the dog-friendly seating outside though. We were there a few days ago on a nice day and each of the four outside tables had a dog tied up there. So, I guess they're going to need more tables! I'm really excited for summer here! read more

I really like the inside and the service was great! One of the owners was also going around introducing himself. All nice, over all fan - so far. . . . That said, there are a few flaws. The inside is wide open so it is really loud when it is busy. They need a few room divider screens or something to dampen the noise a bit. The pizza is good but a bit expensive by a few bucks. A two topping small, an 8x10 (4 pc) rectangle, was $17.00.The beer looks like a great selection but some of the beers are a little more bland than I like, they need a little more flavor. I tried all the IPA styles and the Pale but the "Smash" was definitely my favorite. Will I be back? Yes, I live nearby and I am so happy a place like this opened up here. I do like what they have done so far and I am hopeful as to what they will do with the beer in the future. p.s. - they could really use some good chips and salsa as an appetizer. Not many brew pubs take advantage of that option even though it goes so well with beer and it is an extremely simple item to send out of the kitchen. read more

Bad customer service. I love the pizza at Assembly. Is it expensive for the size, yes it is. But with everything made from scratch, I'll pay the premium price when I have a hankering for it. I've had a few not-great experiences with drive up during the pandemic (order forgotten, waiting, etc) but nothing horrible so I splurge every once in a while and get their great pizza. I go enough that I received a coupon in my email. So I try to log into my account so I can use it. I can't (it's not working on their end even trying different browsers). So I tried to call just now and twice I've been hung up on. It's ridiculous that they can't answer the phone. I WANT TO PAY THEM FOR PIZZA AND USE A COUPON I earned buying pizza there. I can't so I try and call and nicely ask how I can order using the coupon and get hung up on. That's really bad customer service. Guess they don't want my money anymore. read more

one of our favorite breweries mainly because they are open late- but also because they have yummy pizza and growlers available to go! since we have started coming here, the beer selection hasnt really changed. they have 12 crowd pleasing choices to pick from; if you like lighter beers i would recommend the kolsch or the pale ale! as for ipa fans, the live-pa and tropical ipa are worth a try as well! psssst -at late hours, they offer good prices on pizza and pizzas by the slice! the area is very spacious and service is always above and beyond. a few months back, i dropped half of my pizza and one of the male bartenders that worked on a friday night was nice enough to give us two free slices of pepperoni to go! We got a tomato burrata salad which was a little under salted but otherwise nice, and then waited maybe 40 minutes for our small pizza for two. The D was FANTASTIC and definitely worth the wait. We ordered Caesar salad, garlic bread sticks, and a few different pies. Everything was tasty and came out quick. The Caesar salad was a classic Caesar and what you expect when you order a Caesar salad. It's big enough to share between 2-3 people. The garlic bread sticks were just the right amount of garlicky. The pizza was fantastic! It featured an airy and cheesy crust full of flavor. Tasted even better the next day cold. While they had a great beer list, I was hoping to see a sour available, but ended up getting a couple of Pilsners with my meal. A couple guy friends and I tried this place as for our usual Friday lunch get together. There is a sizable parking lot on the north side. The space is large in a newer building, but has some character with windows on two walls, skylights, a great huge mural of beer making along one long wall and some reclaimed large wood beams framing the roof. It was fairly empty on this day, with maybe 15 people at the most while we were there. There is table service at night, but at lunch you order at the bar and the food is delivered to your table. There is a good house made beer selection with simple descriptions to make choosing easy. Pints are only $5, which is less than many charge (they also have 8 oz. glasses). They also offer 32 oz. "growlers" to go, which are aluminum cans the seal up with a special machine at the bar, for $10. The menu is fairly basic, with a few appetizers, sandwiches and salads, but their specialty is "Detroit style" pizza, which is what we had. The pizza is in two sizes, the larger having 8 slices and was enough for the 3 of us. The pie is square shaped, has a fairly thin crust with heavy toppings, and appears to have the sauce added after baking. Whatever the name, it (the "Supreme") was quite good. We did not have a salad, but they looked good. With the uncrowded venue, easy parking, good beer and food, we are going to put this place on our lunch rotation list. read more

Been anxiously waiting for this brewery to pop up on foster. They currently only offer 7 beers on tap along with 2 ciders. All beers are $5 or you can choose do a sampler (4 4oz beers) for $5. I also ordered the breadsticks which was nothing spectacular. I wish they displayed more tv's for sporting events instead they only have 1 behind the counter. There is an outside patio with 4 tables available. The parking situation is terrible as the lot only offers 8-10 spots and then you'll have to find neighborhood street parking if it's full. Gonna give this place a try again when they get more beers *UPDATE* Came by here couple weeks later only to see 4 beers available on tap. I ordered the IPA and server comes back with a sample of IPA saying that the IPA tap blew out... now they're down to 3 beers on tap only.... what a joke. My friend went the previous week and said that there were only 4 beers on tap. How do you run out of beer at a brewery?? Had I known I would've just went across the street to Bar Maven where they have a constant 10 beers on tap along with happy hour. This place is so cool. Very PDX vibe, craft beers and ciders. The pizza is the bomb! There were seven of us, 1/2 have been here before, the rest not. Will definitely recommend this place. The pizza was awesome!!! Chicago style. Thick crust, cheese, meats,sauce on top. Never had pizza like this b4! But will definitely b back and definitely recommend. Only down side, we got a bill for entire table, when we clearly stated we were separate. However shift change may have interfered with that.
