Assi Plaza and is more of a marketplace than a store. There's a Shiseido counter, a food court, electronics section, food, cell phone store, you name it, they have it. In addition, there's a full-on restaurant connected to it. I used the sushi place to cater a lunch once, and they had a massive sushi/sashimi platter for $65 which fed 6 people. Salad and soup not included. They do NOT accept American Express. For their grocery, I noticed everything was reasonably priced. Some of the veggies were a little iffy as far as freshness goes. read more

This is the largest asian grocery store I have ever visited (it puts H Mart to shame), and although it is Korean, they have a whole variety of asian goods as well as american/international products. They have a great selection of fruits and vegetables, and it is cheaper than other grocery stores. The only downside is they don't have a section for organic produce. The next section includes a selection of pre-prepared meals that can be heated up; followed by seafood both fresh and frozen; then endless aisles of asian snacks, sauces, and seasonings; a meat aisle where I like to buy my pork shoulder; a frozen food aisle where I desperately search for fish balls and fish tofu which is not always in stock; and lastly is the knick knack section which I love because I can't find these random asian kitchen contraptions anywhere else. Within the same building, but sort of separate, there are a few random shops, offices, and a food court that is surprisingly pretty good with a great selection of stuff. read more

A decent overall supermarket. If you're looking for fresh fruits or seafood at a fair price, this is the place to go. I also pick up other Asian foods here, but that's about it. I still go to an American supermarket for my other needs (meats, condiments, soda), but this is my go to for seafood and Asian imports. The staff don't seem to understand English too well, but enough to get by - you just need patience. And there is a mini food court in the back should you get hungry during shopping. Assi is one of my preferred supermarkets to shop at. That being said, Assi is not for everyone. Pros- Fish Market is on point, everything isn't always the freshest, but if you have a discerning eye you can usually take home some great seafood at a good price. Last time I went they had a fish called pampano, It was delicious. You can pay a little extra for them to clean the fish or you can do it yourself. Wide selection, the store is broken up into isles by nationalitly. You can find ingredients here you can't find at the local giant or renders ie' galangal root, mushroom sauce and lime leaves. Cons- The store layout... can be confusing. I shopped there for 3 years and I never could make much sense of it until this week when my friend clued me in on the fact that the aisles are broken down into nationality. It also explains why I used to find Soy sauce in 4 different isles. Language barrier, if you can't find something on your list, trying to find someone who speaks enough English to help can be difficult.Everyone has always been friendly, and you can't discount them. Once a nice spanish mam stocking the shelf was able to point me in the right direction of the galangal root (it's in the frozen section near the crab meat). Prices. They have some really reasonable and sometimes excellent prices for fish and produce, but you have to know what to look for. If you go shopping for dairy, snacks or other common houshold products, you will be over charged. I've never seen common cheese more expensive, barring maybe giant. read more

Price? Most of the vegetables and fruits are very fresh, at approximately half of what you would pay at other most popular supermarkets; one wonders how those big guys have managed to charge more $$$ for no good reason (well, TV commercials, for one). Great place with different variety of foods. Sushi is cheap for three rolls. Everything comes with soup which is awesome. And my mom gets the spicy beef udon and its really good and not to heavy. My little brother will get the pork or chicken katsu either way he leaves there happy. read more

As supermarkets go, it has lots of fish and meat that you wouldn't find in other stores. It has other international foods as well, such as those that cater to Latinx (Goya...). I'm a little surprised that the food court remained opened during covid-19 when it means that everyone in the store is exposed to people eating within the building (sort of defeats the purpose). However, not having had to use customer service and only going in for quick items, I think this was a good experience overall. read more

I've seen other Asian markets in the cities and they can be scary places. THIS however is exactly what you want a grocery store to be. Clean, well stocked good supplies I love going here. this is where i start my weekly grocery shopping and only go on to places like giant for the things I can't find here. Particularly good are the fruit and veg and the fish. All of which has a much wider variety than normal and has a very high turn over so you know it's fresh. This is where I go for fish! You'd be hard pressed to find large joints of meat but smaller cuts and unusual things like beef tongue and duck legs are easily found. and if you want to play Dr. Porkenstein and put a pig back together from the bits they sell you almost can. The only down side is the staff is mainly Korean with somewhat limited English language skills. they are friendly and helpful but on occasion I've had communications issues. asking for a manager got me the 'old stony face.' But these are few and far between and I love going here each week to see what I'm going to experiment with. read more

Amazing international supermarket. The store is filled with goods and everything is fresh. Offers a huge variety of seafood and snacks. Stopped by the food court and was thrilled. We ordered spicy rice cakes, seafood ramen, spicy ramen and a noodle dish with egg from the Friends joint. Everything came out steaming hot and fresh. This is a Korean supermarket that also carries international foods of other countries. It is one of the cleaner Asian groceries that I have been in. The foods are well rotated and fresh. A lot of Asian groceries in smaller towns do not have the Asian population to have high enough demand for fresh food. Assi carries fresh vegetables, fresh seafood, many fish assortments. They also have little food vendors that have Ramen, oriental drinks, and bakery. I am very excited to find Assi and will be back for my routine groceries to make Asian food. read more

Great place to get your Asian groceries. Produce is very cheap but sometimes the freshness is not great. I would recommend shopping for produce here only for your night's dinner. They don't seem to last too long in fridge. I usually get my main staples here : sauces, noodles, rice. Seafood is pretty good and cheaper than most regular supermarkets. The meat is okay, however don't get the ground pork. It always tasted funny to me. If you come on Sunday, they give out food samples, which is great because you can taste before you buy. They have a food court, where I've gotten some Korean food and tried the sushi too. Affordable but okay tasting. I don't come here as often since I've moved away, but still stop by once in awhile on my way home from work. read more

Can't believe it's taken me this long to review Assi; it's been my standby for Asian groceries when at home for most of a decade now. Anyway, overall it's an excellent choice for one-stop shopping for Asian groceries of almost any kind; there are a few extremely esoteric Chinese goods which I can only obtain in Chinatown, but I can count them on the fingers of one hand. Other than those few things, anything I've ever needed to cook Chinese, Japanese, and Korean I've been able to find at Assi. The store is well-lit, well-kept, and most of the staff is very friendly. The organizational scheme they have is difficult to comprehend, but unlike other places they don't change it every three weeks, so I've long since figured out where everything is; they sort of cross-categorize things by culture for smaller goods (Chinese soy paste is with Chinese condiments, not near Korean soy paste) or type for larger ones (all rice in one area, all dried noodles in another). Once you've figured it out it's not so difficult, but it is kind of odd. I've never encountered any staff who were actually rude, but a significant fraction of them speak only rudimentary English, and the seafood department tends to be brusque ("you can't touch that" kind of brusque). Otherwise, no complains on that front either. Regarding prices, the vegetable prices are second only to bulk produce stores like Produce Junction, and even there they're within shouting distance, which means they're vastly better than other local supermarkets. The prices on Chinese imported goods are generally the same as in Chinatown, sometimes a bit higher, but everything is in one place and it doesn't require a trip downtown. The food court is alright; the bakery is nice and I'll occasionally get a bubble tea for my wife at the cafe but the restaurants are pricey enough compared to getting the same thing in a full-sized restaurant that I only occasionally eat there. read more

The seafood manager is a complete jerk. He treats all customers like garbage and management is fully aware of his poor behavior. I have shopped here for over a decade and will never shop in this place again because management will not address this issue. It is a damn shame because it is a good place for groceries. But I can't patronize a place that allows such poor behavior from one of their managers. read more

Nice place to shop for international foods. However, there seem to be a lack in integration. Cashiers are all Asians with sulky and uncourteous dispositions. To be honest, I felt a little uncomfortable as an African. I ventured to ask the cashier a question about a product, but stopped short because of her attitude. I just wanted to pay and get out. Please, can you show a little less prejudice in your service to the American public? Employ Black, Brown, Yellow and White people. It makes shopping more comfortable! read more

Really great Asian grocery store & food court (similar to H Mart). Though I was primarily there for the food court, I did stroll around checking out the offerings. Produce and Meats sections look solid with great prices and unique items. Also noticed they have a great selection of matcha and seaweed snacks. The food court itself is smallish with 3 restaurant booths, a boba tea/drink place, and a bakery. My husband had a bento box featuring the pork cutlet from booth two and I had a the spicy squid/rice dish from booth 3. All the staff have good English skills and the food is delivered to your table. Both meals were tasty and priced right. We had bubble teas following for dessert. I had the matcha (which I asked for slightly less than normal sugar in) and it was good. The boba themselves tasted a little more rubbery than I prefer, but it was still tasty. My husband had the 'Thai tea' flavor which he enjoyed but I thought tasted overly perfumed and strange. The teas also came frozen/blended which I thought was odd, but realized it is most likely because they use a powder base. read more

A big Asian supermarket in the suburbs. I don't live in this area, but visit family near here. The place is fairly big and has lots of choices. They even have several mini-stores located inside and a small food court. I got a drink at the food court area. Prices seem reasonable and it's great to see items you don't find at the regular supermarkets in the area. The shopping center also has a hair cut place, some restaurants (Lailai Brothers is great) and a Music store. read more

Assi never lets me down. They are always in stock with almost everything. The variety of cultured foods (at least over 30 countries) is what surprises me and keeps me inclined to come in. Also, there is a little food court that has so many kinds of options (odon, sushi, rice, bubble tea, chicken, ect.) plus a bakery. The makeup section can be pricey, so you can definitely buy that stuff online or else where. The produce is always fresh and prices are amazing. I recommend coming in and walking through the aisles. Generally in suburbs of Philadelphia, conservative Americana rules with an iron fist. But Assi atop a high hill in the 5-point pike area of Montco stands resolute against a world which would normally see another Giant or Acme rise. Owing its survival to the mass population of Asians which resides in the area due to Merck. Assi is a clean Asian Supermarket, and when I say clean I'm talking truly clean. Not clean for an Asian Supermarket. So it should not turn away anyone less acquainted with the "functionality over aesthetics" policy which dominates Asian culture. If you want to be truly immersed in the experience go during a Sunday/Saturday afternoon, and set lunch aside to eat at their food market, as well as try the various Korean samples found around the store. One would think the Assi market could be a bit intimidating if you're not of Asian ancestry. And it is... the first time you go. Many of the labels are in languages that ... well, aren't English. The products may be unfamiliar. Some of them may be downright unusual depending on your frame of reference. You may very well be the only non-Asian person there. But, this isn't the Acme! Enjoy the immersive experience, talk to a few of the other patrons. Don't be afraid to stop, touch, smell. Take a chance! Maybe my clueless look and the fact that I'm pushing around a Kewpie doll of a Kid help. I've always gotten top notch service from the staff, lots of suggestions from other shoppers, and left with plenty of goodies. I took my daughter for the first time in two or three months on Saturday. We had a great time looking at all the produce, left with some amazing deals on herbs (hands down the best place to buy fresh herbs) and I always take her to look at the fish tanks. She is delighted by the "cwabs." My only complaint: The pricing selection on non-speciality foods is HIGH. Cheerios are like $5 for a tiny box. Yogurt is $1.50 for a cup that will run you $.35 at the Redners less than 200 yards away. I hate to think that the owners are preying on individuals who may be language limited or can only make one stop. I prefer to think of it as the markup that can be likened to a minibar Rum. They're banking on a captive audience. Still... Great selection, amazing produce, tasty food court finds. (and the only place for a Boba fix in all of the Montgomeryville area) Win! read more

I'm not sure why it took my so long to stop by this place...it has always been there, just begging for me to pull over, but I was always "too busy" or "not hungry". Hogwash! Anyway, I finally stopped by today. The basic layout is like that of any grocery store...small vestibule that leads into the main floor. You are immediately hit with a "different" aroma...different spices and an obvious assortment of seafood are in the mix, for sure. This isn't a bad thing at all, just different than the norm. Obviously, compared to Giant, this ain't the same experience. Shelf after shelf contains goods I've never seen/heard of before, and probably couldn't determine their contents if you paid me. These items end up right next to mainstream American fare like hotdogs, which is an amusing dichotomy. Anyway, beyond package goods, there is a fairly extensive seafood and meat counter...its a bit jarring at first to see a help-yourself crab tub, full of semi-alive crabs and a pair of tongs, but I suppose its more practical that way. Also expect to find packaged chicken hearts, gizzards, feet, oxtails, etc along with the usual wings, thighs, etc. I can't say I'm in a big hurry to buy any of it but I applaud that use of everything, so kudos there. An extra star is earned for the entire endcap full of Sriracha, including some big-ass bottles. Gimme! Huge sacks of rice...and a small but very densely packed Mexican section also tempt the wallet. Some Indian goods in the mix too. Venturing onward you find the household goods section, the electronics section, the furniture section...all very tiny but neat to see tucked away in the corner. Well, near the corner...because the actual corner contains the best part of all...the food court! Plenty of people around chowing down is always a good sign, so I dug into some spicy cold noodles from the vendor on the far right (name escapes me, menu is in the car). Yummy! I am not a Korean food veteran so I probably did it all wrong, but I ate it all so I hope that cancels out lost style points. I really want to go back and try other dishes/vendors...nothing seemed terribly pricy and the variety was great. I dig this store a lot...I can't imagine it becoming my general grocery of choice (for a variety of reasons), but I can see myself stopping by regularly for some cool uniqueables and a quick, tasty lunch. Since I moved away from the north I've missed Asian markets. When my family said they were going to a Korean market I said I'm coming along. This place is clean and has loads of seafood! Cool kitchen gadgets and lots of pretty Asian bowls and cookware. They even have a few beauty counters. My favorite part was the food court. My brother got the rice cakes w the red and spicy sauce. I came back today looking for ingredients to cook dinner but couldn't find WHITE TUNA! :( I would say stop here before stop by HMart in cheltenham. This place is a lot bigger than Hmart and they do have a lot more sushi grade fish than Hmart. They just didn't have my white tuna which i know Hmart does. read more

If there was an Assi Market near my house, I'm afraid I would be in big trouble. I absolutely love the variety of international food products available here! And the prices are totally affordable. But I'm not writing this review about the grocery store section of Assi Market. I am writing today about the food court hidden in the back. Holy moly! I LOVE THAT FOOD COURT! Sure, when you walk into the area, you wonder what country you have just stepped into. I love that. There are many Korean and Japanese food choices, and it's pretty authentic. And I love my noodles, so if I can find some good noodle dishes out here in the 'burbs, I'm always excited. :-) Make sure you try the "Friends" menu (one of the 5 food venues), and I highly recommend the Kimchi fried rice, and any of the Ramen dishes. I usually grab container of Bibimbap veggies in the prepared foods section (in between the produce and seafood departments), which perfectly compliments the rice and noodle dishes. Yes, I eat both. I am a full-fledged fatty when I eat at Assi Market. I would seriously eat there every day if I didn't live so far. Thank goodness I don't live too close, because a special trip to this market is an absolute treat! Don't forget to try some of the baked goods in the food court as well. The red bean buns melt in my mouth -- my mouth is watering just thinking about them!... Lastly... DO NOT GET THE BOBA TEA at the food court. It's really sub-par, especially if you know what good Boba Tea is supposed to taste like. Assi Market offers some "scary" items that are not for the faint of heart (I'll let you discover them yourself!), but there are so many other yummy things to try, you should definitely check them out! read more

As interesting as this supermarket is one has to be real careful that they are not overcharged. I had 3 items in my basket that were charge between 60cents and $1 each and when I approach the customer service they took 5 mins to check the prices. Hello I have $75 worth of goods in my bag and you think I will cheat you of $2:20. They came back saying one was wrongly priced and refuse to refund me. I left and told them they could keep ally $2:20. I spent MORE than $ 5000 a year as I buy stuff FOR my restaurant here as well. GOOD BYE NOT coming BACK. read more

When Assi Plaza opened in Montgomery County, everyone within a 50-100 mile radius was all about it. Finally, a Korean supermarket in the greater Philadelphia that is with the modern times. Now, we Koreans have more options than just Kobawoo and Han Ah Reum in Cheltenham. Since, I am familiar with Assi in LA, I was excited to go to a brand new location. To my chagrin, it didn't have as many groceries as I anticipated for such a HUGE store. This plaza does have a food court and a few other shops (jewelry store, cell phone store, cosmestics, hats and undergarments, What's good about this location, unlike the one in LA, is that it offers more than just Korean groceries - it really is an Asian supermarket because it offers Chinese, Thai, Japanese, etc groceries. They also have a chicken take out place and have a hut in the middle of the store that sells old school korean bread with red bean in it. Nice size parking lot. read more
