Chicken Brochette

I had a great experience here! The staff was super friendly and caring!! The chicken and rice was so well flavored and came with some yummy grilled veggies! Super chill place, perfect for a casual lunch and doing some work on my laptop!

Chicken shawarma sandwich, my bad for the pic, I got too excited. The salad on top is hiding the chicken, hummus, and garlic sauce.

They're back! New owners, new menu, new everything I guess, but finally Astor is open. Stopped in on day 1 after seeing the OPEN sign lit up in the window, first to actually confirm and later to get takeout. The folks there were really nice, the restaurant is really attractive and clean, and it feels a bit like it was back when old Astor was good. The menu still seems to be a work in progress, and they are working out glitches in their online ordering, but the food is solid! Got chicken shawarma sandwich, beef shawarma sandwich, kofta sandwich, and a cheesesteak, and everyone raved. Their hummus was really good, their baba ganoush was incredible. Honestly, we were ready to cut them a lot of slack being brand new, but I'm really impressed. For those old timers who can remember Astor from two owners ago, this is much more like that quality-wise than the reboot that only lasted a year or two. You might need to be a bit patient while they figure things out, but it's worth it, at least so far. So great to have another option in Lyon Park. I'm definitely trying again, will post an update and better pics next time.

The service was AMAZING! The owner was very kind, told us all about his kitchen, and he shared free food (the date pastries are delicious, and lentil soup to warm a cold night). Besides the hospitality, the food was warm and delicious. There is plenty of indoor seating for large groups, the portions are HUGE (my shawarma platter is enough for 3 meals!), and it was priced very affordably. An added bonus: their rice pudding was fluffy and delicious.

Update - I'll give it 4 for the pizza. Crust is a little thicker but still chewy, the Greek pizza was pretty good with feta, gyro meat, pepperoncini and olives, tomatoes and garlic. Super garlicky. Tomatoes were great with the thicker crust. Super easy to order online and ready when you get there. Fries are also good for $2. Gyro is just ok, but only $6.50, quick and easy.

Hands Down....The Best Gyro in the DMV!! Juicsaay and full of flavah!

Absolutely the best gyro west of Athens. And on a grill marked peta bread. Three doors. Outside under a grape vine. Ample parking in back.

We only ordered drinks, and to start, we had the pistachio espresso martini. It was so delicious. The rim of crushed pistachios was the perfect touch. My second drink was the lemon elixir, and although I'm not a fan of the tartness of lemon, I did really like this drink. I think the creaminess overshadowed the tartness for me. My last drink of the night was the orange dreamsicle. This was definitely my favorite out of the three! It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet and had a creaminess to it that I enjoyed. On top of the tasty drinks, we had an amazing waiter! He made sure to explain all the drinks to us and he was very accommodating. I'll definitely be back to visit next time I'm in the area!

The espresso martinis were a little too sweet and taste more like chocolate milk than a martini. My favorite dish of the night were the fries, everything was decent at most. Not a single dish stood out to us in any way. We tried the Octopus, lamb shank for two, chicken kebabs, and tzatziki dip. The lamb was bland and needed salt while the chicken was super bland and dry. The octopus was OK and the tzatziki was decent. The fries were the only really tasty dish of the night. I'd skip Layli as not one single dish made us want to come back, especially for the price. The search for a great Arlington restaurant continues

I got the chicken shawarma bowl. The roasted cauliflower was definitely the best part of the bowl! The mint lemonade was also AMAZING and one of my favorite things I ordered. We all were so full by the end of our meal but wish we didn't so we could have more. You can tell everything is made in house with so many veggie toppings which I love!! You can get as much toppings as you want, either into a wrap, bowl, or salad. 10/10 recommend!! We also tried the cookies. She said to give them 6 or 8 minutes (can't remember) and they will be ready. Cookies are fresh fresh and always warmed up per order. They were perfect. I made my owner online and it was very easy to do. The owner was so nice while we waited for our order. There is metered street parking available for this restaurant and I did not have an issue finding a spot. I personally ordered the Greek Philly. I was was thoroughly impressed with my food. First, the portion size was huge. I could not finish it in one sitting. Second, it came with a huge salad, which I was not expecting. The salad was delicious, the Philly was delicious. The fries.....not so much. They were crispy and hard. The salad and Philly were both tasty and packed with flavor. I cannot say enough about this place. They have a wide assortment of food including gyros, salads, soups, wraps, paninis, burgers, skewers/kabobs mezza, and antipasti. They also have worldwide booze, including imported beers. I am glad that I was able to experience this food and highly recommend checking this place out.

Outside feels like a complete different place (so pick indoor seating). Second, the staff is very friendly. We ordered several of their appetizers for our group and they were all delicious. Their kabab plates were a hit. They also offered a good selection of drinks. Minor thing, and it is from personal experience only: their menus are printed on black paper and in a plastic sleeve. Reminds me of the bad touristy places in Europe. It did not represent how good the food was, because usually we run away from this Massive Plastic menus... so I Joel one day they will update them to something nicer for a better first feel.

I got there after 6pm. It was packed. It was my first there and had no idea what I was getting into. The menus doesnt explain much nor were prices mentioned. Its like $39.99 They also tacked on a service fee. Which is deceiving since its not mentioned upfront in the menu. You find out when you get your bill. The service was 5 stars. The young man very attentive and friendly. Ushered our dirty tables and brought us our drinks. I had minty lemonade which I recommend if your gonna eat a lot. Here's my gripe. Its very important to label food. None of the food trays or stations were labeled. I have several food allergies and I had no idea what was what. I had to ask what was this or that. One tray had rice and I saw something that had deep fried crispy something. I thought it was chicken... it was fish :( The hummus was good though. The baklava meh. The pita bread was good. Some rice tray had kabob type of meat but it was lukewarm. For the price I paid, its not worth it. Please label your trays. Im give this place another try with my husband after Ramadan. , I saw on the dessert menu they have Knafeh.. a delicious middle eastern dessert that I love. Can't wait to try that.
