We went to this company to have oil changed in car, transmission fluid checked, and a tune up. He said the car would be ready in a few hours but was not. We come back the next morning and it still was not ready. We waited 3 hour, paid 400, then left. When we drove the car, it was in worse condition. There was no oil in the transmission and there oil in the car. Positive: Quality, Value: $ I liked this place, the manager went right to work on my electric LEAF to install LED lights that I got a deal on thru online shopping. I needed something brighter for safety, and he explained to me that he had to vent the housing under the hood a touch as the builtin fan would not be cool enough in the long run, causing problems otherwise. He wound up charging me 30% less than what he asked, probably didn't hurt my cause being a gringo who can speak spanish just ok! Nice people, nice work. Had an alternator issue that, over the course of 11 MONTHS, resulted in 4 different trips to these guys. And despite running all their diagnostics and ringing me up for new parts and labor on each trip, they couldn't ever diagnose the problem correctly and, on the final occasion, sent me out with the car saying, "Seems okay" only for the car to completely die on the road at night, less than a week later. If you're thinking it was the car, think again (it was a 2009, very well-maintained, no issues before). So after nearly getting into a major accident with the car dying in middle of traffic at night, I can't say that anyone should go here with any confidence. I was referred to Astro Auto Electric by a buddy who had nothing but good to say about his alternator rebuilt. First impression (call) was with the very nice lady, gave a quick quote and that was that. I had my alternator dropped off was ready wtihin a couple hours, installed and works PERFECT. Just last week my starter took a dump on me so I called and reached the nice lady again, quick quote and starter dropped off... 2 hours later starter is rebuilt/finished, installed and works PERFECT. All I can say is good customer service, work, and they provide a warranty on work performed. I would recommend anybody needing a rebuilt performed (much more affordable then paying a stealership for rebuilt). I'm on forums where people get remans that crap out soon after install, and a buddy who had another local shop rebuilt 2 starters which well both need rebuilds again and or replacement ... 2 thumbs up for Astro! read more

I could tell my car's alternator or its voltage regulator's diodes were dying and not charging because the headlights would dim gat idle and brightening at higher speeds. After checking the battery, and measuring the voltage with and without the engine running, I drove to Astro Auto Electric to have them verify the fault lay with the alternator/generator. Tori knew exactly what was wrong. The technician Jesus (I think that is his name) installed a new alternator in only a few hours. They also checked my battery and notified me the cells in the battery were only at 75% of capacity. Fortunately, the battery is still under manyfacturer warranty. read more

It's next to impossible to find a shop that does starter and alternator rebuilds these days, much less one that has a good reputation and decent pricing. I gave them my '97 Toyota Landcruiser starter w/ full rebuild kit including everything from plunger, contacts, and bearings to grommets and seals. They had no problem using my (customer-supplied) parts, and they returned my starter freshly rebuilt, including a great paint job, for $55 out the door! First time I've felt like the customer was robbing the business. BTW I found out that, in addition to anything electrical, they also do tune-ups and brakes. When picking up the starter, I noticed several $$$$$ classic cars in for repairs in their garage; I'm not surprised Astro is the choice of the perfectionist classic car crowd. Astro has been a family owned business for over 40 years- this business is truly a Los Angeles gem. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

Thoroughly Competent and Honest, Astro is one of the VERY FEW family rebuilders in Los Angeles- I have NEVER had a premature failure of any part of theirs on any of my vehicles- Whether its a plain stock starter motor, a custom build for a high compression engine, or making a 1 wire alternator to fit your toyota or ford- Astro is the 1 stop shop- Many of my friends insist that they can save $20, and get a lifetime warranty from Kragen or Pep boys, etc- but then they are replacing them every 18-mo's!! They should change their name to Awesome Auto Electric because that's what they are in my book! I brought my 2006 Tundra to them with a turn signal & lighting problem and they diagnosed and fixed it within a couple of hours for a very reasonable price! A couple of days later the lift gate on my commercial box truck got stuck on the down loading position on the ground due to some electrical or motor issue I presumed so I called Astro Auto Electric up and asked them for their advice in getting the lift gate off the ground so that I could bring the truck over to them. The owner Jesse was kind enough to refer me to this great guy named Jose who has worked on a lot of hydraulic truck lifts and he was actually able to come over to my location to fix the problem! Anyway the long and short of it is I love old school family businesses like this who really care about taking care of their customers and doing top notch work and who go out of their way to refer you to someone else if they can't immediately address your problem!
