Kind of interesting to see the juxtaposition of good/bad reviews here. Either way, I came here twice during my recent vacation in the area (which has a dearth of decent food in the immediate vicinity) - and in both cases we had a fantastic experience. The food itself was excellent. No complaints and the hummus and other dip options we tried as our appetizer were absolutely delicious. They were also very accommodating and kept the (yummy) pita bread coming! We tried several entrees including the Shrimp Alexander, Gyro Platter and also the Greek Salad. Everything was delicious, fresh and very tasty. The service was also very friendly and they were really great to our children which was an added bonus. Generally speaking the entire experience was solid and contrary to some opinions, this is not diner food. I would happily eat here versus some of the mediocre diner food we get up here in northern NJ/NYC. The only blip is they charged for water as they don't serve tap water. I drank soda so that didn't affect me but it did seem weird not to have tap as an option. However, this didn't detract from the overall experience which was favorable in terms of the food, ambiance and service combined. I will definitely be back again the next time I'm in the area.

Service: 5/5 Food 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Value: 4/5 Total: 19/20 Haven't had the opportunity to visit this place in person in some time, and I feel the quality of the food is exactly what you would want from a Mediterranean Greek style restaurant. It's a cute place and the service was good. Would definitely be coming back, instantly a local favorite.

    Chicken kabob platter- very good!

Ordered delivery from here, and was surprised at how fresh and warm everything was. I got a chicken kebab platter, which was large with a really nice salad. The tzatziki was very tasty, and the pita was fluffy and flavorful. A really good experience, especially for delivery!

Good Greek food and superb service. I need to remember it is BYOB. Large portions at a reasonable price.

Brussels sprout with bacon is sooo good, crispy yet not at all oily. One of the best made dish in all of tri state region. Very impressed. We also got the prosciutto pizza and it was thin, yet packed with cheese arugula and sauce; so flavorful! Wow Definite will return again!

We had no wait for a table around noon, although they were briskly busy on this holiday. Our server was relaxed and not bothered by the commotion, took his time and helped us through our choices. No brunch cocktails for us, we dug right in to meals. I chose the peach burrata caprese salad plate with a side of blackened chicken breast. Although the menu said the peaches would be grilled, they were cold. Perfectly ripe and firm, a great sweet contrast to the balsamic vinegar drizzle. Creamy burrata, basil, and sliced grape tomatoes rounded out the plate. This was a superb salad. The grilled chicken was a $6 add and came on a separate plate. Generous sized, the breast was well seasoned and tender. We took some home with spouse's plentiful potatoes from the skillet. Spouse went with the meat lovers skillet with scrambled eggs and wheat toast. The skillet had ham bacon sausage and cheddar cheese with a huge pile of potatoes and two scrambled eggs. It also included wheat toast. This was a lot of food! This is a bright, well lit, smartly decorated restaurant, where I would love to have spent time at happy hour. Good service, good food, not overpriced at all. Maybe another visit next time we're in New Jersey!

When it was first advertised on Instagram, my friend made a reservation. However, when we arrived the staff were confused and overwhelmed by the big turnout and made no effort to assist us promptly. They sat us inside since the patio tables were already taken, and we waited 15-20 minutes for someone to take our order. The ambiance was casual and the noise level was very loud. They have a bar on the main level and the place just looks like a casual pizza joint. The patio seats looked more appealing and I found out after we left that they were doing a giveaway which we weren't included in. The girl dinner menu options were very basic with no meat or seafood options. I probably should've ordered off of the regular menu. I started out with an espresso martini which was okay, not the best and not the worst. Next I had a Caesar salad that was drowning in dressing that was too creamy and rich for me. The cheese pizza had a nice dough but the marinara and cheese were below average. I've had better pizza from a gas station, but I was starving since I'd already been there for 45 minutes. My friend only ate one slice of hers. I suppose we got what we paid for since it was only $25 per person. By the time we got our checks and were ready to go check out the book store, there were very few options left. If it weren't for the great company and the chance to check out Austen's Shelf, this night would've been very disappointing.

Chicken francaise was ok, good lemon, but kinda sweet. Wait staff was attentive, but What was disappointing surprise was we were seated at 4pm, and early bird is 3 to 5. Chicken francaise was listed as an early bird choice. However we ordered 2 of those and both were charged full price at end of meal. When I asked if we ordered too late for the cheaper early bird price the waitress said "you didn't say the words 'early bird special' when you ordered" so you oay full price. Very surprised at lack of customer centric manner.. either ask the customer during order process since YOU know there are 2 prices possible, or assume if someone orders something on the early bird list, they want that price...... Net: future customers beware of that trick.... not sure I will ever go back.

It's been awhile ... and you might notice the added star but I can tell you that the fourth star…read morewas wavering in the cool winter breeze because once again we had to search for any staff to refill our water glasses or to just check in on us. Since we are talking about five years since my last review I am guessing the "leave them alone so that they can talk" philosophy of restaurant service is an institutional policy. Frankly, the service was better than the 2017 review but please we should not have to leave the table and walk into another area of the restaurant to find our server to ask to have our water glasses refilled. And, the kid from the land of the dead whom I at first thought was a customer lost attempting to find his parents was actually an employee. Someone at my table suggested I ask him for a refill of the water as he slowly walked by in a half stupor but I said "If he worked here he'd at least remove the completed soup bowls from our table (They remained until the entire meal was finished.)." I discovered later when he returned to clean a table top that he actually was an employee who might have been trained to notice diners in need of water or he could have actually said "Good evening, I have noticed your water glasses have nothing in them ... might I refill them for you?" But, then again perhaps its institutional policy. Having gotten that out of the way I have to say I was very impressed by the new entranceway, which replaced the old wooden railings that I remember front he splinters in my hand. It is a very attractive entrance and as always, noted in my prior review, you are greeted warmly and feel very welcome as you walk into this very attractive restaurant. The menu has changed since we were last here. We all agreed that it appears to have been reduced in offerings and in variety but that did not stop us from finding something. Clearly when you see the four stars and if you have reached this point of the review you have noted negatives but yet 4 stars. The food is delicious and well conceived! We didn't get anything extravagant but the French Onion Soup was truly special both visually and more importantly its blend of flavors along with the nice presence of perfectly cooked onions made those who ordered the soup very happy campers (Ok,, that's a phrase ... we are not camping out in the winter.). The sandwich was accompanied by some of the best "chips" we have ever had (All too often restaurants in their attempt to save money rather than offering French fries created chips that are burnt, overly salted or otherwise inedible.) and we all were reaching over to make sure not a speck was left. I ordered the Sweet Chili Signature Chicken Salad (Romanelli's has always been known for their awesome salads!), which was perfect for me but .... If you don't like Asian-style chili garlic sauce be forewarned that this salad's going to do more than tingle your tongue ... you are going to need water to cool it down and you already read about the lack of water refills. The chicken was perfectly cooked ... the croutons had me searching for more, and the blend of flavors made this a fantastic filling meal but .... As we left and I talked about the "heat" of my salad someone asked "Where was the bread or the rolls with dinner?" Where indeed was the bread basket that one used to receive as a guest at Romanelli's? Yes, COVID and increased costs have forced restaurants to save dollars wherever they could but we had folks with soup and me with a salad so a small dinner roll or a nice piece of bread would have been perfect but alas no bread. The menu features all those fabulous omelettes that make Romanelli's a great stop for breakfast (I wonder if you get toast or coffee refills.)! And, I am sure we will be back but next time I might ask that the water pitcher be left on the table when ordering so that the server will realize that many people need more than one glass of water with their meal especially if the water is their choice of beverage for the evening, afternoon, or morning.
