Just had Ricardo from Atlantic Heating & Air Conditioning out to repair our hot water boiler. My experience with Atlantic has been terrific. We have a not-so-common high efficiency boiler from Crown (Bimini BWC120) that we were convinced to install by our builder 10 years ago because he thought a domestic brand would be easier to get serviced and find parts than a foreign brand. Turns out it's a lot easier to service and repair foreign brands with bigger market shares than a domestic brand that gets bought out and discontinues its products. (To be fair, the unit has lasted 10 years without a problem). Our unit started generating an E28 error code (not receiving signal from the blower) periodically so we would have to reset it. I called the Crown service rep for the area and he gave me only one name of a certified service/repair guy--Paul at PNG Energy, supposedly a "reputable and dependable contractor". I would NOT recommend Paul at PNG Energy. He is flaky, and gets in by quoting a low price but then hooks you for unnecessary services and overcharges. More on that in another review. Back to Atlantic. When Paul couldn't/wouldn't fix our unit, I called around nearly in vain to find an HVAC company that would deal with Crown boilers. Most told me they don't know it/don't deal with it. Some told me they could do it but just didn't want to because they're too busy with brands they like/deal with more. Eventually I came across Atlantic. They were honest and responsive from the start. Alex Iorio was very up front with me about cost of parts (inducer and pressure switch), likely success of repairs, cost/benefit of repair vs. replace, etc. No hard sell, just info and facts. He offered me the choice of sending a guy out to check the situation before ordering parts, or ordering parts first if we felt we knew what the problem was. I chose the latter. Ricardo from Atlantic then showed up on time with the parts, did the repair in 2 hours and charged very fair parts plus labor. He was courteous, easy to deal with, knowledgeable about the system, and kept everything clean. Also, pricing was completely reasonable relative to other quotes I got for labor. A family member referred me to Atlantic after knowing I had been dealing with a 28+ year old heating system that had a lot of issues plus a need for a hot water tank replacement. I was already overwhelmed with sorting through information from heating contractors that I had already talked with. Reviewing all the available options was made more difficult by obvious biases by some of these contractors due to their aversion to newer technologies. So it was very refreshing to talk to the GM of Atlantic Heating and Air Conditioning Darren Chapman. Mr. Chapman had a thorough understanding of heating system technologies and took the time to explain their intricacies. I came away with information that was more pertinent to my needs such as features, reliability, and future expandability. With Mr. Chapman's recommendations, I was able to make an informed decision. Scheduling the installation of the heating system was very straightforward. Time frame was exactly as promised. A 2-man team performed the whole removal of old system, installation of new system, and cleanup in about 2 1/2 days. I was quite impressed at the meticulous nature in which Sean and Carl worked and their overall attention to detail. They didn't hesitate to answer any questions or concerns I had. The finished product looks great. I am very pleased by the level of professionalism shown from beginning to end. Seeing how things were done really says Atlantic Heating & Air Conditioning understands and believes in their products and more importantly how their customers should be taken care of. Seven years ago, Atlantic Heating and Air Conditioning installed my original Sanyo wall unit. After numerous repair visits from Kenny and Ricky this past summer -- the repairs temporarily fixed my cooling issue. They tried EVERYTHING to troubleshoot the problem. Even with all those service calls, I was charged minimal for their time. I've probably met every one of the Atlantic Heating and Air Conditioning guys (bunch of good guys) and I betcha they never wanted to see my name come in the call list again. I finally spoke with Alex, the service manager, to discuss my options of keeping the existing unit or replacing it with a new one. In the end the best option was to go with a brand new unit. It was time to say 'sayonora' to my Sanyo! With the new unit, I got a 12 year warranty for parts and 3 year warranty for labor. On the day of the installation, I had moved my car out and saw their van outside my place at 6:50am, but originally told them to ring the bell at 7:30. My place is like a 2 x 4 and I wanted my husband out, and I needed "me" time before these guys came in. They promptly buzzed the bell at 7:30am! Adam and George, the installers, assessed the job and told me what needed to be done. At first, they asked if I had an electrician --which took me by surprise. But in the end, Adam and George were able to work their magic and get my new unit in without another set of hands. I left them knowing that I was in good hands! They called me when the job was completed around 12:30pm. The place was cool as a cucumber for my husband. Just the way he likes it. Meanwhile, I know now I don't have to chill my Grey Goose in the freezer. read more

I put a split-mini HVAC system in my condo in Charlestown two years ago and like most consumers, started by finding the lowest priced vendors. I hired a cheap contractor that got 70% of the way through and then simply fell off the face of the earth. The guy left his ladder at my house and never came back . . . I called Atlantic Heating and Cooling. They came over, cleaned up the shotty work, and completed the job. This year, they came over and completed another job. They are now my go to vendor for AC service. To me, this has been a microcosm of my experience with builders and contractors in general. When I shop for price, I almost always get the cheapest, crappiest work. Unreliable people, cutting corners, low quality in general. I hire contractors to do work that I don't want to do, if the work isn't done right what's the point? Atlantic is not the cheapest, but they are the best value and will save you money in the long term. Pay a little more and get it done right once. Their workers are solid, experienced, good communicators, respectful,and in my experience, punctual. I have no qualms whatsover having one of them over and having my wife deal with them directly. Alex and Jon (the owners) are great guys, always call you back within 24 hours, and treat you fairly. Five stars. read more

It's really hard to find much to complain about a company that had it's owner out to my house within 24 hours of my first contact with the company. The weather was beginning to change and my wife and I were still getting settled into our new home. We first spoke to Jon and he was quick to help and lead us to the best route to getting central air installed in our home. Once Joe (the owner) was at the house he was laying out the entire process and explaining ways that we could also see some tax relief. He was very savvy in what needed to be done in our home since it is over 90 years old and what were the limitations set by the city. Once the crew got in, it just got better. Everyday like clock work they would be ready to go right at 8am. Once 3pm hit they had cleaned up so well, it actually looked better than when they showed up. Al was the crew chief and he was so easy to get in touch with for little questions and even came out to finish the job himself after work on a Friday. We came to learn that they are a family owned and operated company since their beginning. This is a rare commodity today and it's truly hard to find quality and service like this in the giant companies of today. read more

The last week of record temperatures put too much strain on an old furnace which decided to quit New Years' weekend. When the company that had been serving it told me to go buy space heaters because they couldn't help me for three days, I decided to look for other providers for estimates to replace the unit. Several people I trust recommended Atlantic so I called for an appointment. Jamie came out the next day, spent considerable time evaluating the system and I had an estimate the next morning. We accepted the offer and at 8:30 the next morning the installation team arrived. Their stated goal was to leave us with heat, so after many challenges, including digging out the condenser we had buried under 2 feet of snow, they left at 7:15 and our new heat is humming, quietly, and we are warm for the first time in a week. The staff was professional, determined, and left our home clean. We never expected this kind of service under such difficult circumstances, so can't say enough about their sales and installation services under very difficult circumstances. Would recommend them to anyone needing a new heat and air conditioning system. read more

We have just completed a whole house renovation in the Fresh Pond area of Cambridge. The house was gutted so the entire heating/cooling/duct system is new. David Boyles and his crew from Atlantic were the best sub-contractor we had on the job. They gave us a competitive price, a reasonable schedule (which they kept) and a couple of small "extra's" at no charge. All the technicians were polite and amenable and competent. They worked around the other subs without incident.... which isn't always easy. They were there when they said and even came for an hour on a Saturday to finish up for the inspector due on Monday. I commented that, for an hour, they could have come on Monday since the inspector wouldn't be there before 11 but the tech said that if there was a problem, he wanted to know about it and be sure to have the part first thing Monday. Now that's thinking ! (There was no problem so, in fact, he could have come Monday am.) The system worked just as expected this past winter. We have been using Atlantic Heating & Air for 30 years, from when it was a father and son business to today where it is now managed by the third generation. During these years we've had 3 service calls on our central air system and 2 for the heating. Like many people we don't think about the heating or air system until it's not working so we were frantic when the heating system went on the blink in December. We were heading into that really cold New Year's weekend.Their technician, Eddie K arrived to repair the first floor unit and as a precaution, checked out the system for our second floor unit. For the second unit, he found a worn out part that was in need of replacement and which would have failed soon. Because my father fixed oil burners, I know a little more than most people about heating systems and I can tell you that the Eddie K was above par. Honest, polite, and knowledgeable. We have now signed up for a service agreement so that we can have our systems checked on a regular basis -- something we should have done years ago. read more

Three years ago I moved into a great new home that was only five years old. The heating and cooling was not even in areas of my home and sometimes it would get as hot as 80 degrees in my master bedroom. I had problems with steam heat in my previous home that Atlantic had overcome difficult space problems in resolving for me. I invited them in to look at the 3 zone heating, air conditioning and humidification system. They investigated the type of equipment, which was oversized, and designed a replacement system that is smaller & better balanced, has better working dampers, and produces pure dry steam for humidity. It has better capacity control to dehumidify the air better in the summer and the air is not uncomfortably cold any more when it is not extremely hot outside. For air filtration they installed the best filters to get rid of dust and bacteria. This is a good case where I really got what I paid for. They are an efficient, service oriented company with very knowledgeable technicians. read more

For as long as I've been in the area, the folks at Atlantic have been my go-to guys for my heating and air conditioning systems. I don't usually write these things but I have had such a great relationship over the years with Atlantic that I wanted to give something back. The old system that came with our fixer-upper house was a disaster, but the Atlantic service guys always managed to figure out a miraculous solution to keep it going for one more season. When it finally came time to replace the old dinosaur of a system, there was a whole team of engineers, sales people, and installation guys that came to the rescue! I never knew that these new systems could do so much, and so efficiently, but the new system they put in is like night and day compared to the old one. The crew at Atlantic is the absolute best!. After 25 years of living in a 100 YO brick center entrance colonial, we decided we needed central air. Atlantic did a beautiful job, with great painstaking concern to maintaining the architectural integrity of the house and minimizing any obvious modern AC details. Serious thought was given to placement of all grills and returns and large equipment was carefully positioned to conserve available attic space. More importantly, neatness of the job site each night was carefully addressed as the crew vacuumed its way out the front door! I was totally amazed at the courtesy, professionalism of the staff (from tech to office) and the overall quality of the job. Atlantic replaced our 27-year-old gas burner for our forced hot water heating system with a new high-efficiency Lochinvar burner system, along with an integrated indirect 40 gal. hot water tank. We were thoroughly impressed with the prompt, helpful, enthusiastic and friendly professionalism that Atlantic exhibited in all phases of the interaction, planning and installation. The new system has performed flawlessly since its installation on May 1. Atlantic surely went the extra mile when our old hot water heater sprung a leak just a week before the installation of the new system; they helped clean up the flooded basement and rapidly provided a temporary hot water heater while the new system was being ordered and installed. Atlantic put a new boiler in my 100+ year old house about 8 years ago, then did additional work during a kitchen/bath renovation which was followed by finishing the basement. Been happy ever since but never bothered to write a review. In catching up on opening some mail today, I received my end of year gas bill and National Grid's Home Energy Report. We use gas for heat, hot water and cooking in a 2,600 sq ft house with two teenagers so thoughtful design and equipment selection for our renovation was important to me. So pleased to have the full years gas bill come in at less than $1,100 and to get 2 smiley faces from NationalGrid noting the system used 18% less than efficient neighbors. Talk about patience and professionalism. They were great! My furnace is on the older side but now it's running like new. I can't thank them enough!! Another company was called to do the initial diagnosis (I won't name them here) but they were awful, condescending, didn't wear their mask properly and COMPLETELY misdiagnosed the issue. I called Atlantic and it was as if they felt my frustration and helplessness and responded immediately. I just used Atlantic for the first time to fix my boiler and to replace my water heater. They were responsive, easy to deal with, and all the guys that were in my home were excellent. The pricing was reasonable and I will continue to use them. They actually suggested we replace the boiler with a smaller one once they asked out our daily needs.
