This is the most unassuming fancy restaurant you'll ever go to. Tucked away in a random strip mall, you'll question if you're in the right place...you are. Great food and great service on a changing pre-fixe menu! Make sure to give yourself some time to explore the wine shop before or after!

We enjoyed a very tasty dinner last Saturday night. The ambiance is decent - nothing special in a medium sized rectangular room with some oil paintings on the wall and the tables following the lines of the walls so it felt somewhat "linear", if the tables were turned at 45 degrees it would feel a lot softer. We brought our own bottle of Turley Zinfandel and it is no longer available however we asked just in case and they said no, however they did not suggest any other offering as a substitute. We also requested salt and pepper at the start so that we would not need to ask for it later and they never brought it, luckily we never needed it. Those few items along with no bread service and a lackluster dessert brought it down to four and a quarter stars from a solid four and a half which would have been rounded up to five. On to the meal! The amuse bouche was a fried triangular wonton crisp with steak tartare with a hint too much mustard and an almost cooked color - not a nice red as one would expect. It was fine however the lack of acidity and freshness brought it down. The first real course was the best of the night. Three decent thickness slices of yellowtail tuna on a delicious and light ginger wasabi vinaigrette with freeze dried corn, red onion bits, salsa verde dollops and drops of lime oil. The flavors were incredibly fresh and perfectly balanced. We could have had two more plates of this and called it a night! The next course was a salad with frisée, roasted red and yellow beets, blue cheese and a very tasty toasted hazelnut dressing. The pasta course was hand cut spaghetti a la chitarra with smoked pork belly and a few drops of salted egg yolk. It was rich and had great flavor, just a tad too small at four forkfuls. The main was filet mignon with a pink peppercorn poivre sauce, a few roasted Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, some parsnip purée and an onion jus. The meat was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked. Dessert was a strawberry shortcake basically in a small glass jar. It was quite sweet and good but not elevated enough for a tasting menu. Service was professional and efficient. We will most likely return for another special evening.

Eating at Atlas Bistro is an exceptionally wonderful experience. Well, you may not believe you are in a five star restaurant when you pull up to the storefront, when you step inside, it is the definition of diamond in the rough. The food at Atlas Bistro is exceptionally good making it, one of the best restaurants in Arizona. It is an excellent place to meet with friends for a high-end evening. Pay the money; it's worth it!

Great food and service. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend! Mason was our server and did a great job.

My husband and I dined here on a date night. This place is small AND IN THE BEST WAY! It is the most quaint, cozy restaurant! Ambiance was absolutely AMMMMAAZZZINGGG. Service was AMAZZZZINGGGG! The only people working were the cook, one server and the owner (who also was serving, being the sommelier all while running the whole place and he did a phenomenal job!!!) Our food was spectacular and this was the first time I tried oysters and LOVED THEM. I now love them and want them everywhere we go haha. They have a wine shop connected to the shop so you can walk around and pick the bottle you want and the server will bring it to your table. LOVE THIS CONCEPT. It was so fun! YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE. I'M SERIOUS!!!

I wanted to find a special place for dinner and their $65 3-course prix fixe menu called out to me. I called ahead and was able to personalize the menu, which I thought was a nice touch. We got there 30 min early, and browsed the wine store. The gentleman who assisted us was very helpful and friendly - we ended up choosing a bottle and started to sip on it prior our meal in the tasting room area. We were seated, given waters, and pours of our previously chosen bottle, which our wine connoisseur had brought over a little earlier. It took a little while for our orders to be taken (30 min!!!!). There was one waiter and one waitress taking care of the 7-8ish tables, and they hustled and bustled around to make sure everyone was taken care of. I'm not sure if adding one more person would have sped things up, or slowed thing down, due to the limited space they are working with. When our orders came out, they took the utmost care to describe every item in detail, which I greatly appreciated because who can remember what we ordered. Everything was truly delicious, and there was a little snack of a fried eggroll they had included as a pre-appetizer. It's too long to list what each dish had (and let's be honest I probably couldn't), but each piece of duck/fish/lobster/pork was cooked perfectly. Portions weren't the biggest, but with a bottle of wine between two people, it was enough. We opted for two desserts - the beignets and a pear tart. The beignets were rather disappointing, as chewy as disappointing really; the pear tart was very light, but nothing really special. I'd say pass on the desserts unless you were absolutely dying for something sweet. Two prix fixe + 2 desserts + $25 bottle + tip = $225. Be sure to check in on Yelp to get the corkage fee waived if you end up bringing a bottle of wine!! All in all, fancy and yummy meal, great BYOB option, all taking place in a simple, no-frills setting.

It had been years since we visited A.B. and a recent review in the news prompted a return. The service is top-notch, food beautifully plated, and most of it very tasty. Servings are quite small, so not a place I'd recommend if you have a big appetite. Three courses with a few options in each section. There was at least one veg option in each. Course 1: Roasted beet "pastrami" was a pretty arrangement of beets sliced into sticks. It was good, but the smoked salmon was better served with two small dollops of creamy potatoes. Course 2: A roasted squash was perfect for fall and the lobster in green curry sauce also delish (+$15 up-charge). Course 3: I enjoyed the butternut tortellini, but wasn't a big fan of the fish which was a bit overcooked for my liking. $65pp for the three courses, not including upcharges for special items like the lobster. It was all pretty good, but we left hungry. Our servers was helpful recommending a wine from the bottle shop next door and didn't judge us by our price range. Good option if you want a place that serves fancy-feeling food in a not-stuffy atmosphere, but not a place I'd go back to given the cost.

    Always a welcome sight!

Hot damn! You can work for Yelp and still realize that you know very little about the F&B scene! For some odd reason, I THOUGHT Atlas Bistro was a relative newcomer to the scene, opening a couple of years earlier. Reality? 20 years in business! I can assume that I must have heard some buzz about Atlas a while ago and attributed it to them being new in town. The more important point is that when a place is still generating buzz (and revenue!) after two decades in the game, this is a restaurant well worth checking out. I LOVED my dinner here. Everything about it was flawless. From the service to the wines to the courses, this was such a great experience. It's been some time since I've had a meal I'm genuinely enthusiastic about. That says something when I visit so many restaurants. To be clear, I came here as part of a dinner group and I'm not sure how much our meal deviated from the norm, but I don't think by much. Everything is a prix fixe menu. I was told that Atlas Bistro is one of the few restaurants in town with a BYOB policy (corkage: $25). As a bonus? They have an incredible selection of wines available for purchase at decent prices. I enjoy wines but am by no means a connoisseur. However, one person in my group is a wine expert and was simply raving about the wine selection. The only thing that I found a little odd is that even if you buy the wine from them, the corkage fee still applies. But whatever. Since the menu rotates, I'm not going to address many of the dishes that we had other than to say they were excellent. Everything was prepared with heart, portions were good, and flavor was front-and-center. I can't imagine coming here and having a bad meal. Our dessert course was a cheese plate which I found odd but it was delicious! Due to the set menu nature of Atlas, I would recommend checking what is being served in advance if you have dietary restrictions or preferences. Someone in our group requested that the steak be swapped out for fish which they were able to accommodate, but I personally found inappropriate given the style of the operation. Another thing that I loved was the intimate environment. Reservations are key for a few reasons. One is that they're only open a few nights a week and they take off most of July and August (book those reservations now!). Additionally, there aren't a whole lot of tables which I found to be a plus. Atlas Bistro works for everything from an intimate date to an intense business discussion. It's rare to find that. As if you couldn't already tell, I am a convert to the cult of Atlas Bistro! Don't tell anyone I didn't know about this local gem before. Haven't been? Book now!

Hidden gem! Great for special occasions. 3 course tasting menus with local rotating items. As a pescetarian, I found plenty to chose from. All preparations are unique and fresh. Staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant is BYOB and attached to a local wine store. Makes for an affordable night out of delicious cuisine. Small dining room and not open daily so be sure to make a reservation!

"Chopped" winner Cory Oppold has put together a fantastic dining experience for the Valley. Don't be deceived by the unassuming exterior -- the food shines bright! The menu is prix fixe with three courses. We went as a group of 4 so we were able to try the whole menu. Everything was exceptional! A lot of care is taken to craft interesting ingredients and beautifully plate them. The restaurant also includes a staff sommelier, who can help you pick out a bottle of wine from the wine store next door. Tips: - Make a reservation to ensure you get a table -- the dining room is very small and intimate (maybe 10 tables) - Check in on yelp to get a free bottle corkage fee

This place has been on my list for a while, particularly because of the BYO, and we finally tried it out. It's attached to a little wine store, so before sitting for dinner you can mosey around and buy some wine, OR you can bring in your own from home if you forgot. So it's a coursed out meal, 3 courses total and it's the small fancy size portions. I started with the fried burrata - good texture but sadly a little cold, still good though. My second course was the chorizo stuffed sweet potato which I though was very good. It looks funny when they serve it because it literally looked like a mini sweet potato cut in half and plopped on the plate. Once you cut into it, the chorizo and queso fall out so nicely and then just gobble it up. YEP! Main course were scallops and they were perfectly cooked with a great sear and crisp on the outside. I wish I could give this 4 stars, but I don't think it's quite there. And what add to this is when we first checked in, the host walked away and didn't mention anything about our table being ready or needing to wait. Okay, whatever, but we stood there awkwardly for 5 minutes still unsure of what was going on. Finally 10 minutes later we got sat at a table that had been open the whole time. Not a big deal and this wasn't a terrible experience but I think if the customer service and food were just the tiniest bit better, we'd be at 4 stars.

My only negative, and I don't want to necessarily blame the staff as it is the owner's duty to hire enough staff to care for the place. But the floors had little pieces of food spilled everywhere and the tables were sticky. Same with the soda and condiments area. It needs a good cleaning through day. The staff were super busy making food and serving guests. They need to add an additional employee to assist these guys. I'm sure we will be back at some point.

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine.
