My boyfriend and I have been avid fans of the show Next Level Chef, and we have had our eye on stay at the Grand Hyatt for almost the entire year we've been officially dating. For our one year anniversary, we decided this was a must for a romantic weekend at the Grand Hyatt as a staycation to try both Celebrity Chef Richard Blais' restaurants with Tiki Taka being the first one. Reservations are very easy via Open Table, and located on the first floor of the Grand Hyatt near the pools. Lots of seating outside and some seating in the inside which we chose as July can be very hot in Arizona. Our server Kyle was very friendly, knowledgeable, and even acknowledged our anniversary with complimentary sake - thank you! What We Ordered: - White Orchid: very refreshing and one of my favorite lychee martinis as I've tried a few recently! - Belvedere Vodka Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives: now this is more my style. Very delicious, and great blue cheese stuffed olives. If I returned, I'd likely stick to my usual and only do a lychee martini if I want something sweet. - No Mori: a little sweet for a Negroni, but noticed it used two sweet vermouths, so it was to be expected. My boyfriend said he would order again, but request only one vermouth. - Somakase ($75/person to order an item for each session, which was a great deal): + Spanish Octopus: A pass for me as I hate octopus, but my boyfriend really enjoyed it. Loved the spiciness of the dish, and the grill on the octopus. The mandarins added a nice sweetness, and he would definitely order again! + Tempura Vegetables: a personal pass for both of us as we didn't think they had much flavor. Love to see a shrimp tempura on the menu outside of a roll. + Hokkaido Scallop: perfectly seared and enjoyed the yuzu kosho as a great citrus to balance the flavor of the scallops. + La Gamba: a delicious roll that we both enjoyed and remarked we would order again as the shrimp tempura was delicious. We still craved a little more and ordered: - Ny Strip Skewer: a steak skewer to order with mushrooms? You can bet that I enjoyed it! Loved the pickled mushrooms to complement the flavor, though we both did not like the sauce it was paired with. I'm a firm believer if a steak is cooked well, it does not need a sauce. Even if it's a skewer. - Takoyaki: This dish was presented well, but my boyfriend wishes it had more octopus flavor. I tried a bite, which was pretty good though I'm not a fan of octopus. The batter was delicious, and I think a great dish for someone who doesn't want a fully octopus forward dish. Their food tastes weird. The white rice doesn't taste normal. I would go to panda express or other Chinese or Japanese food places. I would not recommend this place. There are misters and it makes us wet. The adult food comes before the kids food and the kids would be starving so they should bring the kids food out first. and they ran out of steak and it's my kids favorite. read more

Well, I am a little confused. We were so looking forward to this place but it just fell short. The cutest part was this picture. The room is like an after thought. The food was mediocre at best. Expensive for what it is. I won't be back. The meats were fatty and the crispy rice was all rice. No real side dishes to choose from. The sangria was good but barely any ice or fruit. I am not sure if Chef Richard Blais was here when we visited. My ten family and friends had a 6:15 PM dinner reservation. We arrived here at 6:15 PM. We waited several minutes for the staff to rearrange the tables for our large party of ten. The restaurant inside is very small. I enjoyed my three draft Asahi Super Dry to start. I used to enjoy my draft Asahi Super Dry when I used to visit Japan on business. We shared and enjoyed the grilled Octopus with parsley aioli and paprika oil for $23. The octopus turned out to be the best part of our dinner. Ramen was a daily special (not on the regular menu). I love ramen, but this ramen was very bland even after I added all of my extra spice. Two of my guests also ordered the ramen special and said the same thing. One commented that the ramen tasted like brown water. Also very few noodles were in the ramen. Some of my guests ordered and shared another daily special seafood paella, which they did not mention that it takes a long time to prepare the daily special seafood paella. Needless to say the seafood paella was served after everyone was done with their appetizers and dinners. Five of my family members left the table in disgust. Five of us remained at the table sharing the seafood paella. We complained to our server Logan M. and the manager about the several problems we experienced here. As a result they finally agreed to apply my friend's 20% Hyatt food discount to our bill. My total bill was $551 after the 20% discount, including the automatic 20% added gratuity. My family and friends were all disappointed with our dining experience here. They all said it was not worth $551. I can not recommend this place for all of the above reasons. I expect that they will not survive here very long. I will see if they are still here next year. Also as you can see from my other many reviews I rarely rate a restaurant with only 2 stars, however this place earned my 2 stars. They were lucky not to receive only 1 star. 18 of my reviews are rated with only 2 stars. We visited on a jam-packed Fourth of July evening, when both the resort and the restaurant were buzzing with holiday energy. Despite the crowds, the team at Tiki Taka handled everything with grace. Our server, Madison, was a standout, genuinely warm, highly attentive, and wonderfully proactive about the two dairy allergies at our table. She double-checked every dish without slowing down the flow of service. Jose, the food runner, was equally impressive: knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to answer questions about ingredients and flavors. Because of the festivities, service was inevitably longer, yet the staff never lost their composure. Their positive attitudes and calm professionalism under pressure actually made the wait feel more relaxed and reminded us how much genuine hospitality matters when things get hectic. Add in Tiki Taka's creative, globally inspired small-plate menu, full of fresh, unexpected flavor combinations and you've got a memorable dining experience that's worth seeking out, busy holiday or not. One of the best dining experiences in years. The place has such a welcoming atmosphere and the staff is absolutely top notch from providing recommendations to being on top of the pacing of the meal. Highlights for me would have to be the pork belly and octopus yakitori, the papas bravas, and the wild mushrooms. The exec chef Scarlett Brida knows her craft and executes it to perfection. Absolutely amazing service and staff!! everyone was so attentive and friendly, we ordered the paella which was absolutely delicious and fully worth the pricing!! We almost even ordered two!! Our server Marcella was so attentive and helpful finding us the perfect meal to enjoy (They had many options for picky eaters like my two kids and hubby as well!) And our food running girl (Stephanie) was so nice and helpful bringing our food plates at a time so we're were able to savor and enjoy every bite!! I would totally recommend this restaurant to anybody who either want a quick snack to a full blown meal any day! Went to Tiki Taka tonight for dinner and I feel absolutely bamboozled. I understand it is a tapas place, but the portions are incredibly small for the price. The crispy rice is $22 and it came out with one piece that was barely enough for ONE person. The taste of the dishes were subpar, but the price for what is served is a complete ripoff. We had reasonably high expectations - Top Chef and all. I think Richard Blais is just selling his name at this point. The Gainey Hyatt Hotel is great - Tiki Taka (Ticky/Tacky) on the other hand is a bad afterthought. The place was not even close to full on a Friday night, but the service was slow and in the weeds, without a good grasp on what they were actually serving. Menu questions were answered at a fast-food level. The food was bland / not exciting. As for specifics, here are three easy examples: (1) The fish in the sushi was noticeably warm (like room temp +). At least 10-15 degrees above the temp a topflight sushi joint would sling. It was kinda gross. (2) The empanada was either cooked the day before - or left under a heat lamp/salamander for way too long (or both). The filling was close to that of a Jack-in-the-Box taco. Not that Jack-in-the-Box tacos don't have a certain late-night charm - just not what you expect at $20 (for a single taco-sized empanda). (3) We had two orders of pork belly. They were visibly different sizes. Either someone got a bonus or someone got shorted. In either case, the Expediter should never have let the plates go with such an obvious difference. We chuckled, but it's reflective of the overall quality and attention to detail we observed. I guess what I'm saying is save yourself from profound disappointment. There are actually at least three decent sushi establishments within a short Uber from the hotel . . . and Richard, you really should keep closer tabs on who uses your name.
